Remeber animation timer is there for balance... whitout it we must all play this game like an FPS.. or it would not be balanced.. If we want diffrent classes we have to have it. Its there for a reason..

No, it's there to not have to balance abilities. It doesn't have to be there other than they didn't separate animation on top half and bottom half of characters. It's a cheap way of going about balance.

But if I can by using my skills avoid your abilities? how would we balance ablilites? when you have an X-variable that we cant account for.. We dont know how many times I will get out of the way.. there is no way of Knowing this. It will depend on many factors, Personal skill, the terain we are fighting....etc

You can only balance abilities if you know that they will hit. Why do you think we have no ablilites in an FPS game??? that we activate..

As I said only other option is to make everyone have the same skills.... just like in an FPS game.. Or bring back TAB TARGET..

If I come at you with my big AX and it takes me 3 seconds to compleat the swing.. that gives you 3 seconds to get out of the way this we can balance and tweak.. make it longer or shorter but the timer can be balanced...

If your attack takes less then a second you have no chans of getting out of the way. If I aim on you in an FPS this is how it works its very fast.

What you want is the FPS version, no attack animation, all attacks take less then a second to perform. Then we have movment and closing ablilites. and you can cast everything while moving? that is what you want right?

So I have my bow I see you I aim I shoot I HIT... You strife right... I strife left still spamming my bow.. you avoid some of the attacks but get hit with about 1/3 of them. You swing around and use your closer (lets say leap). I see you flying towards me and hit my dodge.. rolling forward... I land swing around and keep spaming my bow.. You land turn around see that I still have 10m on you  and I'm moving away from you shooting.. You understand that you have now lost half you HP and you cant win this even if you manage to close on me again, I would probably use a POWER attack to finish you off.. you start running the other way.. I follow spaming my bow, and cut you down as you flee.

You attack me, you hit me and take about 1/3 of my hits.. I leap out of the way(if I have an ablilite that can do this). You jump after and land about 2m away from me... I start running while shooting my bow at you. You follow, but your closer is on coldown, You lose about 1/3 of your life untill the cooldown comes down. You jump, I dodge and we are back to example number one.....

If I cant get out of the way (use an ablilite like dodge or leap)  Im dead as soon as you catch me. If you attack me first I will be deat 100% of the time.

We solve all problems with the animation timer.. Why whine about it...

    Animation timer version

So I have my bow I see you I aim I ahoot I Hit.. You strife right .. I strife left not shooting my bow( as I cant do it on the move) I stop I shoot.. You strife out of the way (it takes me 4 seconds to do the attack animation). You Jump towards me with your closer. Bam you hit me with your melee attack. My cooldown comes down I dodge out of the way. I stop I aim I shoot.. (4 seconds) You close but get hit as you are not strifing. I run You run... Your closer is back, you jump.. I dodge.. But knowing you are close I have to make a choise, either I chans it and turn around and try to hit you or I try to make more distance betwen us. I decide to do a power attack in your face. I turn do my Power attack ( 6 seconds). Now you can either Parry it by stoping or closing the distance, but risk getting hit in the face. You chans it and charge me. You get hit losing half your HP, but you have closed the distance and start hacking on me. Sweeping me to the ground. You finish me off before I can get up..

Now we could have made diffrent choises, probably more then the once I listed but the Animation TIMERS, help balance the fight out..

If the stop animation deal was a bug or something Bluehole was neglecting in a deficient capacity:

THEY WOULD NOT HAVE WAYS IN THE GAME TO TAKE IT AWAY

Wow, there is seriously a lack of communication here. Multiple times people have posted that it's possible to remove various stop animations as you progress you character. Yet, time and time again posts pop up trying to make it seem like it's the product of lazy development.

For the first time, that I've seen anyway, in an MMO PvP seems to be balanced between classes if everyone knows what they are doing. Highest dps is a melee class but they move slow and "charge" some harder hitting abilities. Ranged still has powerful CC and damage but they have to stop to cast. A tank class has good dps but 1/2 of their survivability is based on evasion. There is no "I win" class, every advantage comes with a disadvantage.

I've never been more excited to play a PvP game.

Just not worth my time anymore.

They dont understand that everything is not on a timer either and that you can move while you attack.. But some one has told people they Get PERMA ROOTED as soon as they make an attack.. The fact that you can cancel attacks with Parry and dodge is also something people dont understand..

And that part of the game is speeding up your animations...

And that the Timers are there for a reason.. Its a balance thing, but it feels like you can talk yourself blue in the face and people still dont get it...

For example as a Beserkrs spin skill  you can start moving at Reduced speed as you charge it at higher levels.. But people play to level 11 and think Well thats it I always have to be rooted when I start an attack animation

I find it interesting that people are defending the locking and the ability to do anything while jumping when GW2, for example, has all the actiony combat of Tera in addition to being able to cast while moving or jumping. It feels like the defense lies in being fans of the game instead of acknowledging that perhaps they could tweak the system to make it better.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

Well, we can't give you any fair comparison between the two systems before we play them both now, can we?

What we do know is that Tera does not have GCD and tab targetting, while GW2 seem to have them both.

Still, the system that keeps my eyes rooted on the action wins, imo (as opposed to constantly keep an eye on the quickbar). Tera scores good in this regard. No idea about GW2, I'll let you know if I make it in the beta.

Actually there is no GCD in GW2. All the skills are based on animations, like Tera. But unlike TERA, most animations can be used on the move and the few abilities that lock your character in place can easily be cancelled by moving. Also here is MikeB's take on GW2's combat.

Well I'm off to continue playing TERA, but even I'm struggling to get my Level 8 Elin a$$ of this newbie island. It's so damn boring. Really do hope it improves once I'm off.

They've also enhanced it where there's a point in each animation that the next skill will trigger (as opposed to having to wait for the full animation) blending into the next skill. You're not confined to a full animation anymore. They stated they did this for all professions and love the results.

Maybe you guys would also like to stat the fact that the game is still lock on based. Instead of tab lock you click or auto lock.

  • TruthXHurtsTruthXHurts Member UncommonPosts: 1,555

You can lock on? I had no idea. Sure would save me some time on the easy stuff.
