Stop pretending it's the same.  It's not.  You can be immersed in a world of fantasy that looks realistic, but not in one that looks the opposite.

If you want to be immersed in a world that looks realistic all you have to do is open the front door.

I think the style of graphics with the mix of humor is just enough to not sway the boat in either direction of too life-like/too much violence vs. carebearish pve stuff.

I don't suffer from escapism as I'm a programmer and I do enjoy my job (as I don't have to trouble shoot, only create products lol) so when I'm gaming, I'm there purely for its entertainment value only, I'm not trying to over-compensate for anything because truth is, I have a lot of money tucked away and when I'm off of work I expect to have some good quality entertainment lined up for myself.

That being said, I truly enjoy the imagery, the sounds and the combat style of Wildstar. It's a good solid mixture of various elements coming together.

Also, I like that they are allowing for people to go to their in-game "foodstamp line" and buy CREDDs. That helps out those who have nothing to be on the "same level" of entertainment as those of us who have more in life. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that.

To me, it's a 9/10 product with "1" being reserved for some game-breaking bug I find or something lol.

Stop pretending that your opinion is fact, you don't tell me what i can and can not get immersed in.

I find this MMO to be a work of love almost.

This game reminds me of the PlayStation 2 era. When we were allowed to have fun in a game but yet still have a challenge there. This game screams Ratchet & Clank. Personally I find that amazing.

Its pretty clear it wasn't aimed at players who think something has to look "Serious" 24/7. That itself gets boring pretty fast. I believe this was made for veteran raid players that enjoy having fun but still want the challenge. They have done the whole "Lets be as serious as we possibly can about everything" already. They want a solid, difficult, old-school feeling theme-park game.....and Carbine has delivered. This is the most solid game I've seen in the last 7+ years.

For those that don't understand. Continue enjoying your games and lay off the "rants". For those that do understand it. I'll see you on Nexus.

It's hard to get past really not liking what you're looking at for extended periods of time. A runny dog turd could be the most entertaining thing on the planet, but I'm still staring at a runny dog turd and that's hard to ignore. I'm not saying Wildstar graphics are bad, I just don't like the art style to the point it detracts from the good parts of the game.

Which is pretty much the same thing i said. I maybe wrong, but from what I remember, their storyline is pretty PG, and animation style, resembles an American cartoon for teens. When was the last time you saw a good serious American cartoon?

I dont know what PG movies you are watching that say Fuck Ya. Using the word Fuck more than once in a movie makes it rated R, Wildstar says it constantly.

Easy.  It is sort of the same way that I still enjoy watching cartoons. I don't see how it is an issue.  If the fact that something looks like a cartoon bothers you I believe you may be exploring the wrong hobby.  People that believe cartoons are just for kids are usually the same people that believe that "real men" don't do fantasy, or act like video games are for kids (unless its CoD of course).   My advice. Get over yourself.  If you don't like the game that is fine, but don't hide behind something like cartoon graphics when you are playing a science fantasy video game.

I still enjoy cartoons, but there are some that have animation styles that really turn me off. It's the same thing as not liking the art style of a game.

Believe it or not, there is a market for these types of gamer's.

Seems like it's easier for the developers to upgrade the game graphics going in this direction without the game aging quickly.

Allods Onlines, Runes of Magic, Rift, Talisman Online and of course World of Warcraft use similar art direction + many more.

I am more into realistic graphics so I know where ya stand, but yeah, there is definitely a market for this type of game.

I love it, but maybe because I can remember when Space Ace, Cliffhanger and Dragon's Lair first came out and how absolutely amazing it was to play an animated game. I see the genius and evolution of it. I would much rather have animated graphics that hold up than realistic graphics that fade out quickly. I can now have my animated games with much more control and freedom with the characters. Brilliant.

I certainly agree with the OP.

I mean Pong was the same way for me.   The ball was a freakin' square!!!  How does a square ball bounce at such precise angles???

Completely ruined the immersion for me.  image

Good thing I have people like you to tell me what I can and cannot be immersed in. There I was under the false impression that I was enjoying Wildstar.

Personally I don't mind the graphics, but some of the run animations could use improvement. I mean the male emo space zombies look like they are frolicking through the woods, and the females look like they are headed to the gym to work on their mantraction skills "my arms may be rotting off but my butt still looks good in these short shorts rights fellas?"

Oh and is anyone else annoyed by the nano-crypt keeper and his smart ass comments?

Complaining about stylized graphics only crudely "representing" the characters? (as opposed to realistic graphics representing them accurately)

I am more bothered by the fact that the majority of MMOs represent "epic battles" by putting 3 NPCs stuck in their fighting animation forever (looking at you ESO...),

Or when the same 5 animations are used throughout the game to (poorly) represent a variety of situation (the same over the top, identical "applause", "cry" or "laugh" emote that are overused in every situation).

To me, everything seems "toonish" and "unrealistic" about MMOs... And that's regardless of the chosen art style.

And you are spending your life on complaining about something you do not like and will never play ... why? Do you really think you will influence me to stop to enjoy great game with GREAT cartoony graphics? Love every bit of it but what matter even more is QUALITY OF GAMEPLAY. If all other components would be missing I would for sure not play.. But with Wildstar everything match. Besides if you purchased (but I'm sure you did not, just spreading your hate) you can not say you did not know what you buy, is completely obvious from box, from youtube, ....

So I can see you as just one very annoying person not having anything fun or useful to do in life. Like many.

The graphics were a bit of a turn-off at first, mainly because they reminded me of WoW.  But they have grown on me and now I think they fit the setting and the feel perfectly.  Granted, the graphics still need to be optimized a bit it seems, but I get consistent 40-70 fps, which is fine for me.  What I really enjoy are the large seamless zones.  I was playing FFXIV most recently and it was such a breath of fresh air in WS to actually be able to explore some large zones and collect all the Easter eggs.  Not sure if I'll sub beyond the first month as I'm trying to finish my graduate degree, but this game is great... don't let the graphics hold you back.

I think we have a winner here.

Though I prefer "realistic" art design, I don't understand how people can denigrate styleized graphics, insinuating they are "for kids" and still play video games pretending to be an Elf, an Orc, a Mage or "Space Man spiff".

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that date:

    "Wait, you play video games?"

"it's ok, I only play the games that have realistic graphics. My character is a Dark elf Shadow Knight and let me tell you all about it!!!!

Welcome to what we here on earth call 'personal preference'.

See, personal preference can still exist regardless of the situation.  Meaning, as it applies here, one can still prefer a realistic approach, even if the subject of conversation isn't entirely realistic.

For instance.  I like Lord Of The Rings far more than Shrek.  I like Elder Scrolls far more than World Of Warcraft.  Sure, all of it can be considered a bit nerdy or dorky.  However, my preference leans heavily towards a darker, more gritty, realistic nature.

Is an Orc realistic?  No.  But regardless of that fact, I'd still prefer a real world simulation of that Orc over a cartoony version.

Why is it so difficult to understand why people often lump 'cartoony' features in with children?  It should be obvious, and I shouldn't need to explain it.  So I won't, and I'll assume you are intelligent enough to figure it out.

And, why can't graphics be stylized AND realistic?  From what I always read around here, it seems like people use that word as a cover up for shitty graphcs.  When does stylized ever not mean crap?

i hope this is a trololol post ... the graphics look like a poor quality 3d cartoon of the 90's ...  (ok its kinda harsh but anyway they are not acceptable there are a lot of cartoony games which have better graphics .. )

     these are cartoon graphics

No I disagree loulaki they are a really good art style. It is a question of taste and the graphics on my not so great Ge Force 580 GTX look very good and I bet on a very good card even better. You just do not see it because you dislike the art style. I do not even have my settings like draw distance and stuff up to max and no shadows cos of fps.

You know art that some people like I cannot even begin to see the beauty in and it is because each of us has an individual taste but that does not mean others cannot like or think it is very good. You cannot see it because you cannot get past the style.

Explanation between graphics and detail ,aesthetics and style in Wildstar. He describes the detail on the robot watch it. The problem with so many of you that played this game you just looked at the art style and dismissed the game without actually looking at the world and the details that went into making this world. There is nothing that can be done if you have a prejudiced view. However do not come here and attempt to actually tell those of us who like the style that it is trolling or a joke.
