In a new interview over at Eurogamer, ArenaNet's game director Colin Johanson and lead content designer Mike Zadorojny speak to the community of gamers who believe that Guild Wars 2's best days are behind it. The interview focuses on declining NCSoft revenue, the potential for an expansion, "sweeping new features coming soon, and much, much more.
Concern: 350 people! And all they've come up with are story updates people outside the game can't connect with? Where are the big new features? Is there really no expansion planned?
Actually, it sounds like there is an expansion planned. "We have a couple of really big Guild Wars projects cooking in the background," Johanson told me.
Later, he added: "Some of our players believe that because we are doing this Living World seasons, and these features or these big feature-builds, that it means that the features you would traditionally get in an expansion, or the content you would traditionally get in an expansion, is not something that will get added to Guild Wars 2. And that is not true at all.
"Not only are we doing those things, new features and content you would traditionally get from a boxed expansion are also things that will be added to Guild Wars 2.
"The thing that we haven't decided yet," he went on, "is what form that type of content will take. Is it right for Guild Wars 2 for that kind of boxed expansion? Is it right for that to be something we add, live, through storylines in the game? Is that something we want to sell through our in-game store? There are a lot of different options available to us.
"... but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions - large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2."
Mike Zadorojny, clarifying his comments from last year - which suggested there wouldn't be an expansion any time soon - said: "The answer I gave you [in 2013] was that nothing was off the table."

Reason being boxed expansion = another lump sum from customers pay. Good support when cash shop isn't generating as much as they like and want another boost of income. They make it almost sound like they are doing it for the players more then to rake in bigger profits being able to sell a box. XD
None the less I'm a bit surprised they posted such a message. Granted its pretty much beaten down on the forums (myself being one of the people who feels its heavily over-rated and otherwise mediocre at best) I wouldn't think they would post about it. Granted Im sure numbers would drop (all games do) there most been a general big outcry for them to put a message out in that fashion.

Big - 17 times

I have a hard time imagining an expansion or expansion like content that could add enough to make me interested in going back to gw2... and that's assuming they added it for free which is highly unlikely.
This person speaks the truth. No much needs to be said beyond that.
GW2 has been out for like 16 months and they are STILL not sure how to do permanent content additions?!
The title says "Dont Count Us Out Yet" but its probably too late for that.
Not gonna return for just a few zones and a new race. They have to put in meaningful character progression beyond level 20, more frequent events that are easy to find and participate and make dungeons properly. Actually i have so many gripes with this game from terrible armor design to elementary school level writing, i don't think there is anything they can do for me at this point.
And what will happen after the expansion, more weapon skins and backpacks? Grindy achievements that means nothing? Everyone says the combat is good but with at least 1 min cds on every other skill you just end up spamming a couple skills and wait for your cds to end. Action combat, you guys!!
Yeah i'll just pass tbh. I mean these are the guys that screwed up basic classes like elementalist, necro and ranger.
A great list of free games (mostly MMORPGs): http://www.mytop10games.com/
I don't see where exactly they lied. You seem to think that everything people say are set in stone. Adapting to the change in climate is crucial for survival. Anyway, I got the game that I was expecting. But in the first place, your highlighted statement should be the way everyone thinks, so they don't get sucked into the hype and develop delusions about what the game would be like.
It's a niche title with hardcore fans playing every day and those casuals dropping in now and again. The game is holding it's own very well and if they offer more those who like the game will take it. For those posting here because the title grabbed your attention, you can sling your foul mud and just don't have to play. /shrug
I enjoy GW2 and many mmorpgs, but I cannot wait until Wildstar is released so GW2 will step away from the whipping post.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Obviously if you like the game you are doing something wrong.....

GW2 was one of the worst mmos I ever played.
Well, i've read the entire interview and failed to see exactly that statement from them. So , you even quote them and paste it here, or else, stfu!
I am re-downloading the game as we speak. I've enjoy it back then, I'll enjoy it now too.
This till Wildstar release
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
Pfff, what an empty interview. It is becoming boring how they are always busy considering unnamed things.
GW2 misses some important MMO features. Character development needs to be fleshed out. Atm, lvling a character feels like you get 20 lvls of character progression smeared out over 80 lvls.
Cities need a use. All racial main cities, not just LA.
Guild halls. Even GW1 had them.
Personally I would like them to stop tying every single new thing to some arbitrary achievement progress bar. This is how I see GW2 now. The gimmicky achievement race. They introduced these in GW1 at some point and for some reason got stuck with the idea that everything has to be about the achievements and titles.
I gave Colin a chance. Now GW2 isn't even on my hard drive anymore.
Too much lip service, not enough delivery.
This should be sticky to every new MMO coming out.

Guild Wars 2 is a 10/10 game, and anyone who did not like the game either a) did not play it or b) never played WoW or any other MMORPG before and doesn't know what to do.
The best post above is the one that states the fact they like knowing they can come back to GW2 any time, but has no idea why they do not want to come back. That is how I feel as well. There is no challenge, and the end-game has no point besides fun. And as good as fun is, there still needs to be some kind of threat at the end.
WoW is still successful despite all its failings because it has conflict. That is what is missing from GW2. To date, my wife still has a Horde sticker on her car. She will still say "For the Horde!" as a cheer, and she still hates the Alliance. But she hasn't played WoW for a long time, and I have not played for even longer. Even myself, if I meet someone who played Alliance, they definitely drop a notch in my book.
GW2 needs to add conflict between players. Something for people to rally behind. Just as Democrats and Republicans bring massive amounts of attention and funding by bashing the other side, GW2 needs two enemy factions to go head to head. I strongly suggest that GW2 goes wild and adds an entire new faction complete with new races and their own continent and pits them against the all-loving-happy-guys which make up the current unconflicted population. A Horde to fight the Alliance, so to speak. In doing so, players will re-roll new characters, they will come back to the game, they will want to fight their enemies. They will complain that they are always outnumbered and that it is always unfair, and they will fall asleep every night loving it.
Bring some World PvP into GW2. Bring some Faction vs. Faction (vs. Faction!?!?!) warfare into the minds of your players. Right now, the server vs. server is kind of impersonal and does not leave me with any satisfaction in winning or losing. Having an enemy try and kill me while I'm in the world who is also on my server... now that's fun, and worth my time.
I think the PvE is amazing. I think the WvW is great (but maybe a bit too predictable). I think the Arena matches are extremely balanced and require strategy rather than just burst (WoW). But in the open world - I for one who has explored maybe 10-20% of the map - is useless.
Imagine doing a quest where you have to escort an NPC across a zone while defending him from enemy players on an assassination quest to end the NPC's life. How cool would that be? Right now, we get to sit in WvW and escort a yak while no one cares.
I love GW2 and would be so happy to have them add some conflict to get me back in the game. Right now, GW2 is a 10/10 in my book with no reason to log back into the game.
