Hmm let see. To me replayabilty in Rift was terribly, SW to me I enjoy it. Rift, I never felt connected to my char, SW I completely do. Rift small closed off world, SW not at all, it s large. I enjoy the space combat, and look forward to what they plan to add, Rift nothing like that. Rifts themselves drove me nuts and became stale in a week. Both of their BG s I ll say are equal, Rift has next to none in end game pvp, SW has alot more then people are saying, and improvements to it on Tues.
Rift classes bored the hell out of me, SW they all are fun to me to play. No imagination in Rift, every event is literally the same thing. Get some dailies, collect tears etc, from doing rifts that I couldn t stand doing anymore. To me Rift just felt boring and pointless in a short time. SW I m enjoying alot, and I can see the improvements and content additions will keep me busy for a long time, and co exist with GW2 when it comes out.
all the classes are fun in TOR yet none in Rift... wow... considering they both use the exact same trinity system yet rift went a step further by adding a support role and allowing you to come up with TONS of combinations of talent builds(yes there were cookie cutters but you could still come up with TONS of viable alternates)... not to mention they didn't pigeon hole you into a single role and not let you get out of it without going back to a trainer and dropping all your points for a respec....nevermind ill just forget everything I read from you and move on
Lol, it s not trinity systme, it s how they feel, In Rift my warrior, was boring, in Sw I love my sith warrior. Now thats how I feel, could care less about how anyone else feels about it, but since you asked I answered to how I feel.
LOL its not the trinity system? please explain that one.. please do
[mod edit[ It s how the classes play to me, not you, not anyone but me. I found Rifts classes to be BORING, not their roles, in SW I find them fun not their roles. So to sum it up , it s not the roles I like in SW or hate in RIFT, it s the fun factor of said classes. Pretty simple isn t it.

Yeah I would agree that the classes I'm playing in ToR are fun . Jedi Consular and Bounty hunter but I equally enjoy my mage and rouge in Rift . I like ToR for the story and relationships you build up with your companion and the moral choices you have to make . I like Rift for the customability of its classes theres infinate numbers of ways you can mix and match the three souls .
Oh and I loved playing a Druid .a hunter .a warlock and a preist in WoW for years too . I just wish they hadn't robbed players of the ability to customise the classes in the way they used to .
I reallly enjoyed my tempest of set too in AoC and still enjoy my lore master in lotro on occasion .
All mmos have something to offer . Not really ever played a truely awful one . I can understand why some dont have mass appeal though .
You are daft aren t you. It s how the classes play to me, not you, not anyone but me. I found Rifts classes to be BORING, not their roles, in SW I find them fun not their roles. i misread last post and edited it.. but no its not simple.. swtor uses the same exact mechanics used by every other themepark used in the last decade.. my issue is the whole reason I find it hard to continue to play is how boring the classes and talent trees are but you say they are so amazing and so much better than rifts and I can't see a single way they are. Obviously people differ in opinions but no one can every give any video footage or good examples of what makes this games classes and talents so great or even fun for that matter

It s just the feel is all. I hated my warrior in Rift, in SWTOR my warrior just feels warrior like. I can t explain it, except, it s the feel more then their role or talent trees. They re just fun, not so much in Rift, to me.

funny because I get the complete opposite feeling from swtor and feel the classes don't feel right at all and combat is horribly slow and unresponsive.. Also the animations for melee only work well if you are standing still trading blows which is insanely boring to me.
I rarely use this website unless I want to guage what a new games like before buying it . To look at some of the comments here you would think StarWars the Old Republic is a terrible game . So I went searching the web to see if I could find a review thats negative about it . So far every one I've come across sings its praises.
So I would like to challege someone to find a negative review (as long as its from a reasonably legitimate source ie a relativly well known gaming website ,newpaper or magazine website . Not someones blog review or a gaming site that invites people to submit thier own reviews .
I'm sure there must be a few out there but all in all the reviews I've seen are overwealmingly possative .
"Star Wars The Old Republic is the next highly anticipated Star Wars MMO. It’s rumored to have the highest budget of any video game ever made. Being a fan of Star Wars Galaxies I eagerly awaited the release of the next Star Wars MMO. Countless millions of dollars and hundreds of developers pain stakingly tried to create a World of Warcraft clone with voice actors and cut scenes and because of this SWTOR fails miserably. """
amd conclusion
Conclusion: 2/10
Encase you skipped reading all of the above and went straight to the conclusion SWTOR is a bland, grindy, WoW clone with nothing to appeal to sandbox gamers at all. This is not the sequel to StarWars Galaxies. Almost everything in this game has been done before and the tiny bit of new features are more of a nuisance than fun. It looks like it will go free to play within a year. They already have an item shop ready in the client files for when this happens. Sandboxer.org readers will want to pass on this game.
It sounds to me like this guy loved star wars galaxies a lot so I'm not sure you know the definition of unbiased
It is a negative review I ll give you that but scores of 1/10 really suggest hes a disgruntled Galaxies fan .
Comes close but no cigar I'm afraid . This looks more like fan reaction .
Who cares if I can't find a bad review? I don't personally like it and that is all I need to know. A few highlights of my issues:
I thought crafting was going to be interesting and it is a huge letdown if you didn't take biochem. Maybe they will improve on this.
End Game PvE content is full of bugs, randomly dying in a raid when getting off a speeder? Fun.
The game is horribly optimized. My PC runs any other game fine and chokes on SWTOR. The game doesn't even look that great to me.
Just the above is enough for me to cancel. It will probably be enjoyable for a Themepark MMO in a 3 months to 6 months. Right now I don't find it fun and I don't often give games a second chance. Plus D3 will be out by then...
It is a negative review I ll give you that but scores of 1/10 really suggest hes a disgruntled Galaxies fan .
and what do 10/10 and 9/10 scores suggest when half the content of the reviews are not even positive?
Please elaborate . This post doesn't make an awful lot os sence to me
Read my comments I've already said I think some reviews over praise .
but a score of 1/10 quite is clearly biased any fool can see that especially when the guy reviewing it admits he was galaxies fan and keeps likening TOR to galaxies
I would say a score of ten out of ten is just as biased too for ToR
Gamepro did a video review of it and bashed it to hell. Here's a link to the video. gave it like a 2 out of 10 lol. just answering your question. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVieZI5296I

Only 15hrs playtime = Not a valid review. They wont have even got off the starter planets if they played all the content
At the same time, editors are playing for 20 hours and declaring it Best MMO ever. No problem with that huh?
Game came out not even 15 days and Massively voted it Best MMO of 2011? That's peachy too, right?

This game is exactly what I expected it to be, exactly what I felt they were selling to me in the pre-launch hype. Just because someone has expectations for any given MMO that the devs never once promised doesn't give a justified reason to rag on the game.
To me, this game feels:
exactly like a MMO
like Star Wars
like Bioware made it
I mean come on people. I think too many of you are watching the GW2 hype videos and apply it to TOR.
If you guys are so sick of MMOs then either:
A) stop playing them
or
fkn support the developers who fubar it when trying to innovate
Voting with your wallet by saving yourself money isn't enough to constitute a vote. You need to vote both ways and until you 'haters' do then you're going to get the same old EQ-clone until you're blue in the face.
We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

Like any other game there are good and bad reviews out there. May not be so many bad critical reviews but there are some bizarre ones (like the guy from the Guardian in the UK who gave it 80 after 2 days play and seemed to think there was pod racing for credits in the game (I think he may have been reviewing KOTOR2....shhh don't tell anyone!).
Plenty of bad user reviews at Metacritic, although whether many of them are from people who have actually played the game is open for debate.
To be honest, reviews don't tell anyone much beyond whether the person reviewing it liked it or not. The better ones will give pros and cons and evaluate all the game systems as part of the review, so at least you know that they played it, and they can give you a basic overview of pve, pvp, crafting etc..
I never trust them though, and I don't really think they mean much. This from someone who is still playing and still very much enjoying SWTOR. I don't care what anyone else thinks to be honest. Myself and my guildies are having fun and that's all that matters to me.
You won't need bad reviews in 6 months when servers will merge one after the other because the game gets abandon because it's just another ''of the same'' MMO wich people are bored of but can't realize it cause they need adiction to survive their empty lives.

Gampro has been around prolly longer then u have been alive and they are one of the most legit reviewers out there, 15 hours is plenty of time for a mmo if it is getting boring by then that means it couldn't even make it as a good single player rpg cause those are aways more then 15 hours long. I grew up buying Gamepro magazines (yes, I was a nerd from childbirth). They were completely unforgiving in some of their reviews. Hilarious, I say!
Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.

Keep in mind if you believe reviews are bought and paid for... so are some of the anti reviews. The gamepro review was comical at best.

LMAO it was nothing basically but just praising wow for god sakes. Well for one i play SWTOR and i like it, im not gonna force the drop everything and play SWTOR because it rocks. Not gonna do it but what i will say is "in my opinion i like and love it and having fun playing it." And all im gonna say is dont have other people dictate your decisions for you im sure you can make your own decision and basically just try the game out for yourself and see, if you like it play and have fun and if you dont dont play it and move on. Easy as that.

None of those reviews are worth the internet page they written on due to the fact that they get PAID by EA/Bioware to review thier game.
You want an honest opinion of the game- go to meta critic as that is he ONLY true review as its done by the people and not a person sitting at a desk getting paid by EA/Bioware to "spin" a good review for them.

Not much came out in 2011 MMO wise.
Thank you for proving that you are, in fact, supporting the double standard.
I do think that 25 hours or more is needed to review a MMO. That is a lot of a persons working week though and can you expect every new MMO to get that time allocated to it? Maybe just for major releases, but then small budget games would have an advantage as it is easy to look good upto level 10.
SWtOR is a solid game with some areas that need brushing up. For those of you who think those areas are that important you will see no changes soon. It does take more than 'a little code' to implement new areas of a MMO. Any big changes will take at least six months and for our transiant MMO players that is way too long I know. You will all by in SW by then, complaining that MMO has areas that need brushing up, and so on, for the rest of your gaming life.

If you don't like a game don't play it, and quit running to MMORPG.com to trash it.
Aion has good reviews
LOTRO has very good reviews
Rift has very good reviews
WoW has very good reviews
Even AoC has good reviews.
Stop being a fanboy!
I grew up buying Gamepro magazines (yes, I was a nerd from childbirth). They were completely unforgiving in some of their reviews. Hilarious, I say!
Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.
Not much came out in 2011 MMO wise.
Did he actually think that review was unbiased? I got the troll face image soon as I read the link.
Gamepro is bought and paid for by another company.
