This is like the 5th one of these I've seen in the whole game. I knew exactly where this was at, but it still took me 10min to find just to take this stupid screenshot.
Wading through the bad grammar and spelling to respond to this. First off, I'm gonna start off by saying you need to complete high school. It's quite apparent you haven't yet. Right. I'm the troll! LOL Its pretty evident which category you fall into. Yes, you cannot interact with the water. Think about the setting. Nukes, virus....why the hell would you want to enter the water? That's the 'IC' reason, but in reality, perhaps they didn't want to mess with the coding of adding the ability to enter water into the game. I really don't know, but it doesn't detract from the game that I've seen, as it is a desert environment, it's not like lakes are a common thing. Stated plainly: this is just a weak excuse. By your own argument, I would rather the game allow me to enter the water, and then kill me slowly with a viral infection. I hate invisible walls in video games, and when the the invisible wall is a pool of water, I can't help but think 1990's video game. Finally, I can't help but point out the irony. While you're "wading through the bad grammar" the OP is upset that he can't wade through your vigorously defended fetid pool.
Yeah, cherry pick quotes to take them out of context so you can make the point you want to make. Yeah....that's not being a troll.
Honestly, it doesn't matter if you think I'm a troll, just as it doesn't matter if people agree or disagree about my defense of the English language. This is about the game and I've made my points. People can read them and agree or disagree. You hate invisible walls in video games, hm? Name me one game that doesn't have them. Out of all the MMORPG's, this one feels the most open. Loading screens are a very rare occurance and happen when you die or if you reset an instance while you're inside of it. The landscape gradually changes, reflecting how you're moving from one sector to another, also without a loading screen. Yet your complaint is that you can't enter a couple of ponds scattered about the landscape. Well, I'm sorry you feel that way and I hope you do find your game that lacks the invisible walls that limit where you can go.
Yes, some of the animations are poor. Yes, there are bugs. But each person is going to feel different. Best thing they can do is ask questions about whatever matters to them the most and get an answer to it.
Yeah, cherry pick quotes to take them out of context so you can make the point you want to make. Yeah....that's not being a troll. Firstly, it was not my intention to deny being a troll. I take great pride in the fact that I am the most refined troll in the swamp. I'm sorry you missed that. Maybe it was my grammar. More likely, it was my punctuation. I should have put a few more exclamation points behind the sentence, "Right. I'm the troll!!!!!!!!1!!one!!" This thread is filled with you making judgmental assumptions about people, so why should I treat you any differently? Yes, some of the animations are poor. Yes, there are bugs. You know that spell checker you were railing on about earlier? It's telling me you spelled occurrence incorrectly. Personally, I feel that really detracts from your post. Thanks for the fun twhint. You can't play cowboys and indians if no one's willing to be an inidian. I'll be the indian, and you all can be the cowbois.

Yes, you can ride your dead horse all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that you're doing the same thing the OP was doing. Contradicting yourself.
You claim you don't like invisible walls, and yet every game you play pigeonholes you to go the way /they/ want you to go. The world is open to you and yet you focus on the one part that has no meaning in the grand scheme of things, water in a desert environment.
Yes, I do judge people, just as you are yourself judging. I'm not living in a glass house, so it doesn't really bother me. We can trade insults all day long, but the fact of the matter is, it has no meaning and it just shows immaturity, on both our parts. I have presented my views and refuted yours. All you've done is try to be cool.
Invisible walls in video games suck. Can you refute that? I don't deny that they're universal, but that doesn't change the fact that they suck. So I say again, can you refute that?
Read the entirety of my posts in this thread, and you'll see that I am rather enthused about this game myself. The fact that there is an invisible wall surrounding every body of water won't stop me from playing and enjoying this game. Nor will the clunky looking interface and the dated graphics I see on youtube and the screenshots posted here. Frankly, it doesn't really matter. Its all about the gameplay, and from what I hear about the gameplay, it sounds pretty damned good.
Anticipating that you will once again accuse me of contradicting myself, I will try one last time to clarify. I don't care if I can walk in bodies of water, but I think that the excuses / explanations about viral water are weak. I don't know how to state it any more plainly than that.
Hah, that's comedic. It has virtually no genre competition and a potential userbase that's been yelling for YEARS that some sort of game like this is needed.
It will make millions.

I can refute it because you seem to be stuck on something that is universal. You're claiming that defending poor water physics is weak when it's a small problem compared to the relative freedom you enjoy in the rest of the game, especially when you compare it to every other game out there which seperate everything into zones that are hemmed in by walls, invisible or otherwise. I would argue that it's not really a problem if you don't notice it's there. You want everything but get pissy when you can't have it.
The gameplay is pretty much like any other MMO out there. You use wasd to move, you hit tab to enter combat mode (which is basically mouselook), then you click the mouse buttons to attack (or more commonly, hold them down). You click on objects to interact with them. The minor difference is that you have to actually actively move your mouse around to keep the object in your reticle. You have quest grinding vs. mob grinding. You have scavenge grinding just like any other game. Crafting allows you to do other things while you are making items, which is somewhat unique.
Problems include that people can attack with ranged weapons on top of a horse, but not with melee weapons. Bugs are prevalent, such as some missions not being completable because a mob won't spawn or a mission object not spawning.
The community is good for the most part. You have the helpful ones and the ones that are arrogant and think they're badass, but I would say the good outweighs the bad so far. We'll see how it holds up after the game is released. Current arguments are for fast travel and respecs, both of which the devs have said they won't implement, but people are still making threads about it over and over.

I think in the end you have a right to your opinion but I don't think you are really in a position to speak for any "veteran" players, most of the features you criticize this game for not having are as new school as they get things like toggles for armor and clothing so that you can wear it but not show it,customization options on your mount and quite a few other features. I don't disagree with you because I personally enjoy the overall design of games now and am not one of the people often complaining of "companies copying wow" or whatever but I think I know enough to say that most people (that I would consider to be mmo vets) do not agree with me at all and may not agree with you either.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Really do like this game so far, it has great potential. I will be a supporter and hoping that it doesn't get dumbed down or ruined by whining. It is tough and I hope they only make it tougher.
This simple question just negates everything you've written in this thread, you've obviously done zero research about the game. go here and read.
Actually I was making a point.
BTW, you could have answered with a single word, so you're not really in a good position to criticize my posts.
Here's the progression:
If you can make clothing, can you make boots?
If boots are in the game, why can't you wade through water, regardless of how contaminated it is?
By no means is this issue a deal-breaker for me, but it does hurt immersion. I think you will see a lot of comments on this issue after release.
As you say it is not dealbreaker, but I have to ask as you say it hurt immersion.
In games where you can swim in and jump out of the water wearing armor made of steel. Does that also hurt immersion and are prepared to go into a discussion in those games aswell? Claiming it hurts immersion.
In games where you can swim through water but not go underneath the surface. What's your view on that?
If getting into the water is such important (?) thing for immersion shouldn't those things also be important for immersion?

Yes. Those are good points. Armour should impair swimming ability. Water deep enough should allow underwater swimming. The absence of such factors does hurt immersion.
It's a matter of degree. When a game presumes to model the real world to a large degree (actual geographical locations), it is more important to 'get it right'. A fictional world in a fictional universe can tinker with physics as it pleases.
The farther the game gets from believability (I try not to use the term 'realism' WRT fantasy games), the more difficult it is to lose yourself in the world. Believability was supposed to be a strength of this game. You can see it in other areas (long times for crafting, and 'fuel' for mounts, for example), but this aspect hurts the immersion.
Why can't I run through shallow water? No one has boots?
Is there deep water? If so, are there no boats? Did we all forget how to make them?
The setting and plot of a game should match the capabilities of the software and hardware they will be using. If the engine can't portray water believably, then there should not be any bodies of water. Seriously, though, this IS 2009 - your engine can't treat water as anything but impassible terrain? Why would anyone think that engine was suitable for a modern MMO?
Aion has water, but no swimming (you walk through it, even underwater), and Warhammer has swimming, but no diving. FE is even worse than those. Are games actually getting worse?

I actually don't think the way water is done atm in Fallen Earth is due to shortage of the enginge. (Just as usage of lowres textures in some places is not really a shortage of the enginge.)
It's great that you took time and answered those questions. It's a said state when one have to, really, one should not see any reason to doubt that.
There's no (usable, as far as I know) boats, but that shouldn't mean that the knowledge is forgotten how to make them. And even if one can't enter water I don't see a reason to as why it wouldn't be supported by the engine. I would guess that there is alot of features in the engine that they don't currently use. (For reason of their own I guess.) But those things is just as much speculation regardless if one says yay or nay.
Maybe the water in games are getting more neglected overall.
This game has many problems but it has potential. What bothers me the most is that new games like CO and FE come out all the time lately and they seem and are unfinished. So i would advise against using the "the game is new give it time" quote all over the place since it only harms the community. I hope the game burns and dies along with every other game that comes out looking like the child nobody wanted. If that happens then maybe we can get a good game. As it is now FE at least for me is unplayable OP said most but in any case you get my point. i hope:D

I don't know that boats are allowed on the waters below Hoover Dam at current and as the game seems to be set in the areas below the dam...I'm also not sure that Lake Meade (above the dam) is in. So, there really wouldn't be cause for boats to even be in this area if the above is true.
And anyway, it's not like player interaction with water can't be added in a later expansion and done so in a right way. It's just not that big of a deal to me. Knowing somewhat of how the devs plan to approach the growth of this game I'm sure they know about such details and see more reasons that they will address them down the road than the pessimists who are sure they won't. Given the current state of MMO developers, especially the so-called AAA ones, and the recent releases of MMOs, I can see where one might have that pessimism. But seeing the words and the interaction of Icarus' staff with this game, I've got more belief in their actions than the pundits "sky is falling" and "beware december 2012" rants. Neither is 100% guaranteed, but one certainly has more merit than the other, actions being louder than words.

It's beyond a non issue. To the point of absurd that you even tout it as a flaw of some sort.

Lovin this game! You can tell its a small company that made it but I have high hopes for them. There are LOTS of buggy things, like the weird reticule shaking in combat and such but I believe that will fix it all. Has huge potential...try it out!
FALLEN EARTH is a large dissapointment at least to veteran players
Sorry, you're wrong. And the fact that you don't have the presence of mind to know better than to make blanket, universal statements like this lets me know reading the rest of your post isn't worth the time. You'd think at 43 years of age you'd learned that concept by then. I know plenty of "veteran gamers" that have been playing since Ultima Online and Asheron's Call that enjoy FE and the direction Icarus' has outlined in how they intend to grow it.
Aion and more of the same is calling you. Have fun!
Ahhhh, Asheron's Call. It was my first MMORPG and I still have some fond memories.
As to the OP, sorry to hear that he isn't enjoying the game. Me? I'm loving it. It mixes a true skill based system with a post apocolyptic future. A future where you have to walk and supplies require real work to manufacture. The game is all about freedom and consequences.
Are the graphics perfect? Are they up to what we would expect from an EA title? Probably not, although I love the character/equipment detail.
However, Mr OP, starting any thread with the work "fail" in big bold letters doesn't help to help anyone take you very seriously. Doesn't matter how old you are, it comes off as less than mature. If you don't like the game, so be it. Not sure why you are so desperate to trash it though...

By no means is this issue a deal-breaker for me, but it does hurt immersion. I think you will see a lot of comments on this issue after release.

Actually I was making a point.
BTW, you could have answered with a single word, so you're not really in a good position to criticize my posts.
Here's the progression:

As you say it is not dealbreaker, but I have to ask as you say it hurt immersion.
In games where you can swim in and jump out of the water wearing armor made of steel. Does that also hurt immersion and are prepared to go into a discussion in those games aswell? Claiming it hurts immersion.
In games where you can swim through water but not go underneath the surface. What's your view on that?
If getting into the water is such important (?) thing for immersion shouldn't those things also be important for immersion?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"

As it is now FE at least for me is unplayable OP said most but in any case you get my point. i hope:D
I just don't like it.

Agreed. I don't miss the swimming at all. Taking a dip with my two automatic handguns isn't going to help the immersion level for me.

Hi
I'm looking for a "new" mmorpg, and maybe FE is for me.
I prefer sandbox games, open worlds, large areas, and something new, with good pve, craft and some pvp (not FFA)
Was disappointed by War and by AION . Can't play Wow
I actually play Lotro and TCOS (F2P), but i'd like to play another mmorpg.
Regards

No you wont, because there is only like, what, 4 bodies of water in 100's of square KM of play area.
