ER's release date.

So there is a distinct group of those who believe the development of ER is going at a normal pace, and there are those who believe that the game is being delayed and developers are feeding us bull shit instead of real progress.

Game has been delayed numerous times, and latest announcement was that game will be released by the end of fall. So if MHS will not deliver full game or open beta by end of fall, will those who believe that ER is fine accept the fact that devs have been  feeding us bull shit and probably lied about lots of things?

If it doesn't release by their estimated release date, I'm not going to be surprised.  A lot of releases get pushed back due to bugs.  That's what beta testing is for.

Do I hope it releases in the next couple of months?  Of course.  This is the only game coming out anytime soon that really has my attention.  Am I going to go rampaging all over this forum and theirs if it gets delayed again?  No.  I can cope with a bug here and there at release, but if there's something major that needs fixing, then they need to fix it before release so it doesn't drive players away from the game.

Funcom released Anarchy Online and Age of Conan before they ironed out some major issues, and they've paid dearly for it.  Hopefully a lot of other companies have learned from Funcom's mistakes.

For me it isn't about the delay itself, for me it's about the total lack of information about these questions.

If Masthead doens't tell anything about it and still delay the game another few month, then this shows me, that the developer isn't worth playing their game, allthough the game might be the best ever made. I just don't give my money to people not willing to tell anything.

More information would be nice, and I'm certainly not searching desperately for a 'preorder' button (I never do for any game), but the silence doesn't scare me.  Yet.  Six months to a year down the road with still no release, maybe I'll worry.

I'm in the same boat.  I can understand keeping things under wraps during testing, but this is getting a bit beyond that.  People need to know what the game is about to become interested.... so far little is known about the actual game let alone the issues causing delays in its release.

It is going past curiosity and entering into irritating.... almost like it is going to end up being vaporware.  They need a PR guy big time.

    I don't give a shit.

Let them delay it ten more times for the next three years.

If that's what they have to do to deliver a game that doesnt completely blow ass like Darkfall and Mortal Online then so be it!

Ironing bugs is what beta testers, and just becuase other devs push their dates further doesnt mean that its acceptable. Some games have done it too many times due to problems, and shutdown their projects soonafter, Darkand LIght..  AO stil has subscribers and was one of the best gamse of the time, AOC had no noticeble bugs but the gmae itself was pure garbage with no freedom.

Point i was trying to make wit this post is that devs are feeding us bullshit time after time.

I get really surprised when i see people say that they will still wait another year or even three for this game. Im pretty sure that you wont, and even if you do in 3 years this game will lose alot of its flavor, the engine will be crap by that time. In 3 years a good complany can release 2 mmos.

are you suggesting that a company could manage to come up with an idea and create 2 games and release within the time span of only 3 years? Because if thats what you're saying. Those are the companies producing absolute shit games.

They can take as long as they need if the product in the end is worth it.  Both DF and MO had a lot of potential if more time was spent cookin in the oven.

I don't know how long MO was in the oven, but DF was in there for a long time and still had a crap launch.

That said, I can wait longer for Earthrise. It's the only upcoming game that I'm seriously looking at. GW2, TERA and UWO all look interesting, but I'm not as excited about them as I am Earthrise.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

ER promises what we all really want from an MMO, all those other games you listed, are pretty much same old stuff. Check your pm box.

You are comparing a game that had to make a new engine from scratch to a game that the company already had a working engine.   Earthrise is a TOTALLY new engine and with new engines comes A LOT of bugs and other problems. So of course their is going to be delays.

DF is also in a different ball park. DF was having problems with funding the development of the game. Earthrise in the other hand does not. They have plenty of funding to keep development on this game.

Masthead is still lacking the required professionality a AAA-game requires these days.

It's not professional to not release any information about the state of the game with a still announced release within the next few weeks.
If they have to delay the release, then that's all fine, but they should announce the delay couple of weeks/month before the announced release and not afterwards like they did it the last time.

It's also not professional to announce new videos and not delivering anything... It's 9 month since then!

Shouldn't this be pretty much expected of ANY new indie company that does not have people that have already been in a AAA-game development team? I thought that was pretty much common sense and I also thought it was common sense to know that Masthead is not making a AAA-game.

Let them do what they want it is not like they are feeding us shit and giving us a half assed game like many other games out in the market. It could be a lot worse. You just need to step back and take a break from Earthrise or following Earthrise. A lot of these things are not major problems and people need to be patient for once in there life.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE VIDEO! When it comes out it comes out! It is not like something we need right away!

What's the deal with all this talk of professionalism?

If professionalism is spending tens of millions of dollars in marketing; hiring 100 freshly graduated "developers"; hyping the crap out of your product wih videos, dev blogs, and other garbage, and finally releasing a game that amounts to a steaming pile of poo, then I'll take "amatuer" any day of the week.

Would you say that Blizzard is not being professional with their new IP MMO?  That has been in development for 2 years now and still no one knows what it is.

Just because they are not feeding us information does not mean they are not acting in a professional manner.  I agree with what Masthead is doing, most of the time when an MMO has a defined release date or sends out game information often people will find even more ways to get upset.

There has bin no modern  "AAA" MMO to date that took less then five years to make. (modern as in new engine,3d and sutch)

All MMO's claimed to bin made whitin those five years heavly used 3th party engines or other pre-made ready to ship engines to power their MMO. (and even then its real hard to do it, specialy for a indy )

Earthrise will rise when it rises or falls into the apocalyptic fire as so many before.

Nobody paid money yet so theres no need to claim, blaim and flame the game yet.

I just want the game to release in a completed and highly playable state. I just don't have it in me to support another game for years while the developers try to make a game meet it's full potential (something that should have been done at release).
