Are you serious? You think FFXIV is more anticipated than SWTOR or even STO ??

    Is this a joke?

Been playing MMOs for 11 years now and FFXI is definitely in my top 3 games ever in this genre. Good choice on FFXIV! :)

STO is already a failure with their PvKP {Player vs Klingon Play} reminiscent of LOTRO's PvMP {Player vs Monster Play} which to most is a complete waste of resources for a supposed PvE focused game, which runs on those PvP rules though...just silly!

SW:TOR, sure its anticipated, but also has a ton of WTF Online Paid Single-Player RPG!  What about a world to explore and group content...so far its all solo with NPCs to help if you choose to have them join you.

FFXIV however, has a world to explore, its focused on providing the players one very good choice in PvE, and not trying to mix PvP together which causes a ton of unbalanced negative mayhem.  Plus and thank goodness a developer thats not playing the copy/paste game trying to emulate WoW's success, instead they have stood up and challenged Blizzard.  I really don't care who is on top or has the leading reign, but what I do care about is playing something unique and different that challenges the norm and says NO we're not gonna do that...we're doing our own thing!

I was wondering when one of these guys would show up. Just because it's not your personal pick doesn't mean it's not highly anticipated or the most anticipated. If you've noticed SWTOR and FFXIV seem to battle neck and neck on the hype meter here.

FF isn't my most anticipated game, but I'll definitely be giving it a whirl when it comes out.

My most anticipated game is SWTOR, but with each passing month I'm beginning to doubt the game will make it in time for a 2010 release myself. I'm still hopeful though.

I wish I could say that having yet another hardcore style MMO would be a good thing in that it would help occupy the hardcore players, but you people insist on playing the casual games too and what's worse is that you insist on griping to other players and the developers on how the gameplay needs to change to cater to you, essentially ruining the game for casuals.  Obviously, you people are never happy unless it's all about you and your preferences.  My most anticipated game is Star Wars The Old Republic, but you'd think it was the coming of the Anti-Christ by the sheer amount of vitriol spewing from hardcore gamers.  Demanding that the premise of the game change or it will be an utter failure, despite it's already large support from casual players.  You can argue till you're blue in the face about how casual games have gotten, but they still have far too many hardcore elements and preferential treatment of hardcore gamers that it essentially ruins these games for the intended casual market.

So, I'm going to return the favor.  I hope FFXIV has just enough casual content to piss you people off and ruin your gaming experience, lord knows you've done this to just about every casual game so far.  What's the phrase I'm looking for......oh yeah, "Turnabout is fair play"

Hm, I barely know anything about it, besides some screenshots. Is it console only? Or will it be launched on PC as well?

It will be available for PC as well as the PS3.  There are some out there wishing for it to be available for 360... but I don't see that happening anytime soon :)

There are dozens of casual MMOs already and many of our so called hardcore ones already changed to more casual, and every single one of them has some form of PvP in it.  We FFXI fans are of course excited and hoping that our next MMO being FFXIV stick to its strengths of being primarily PvE, and have a more challenging nature.  Insisting on one hardcore MMO out of the tons of casual options is hardly ruining anything for you casual gamers.

We few hardcore gamers among all the casuals have more than enough reason to voice our opinions and hope we get what we want for once!

While I see where you come from, though I wouldn't use the term "you people" (lumping all "hardcore players" together when we all don't see things that way), games can not be designed to please everyone.  Either there's too much pve, too much pvp, not enough this, too much of that, there will never be a game (and if there is I would like to know of it) that will please everyone.  What the developers "try" to do is find out what the majority wants to play.  If the majority wants more of this, and the developers feel it would add to the game (plus profit is always a plus), it will add that element.  SWTOR will be a great game.  I agree with the editor, that the main reason why it did not win the award is due to the uncertainty of it being released in 2010.  Now, I say this as a "hardcore player" as well as an avid FF fan.  I am not saying that FFXIV didn't deserve the award.  As many stated, it is neck and neck.  I just believe that SWTOR didn't get it due to release dates.

    I couldn't agree more :)

I have been watching this game forever, long before it was even announced as codename: Rapture. It will be also released for the 360, this is almost guaranteed. The "official" statement is that it is being released for the PC and PS3 first, but SE has said they'd been wanting to also release it for the 360 as well.

I wholeheartedly agree with making FFXIV the most anticipated game of 2010 (with or without SW: ToR or STO), as would any other sane person who knows the defining features that make it unique from the rest of the mainstream MMO scene. Great job selecting it! Let's hear some more light shed on the game through this website please!!

I did "hear" about them (SE) having talks with Microsoft about developing it for the 360, but nothing other than that.

Wasn't Global agenda the most anticipated of 2009 here? :)

FF14, GW2 and SW is the big upcoming releases but I doubt any of them will be released this year.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

I'll bet you money that FFXIV will be released this year.  Star Wars is another story.   FFXIV is about to start its beta and they've said they are ahead of the development schedule.  It's anywhere from an August - December 2010 release.

  • KieraLeiKieraLei Member Posts: 18

Yea, so far speculations are, for FFXIV, the beta will start right around (or a little after) the release of FFXIII.  It will be longer than the FFXI beta, due to them doing the beta in smaller group stages.  So more than likely, the end of 2010 is when we'll be able to see the release.

It was the staffs most anticipated. I dont believe it is the entire community's choice. FFXI turned out to be less than desirable by most. It's successful in the sense it is still active. But if that is the case then SWG is also successful.

I have to say I believe SW:TOR, Huxley, Allods, APB, WOW:Cataclysm, and just about every other mmo being more in demand and much more anticipated.

Yeah, Final Fantasy really isn't popular in the North America, at all. It has to be a game developed by a company from the Great United States of America to be a viable choice. Odinsassassi must also know at least few people that have any interest in said game, or no one has.

MMORPG.com has never seemed to use logic or facts when it comes to making their choices for these awards - this year is no different. Look at their choices from previous years and see how they're doing now...
