If you buy it now and just sit on your CD key, you can register a new Station account and get the 30 days started when the server is released.
Yup and Amazon has the same deal, $19.99 for House of Thule. It's all you gotta buy to get all 17 of 17 expansions flagged for your account. Use it for existing old accounts if you care about veteran rewards. If not, create a new soe account and you get 30 day free.
I just cannot see playing EQ1 again, even on progression. I admit, it's the graphics at this point. I'd rather be tied to a chair and forced to watch Betty White and Joan Rivers do a burlesque routine than to stare at those aged EQ graphics one more time.
I actually prefer the earthy graphics of eq1 compared to the comic booky graphics of other more current and upcoming games. Especially the character graphics.
I agree. I would take the older graphics of EQ (Which really aren't even that bad) than WoW's cartoonland graphics any day.

Ditto. I actually still enjoy the old EQ graphics. 1st person view works much better in that game, as well. All the newer games you end up watching the ground most of the time.

vet rewards are nice, ive had my account since 2004
I will have to say i will be coming back. I was never really hardcore in EQ but i did commit alot of time into the game. Yes i know how to level but i never experianced Plane of Air at all. I did do hate and fear but never did Air. I would say it would be nice if they were going to make NEW ADVENTURES for classic EQ but to sum that wouldnt be classic.
My problem with EQ TLP server is i know eventually i will stop playing it because EQ leveling mechanics. EQ is still not solo friendly to all classes which is a redeeming feature but it also creates to much of one class as alot of people play casual and wont find a group for hours. Especially when the server launches as at least 500 people will log onto the server that first week at any given time and every known camp will be camped. XP is going to be harsh for the few who dont have friends and the uber raid guilds who will just storm onto the server and claim all the camps from the start also. Yes it will be time locked but the Uber Raid guilds will just claim every High End camp over the entire TL Period.
I guess yes I'm QQ because I'm not a hardcore raider nor hardcore player because now i have to be a casual player since im not 16 anymore. But EQ as i remember will be tough for the casual gamer. Hopefully i am wrong and this server flourishes.

That's not true with today's EQ. All classes can solo with access to mercenaries. Of course you won't have that with TLP server initially since mercenaries went into the game with Seeds of Destruction expansion (15th expansion). But part of the fun for people going back to TLP is to get that newbie rush feeling again, seeing everybody around your level running all over the place, having groups everywhere and anywhere. So you won't need mercs for quite awhile.
There were good & bads of the old days. You're right, some classes will shine early due to how the game was designed early on. But do remember a lot of the classes have been re-balanced since the old days, and those re-balance will stay in the game. There are also things that everybody benefit from, things such as out of combat regen which is a design that would go in with TLP. So no, you will not have to stare at the spellbook anymore, and you won't have to wait an hour just to regen your mana.
So it won't be as harsh as the old days, which honestly I think would be good because like you said, we aren't 16 anymore.

Ugh tell me about it. Regening mana back in the day was horrible. I remember being thankful when i reached 35( i believe) with my cleric(main in 2000) and being so happy that i didnt have to use the book anymore. I was angry though because when i did finally reach 46 and like in the next few months they removed hell levels. i was like seriously lol. I dont want hell levels to return but they would be needed if its to be true classic. And i believe they werent removed till velious if im correct.
I am just at odds because EQ is probly the only MMO out right now that is Fun to me because I tried EQ2/WoW/AoC/ and many others to no prevail i always am sucked back into the original norrath. Hopefully EQ-Next can suck me into that world so I may retire this wonderful game once and for all because SoE has made it truelly hard to do so right now. Even without the TLP server id say by summer id be resubbing to level up my toons. Its called EverCrack for a reason and I relapse once a year for a few months all the time.
Nope not even intrested in progression server.Happy atm on bristlebane working my mains aa an alts up to level an their aa.Only have 13 toons their to work,Why would i spend more time on progression server that will drop population 3 or four months in hard?
Oh an some asked about old models you can turn those on any time you want.Tho as i recall for character models you dont see horses then tho for that model set.

Well, I returned to EQ about a year ago and I`m loving the game. I don`t think I`d be interested in the progression server because there is so much that I haven`t done in the newer zones (my main toon is just lvl 81). I have seen most of the old areas of the game anyways. I`m working on 8 toons right now and the progression server would take time from my main server anyways. I can see why the time locked progression server could be a blast, but I`ll just stick to playing on Nameless.
Yup, I'll come back for this. Played EQ 7 years, switched to EVE, currently doing the Rift Beta. I'll come back, re-roll my Monk, and also re-learn to pull.
One think I miss in most Fantasy MMOs is there is no puller.
Yeah I was interested in the TLP untill I saw the RIft beta. Rift gets the nod in March, but I may come back to the TLP when Kunark rolls out. Probably would have rerolled Iksar then anyway.
Graphics keep me interested in a game for a very short time. From hours to probably a month. If gameplay sucks graphics don't matter. I can enjoy a game with great gameplay but poor graphics for a very long time. But not the other way round.
I wished computer industries would stop to make progress on the graphics. Nowadays graphics are more than sufficient. That way developers might start to think more about the actual gameplay value their games provide. And not only about graphics... from 1998 till today MMO graphics advanced alot. During the same time gameplay did'nt improve much beside making things easier. One could even argue that gameplay suffered since then.
All depends on how close the new server actually will be to the original EQ feeling and about the time between expansions. If it will be a slow progression (at least 3 months per expansion) I might give it a try.
I just cannot see playing EQ1 again, even on progression. I admit, it's the graphics at this point.
I reinstalled EQ last year because one of my friends wanted to play again. I lasted all of 5 minutes once I saw the graphics.
So, while I really do miss playing the original EQ, I've become too much of a graphics whore it would seem.
Now if the graphics were at least EQ2 quality I would be there in a heartbeat. Sadly, it's not meant to be.
EQ Graphic to me are OK. Pre-Luclin models i would say you have an argument but with the current Luclin models the game looks just that OK. I would agree that graphics though make or break the opening impressions to me for a game but if i know the gameplay is solid i can over look them. EQ needs to update to newer models though.
I'll be playing it for sure! I went and bought a copy of Underfoot to upgrade my old GoD account and jumped in to get the feel of the controls again before March.
I can't wait. The hardest decision for me is which class to play.

I'm giong to bet you guys chose one of the classic original racial cities to login to? That's what turned you off perhaps? SOE had wanted to revamp the old racial cities but the playerbase revolted against it. They want the racial cities to remain the way they were from 1999 for nostalgia reasons. You can't blame players for being passionate about the game right?
So to get a feel of the real graphics of EQ today, you gotta visit newer expansion zones. The most updated new starting area is Crescent Reach. It was released in 2006 when The Serpent Spine launched. It came out when the new race Drakkins were introduced into the game. So simply judging between Crescent Reach and any of the old classic racial cities, you'll see the major improvements they've done to the graphics (2006 vs 1999). It really isn't bad at all. Crescent Reach > Blightfire Moor > Goru'kar Mesa are all updated zones from that expansion that were built to last for a new player from lvl 1-45. I suggest checking them out if graphics bother you.
Aside from that all newer expansions released in the past 4 years have had pretty good graphical upgrades done to them. I'm speaking mostly of the zone environment art, NPC models, weapons & shields, mounts, buildings, etc.. Of course the only thing that holds EQ back, and even the devs agree, is the Luclin character models. But apparently upgrading the models will take millions to do, so they've been unable to get SOE management to fork over the money for such project.
Anyways, I don't think the graphics are bad at all. Only thing that isn't up to par are the character models in my opinion. Heck even the player housing displays just how updated EQ is. Check out some of the designs people have done, they're really amazing. I built a whole kelethin out of the plots, and here are more.
Here's to hope SOE will one day, hopefully soon, upgrade the character models.
I want to, but cant. The game is just too old now. I had great fun back in the day but too go and play a game that looks that old. Playing EQ again would be like be dusting off my PS1 and playing MGS. Not gonna happen...

Probably not. It needs to be current. I have issues getting back into AO & DAoC also. Kinda wish they never made EQ2 and just redid EQ with eq2 graphics engine.
