See this is why I always say

"never, ever play an MMO at launch give it 6 to 12 months before its worth looking at"

AION may go from "ordinary" to "extraordinary"

Sorry kiddo, you've got me confused with someone else.  I -closed- the only other account I've ever had on this site.  Besides, this is in the general discussion area, so I'm not trolling anything.  NCsoft think they can polish a turd and keep their dwindling Aion subscribers interested long enough to get GW2 out the gate, then this garbage of a game will go the way of all the other titles they've killed over the years.

Sorry that you like a dying product.  Must suck,  I guess.

Aions the best MMO out right now imo, even without all the added content in the video. Its a killer MMO man and with future expansions it will only get better. Aion has a very bright future if NCsoft keeps it up, without a doubt. I can garentee there will still be tons of hate for Aion on this site though no matter how good the game gets lol

I think it depends on where the game came from.

I grabbed WoW on launch day, never regretted it.

I grabbed Aion on launch day, regretted it.

Aion was not a bad game, I just didn't agree with a few of the limitations and a few other problems I didn't care to deal with. But I'll continue to keep my eye on it to see how it turns out.

    OK.

    Good God.

I just watched the trailer. That...look adding DX10 ALONE was something special. The changing environments (has anyone else but Ryzom done real-time weather that seriously?), the animal taming, the player hours with incredibly well-detailed interior...wow.

Almost makes me want to play.

I say almost because my two biggest concerns with Aion remain.

    1) Core gameplay is still Asian Grindtastic. Quests play a bigger part than say Lineage, but it's still basically go into area A, AOE grind mobs until you get to x level. Move to Area B, rinse and repeat. I mean, as long as there's player advancement of some sort there will ALWAYS be a grind, but I shouldn't have to think "Gee, only have to kill another 200 green goblins to move into the red goblin area, then after 500 of those I can ding finally!"

    2) Hacks, Bots, Goldsellers abound, worse than WoW or anything else commerically available in the West. Given that this is a (endgame) pvp-centric game, I don't want to deal with the face that people with credit cards to burn can wtfpwn anyone else simply because they bought themselves max level and endgame gear. And the spam and harassment is just annoying.

Still watching this one. They've taken many steps in the right direction. A few more tweaks to the things above, and I might actually buy a sub.

I have to agree, it may very well be free coming from NCSoft. Between L2 and CoH they have shown for several years now that they are more than willing to offer free updates to their games. I don't know of any other who has done the same, as many times as NCSoft has in the past.

    To Point 1)

Its strange but it as if we would play a different game :) I am now level 45 and I NEVER ever grinded on a spot for mobs and then went to antoher spot - rinse and repeat - I played L2 and I know what grind means - but Aion has NOTHING to do with the Korean grind behaviour.... Maybe you never joined a group in Aion or you wanted to hit level cap very fast. But there is definately no need to grind alone in a single spot or in a manner like you are used to from asian grinders...

If you have groups, there are so many quests out there which give a lot of XP, and then all the instances. At 40 we are doing mostly instances, some in Elyos area and you can even do the ones in enemy territory - even more rewarding. Also those inis are very large and challenging (not like Fire Templer/Nochsana). So I am pretty sure you didnt see the potential because you just wanted to go to next level and thus feeled the need to grind...

Like I said I never ever grinded as of yet and I am already level 45 (for me leveling goes too fast really)... mostly doing instances, group quests or elite areas... and if I am alone I PvP in abyss...

    Point 2)

Well as you can see they are expanding in these areas day to day.... and hopefully they are getting better - just look at the moment they are doing more and more against it, the effects can already be seen with the high deflation of money. Hopefully they keep up the good work in the future...

Looks nice but many things shown in video were promised for second part of Guild Wars.

Wouldn't be suprised if GW 2 development and AION 3.0 are somehow connected.

I did read somewhere thet ArenaNet guys were playing Aion.

  • KordeshKordesh Member Posts: 1,715

Honestly, I wish the damn "Grind" complaints would quit already. Even I can admit the game isn't a god damn grind! Just because you're busy suckling from WoWs teet where you can stumble around for two minutes and manage to gain 5 levels, doesn't mean that everything that doesn't have the same xp rate is a grind.

My gripe with Aion is its just as static and linear as every other MMO at the moment. Is it really too much to freaking ask to let players make a mark on the world with their actions? Keep control is just bragging rights, and doesn't really change a damn thing. Maybe if they actually let you upgrade said keeps, and they contributed in some way besides "Hey look its ours". Housing is a very very basic form in that it gives players a place to call home and develop, but most of the time the system is tacked on and unrefined.

If that last part is an actual dynamic battlefield, and not just some scripted instance scene, I could see Aion being interesting. The weather system is welcome as well. However, I don't see them actually getting this out in a time frame that actually matters (as in before other games that already have this release) and their chilling silence since dropping this video on everyone isn't exactly reassuring either.

Its as if they want us to speculate as much as possible and hype it up before they reveal whats going on, which is likely the case given that good features or not, the video was a marketing ploy to keep subs up for Q4.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

I feel aion could use a higher level cap, and some pvp area's besides the abyss, Underwater forts? Maybe forts in all zones. They got rift';s so why not have attackable forts in their home zones? I got aion when it first came out and personally i was rather unimpressed, it felt more like a rehash of linage II than a new game. IMO NCsoft really needs to fix the pvp aspect, remove the bonus damage and defense from being higher level, for the people that don't know, for each level you are above someone you get a perfect increase to your damage you deal to them, and a percent reduction in dmg they can deal to you. As Aion is now even if you have crap gear, as long as your 5 levels above someone you'll most likely roll them, However if this bonus damage was removed.. if the lower level has top gear for their level they'd have a good chance at fending you off. 5 levels is not a majorly huge diff in terms of gear statistics. Unless we talking 40+. I just dislike this level based pvp crap. On my chars anytime someone is 5 lvs above me i die almost everything due to the fact I hit them for single digits due to their free dmg resistance bonuses. and they hit me in the triple digits I just learn to sit and die because fighting back vs someone 5 lvs higher has proven pointless to me.

  • ScyrisScyris Member UncommonPosts: 149

One of the things that majorly turned me off on Aion, was the whole flight system, Whats the point of giving us wings if you can't use them for 85% of the game? Its was so annoying having to slowly run everywhere when my char has wings (Yes I know about gliding but thats just a cop out by NCSoft IMO) if they won't let us fly anywhere, Mounts should have been in the game at release. Even free to play mmo's have frigging mounts at release now a days.

Looks pretty good.  This is why I'm sticking with both Fallen Earth and Aion - they're both so different but they both have such potential.  The games are both fun for me now, but I have a feeling that they will continue to improve by leaps and bounds in the future.

In the mean time, yes, I actually like playing Aion and enjoy the game - especially now that NCSoft has started addressing some of the botting/gold farming issues.

6-8 months or a year? Yeah right. Dream on!

Current AION is using the very first CryEngine wich is simply not capable of that. They already modified it to the extreme and pushed it to the edge.

They will have to upgrade to the latest CryEngine or a completely different one to even support DX10.

You think they can do a whole game engine overhaul within a year? Don't think so. Especially, since CryTek started from the ground up with CryEngine 2 and up.

So they can't even simply upgrade from CryEngine 1 to version 2 or higher, because it's not compatible.

So this is either going to be a far away future expansion or even AION 2.

Plus, like I said in the other topic.

A fancy overhaul isn't going to magically solve the excessive botting and cheating problem!

So rather then spending all their energy in stuff like this, they should spend their energy in fixing their darn game clients and make them more secure! So they aren't so easily hackable and bot friendly!

So for me this is nothing more then a fancy video and shows that NCSoft has a big plate in front of their heads and ignore the REAL problems with their game and WHY people quit!!!

    Cheers

    "

some one made this comment in another thread that got locked...i just wanna say... are you dumb? the part about Aion and these fabled updates not being "compatible" was just stupid. Crytek did build the Cryengine 2 from the ground up but they did not use a different infastructure to do it. It is, in a sense the same as the cry engine 1 and could easily be upgraded to. They used the same language to run the cry engine 2 as well(lest they wanted to learn a new language...not likely). The only real changes that were made were the work flow of the engine, graphic pipelines/ scripting methods, and making the engine do what they wanted to it to do(to make crysis no doubt). Thats what companies that make their own engines do. They make it so that its easy to make their game. and then they sell it.

to the comments about them not fixing the current issues. They've already made mass bans for the bots(which seems to be their style now) and have released a patch to fix the crashing in fortress raids and in everyday gameplay. I havent crashed in a fortress raid since that patch. The game runs fine on my system with a Geforce GTX 2601G of memory built in and a 3.1(overclocked) dual core processor and 4 gigs of ram. A good computer is more than jsut a good gfx card you know >.>.

Obviously your just not paying attention or your computer sucks. The bots are still around because people are still lazy. and more and more lazy people will try to bot their way to the top. and more and more of them will be banned. Ncsoft seems to like to wait for a long list of bots and sellers then do a massive ban-ftw.

Honestly these updates seem pretty close. Contrary to some peoples belief that was ingame footage. ofcourse they were controlled environments, but it was ingame. The game has been out for over a year in korea. and the korean team is the one developing the game(not NC west who only does the localization for the US/ canada) has had plenty of time to cook up some stuff. and you know how these koreans are with mmo's. they krank em out like a pimp cranks out ho's.

6-8 months seems reasonable. Im sure they wont do everything at once. I can see the Graphics and mounts/other adds being implemented in that 6-8 month time frame then everything else will come in later patches.

Obviously they've given us a platform to stand on. and now theyve given us the sunroof to look out of. now we must make our way to that sunroof to get to the pool on the roof ...cus we forgot to build an elevator to get there. You cant just jump there you have to build your way up. These things will come in due time. Definitely before the end of 2010 imo.

I like where the game is going. It looks great now. and with this it will be awesome.

    cheers

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.

I love this trailer and happy to know what I can look forward to in Aion. I'm enjoying Aion alot and just for them having player housing alone makes me feel good in the choice of my choice of a mmo I am paying to play. The 1.5.3 did a great deal of getting rid of bots and spamers.

The client isnt hacked so far. And Im fully aware about the couple of youtube videos showing strange flight scenes of some old version, or bots looking through hide II or something like that. Feel free to post some solid prove that Im wrong.

Bots are 3rd party programs and NCSoft would need something like gameguard to have a theoretical chance at disabling them. Experience shows, gameguard is crap and is doing nothing beside bugging around.

    > ...and ignore the REAL problems with their game and WHY people quit!!!

From my guild not a single one quittet because of bots or gold spammer. Its more the fault of Dragon Age Origins, CoD 2, Left from Dead and such games. I dont know a single guy which ragequittet because of bots, but _everyone_ is damn ANNOYED by the rampant botting.

If I wouldnt have experienced the graphic update in Eve with the Trinity expansion I would have said the trailer is just show and a damn nice CGI film mixed with some beefed up ingame graphics. After experiencing Trinity I still think think that Aions vision is just a vision, but there is a chance that we get some better graphics in the future. I dont expect to have armees of giant things marching around and smashing things up, but better textures, housing, pets and mounts is something which is in reach.

When I see a player made video with all the updates and improved visuals mentioned to be offered in this new update actually in it then I'll believe it. Until then it looks like a lot of hype to me.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

    GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

What i saw in the video was how much time it will take to implement all of that. I mean im currently subbed for a year but i doubt i'll see any of those changes during my sub time. Aion is gonna stay the same old pretty grind game for a long time, this is just another hype video to either get who un-subbed to re-sub or keep us who are currently subbing and to give us hope that the game will get better, in some odd way's even though they are 2 different beast the production feels like CO (Promises of getting better but with the patches really nothing)

The video aion vision is all ingame gameplay none of it was cinematic or preplanned. It was using everything they already have been developing to add to the game.

they stated that on their site? You can just as easily gone there and looked. You could also just google the video and find out that it is.

That does look very cool. All of the new features they are adding sound great.

However, none of it will matter if the grind is still intense and the gameplay remains underwhelming.... That is, of course, only my opinion.
