the funniest thing about all this is the fact that what your complaining about is common knowledge passed on by even the fans of the game post from months ago said "Hey games not original at all but its polished so if you dont want anothr traditional theme park just move on" yet so many insist on beating this dead horse more. This is really that game if you dislike it move on because your complaints are just old news. "I dont like the animations" I cnat think of a game where they look much different to me swtor maybe? "Rifts get borings" ohh hell yes they do ....for some people unless you are grinding for planar goods then you suck it up. "there are too many mobs" ....walk around them its really easy (shakes head). "its too much of a grind" show me a theme park mmo thats not a grind. "its too much like WoW" well this is true but wow tends to take what other games have for themselves and that fine but atm all mmos in this genre are skills on a bar. Since no one is saying anything that wasnt pointed out months ago http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/301732/Rift-so-many-lazy-development-choices.htmlhttp://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/302577/Rift-feels-like-Warhammer-20.html
I'm level 33 in that 30/35 zone Scarwood Reach and I'm bored to tears.
The rifts are always the same, the dungeons are pretty boring and the questing is just like WoW. Kill X, Give item A to NPC B. I have done like 200 of those kill quests by now. Jesus.
I have to credit Rift that it was hella cool at around level 14. But at 25-35 it sucks because you've seen it 10000000 times in other MMO already. The zones also become less and less good.
I had this DVD of Disney next to my keyboard and popped it in for some background music, got so bored with Rift I started watching it instead.
Some of yall are going to say that I'm just bored with the genre. I don't think that's the case, I'm bored with the run-a-mill quest MMO that keep copying each other.
This is a good thing; it means the "ez-mode-questlne-storyline" hamster wheel is finally broken and players are beginning to demand more. This is a very good thing.
More people need to speak with the wallet. I know I am. In the last couple of years I stopped buying new MMO(so called RPGs). Not Warhammer, Not Aion, none of them. Last MMORPG I bought was Age of Conan. That cured me. I'll not be buying Rift either.
One thing I do like though. Is these opportunities game companies give us to beta(preview) their games. Saves me money, ^_^

I already did speak with my wallet and I pre-ordered the CE digital copy of Rift.
Last nite there was 100's of rifts and invasions going on in freemarch area. It was a blast to see the entire community join forces to stop the incoming rifts and invasions and kill all the leet bosses that spawned from them.
Only problem I had was some bosses took really long to kill, which can become a lil boring after pressing so many buttons for so long than moving on to the next rift/bosses for the same crap.
None the less it was a good time, and I hope this isn't just show for beta. I hope to see this kind of excitement when the game goes live.

They are stressing the servers, that is why theres so many rifts open and now you see alot of people in the world. I might be wrong but it makes alot of sense imo.
The fact that people are still buying into this game as a savior/new type of MMO boggles my mind. It is like every AAA-mmo of the past four years. There is nothing new to it, just a different covering. Rifts = PQs, triple talent tree = 1 talent tree but split into 3. Yes it is polished I will give it that but I quit during beta 3. If you've never played: eve, fallen earth, darkfall, vanguard, give those a try...and they have free trials.

I agree, but try telling that to a rift fan... it's kind of hard. I don't mind people getting the game, i don't have anything to do with that, but saying this game is very different from WoW like some guys told me... it's kind of ridiculous.

Freemarch is a starting area and in my original post I credited Rift for having a fun game at around level 14. Because there's many Rifts to kill and so many people in the same zone. But once you've done a few rifts you'll notice that they are the same fight each time.
In the next zone less people will be together and in the next one even less, Rifts become group events and eventually solo events. The fun you had at lower levels rapidly changes into boredom.
I had fun doing rifts up to around level 22, from 22 to 33 I couldn't stand them anymore.

Yeah I feel the same way, I tried to like it, tested all callings, but it just feels boring. I'm sure others will enjoy it but I am done with that kind of mmo. Lets hope GW2 and TOR brings a more fun experience.

Agreed. Some person called me an idiot for saying the graphic style is like Warhammer. And another person argued that the UI is different. If this game is for you, great, but it is nothing new or inventive. I was quite estatic for it until I got into beta and then I realized...its the same damn MMO like every other one...If you just want a different story/class then sure go for it but the general underlying mechanic is still the same.
First of all, OP, they officially stated that in beta, rifts actually are and will spawn on pre-defined locations. I can find an official statement if you want me to.
Second - I see many people saying they canceled their pre-orders... Seriously... why would you ever pre-order a game? Are you so much susceptible to marketing and adverts? Sigh... how old are you?
In my opinion, pre-ordering games kills the industry and makes devs lazy.
The only game I'm going to pre-order is Guild Wars 2 and that's because of my long-term relationship with Guild Wars, not because of some stupid advertising or promises.

It is like this with all mmos. TOR will be the same thing... OMG story story and more story and freaking dialogue.. at first it was enjoyable now it is SOOO boring and an inconvenience...
Yea I plan on playing both gw2 and TOR but they are NOT out right now, so Rift is a promising game to hold me over , people gotta realize that they will never be able to literally live in there MMO , it will always be on the computer screen and eventually they will get bored and dissatisfied with it.
Don't understand all these people trying to convince folks that are enjoying this game, that they shouldn't be enjoying it for whatever random reason (insert here). If people like it they like it, if they don't they don't move on.

Dude I have no sympathy what so ever! You are playing an EQ clone with the same gameplay style as all the other EQ/WOW style games that has been released for the last 10 years !!! How could you not be bored to tears by this repetitive level based shite?
With quests like kill X of Y and take X to Y then kill X of Z. Level up. Then do more of the same mindless stupid grinding nonsense.
I tried WOW when it was first released and after a week I suddenly stopped and said to myself I think I have played this game before. I had - every other MMO was the same. Different graphics of which RIFT has lovely ones but the same old shitty gameplay and snore combat system.
Why not try out some of the more innivative MMOs out there:
- Darkfall
- PlanetSide (PlanetSide 2 coming out soon)
- Xyson
- World War 2 Online
These are games where you are have to actually be able to use the mouse and aim to fight and there are no boring quests, no levels as such and the action is all player made.
There is no excuse for anyone complaining that they are bored by RIFT. Surely you would have to be mentally ill to be able to play what is basically the same game as the rest of the 10 year + old EQ clones?
you never played EQ did you?...come on its ok to answer we all know already!
This game is nowhere near EQ. for one this game has loads of quests, something that wasnt really seen in EQ, and the quests in EQ were a million miles away from these type.
The combat is also nothing close to EQs.
Love EQ ro hate EQ it doesnt matter...talk about something you know about.

hate to break bit to you but ALL MMORPG's are like this. There isnt a single MMO out or comming out that will not use this type of model for game design(Kill X number of Critter X, Kill Critter X numorous times untill Y Drops, Escort NPC A to NPC B, ETC). For a MMO to claim otherwise is false advertising.
"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

I wholeheartedly agree but I don't have a good solution for this. People just need to realise that this game design is not going anywhere anytime soon so if they can't stand it, well... too bad.

They need to realize that they don't like MMORPG's and move on to another genre. These games have been the same for decades. Abilities , Skills, Leveling up, Experience... this has been going on since the dawn of the RPG.

Ouch,. Someone is showing their ignorance of the MMORPG market. Go try a game like EVE (already out) or Xyson (coming out soon) and you'll see your statement is incorrect.
It is a mistake to think that just because a majority of developers currently favor a particular set of game mechanics when designing their games that this is all that MMORPG's ever were, still are or can be in the future.

Another one on the same page? Of course we love MMORPG's, we just dont' love the design choices currently favored in most modern MMORPG's. Not every MMO has been designed the same way when delivering concepts such as character progression or social interaction and it is a mistake to think that games cannot be designed differently than Rift or WOW.
Question is, will they ever be designed differently? I think so. Someday after enough multi-million dollar under performances some dev will build something truely different that is commercially successful and we'll break out of the current doledrums.

Personally , I find eve to be boring as hell, and a complete and utter snooze fest. if this is the kind of game people that are posting here are looking for as a model to follow, well thank god rift is not eve, that is pretty much all I have to say.

Personally , I find eve to be boring as hell, and a complete and utter snooze fest. if this is the kind of game people that are posting here are looking for as a model to follow, well thank god rift is not eve, that is pretty much all I have to say.
i have to agree .. at times Eve can be an utter borefest . i do believe Eve tailors to a certain group of players .
if any game has upwards 50k members on at a given time , it must have some sort of something that people enjoy
As a whole its great model to follow . Drawing people in for hours and hours
what annnoyed me about my first RIFT beta experience was the automatic problem with amd / ati
so i didnt get to check it out in its full graphic potential it had to get dumbed down .
what i saw looked cool but there was nothing new .. go kill a few things outside your start point , come back , look at some
pretty things and that was it , already bored .
i dont think these mmos are gauged for adults . ive read this elsewheres . thats why eve sort of
favors an older crowd . my 2 cents . never been a WoW fan and really this fits in the same catagory of such games i think
I am pretty late to the debate here, but I also was pretty bored by level 5 or so...
It was clear what this game was.
On the plus side:
Lots of fun early choices, can see how mixing up different classes is an inteersting mechanic.
On the minus:
There was no sense of awe in the first two hours.
i want to feel amazed! A new world to explore - what awaits? This felt very rehearsed.
Another weird thing for me is moodwise it felt very like chaos in warhammer.. which would have been fine except I shudder at the time I invested in that failed game.
Seems a no-buy to me. Lots of decent single player and multiplayer fare to enjoy until GW2 etc, and I am so burned out on this formula - whcih Rift has replicated perfectly - has been done to death.

Only level 5 after 2 hours? Wtf were you doing? You should have been at least 10 and experiencing the "Real" part of the game, and not the tutorial (LVL 1-9) part of the game. I despise people like you, get to AT LEAST lvl 20 in a game before you judge it.

I was bored of it after the first 8 hours....at least there is some decent single player games coming out this year.
the funniest thing about all this is the fact that what your complaining about is common knowledge passed on by even the fans of the game post from months ago said "Hey games not original at all but its polished so if you dont want anothr traditional theme park just move on" yet so many insist on beating this dead horse more. Since no one is saying anything that wasnt pointed out months ago http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/301732/Rift-so-many-lazy-development-choices.html http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/302577/Rift-feels-like-Warhammer-20.html

"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
When gw2 and TOR come out, people are gonna be saying the same thing. Yay Dynamic Events.. but then like a week into beta people will be talking about how they are tired of doing them, it is the same shit over and over.. then they are now bored with the game.
I happen to like this game, and you will not convince me other wise.

you never played EQ did you?...come on its ok to answer we all know already!
People just need to realise that this game design is not going anywhere anytime soon so if they can't stand it, well... too bad.
edit: typo.
They need to realize that they don't like MMORPG's and move on to another genre. These games have been the same for decades. Abilities , Skills, Leveling up, Experience... this has been going on since the dawn of the RPG.

LOL, we're looking for interesting debate and fun conversation, and maybe, just maybe convince people who are like minded in their thinking from playing a game that they will not enjoy.

thats a shame, enjoy playing another game, I trust we wont see you on the rift forum anymore
Hes able to like the game just as much as you are able to dislike it, why is that a bad thing?
