"To sum up, don't assume too much from one example of four-player team combat that we're showing at E3. We hope you like the team dynamic we're showing to folks here, but we don't want you guys to read too much into it. At a later date, we'll definitely try to show you some different strategies and team dynamics so you can get a better idea of the breadth of the experience of team combat in TOR."
In short, what the guy is really saying is they have no idea what the final gameplay mechanics, grouping, etc is going to be like since they have not figured it out yet.
Not that there is anything wrong with that, however the guy comes across like a snake-oil salesman when he uses long winded babbling explanations instead of just being straight forward.
Isn't it unfair to critisize this game for not being something that it was never trying to be? This game was never trying to be Ultima Online or SWG. I can understand you being dissapointed back when there was little to no information on the game, but now it seems like everyone knows what type of game this will be, and yet many still persist in acting like they've been lied to or betrayed in some manner. I don't have a problem with people criticizing the game, but I just don't understand the expectations you guys dreamed up. What did the developers say that made you think that this would be another class-less utopia? What did the initial interviews and videos do to make you expect the sweeping revitalization of the sandbox model?
I can answer that for you. Nothing.
People have a problem in that we often fail to judge a product by its own merits and instead, attempt to judge the product by what we wish it was. I believe there are valid criticisms within the SW:ToR community, namely the animations (although being an EQ2 vet, they don't bother me personally), the art style, and the various aspects of the story-based gameplay, but the complaints of players whining about group play, use of instancing, and the quest-based design make me laugh.
The difference is group A is complaining about the implementation of certain features whereas group B is complaining about the inclusion of feature X or the exclusion of feature Y. Group A consist of fans of the game. Group B does not. SW:TOR will be a fine casual, story-based mmorpg, and many members of Group A will play. Group B consists of people who simply do not like design decisions and hence cannot be considered fans of the game or among its target audience.
I'm sure ArenaNet and their history of producing classless, skill-based, sandbox mmorpgs with gigantic open worlds will satisfy the complaints of group B with their upcoming Guild Wars 2.
In short, what the guy is really saying is they have no idea what the final gameplay mechanics, grouping, etc is going to be like since they have not figured it out yet.
If that's not alarming then I dont know what is.
Few months before BETA gameplay mechanics and grouping not figured out yet?
Wow.....
Dont you guys worry though, all voice overs are done, confirmed!
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
Veteran MMO player bitterness, it's like nurd rage but deadlier. Seriously the money EA put into TOR's development is like more than WoW and WAR combined. If it flops it's gonna be the biggest fail in gaming of all time. If I had to make a bet though I would bet that its gonna do well, maybe not epic but still good. You can't go wrong with that much money. You throw 10 million into a MMO you might not get 10 million in value out but youre gonna get above a certain amount.
And I hate to make this about WoW but... Guild Wars attacked WoW in 2003 stealing a few subscribers. It was a tiny dent in the armor, then Lineage attacked. WoW barely felt it. Eve Online, EQ2, Lineage 2, FF XI, Star Wars Galaxies. Ok WoW starts to slow down a little bit, not growing as many subscribers.
WAR launches, biggest hit to WoW yet, but eventually gains back most of the subscribers that left. Aion launches and does more damage than WAR. STO takes a swing and bounces off WoWs shield. Next up waiting to take a punch, GW 2, Tera, DC Online, and TOR. I think it's downhill for WoW from here. They would be lucky if they just lose subscribers slowly instead of a big jump or huge exodus, like to TOR. lol
And I don't buy that crap that more MMOs grow the market. If that was true you wouldn't see a dip in WoWs player base when other MMOs launch.
In short, what the guy is really saying is they have no idea what the final gameplay mechanics, grouping, etc is going to be like since they have not figured it out yet.
If that's not alarming then I dont know what is.

They will be doing testing in certain areas of the game at the start.
Something like:
First phase tests 1-10
Second 11-20 (start of advanced class testing)
etc.
This was done in a few games I tested, it's nothing new. Gives them time to gather information from early gameplay that could affect end game.
Pulled from SWTOR Beta FAQ
How many people will be chosen for testing?
The number of testers required at any given time will change throughout the duration of the testing program. There will be several testing groups, each made up of varying numbers of players to test different areas of the game. We anticipate there being far more applicants than testers needed. All applications are subject to the review of BioWare and LucasArts and may be accepted or rejected in BioWare and LucasArts’ sole discretion. Submission of an application and agreement to the terms and conditions of the testing program does not guarantee your participation in the test or that you will be selected as a tester.
How long is each testing session?
The duration of each testing session will vary depending on what content or features are being tested.
Welcome to beta testing btw. Must be your first time.
Rofl you nerds will be begging for me, for anyone teen+ basically.
SWTOR is made for the children and thats what you are going to play with.
Good luck, may the force be with you, you'll need it.
I'll be chilling in GW2 exploring new fresh features, combat systems, new approaches to questing and character development, improved mob AI, best PVP to date etc etc, while rest of you grind BGs for that shiny armor with the rest of the kiddies, the same things you been doing for the last decade.
My money is on me having more fun.
this is exactly the kind of douche we'll be happy to avoid

So I take it, SWTOR wont have people like you, that insults others for playing a game you believe is for children based on appearance.
Not sure I'm upset about that honestly.
PS - Nerd, intersting choice in describing SWTOR gamers. I'm all for playing with some nerds. Should be a great community.

Gah. GW2 looks as bad as FF. Good luck with that sir.
Lol interpret things however you like, has nothing to do with the bad game design of SWTOR.
Nothing can help it anymore , it's a trainwreck in the making and deep down even the bigest fans know it, they feel it.
It's for the best though, a major flop like this is needed in order for the game designers to wake up and revamp/refresh the genre.
That means working heh, thinking creativly, you know, game designer job, instead of rehashing the decade old stuff over and over.
SWTOR must fall for the genre to be reborn hehe, I like the sound of that.
So in order for MMO rebirth a more-then-likely-highly-successful MMORPG must fail? You'd think 'creativity' would stand out.
Since you're an expect in failure, why is ToR destined to fail. And what makes GW2 more creative then current and upcoming games (including ToR). I figure since you're here, you're trying to convert people, help them see the light. Enlighten me.
