GW2 only looks outdated when compared to single player games. In the MMO genre it's well above average which im fine with, as long as it runs well in large scale PvP.
I agree, the graphics so far in GW2 are above average at best, the gameplay will be it's shine. The games you use to compare look truly amazing. I'm not a fan of flashy spells and huge weapons but that asian programming is like magic when it comes to graphics and that smooth combat animation.

QFT!
I just had a HUGE facepalm moment.. I realized that somehow I never knew what QFT meant >.< I look back and things make a lot more sense now that I do =D and /agree however I will say that it doesn't compete with the asian MMOs in graphics but I am totally ok with that. It is wonderful to look at regardless and who knows.. that may be incorrect once we see the game with full graphic options enabled and it fully optimized.
Those people comparing GW2 to WoW in terms of graphics as a justification of GW2's not being outdated make me laugh. WoW is a 7 year old game, and they do not change the engine on each expansion, only little tweaks here and there. That's like comparing the graphics in Half Life 2 with it's predecessor Half Life, which were about 6 years apart from release.
GW2 does not have the best graphical engine out there, there's no arguing about that. However, does the style and art make up for the low technical graphics? That's subjective, and for the fans here it probably does.
Unfortunately theres no 1080 of the vid. Also theres a couple of settings that doesnt work yet, like "Depth of field" and "High res character textures."
The game looks fine, and I'd hardly call the graphics outdated, especially since GW2 has its own visual style which their art team has put a lot of effort into. What exactly are you comparing GW2 to, though? If we are sticking within the MMO Genre, let us compare it with, say ArcheAge... With Guild Wars 2 for Comparison... I chose two similar pictures for a reason, because at a glance they both look to be from the same game, yet their style are very different. It it all depends on which appeals you more. But from a practical stand point, MMO's use lower graphics in general, so as to make their product more available by letting lower end machines run it. I am sure there will be plenty of Video options for those that have a computer capable of proccessing them.
I think the AA looks better in those pics, but I have seen others where I would go the other way. I think the graphics on GW2 look fine.
As far as i can tell. That GW 2 photo seems photoshoped. Gameplay vids show the direct opposite. They world lacks in crisp detail but is more like brushed to hide the fact GW2 is very detailless. It can be that the personal story instance uses higher textues though, because the outside world looks pretty flat.
Lol, so that's your conclusion? Its photoshoped??? I think anyone who wants to try and change this guy's mind should forget about it...
Its not photoshopped but I know what he means, the background city looks glued on to the foreground in that particular picture.
Look good enough to me, and not only because of the graphic per say, but the overall design, the costume, the customization, the artistic touch, and more. For example, yes Blade & Soul graphic are bit more stunning, but i would choose GW2 any time, especially because the naked boobs, well its just too much and not very tasteful in B&S. Archeage have stunning graphic, no comment here, they really are nice, but overall it just look like a very nice lineage2, it doesn't seam to have his own personality graphic wise. So all in all GW2 are on top and its pretty hard to say which one would win, probably GW2 or Archage, so nothing to complain about overall.
The Graphics in GW2 seem like a updated version of GW1.
I think many GW1 fans would be shocked to not feel at home in GW2. Another thing I do not fault Arenanet for is their graphical style. I have always found it very beautiful.

You can say the same thing for the background in the archage one. For that matter you can say the same thing of the background of probably any gfx environment.... just saying its photoshop shows he's not really going to pay attention to any argument thrown his way and deviate to somthing else, like photoshop.
Keep in mind also that GW2 is going for a painterly, artistic feel as opposed to a more cartoonish look (like WoW, in line with their Warcraft series by design) or others going for a "realistic" look. The world is gorgeous in it's own rights... just don't compare apples to eggs.
The graphics look fine, it's the asian-styled aesthetics I'm not a huge fan of. Not a deal breaker, but I prefer a much more european look for my games.

Games almost always look better than their youtube videos portray. Need to see it for real before judging how dated it looks in my opinion.
GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind" 1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN 2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements

Agree...because of the painterly, artistic effect, GW2 graphics will stand the test of time.

It doesn't look remotely asian.
The characters come across as asian styled to me as well, although not necessarily the environments. The Asura are as pokemonesque as you can get...

But that's what people love to do. Compare 2 wildly different things and then complain that one isn't more like the other.
I cringe every time someone mentioned small zoned AoC graphics and then compare to a game that has a more open world ala WoW. Not saying people compare AoC graphics to WoW graphics, but severely instanced world with more open world. Of course the instanced world is going to look better it has a much better framework to adjust graphics for. The fact that AoC needs a beast of a machine even after 4 years is a con to me to be honest.
I'm fine with below average technical graphics as long as the style compensates for it

Kinda think its good enough. This video goes through the different graphics settings, and at high it looks pretty damn good imo.

cant have good graphics and massive pvp at the sametime, just not possible.

I am actully Looking forward to GW2 release but I do want to say, the graphics just seem meh....
Its really not that nice- and then again there not that bad. I just expected a little more is all.
Gameplay wise (Try it yourself befor you make ANY opinion) = Some things wont be what you thought they were or are going to be.
You don't want to pay a subscription fee, corners have to be cut somewhere.
If it turns out to be a good game, so what if the graphics aren't top-notch? Gameplay should always come first anyway.
If it ends up sucking, THEN you can use graphics as that extra little kick to the gut when you're berating it.

This is very true. From most first had impressions, the game is very visually pleasing.

Outdated?!? I'm looking at this character model from Rata Sum and if that's not realistic I don't know what is..
