A wipe was never on the table not even for second. Anyone who thinks it was obviously doesn't understand PWI at all. They don't give back people money once you have spent it in game. It goes completely counter to what there whole purpose as a business is which is to create virtual platforms intended to encourage people to buy virtual goods from them with real money.
The funny part is that people did exactly what you expect them to do during a "beta". They found bugs and yea once it became public knowledge there was mass exploiting but in every other beta the developers would have wiped the servers and had a good laugh about it. PWI/Cryptic really backed themselves into a corner here with the whole we are going to accept your money and let your progress but call it beta thing. One would hope that they and other developers will learn from this mistake and stop doing stupid shit like this "open beta" thing but I know they won't.
A wipe wouldn't cost Cryptic any money in returned sales. Zen and AD counts would be reset. There would be no monetary refunds for a full wipe. A wipe was never on the table because many people like myself didn't exploit and don't want to lose their progress.
It's tagged with "open beta" so if there was a wipe I could deal with it, but I prefer a more fine grained approach.
There is a huge difference between ZEN people have on their account and ZEN people have already spent. One is something you have taken payment for but have not delivered the service yet and other you have completed the transaction for. So yea it would be a big deal to PWI to refund everyone's Zen.
If someone has purchased Zen but not transferred it to Neverwinter then there is no problem. If someone purchased and spent Zen they could refund that without having to refund money.
Like I said though, I'm not in favor of a wipe. It's overkill and I don't understand why some are fighting so diligently for this. I don't see the benefit, especially if a majority of the excess AD is removed and those accounts are shuttered.
Well, it's not just the AD that's the issue. The price of the higher-tier BoE's plummeted on the auction house and flooded the market with a ton of powerful gear. I logged on after reading about the exploit and found gear that was once 100k+ AD going for 5k a pop. Needless to say I stocked up on some nice gear, but I'm still in favor of a reset.
I went legit to 60- no exploits or anything and im just now starting to get in some nice purple gear. I would be pissed if they did a wipe. I would not want to lose everything and have to start over, it would probably be the nail in the coffin for me if they did a wipe. They can ban on an individual basis, it may take a while but it could be done ,so us legit players dont have to suffer.
The 71% are idiots.
A wipe supports the products long term goal... Your refusal to wipe supports your short term goal and a very selfish stance acknowledging all the information is available to see how broken the economy is. Now I doubt you plan on playing for years until you feel the need to falsify reality to sound right in this thread because if you did plan on playing for the "LONG TERM" you'd know you would reroll a new toon anyways so the idea wouldn't be so hard to deal with.
No. A wipe supports certain parties wish to grief the entire player base. Tall tales about some future "economy" that might be "destroyed", demonstrate a lack of understanding of the realities of virtual economies in these games. Those crying bitter tears about a "level end game experience" and future "sales in the AH" are more drama llama than anything else. The end game (what there is of it) will still exist, and those who take part will have the same opportunities to grind for gear, that they would in any case.
As for the AH, these virtual economies have ended up inflated and fragmented, time out of mind. Anyone who says otherwise either hasn't been playing attention, or is part of the problem. One of the very few games that takes their economy seriously is CCP's, EVE online, and even that has had its issues over the years.
Players that don't want a full wipe because they played fairly really don't understand the extent of what happened and what will continue to affect them for a long, long time.
Isn't there a saying about ignorance? I could have sworn there was, hmmm.
This is the kind of thing that keeps people from even trying the game. Why get excited about a new game when the game doesn't police itself? Even if they ban the accounts that did the cheating, they all will have dummy/mule accounts holding the filthy lucre. I don't like walking down the street in high crime neighborhoods; and I don't like playing games with known thieves being allowed to get away with their "crimes."

Anyone that dos not want a wipe. A. Either exploited B. Is too lazy too spend the short time to lev up again. There is no way that the game will bounce back after this with no wipe. I have a char at 60 had almost all my epic gear. Now there is no way to afford it for people that do not cheat. I wont play the game again unless a new server starts or wipe. It is a great game and was having a lot of fun in the pvp but i just cant forgive this company for blowing it off.

Or they value their invested time and effort, more than some theoretical damage to a virtual economy. I'm playing this game because its entertaining. Its a hobby, not a second job. If I wanted a second job, I'd go back to EVE or Perpetuum (EVE on the ground with mechs). ^^

To each their own. But I was in game just a bit ago, and PE was just as filled as it has been, and I doubt many people really care about the antics of those who exploited the system. The game is still fun, and thats what matters to me.

You realize mule accounts can be uncovered by tracing the activity of an offender right? Whether they take such a step remains to be seen, however, there have been many cases of legit players being banned due to unknowingly accepted trades from those who had exploited currency (in past games). Tracing said activity is the why of such bans.

i was reading that poll that someone posted in the beginning of this thread where people are like "OMG MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WANT A WIPE"...The majority of what??? lol the forum?! jesus you people. sad news but forum doesnt= majority of people who play the game and never even GO to the forum.
It appears that the forum gods are active at Neverwinter. Posts are being pulled left and right. What was really odd was reading a post - commenting - when the refresh occurred after posting. The post I had quoted was gone. When I refreshed, that post and any I have done in the last couple of days disappeared.
Anyone else seeing this happening?
Just an FYI, my post was mild and so was the person I was quoting... Just odd.
Just logged in to send a ticket to say "Rollback shows how much you care about your game, I reported this bug 10 days ago and you did nothing. All the exploiters are still online and not banned. Enjoy your cash grab world without me"
Gonna play GW2 or DDO till smthg decent releases, not wasting time on another Perfect world game anymore...
Originally posted by cheeseheads lol i said f it and just uninstalled the game. just so glad i didnt give them a dime yet. no full wipe = no money
Why do you need a wipe to enjoy the game?
Damn good question. I'm looking at the majority of those demanding a wipe, as just wanting to grief the entire player base. That would be the near ultimate Goonie/Troll antic. Fortunately, Cryptic/PWE didn't listen to them.
Edit2: Cryptic should also file a lawsuit for this. These exploiters should be held accountable for what they did, just as much as Cryptic should...I haven't heard almost anyone blame the exploiters... Just because I "could" take my AR-15 down to the store and rob it, doesn't really mean that I should. They have grounds to sue for this, since the exploiters broke the EULA.
You are mistaken here. PWE can decide about their rules regarding there product, within their game so to say, which is done by handing out a certain EULA. But outside of that box there is no way to sue anyone for ingame behaviour because it's no item to any law infringement outside of that game.
I can tell you speaking for my guild, no one is logging in anymore, all going back to GW2 or rift or etc...
We might consider coming back after a few months where they open an exploit free new server, but then again, there will be better things out there to play in a few months

70% of a very low percentage IS a majority... just look at our American election system.

PWE.. WILL... NOT... WIPE... THE... SERVER !!!
You can make polls, petitions and forum posts until the cows come home.
A wipe would affect their income badly, so just forget it.

How in the world can you offer a level playing field in a game that allows you to buy currency with RL cash?
