Maybe those stories people related in this thread about the women met in MMOs being bossy and controlling are just insecure women who are over-compensating for being in what they believe to be a male dominated area. Of course, they're completely wrong about that these days. Like I said earlier... you can't turn around without bumping into one of us!
Another reason might be that a lot of the guys having problems with women playing games are young and haven't yet found their "voice" when it comes to interacting with women they don't really know. They might be a bit intimidated because of their inexperience. I have watched my two lovely nephews grow up, become interested in girls, react to them in a typical teenage clumsy manner, survive it, figure it out and end up to be in decent relationships.
Of course, there are those sorts of men who, because of whatever brain disease they suffer from, dislike seeing women in games or anywhere else which doesn't resemble a kitchen or a bedroom. For them, there's simply no hope at all and I banish them to my mental /ignore list.
As long as a person can do their job in instances, dungeons and alike, why should gender matter. i team up with a girl in CoV on a regular basis and she more often than not out shines me, though that may be partially becuse she plays a Mastermind and im a Corruptor, but either way, we both do our job, play our role and its a very fun experience

ive never seen a problem, i always judge ppl before i find out their gender, such as if im partying with someone, if its a male character and their cool ill just be friends, if its a female character (and still cool), ill be friends and eventually ask if their female in RL (its like "getting to know ur friends" kind of thing)
so normaly i dont ask unless we've been friends for awhile (and i dont already know from talking to them), but i still dont know why most ppl either dont like or care when a girl is playing a game, i guess thats just their immaturity showing
Thanks Signe, I'm on the same page with your posts as well. I think we both agree that there won't be any conversions of the misguided here, but the player population in general acknowledges and welcomes the interaction of the sexes in Video Games.
I wanted to add one more thing for some of the misguided guys out there... particularly those who have this impression that "Girls take up too much of your game time", or "Don't let you play as much as you'd like":
Long before Video games, men who have enjoyed watching many a sport have had issues with wives/girlfriends dissapproving of Sunday Afternoons and Weeknight With The Guys (tm) to watch Football, Hockey, Baseball, Basketball... etc.
On the flipside, many a guy has had issues with his spouse/girlfriend spending too much time shopping with her friends.
It's all about finding a companion you click with. Someone who shares similar interests and values. Someone who doesn't mind letting you have your unique interests, and you let them have theirs. That's the tricky thing to find in someone, and not everyone works together. Nothing good ever comes out of "controlling" a mate's interests. If it doesn't work... it just doesn't work no matter how much you'd like it to.
It's common sense, really.

I think she did make a point there and it did prove something. She can play the same games as you, as well as anyone else, and she can still be a girly girl.
