A guy who just happens to jump a bit in Beta can't speak about "insulting gameplay" and "unbearable community".
Random cheap conclusions of something he can pick up in any WOW hating forum without actually playing the operationel game in ... 2004, let alone in 2009.

Indeed, that pisses me off sometimes. This site is full of so much unaccurate stuff about WoW's gameplay, it makes me wonder why didnt they rename to WoW-hating.com.
People have to play the game and start commenting instead of spamming the same "I miss Vanilla", "Battlegrounds/resilience/My neibourgh killed world PvP" and other stuff that barely makes any sense.
The nature of its gameplay was evident in beta. Of course it wasn't nearly as beautifully streamlined as it is today, a mere skeleton of the beast it has become, but one can identify an animal by its skeleton. It was clear what they were aiming for, and I wasn't interested. I've given it chances since its release, and it's wonderful how it has developed, and Blizzard is rightfully very highly praised for the ever-so-polished experience, but it is the same game I was introduced to way-back-when.
Analogy: I don't like death metal music. It's just a style that doesn't work with me, I find it abrasive and in no way pleasantly or even interestingly stimulating. Tomorrow there could come the best death metal band to ever grace its fan's ears, the epitome of everything they love about the genre, refined to the raw essence of awesome, and I'd give it a shot, but I'm very unlikely to develop a liking for death metal. Improve, refine, perfect it all you can, it's just not a direction I'm interested in, and I needn't listen to every minute of every album to realize this. It doesn't exactly disguise itself.
Anyway, its gameplay is also made clear by the reviews, by the descriptions given by even the many people who love it, by gameplay videos—seriously, it is so outstandingly popular that it's practically impossible for a gamer on the Internet to not know what it's like. This is no obscure subject.
As for the community, are its extremely active official fora not fairly representative? Because I lurked there for much of 2007, at least, and to this day often find myself reading threads there, and it's even worse than MMORPG.com! Ahem.

Fair enough. I wouldn't really know about this site. I don't generally engage in discussions on already-released games here, but rather in more focused communities.

I don't think Zondorfs subscription numbers are right, but you have already asked for a link to prove that blizzard makes over a billion a year on wow alone and it was given to you.

I don't "hate" WoW, but I just wonder how much does Blizzard gain for the fees? Let's see: Over 11,000,000 players online (that's what they say), $14.95 per month. That's $?????????? (don't know, my calculator does not have enought digits for the result) That is PER MONTH!!!!!

You seem a bit doubtful of the sub numbers Blizz releases. You are intelligent to do so. I have never believed numbers that Blizz or any other game companies release. The difference is there are those that will defend Blizz with their last breath while other companies are condemned as liars by the WOW faithful.

Like I said they sell ONLY in the west the equivalent of 36 MILLION subscription card boxes - worth 30 dollars a piece. That's RETAIL price . So Blizzard probably has 30 % less than the retail value. So probably they even sell MORE.
That's the equivalent of sold boxes NOT one single game EVER could touch... in 30 years of video gaming.

WAR is, by definition a WoW clone. says you... first off Warhammer is based all on PVP... WOW was based on PVE.. in fact WOW didnt even have PVP when it was launched... so no it is far from a WOW clone... you obviously have not played it. There is many many differences. Their target market was WoW players and they really went after Blizzard. tell me what company that doesnt try to steal subs from WOW? its called competition. Business 101... Look, I know that you have a lot of emotion wrapped up in hating WoW and loving WAR. I played WAR from the open beta through its first two very dissapointing months. I even came back a couple months ago because I heard that the SC's were always poppin' and they were (in tier 2). I NEVER heard anybody say "There should be dancing like WoW" or "There should be duels like WoW" or anything other than "There should be more content like wow" or "this game should be polished like wow" or even "hey, maybe they should have finished this game before release" like wow.
To your second point about me not reading and whether or not the US has 6 million subs. The chart that I linked you (which you did not look at) shows games with subs over 200k over the last 10 years. At no point was there a drastic drop in subs for WoW, their numbers climbed steadily since 2005. This means, that either Chinese subs were paying while their government block wow or that they really do have a strong US and European base. Take a look at the numbers and quit flaming

Unless you want us to believe every single subscriber outside the western market lives in China then I think your own math proves your opinion impossible. You talk about simple math, but you missed this simple calculation?
Don't get me wrong, I do not think there are 6 million subscribers in North America and Europe, but at the same time I do not think the full remainder of 6 million customers live in China either.
So yes, I do get where you are going [which I do not agree with your conclusions], but you are posting numbers without any supporting links to prove that you are using correct numbers.
In response to the OP, not the left wing path the thread has taken on subscription numbers:
I don't hate WoW but don't like it. I guess for a few reasons. There isn't enough customizability in character generation for me and the other reason would be the graphics. Others have flamed me for my dislike of the graphics telling me that I had completely missed the point of the graphics being a throw back to the old Warcraft games. hey great, I still don't like them, it's just my opinion, 12 million others disagree so I could be on my own, but the game just isn't for me. I look at the realism of the graphics in a game like the revamped DDO and really enjoy the feel there, that's more my style, but even in DDO the game lascks character customization that i had in Co/ CoX.
I dont hate wow just the end game(not a raider)

I think community has a lot to do with a game, if the community is real bad, it might discourage me from playing. Not having anything to do with game mechanics, that's a given. But the question was "Why do you Hate WoW". So I'd say that reason is pretty valid.
Faulting WoW for it's community has got to be THE weakest excuse I have ever heard for this game. That's like saying Chicago or New York City suck because all the people there are crazed lunatics........oh yeah like you can vouch for the ENTIRE community....way to go.

That frontal lobe is what made me check "unsubscribe" twice:) I tried several servers and they all were pretty much the same: full of N + F words, butt sex and ghetto talk. I don't understand why you think it is lame to quit a game because the player base is so rude and low-class.
A game is not worth playing if you gotta turn off all the chats within 5 minutes of logging in. It could be the best frigging game in the world but it isn't worth squat if the Devs don't keep the riffraff out.
This is not an estimation of WoW's subscriptions but an estimation of WoW's activity. I'd like to point out that with the new asian regulations, WoW may not be able to continue exploiting the asian market. That particualar regualtion was created to protect the local gaming industry.

Same ol gear recycling..., You raid or pvp over and over again then bam every new patch you have to re do it. Kinda getting old after doing it in BC and Wotlk. Really wish they would introduce AA's like EQ. Maybe mastery will be somewhat like it.
WoW is probably the only NEW MMO I've ever played that felt outdated the day it came out. It did absolutely nothing new.

I don't hate WoW, I've actually played it quite a bit and had fun.
But there are other MMOs I like better. (DDO,EvE, etc)
A) I found your 3 links that you cried about right. You know the 3 links you said I couldn't find, because I can't read and at the same time you say they were deleted? Which is it, they are deleted, I can't find them? How many times do I have to point out your innacuracies before you give it a rest?
C) You continue to post links to blogs that are nothing but blind speculation and you think that just because it has gamasutra in the url makes it proof of something? Great, you linked to gamespy who then link to someones blog. Whoodie fucking doo. Did you even bother reading past the title of the bloggers article? Does he show any proof of his claims, no. Does he talk about guesses, having no real idea and have no hard data to support his claims. Yes.
Listen friend, just because you heard something rumored on the internet doesn't mean it is the truth and that you have some indisputable evidence that you can disprove the opinions of others with. I have already showed you how flawed the math is behind your silly claims, but you have no problem ignoring that do you?
If you want to post something in a matter of fact manner then way you have been, then be prepared to show your sources. Don't say something dumb like "blizzard already posted it", man up and link it yourself. What you have posted so far is laughable at best. What you are really doing is spreading rumor and misinformation and you are misguided enough to think you have acurate information. You seem to think it is so accruate you can disprove other peoples claims. Neither claim I agree with before you misunderstand what is clearly said and have another hissy fit.
