i stand corrected its the korean grindfests aion lineage. point is still the same how a game no one in my gaming world has any interest in playing won most anticipated is beyong me guess its same as how that pos aion won best of 2009. so many other interestiong mmos coming out in 2010 playing some pos from square is a huge waste of time but hey you people enjoy you game i will enjoy mine i really don't care about this game just how it wins this award pretty much rules out any validity on this award. i have tried the ff games in the past and that is why its not interesting i prefer to play with adults not kids
So you're gaming world is representative of everyone else? This reminds me of a very famous political quote. It came from a supporter of a presidential candidate who only won one state (New York). When interviewed, she said, I can't believe the other guy won (the other guying carrying 49 states). She continued to say... "I don't know how he could have won, I don't know anyone that voted for him."
If you live in your own little world, I wouldn't be surprised that this game isn't on your radar. On the flipside, I'm the complete opposite of you. When I heard FFXIV was coming out, I immediately felt that if I didn't have to buy another game for 5 more years, I would still be happy. That's how much FFXI meant to some people.
I've played FF's all my life and my all time favorite games are FF. SquareEnix is a heavy weight in the gaming industry. Their games are deep both in character development and story. One of the best things about SE is that they dont' cave in to majority will. They know exactly what game they want to create and no Western MMO trend will change that. For some of us, we've been waiting for this alternative for the last few years.
It was the staffs most anticipated. I dont believe it is the entire community's choice. FFXI turned out to be less than desirable by most. It's successful in the sense it is still active. But if that is the case then SWG is also successful.
I have to say I believe SW:TOR, Huxley, Allods, APB, WOW:Cataclysm, and just about every other mmo being more in demand and much more anticipated.
theres a big diffrence between 10k or less and 400k plus. btw thats called hype Se dont really hype there game
While i'm not a fan of FFXI i did play it for awhile and while it doesnt have WoW numbers something to remember is that the game hasnt actually ever gone below its number of players since launch. It has only increased, so compare that to just about every other MMO out there and I think you have your answer on how successful it is. That coupled with the fact its a 7 year old MMO you gotta know they are doing something right. SWG however...yeah everyone knows that story. So yeah, FFXI is very successful, and on a much larger scale than most MMOs.
what's worse is that you insist on griping to other players and the developers on how the gameplay needs to change to cater to you, essentially ruining the game for casuals. Obviously, you people are never happy unless it's all about you and your preferences.
There are dozens of casual MMOs already and many of our so called hardcore ones already changed to more casual, and every single one of them has some form of PvP in it. We FFXI fans are of course excited and hoping that our next MMO being FFXIV stick to its strengths of being primarily PvE, and have a more challenging nature. Insisting on one hardcore MMO out of the tons of casual options is hardly ruining anything for you casual gamers.
We few hardcore gamers among all the casuals have more than enough reason to voice our opinions and hope we get what we want for once!
What really gets me now a days is the fact that if an MMO does not have instant reward or instant/fast leveling its hard core or grind heavy. My first MMO was FF11 and left for WoW (buddy was playing wow at time and suggested it to me). Since than I have played the other major mmos that have came out since wows conception and it only seems that a lot of people want to GO GO GO and not enjoy (dont get me wrong if you enjoy speedy leveling thats your pref.). I really look forward to this and SWtor, witch talk about bringing back the RPG in MMORPG..right now imo all mmos are just M M O Gs with rpg aspects sure they have story but who really follows it..much. My fondest memories of playing an mmo were hanging with friends Real life and online and enjoying our selves. all in all my point being, just because a game takes longer for you to advance does not make it hard core, its the player that chooses to be OR make a game hard core..for the most part.
Final Fantasy is the only new mmorpg that I'm at all interested in this year. Guild Wars 2 won't be coming out until at least 2011, Star Trek is a dud, and I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed by Star Wars.
Surely the most pointless award on the list, and one that hardly makes for a healthy gaming industry. It is this hyped up concern with what is coming rather than what we are playing now, that leaves us playing half baked MMO’s while fantasying about how good the ones to come will be.
Woot, lets all hold hands and agree that FF is just so wonderful. Then all us fan boys can hug. Dear god how on earth anybody can be looking forward to this continuation of rubbish I simply can not guess. Sorry if you think I'm being a troll but the mass of posts saying how wonderful this game is going to be made me feel sick enough to want to say. Not all of us are looking forward to this game. Some of us actually are looking forward to playing something decent! And I'd like to know how mmorpg site picked this mmo as most anticipated? I'm guessing name out of a hat method
Aww Earthise not even on the list ;<? Too bad...and ya ppl...FFIV will have decent pvp for ur info. Some1 who applied to CB and red all stuff there shud know.
different company.. different country. can't see how it will ever be an aion-2.
here you go.. Aion's Vision 2010, their attempt at fixing many of the problems they've had prior to the U.S. release date. In all their interviews they mentioned working hard on developing an 'expansion' (which I believe to be free) before it released outside of Korea. www.youtube.com/watch
If their "vision" is making the environments change from cold to warm climate, that sounds a bit lame tbh. Cool concept, but too much work for too little gain, especially in this point in the game's life. Content over aesthetics.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

Rather all of us make baseless claims that this game will be "a continuation of rubbish"? You're just as moronic as those people, although those people actually have some validity in their words. Too bad you can't accept that this game is going to be good. Hopefully once it comes out you will realize how moronic you were.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
First off nothing but crap has been comming out of square the last few years and they need to let final fantasy die i mean 14 games none of them any good like seriously let it die. As for PVE i love PVE hate PVP but i still would rather not play anything than this game. Point i am trying to make over all is that you have 2 of the biggest sci fi franchises ever both comming out with MMO in 2010 and this crappy FF14 gets most anticipated i seriously dount it. who did they poll a buch of 12yr olds geez. As for popularity who cares 14 friggin games and i dont know anyone who has played any of them or wants to
I'd have to agree with this choice. This game and World of Darkness Online are the only two games I'm interested in playing in 2010, if WoDO launches late this year.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

Well, if we use that logic many companies need to let their franchises die. I mean like 8 Resident Evil's have come out already, let it die already! Oh wait, some people like these games so they'd rather not see them die.
You reasons to not play this game are irrational. You base it on the fact that in your opinion nothing good has come out of SE in recent years (which is the opposite case actually, while you might only have heard from the bad titles).
Your point is as irrational as ever. We have 1 of the biggest fantasy franchises ever coming out with an MMO which is a sequel to well done MMO from the last decade, that matters more than a franchise with million bad games under their belt and a company with good Single Player Games making an MMO title without any experience from the genre. It is logical choice. You are not logical though, so feel free to rant a bit more if it makes you feel better.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".

Really?
I don't know anyone who didn't play at least one FF game(there are a lot more than 14 if you count the several variations by the way)
Games such as FF7 are classics and will be always remembered in the history of gaming.
The irony is that you call the people who chose this 12 years olds yet you are extremely misinformed about this IP. If you had any history in gaming, it would be impossible to not have at least tried a FF game or have a friend who played it.
Well for started MR Spock my reasons are not irrational you may disagree with my reasons but they are my reaosn and in the only opinion here that counts to me very good reasons. The last few experiences with SE games have been crap do you really think im going to give them the benefit of the doubt and more of my money then you are the ilogical one. As for your biggest fantasy franchise WHAT!!!! you want to try to compare FF to star wars and star trek ...you are an even bigger fool that i though. i have been gaming for 25yrs and have yet to meet anyone who has played any FF game. so im not buying this biggest fantasy franchise crap.....have a good time playing your game. i will be playing mine and very content in the fact i wont run into you.

"My reasons are not irrational, because *insert an irrational reason here*". Okay.
The last few experiences of SE MMO's? The design teams are completely different when it comes to single player titles and online ones. If you had a poor experience with title X, that means zit because title Y is not developed by the same people. But it's not the people that make games, it's the evil company that does, right? Every game is the same, right?
You heard it here first, "one of the biggest" != "biggest". I'd call you a fool but you're kinda doing that yourself already.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
you want to try to compare FF to star wars and star trek ...you are an even bigger fool that i though.
It's pretty valid.
SE has FF11 behind(which is a very succesful game) while Star Wars has SWG behind(which was done by a very different company and it's a very different game compared to SWTOR)and Star Trek Online is the first real MMORPG in the franchise(there might be some browser ones, but you get the point).
Guess in what game we have more faith? IPs alone do not make a game, but the fact that SE has some great experience in the genre, while Cryptic seemed to dissapoint many gamers lately.

FF is a huge franchise. Star Wars and Star Trek is smaller over there in Japan then FF is here in America. Final Fantasy is popular over here, more so then you can imagine. I don't know where you've been or who you're "friends" are, but ignoring the fact that FF has a huge IP behind it's back, you're just being ignorant. FFXI was a success and it was Square's first attempt at an MMO with this being their second so there should be no such 'doubts' from your part regarding this game. You seem to hate just for the sake of hating and it's going no where.
Really excited for this game. Square seems to have a very focused vision for what they want this game to be and thankfully it's not shaping up to be a wow clone. I've always loved the FF games and the chance to share an EPIC FF story with friends is VERY exciting. Couple that with an intent to go more casual (but hopefully not TOO casual) makes me very happy indeed. The Grind of FFXI isn't what I couldn't stand about it. It was the harsh punishments and way too much downtime. I don't mind grind if the gameplay is engaging. The armory and guild leve systems sounds like something that could keep me grinding for hours just to make my character better.
I think a lot of people underestimate how popular FF is in he west as well as east. Some of you may not know anyone interested in this game but most of my friends are.
Oh well like i said you play your game i will play mine no danger of ever seeing me in your game. to each his own. i have been gaming for 25yrs never have or never will be interested in this game and as popular as you say it is i know no one who have played it or will play it. sorry folks so enjoy it.

Still doesn't give you the right to falsify the information and popularity of this game. No ones a fool in believing this game is comparable to the likes of games or IPs you mentioned before.
I have a hard time believing that. ALL of my gamer friends have played at least one FF game and all but of my gamer friends are avid fans of the series. Even my one friend who isn't much of a fan played 1 and 4. I'm from the US and I've played FF 1,4,5,6,7,8,9,X, X-2, XI, XII FFT, other square games include ChronoTrigger and Xenogears and this is pretty much the norm for every gamer I know US and otherwise.
STO once interested me but Cryptic has a habit of Fail in their mmos and STO is shaping up to be more of the same Cryptic mediocrity.

Wow what a whine-fest.
You're unhappy that a game you don't like was chosen and you're feeling very emo about it. Got it.
As for the last statement about "popularity" and 14 games... and you not knowing anyone who has played or wants to? First of all... There are 14 games - not to mention a number of spin-offs - *because* the franchise is popular and a lot of people *do* play it. See, that's kinda how it works.
As for not knowing anyone who plays... Seriously? So what do they call this little bubble world you live in? Or, do you limit yourself to only associating with people who don't like FF games? Or... maybe you're full of crap and pulled that entire bit out of your ass? Or maybe you thought by making such a strong statement, it would give your post more "oomph" (it didn't)?

There's obviously a common misconception by FF fans. Not everyone came to computer gaming from the consoles developed and released in the 90's. The vast majority of Ultima Online and Everquest players where people like me, who hadn't played a lot of console games since the Atari 2600 went by the wayside.
I love RPG's, but FF never appealed to me. First, there's the stupid name. How can you have a Final Fantasy II? Do the developers not know what the word "Final" means in English? If you can't get the title right, this implies there's going to be translation errors throughout. Maybe that's not the case, but it's implied and a very poor marketing decision if they're trying to grab a more sophisticated gaming market. Then there was the graphics, that have seemed to evolve from an anime style to now, what looks like EQ 2.5 with bigger ears. Not appealing.
Imagine that you didn't grow up reading Magna comic books and playing on a console, but instead grew up playing Wizardy, Ultima and the SSI games on computers while reading Tolkein, Donaldson and Asmiov.
That's how FF*()& is not appealing. It's just not.
Now, I understand that I'm not the target market and that you console gamers are, but don't run around saying that FF is the best game ever, when you haven't even defeated Werdna or completed the Quest of the Avatar.
For my money the most anticipated games are:
Star Wars
Mortal Online
Guild Wars 2 (though I thought the first was crap, and they like big ears too)

Guild Wars 2 (though I thought the first was crap, and they like big ears too)
Star Trek
