I have many good memories from Tarren Mill, Southshote, Ashenvale and the like in the open world PvP in vanilla WoW. Yeah some times there were higher lvl opponents there, but it sure was fun when we got some of them down (usually by the help of some guard ). It made the world in general feel more dangerous and alive. If you were travelling through enemey territory you would really be careful and look around before you headed on. You would always be on guard. Its something im gonna miss in upcoming games im gonna play. But we all have our preferences.
How could YOU not want to play Hello Kitty Online Island Adventure?!
hehe.. nice one.
I think the main reason is that the end-game raiding is too hard-core. The only succesful raids are the ones lead and directed by 10 year old girls.. And they are very selective when recruiting.
It's some hard-core stuff, man. But if you get in, man oh man.. The loots are crazy! CatNip of Doom (initiates a berserker rage), Rainbow Pony Paws (increased run-speed), etc. The list goes on and on. But only a fraction of the population ever gets to see items like that. *sigh* .. If only I was hard-core enough...
Because the first game was probably the worst online game i have ever played. What a joke of a game that was. I remember playing it in 05 when it came out for about a couple of weeks. got to 20 and then there was nothing to do. I will try this one though. It's b2p so i don't mind it. Problem is i already invest time on Street Fighter and 2 MMOs. I don't know if i will have the time to play this one.

You just try telling the police you are creating the online persona of a 10 year old girl to get in on some cool Hello Kitty raiding, they are not very understanding, let me tell you.

All of the above explain why i will not play GW2, i bought into the hype of GW1 and was overly dissapointed, great game for kids though as i remember 90% of the community being under the age of 18, and the no monthly makes it even better for parents. But GW2 isnt my type of MMO, really not what i look for im more of a sandbox gamer. But have fun with it.
Normally I wouldn't reply to something like this, but I really got a kick out of how he managed to nail every single one of the reasons I listed, including both "It's too much like WoW," and "It's too different from WoW."
1) "I assumed it'll be like GW1." 2) "It's too different from WoW." 3) "I don't actually know anything about the game." 4) "It's too much like WoW." 5) I'll put this one down as "I don't have time for it," because I can't really think of any other reason being an adult would prohibit you from playing a game other than some weird elitist attitude combined with the bizarre delusion that only kids play games.
He even mentions that he is looking for a sandbox game in his paragraph, invalidating all of his other reasons.

I was asked a long time ago this very same question. Only instead of GW2 it was replaced with "WoW". I simply replied the game isn't for me because I played MMOs before WoW came out. When playing an MMO meant something, and you actually "felt" like you achieved something. Then WoW came out, and muddied up the MMO genre.
Similarly, the answer to your question is that I simply don't know enough about GW2 to "want" to do anything with it. When an Open Beta, or if I get into Closed Beta, comes about I'll know from hands of experience if I "want" to do anything with it. Until that time I won't allow mere speculation, Hype, or overzealous consumers decide my own opinion of GW2 for me. Unless of course a user on here that I know has similar views of the game posts something constructive about how poor GW2 is. Then, I'd at least have some frame of reference before trying GW2.
Again, how can you "want" to do anything with a product without having tried it first? Developers, even kind ones, lie all the time in order to keep their jobs so their Publisher makes a buck in the end. Even developers are people, and people are flawed human beings.

Good luck with trying to find someone here that you know AND has something constructive to say about how poor GW2 is let alone just any random user who has something constructive to say about how poor the game is . Ofc, as you full well understand, here we are talking about people who have hands-on experience (and that's ofc GAMERS and PRESS alike). Others done count hehe .
Then again, that may be an ignorant move on your part as it means you completely ignore hundreds and hundres of others who had a hands-on experience and find the game great and instead focus on one odd person who had bad experience with the game :P.
Or...you can just wait it out until many experience the closed beta and give their general impression of the game.
Last but not least, I just hope you get a chance to play it and experience the game for yourself so that you can correctly judge it and make up your mind if it is the game for you.
easy, only 10 skills + high cooldowns = boring classes
So you're going to avoid the game because you have no idea what you're talking about? Hmm... ok...
Just as an FYI, between weapon swapping in combat, chained skills and a bunch of other mechanics you have significantly more skills than that... some 30 - 40 or so depending on the profession.
no you don't
you have 20 maximum for non engineer and elementalist and engineer doesn't have utlities if he wants to have more skills.
Also GW2 fans stop trying to shove the game into other people's mouths. If they don't like it, they don't like it. Sometimes they have uneducated opinions, other times their reasons are very valid.
Possible no buy points for most people who won't buy it would be:
No gear progression - very valid
Lack of trinity - very valid (some people don't need innovation the holy trinity works fine in reality)
No raids - valid
No TDM (?) - semi valid
Not that many skills (?) - semi valid
lack of difficulty (?) - We can't know yet, but very valid if true
I will 100% buy the game, but for me a couple of those points are true: No TDM ( I just don't see conquest as a good gamemode), lack of difficulty (if true), no gear progression (only if no very hard difficulty dungeons).
That's exactly it, GW2 offers one less option, but people should ask themselves if wanting it included doesn't say something about their personality. When I played on a PVP server in WoW, I never heard of epic battles happening between like-levels out in the open world, I heard "Lulz, I just one shotted this dude mining copper". I don't want gankers in my game. If you don't like that GW2 doesn't offer you the chance to be a giant dickface, play something else, you won't be missed.
This is funny,
When I first started WoW at release in 2004 - I was on a PvP server.
WoW was my first level based MMO really. Before WoW I had played SWG and UO so I was used to some very different mechanics.
I remember a big battle in the Barrens, everyone was like level 10-11 to mid 20's and there were at least 30-40 people on each side. Alliance had come across the boat through Ratchet or whatever.
Remember this was my FIRST toon in WoW, Orc Warrior, and first toon ever created in a level based EQ style game.
I remember getting absolutely face rolled by a guy on the Alliance side that was at least 10 or 11 levels above me. I remember I couldn't even hit him and I think he two shot me.
Afterwards, I asked a guildy what was up with that, and they said "Yeah dude he's like 10 levels higher of course you didn't have a chance!"
Not too long after that, quit that toon and started playing on a PvE server.
AND NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!! REPRESSED FEELING MEANS GANKERS = CAREBEARS.

I'm sorry man, I have no idea where you got the maximum 20 idea. Chained skills add one or two, swapping adds five, downed state adds four, enviromentall weapons add 1-5, elite forms add around 4, F1-F4 add anywhere from 1 to 4 skills, utilities add five, and other skills add more. Further, Elemenatlists and Engineers do have utilities.

ACTUAL SKILLS YOU USE
10(+2 chain) from weapons 1 heal 3 utility 1 elite 1 class mechanic = 16 (18)
Mesmer only one who has 4 skills for special class mehcanic +3 19 (21)
Elementalist attunements +9 = 25 skills
Downed .... you srsly gonna count that?
Enviromental weapons....
an Engineer doesn't have "utlilites" if he uses all his utilities for more weapons
an Elemental I never said had no utilities they just have the most skills.

Interesting, I think our difference is that we don't count different states and pets as a variety in skills. I.E. One of the necromancers elite forms, guardians tomes, ranger pets, etc...
So I'll say that you do seem informed and we just have a difference in what we consider to be relevant and consistent in-combat skills. I was just making sure you had the information beforehand, not liking a game is perfectly acceptable, I just want people to know everything about it beforehand.
I don't really see a strong reason not to play it as long as you can afford the box price. I mean, you are going to get your money's worth atleast...that is for sure. Most MMOs are worth trying out for the first month atleast since the box price will net you a ton more play time then pretty much any other game out there outside the genre and this one lets you keep coming back if you are initially dissapointed. It is pretty much a win-win for everyone involved.
I think the best reason to not play GW2 is that you are broke or you are just sick of games in general.
List of reasons someone might not want to play Guild Wars 2:
Not much in terms of max level character progression.
No world PVP.
No raids.
Tired of instancing.
Most of the content will likely not be very diffcult (I wouldn't expect dynamic events which by definition are meant to be done by PUGs forming out of thin air to pose any challenge).
Lack of sandbox features.
Fast leveling.
Tired of fantasy.
Know better than to fall for the hype.
Please. Do yourself a favor and play GW1[free trial is enough] to see how ArenaNet philosophy works
Actually, to me, this is potentially bad advice. I *hated* GW1. I am excited for GW2, but the first one is nothing, I mean *nothing* like the namesake sequel aside from like the name of the world.

Oh yeah, I'd have to agree, don't play GW1 in the hopes of really understanding what type of game GW2 is supposed to be.
I enjoyed GW1 for about 3 months and moved on, not enough of a MMORPG and have pretty high hopes round 2 will be signifantly more to my liking.

I agree with this as well. From everything I have seen this game is going to play differently in several areas compared to GW1. Which is a good thing because frankly GW was very underwhelming.
About the only reason to play GW really would be to get an understanding of the lore if you wanted to. That's about it far as I'm concerned.
Not that I think it is worth it for that but there are those that highly enjoyed it. To me it was your pretty standard fantasy story line.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Ppl QQ that firms promise "revolutionary games" and they don't deliver.....but when 1 actually delivers it in an epic way, ppl don't want to accept it....tough luck for them.
Woah, woah, woah.
I'm just as excited about GW2 as you seem to be, but lets face facts here. The game has not released yet. ArenaNet has delivered on exactly 0% of their promises at this point in time.
Sure, the game looks really great in beta, everything that ArenaNet has been saying about their game seems to be there, which is why I'm really excited for it. But I also know that something could go horribly wrong before release.
I mean what if they can't get WvW working correctly and have to scale it down, like only having WvW instead of WvWvW because the amount of people crashes the server. I'm not saying this will happen, but it isn't completely crazy either.
If you say that won't happen I have 1 example of it already happening. Scouts and renown hearts.
Originally ArenaNet came out to say they were really excited to not have quests and you were going to be left up to your own devices to find the dynamic events. Then a few months later we find out they added traditional-ish quests and NPCs to talk to because some twats who apparently have never played actual RPG games before test the game out and run by all of the screaming villagers and houses on fire because they don't have a quest to help those people.
Now personally, I liked the way it was before. I like the feel of having a completely open environment to just explore. Don't get me wrong, I understand exactly why ArenaNet had to do what they did, and I also understand I don't have to use the scouts or complete the renown heart quests but they are there, and that bothers me.
Edit: I'm also quite leery about the Mesmer in it's current state. Mesmer was my favorite class from GW1, but in GW2 it seems really boring. I mean, I don't see the need for 2-3 different skills in every weapon set that uses clones. It almost feels like ArenaNet gave up and just said, "I'm tired of thinking of skills, just make everything clones!"
I agree, but the quest thing is a bit different. U have to consider some facts like...Anet stated several times that they made the game by listening to the players. If a big part of gamers wanted some traditional quests, then well..they deliver it. The more audience they capture the more money they make....and they are kinda forced to "deliver on the first run" because this game is not monthly payed...u pay them once and that's that (except expantions). So..yea..they kinda need to satisfy a vast majority of needs to actually cover the costs of the game.
As for now, the game is in beta stage...everything is as close to finished as possible.... (core systems). What u see now is 90% in the final game..the other 10% being tweeks + i am sure they will keep the game up to date as they did with GW1.
Look at some beta footage....see if u like what u see. Maybe u even get lucky and get a betakey and test it yourself. As for me, with the experience i have + the ton of beta footages i've seen, i love every bit of it. I am sure i will love the final product.
As for Mesmer..i can't say anything related to it because i never was the mesmer type of player as gamestyle.
I am going to play it. But, to be honest, I just saw parts of the Mesmer video recently released. The game looks too much like GW1...which is a turn off for me. Don't get me wrong, I liked GW1 for what it was, but the feeling of playing the same game again is not something I am looking forward to.

What video have you been watching?(serious question) Cuz to me, guild wars 2 doesn't look anything like guild wars 1, except for the shared classes and lore.
I think that most people that seem to have a problem with the game have a problem with PvP. If killing an other person with friends and watching the rage/get killed again/quit entirely is what you want I dont think MMOs are the right place for you. Maybe CoD or Battlefield is a more approriate game or idk. It's an RPG in the end whether it's online or not. PvP isn't the MAIN focus.
(Pointed to those people who criticize GW2 because of it's PvP)

Honestly, I've never seen people who've played GW2 compare the gameplay to that of the original. The Mesmer is a terrible example too, since the Mesmer can do a ton of things in GW2 that they couldn't in GW1.
All these GW1 posts will probably be swept under a rug once people play the sequel.
That's a short list. My list goes something like this.
1. Level scaling. Have never experienced it in an mmo. Have never been able to play with my friends consistantly due to differing schedules, therefore they always outlevel me. this is my biggest YAY.
2. 3 faction pvp. Not one sided like SWTOR.
3. No gear treadmill. Halle-fuckin-leuah.
4. No hoomungous skillbars. one skillbar. important skills.
5. Dynamic content. No more running for the '!' Enjoy the world and come across things to do as you do so.
6. Explorable content. The jumping puzzle stuff looks fantastic. Something OTHER to do than the standard 'fightfightfightfight"
7. B2P. Buy to Play. NEver seen this.
and that's my list of things im most interested in in GW2.
No, i havent been playing mmo's since their conception, so EVERYTHING about GW2 could have been done before, yada yada. It's new to me, and i'd garner i've played abit more mmo's than MOST people, as i'm a stay at home dad and well. Stay at home. lol. So if it's new to me, chances are it's new to many many others.

Well, does the game allow me to own a shop? What about gathering resources to make potions to sell at my shop? Can a group of players get together and build a town and then have to defend the town? What about mounts, does the game have mounts? Is there swimming? Can we explore an underwater cave and find a treasure? How about own a ship - a boat? Can we go fishing?
So what exactly do you do at end game in GW2 - can someone tell me?

Most MMOs are worth trying out for the first month atleast since the box price will net you a ton more play time then pretty much any other game out there outside the genre and this one lets you keep coming back if you are initially dissapointed. It is pretty much a win-win for everyone involved.
I think the best reason to not play GW2 is that you are broke or you are just sick of games in general.

So can someone send me a list of features in this game that would indicate this game is anything more than another themepark with a different flavor.
Change my mind - to me it is nothing more than another dead end shallow themepark game.
I hope your just having a bad day Teala. SEriously. I'm usually on your side of the opinion street, but cmon now. -10 cool points in my book
let's start with the linky
The Deep Web is sca-ry.
