A roster that says who's online
some sort of emblem/symbol that you can wear
Is this what HJ is going to give us, or more? And can you go into detail on what more?
DAoC had 10 ranks, which was usually more then enough, but what I really liked is what CoV came out with, but they only gave us 5.
I'd like to be able to create my own ranks, and manage the permissions for that rank. Also, I'd like to have intra-guild designations. You know, so i could have a red team and a blue team, and each would have a team leader... bar that, titles that could be customized for a basically identical purpose. but now i'm rambling ;)
Also, can you give us any details on player/guild housing as far as what kinda control we'll have over the looks?

As for your list of guild controls... Yes, and more.

Just to say it, what I'm about to say can change in an instant...

What I will share is this, Currently, you need a "min" of 2 people to form a clan. You will be given up to 6 different ranks. Each of those ranks will be named by the guild leader or "anyone" the guild leader gives the ability to. Almost every ability that the guild leader can do, he or she can delegate to lower ranks. This is to give power to leaders that don't like to micro manage.

That's all I'm giving away for the time being. But there is ALOT more.

As for player housing, that's not my subject to speak on. You might be able to find a few quotes about it elsewhere though.

I'm glad you can't change them once you pick them, it would just get tiring.

You currently pick them at the start when you make your "hero". (subject to change)

How many costumes do we get to have for our character at the start of the game? I need AT LEAST 2 if not 3 ::::40::

Also, they mentioned something about being able to show off your speical prize loot. Does this mean we'll have the option to make some special items show up? Or will they always show up? Never?

I was under the impression that there would only be basic weapons, and that it would be our choices to give them abilities and make them kick ass, but someone in another thread was mentioning major loot camping trying to find that "uber weapon" Does this mean that we'll have to work at finding that uber weapon, and THEN upgrading it, or are all weapon you get within a certain range, and it relies on us to level them up and make them uber?

If I remember correctly, you'll have multiple costumes to play with.

As for the loot, the context of the quote is a little vague. Items for your house? Items that "upgrade" your weapons? Items you wear? It's that are just pure fluff but rare?

As for uber weapons and camping, all I can say is it's something we will be keeping a close eye on if /when it happens and see how it affects things. Now, there may be some weapons that are perma-moded. Others will be able to have abilities/upgrades.

I tend to find that people who camp have no lives, and I'd much rather play a game revolving around fun things to do than having to sit around so I can get a rediculous weapon and of course sell it, rinse and repeat. Because in most MMOs for some reason (even though they're no fun) money = fun.

Again, that's why I like DR, because if you want to, you can just GO SWIM, or pig out on silly foods, or if you're like me, go hunting.

Or play with your useless collection of dolls...

Or wonder why goblins/grendels/whatever else don't drop gweths anymore.. Something I still don't get.

Can you tell us any more about character creation besides picking our image? Will we have a set of skills based on our class? Will we hae a big list to chose from to customize our character? Do we get to pick our stats, or is that chosen by our race?

Do we pick our starting faction right off the bat, or do we do something in a tutorial that gives us more info before we pick.

Oh, does the character info leave room for us to fill in a bio that other people can look at when they examine us?

As for housing I meant, do we get to pick whether its wood or stone, or has a fireplace, or do we only get to put pictures and chairs in there? Or is it just a place to store stuff?

  • xDivianaDRxxDivianaDRx Member Posts: 239

If HJ is like DR in any way, only Premium members will have their own houses to pick how they look.

The rest of us will have to rent a room in an Inn and deal with the way it looks. (and probably have less storage space)...

(I hope that's right, I remember hearing something about renting rooms in Inns for more storage space, but I know they'll have player housing, so I'm quite sure that's how it will turn out)

    Hi Royce,

I've got a question. I am working as an interpreter/translator (My languages are German (native), French (native), English, Italian; at the moment I am trying to learn Spanish and Chinese (great fun, but the pronunciation (mandarin of course) is quite difficult.) In a recent forum post (at MMORPG.com) you mentioned that HJ is going to be published worldwide. So I am asking myself if there will be a translation in different languages and if there is a possibility to help you in any way?

    With best Wishes,

Hrm, this one is difficult to answer but... I can honestly say that at the moment there isn't one. But, because of the way things are being setup, it's not at all impossible. (That's all I can say at the moment).

But the one thing we already have is users from all over the world.. We even have multinational GameMasters as well.

We are ALWAYS looking for more GM's that fit the bill.

    and...

I want to learn German. (heritage)

Some MMORPG'S like EQ 2 for example had a really bad translation. So they tried to improve that situation and tried to correct the failures, but it got worse. Now there's a mixture between German and English ::::05:: , what makes the situation for German players sometimes unplayable. For some players this was a reason to quit their subscription.

Otherwise a good translation of a MMORPG is a possibility to gain more players. A game is there to entertain you and after a long, hard workday the ordinary player doesn't want to spend half of his/her playing time looking into a dictionary.

World of Warcraft has for example a good localisation team, although they made one great mistake. They published the Game here in Germany with the English toponyms. That wouldn't have been the problem, because most Germans like the sound of English names. But after playing many months with knowing these toponyms, they were surprised and even upset by seeing that they were gradually replaced by a German translation.

You learn to appreciate the beauteousness of a language by reading poetry. And you learn to appreciate a language, when you become aware of the unique expressions, the unique words, which often reveal an unknown secret to its readers.

I have been looking for a mmorpg home for a while now and the last few choices, unfortunately, have been duds. Hero's Journey looks VERY promising BUT almost every where I see the game mentioned, I see people talk about Dragon Realms and Gemstone and the blatant GM favoritism ( I haven't played either so I don't know but its been mentioned quite a few times that I seen so there must be SOME truth to it, what level I am not sure). The rest of the game sounds awesome but I am curious what steps are going to be done about GM favoritism?

Sorry to be blunt like that but I didn't know a nice way to phrase it.

  • norriscjnorriscj Member Posts: 107

I've played GS 3 & now 4 off and on since 1995 or so and have never once seen something that I would consider GM favoritism. This isn't to say that it doesn't exist... but I've never seen it come up at all.

Sometimes I wonder what exactly happened when a player says there is GM favoritism. I wonder if it was simply a case of another player being chosen at a merchant. I really dont know.

  • DirtySteveDirtySteve Member Posts: 88

Usually I discount anything said on the internet when its rumors about a product. But like i stated, in almost every thread about Simutronics (I even seen this on these very mmorpg HJ forums!) at least a few people have mentioned this. Its mentioned so often in fact I wanted to address it.

Again. I have never played a Simutronics game so I can't speak from experience. I wouldn't bring this up at all if i didn't care about the game and the more I think about it, if they accomplish everything they mean to do (which would be a roleplayers dream game) I can see how it would be very easy for GMs to show player favoritism. I used to go to gaming conventions years ago (yeah I know, nerd ;p ) You would meet all kinds of GMs. Some good, some bad.

If the convention GM stunk (monty Haul, munchkin, Killer DM), you just gathered up your stuff and left. You can't do that in an mmorpg. You can quit the game true, but whose to say the GM didnt eat a bad burrito the night before and kills everyone due to indigetion?

I am starting to ramble but I hope I got my point across. Not pointing a finger, just curious what steps will be done to prevent this kind of thing.

I'm not one to take what one person says as being the Almighty truth (yes, pun intended), but there are some people who will.
Likewise I am not saying you are wrong at all, but would really like to see some links to threads where this is discussed. Be it on these forums as you said and other forums.

Simply because if you heard if from a guy who knows a guy etc then came on here and claim it, you're making a serious statement/tarnish on the Simu crew.
So it would be much appreciated, by myself and possibly other readers and Simu themselves, if you could back up this claim with some proof please? As much for my curiosity as to give some basis to your (rather momentous) claims.

    If you can't prove it, it's here-say.

    Simu Devs:

I know there are game elements you're not talking about etc, but having been playing DR for a week, it's totally opening my mind up to new questions regarding HJ hehe.

I absolutely love the fact that you can forage around anywhere, pretty much manipulate any item you find or dig up etc and make things with it. Is this complexity going to be in HJ? Or is HJ more following the 'search and kill for treasure and components' theory?
Kind of vague I know, but I'm not expecting a very thorough answer at this point anyways! imageimage

I've played DR since I was 16, and only heard of GM favoritism once, from my real life friend who actually introduced it to me.

I never saw it, I'm sure it happened occasionally, but I think if the GM was caught, they were fired.

And from what I'm grasping, I think there will be more interactivity with HJ than any other MMO, however I'm not sure if it will be little things like foraging. There will probably be at least some.

    On GM favoritism,

This is hard subject to speak on.

The one thing I can say is this, we reward those that "play" the game and stay in character. We always have. They bring a depth to the game that we as GM's can not. Players that do this become infectious (for lack of a better word). People around them start to RP.. and then people around them.. and people around them...etc...etc.

Some people don't RP and just play the game. Which is fine. I myself as a player never really RP'ed in dragonrealms short of being a locksmith (picked boxes). Other than that, I spoke to people like normal and treated them all the same, with respect.

I never got any rewards for it like I saw others getting. But I "knew" for a fact I didn't RP to get one. This can (and has) lead to claims of favoritism being spread.

There are also cases where some "brillant" RP has taken place and no reward was given because... we just can't be everywhere at once and we'de miss it. This is another case where (although rare) can lead to people saying favortism. Hence, Dragonrealms launched a system that allowed players to give the rewards.

I was a full time player for 3 years and was then on staff for 3 years. I had no favorite player, just a favorite guild (Guild = Profession/Class to those that don't play DR)

Favoritism of any single player is a no-no. A big one. Every GM knows this. I can honestly say as a GM, I never witnessed any blatant GM favoritism to any single individual in my time on staff. I was buried in code though. I have to admit that.

In such cases, if any GM shows favortism to any one player, they are terminated. Hands down. Cases such as GM-X gives player-Y uberKnifeOfKittenShaving or some such item. Item confiscated, GM fired. This are no if's ands or buts.

We have a strict policy on this subject as does any online game worth a darn.
