Number one reason they do not tell people they are girls. Because the average guy, in the safety behind his keyboard, where no one can hear his stuttering, and smell his sweaty palms (feet, armpits, you name it) or see his nervoursness... Turn into a flipping moron that should be shot on sight. So IF you do not meet any girls gamers or see any real girl gamers.. Then its because you are one of these idiots, probably abusive and proud about it. Get out from behind that desk and turn into a human again.. then MAYBE they will stop hiding...

Please. There is a clear indicator of the possibility that a player is female... playing a female toons. That in itself commonly inspires the question, "So, are you a real girl?".
But to get back to your point... last time I checked there aren't too many titles out there where you can play a "gay" sexually oriented character, nor are real world religions portrayed in most games. Skin colours come in virtually every colour of the rainbow, and nobody seems to care.
