what are others opinions on it is it worth time and effort? as i get older i find more and more i just  cant bring myself to level up any thing lol, i think mmos might have died for me :( lol

So you rushed through the game, not giving it the time or effort, then you decided its MEH? You should give it some more time and work out everything the game has to offer before making these assumptions. Whats worse is you don't even explain why you found it to be "meh". You might be right with saying mmorpgs are dead for you.

Do both of those things and you may find something pretty amazing.

If you have to 'push through to level 30', then perhaps the game developers should reevaluate their game design. It's 2014, man. That's all I have to say.

I can't name a single MMO that I start playing that is "omg super fun wowowowow" from the very beginning.  The beginning is about learning the basics, understanding the controls/actions and figuring out how things operate.  The reason that this has become an issue is due to the fact that every game is essentially the same - at least the larger produced games - and they play out almost entirely alike down to the simplest details.

Every game dating back to 2004 feels and plays the same from the beginning, requiring a lot of time to truly ramp up and feel like it's becoming more fun.  Try playing a new character in WoW and see how it feels for the first 1-2 hours - especially without heirloom gear to boost it.  It's boring as hell and games continue this trend simply by being so similar.

But even beyond that, every game has a "ramp up" portion where you start small, basic and without too much to take in and you begin progressing to unlock more and more of your character's potential.  The problem lies in the fact that we barely learn anything new, like mentioned previously, so that early period is just as boring as the last time we've seen it.

i thought gw2 was really fun at the start ....but then end game was shit they got it backwards  but goes to show games can be fun from the beginning

I think you have just answered a very important question . No game that I have played that was instantly fun at the start has managed to maintain that because usually games with depth take time for to teach you about the game .

The fact you only played for so short a time  shows you really know nothing about Archeage nor were you willing to give it time or learn about it . You probably got frustrated and came on here to bitch about it without giving it a chance .

You can't tell anything about any mmo in the first hour thats ever been made other than whether you like the combat and the graphics . You can know nothing about the game itself so to say its "meh" based on such little information just shows the level of your mentality and maturity . This game was designed for people that want something more complex and challenging so its obvious why you had no chance of liking it . Its probably a bit beyond you .

I mean come on ! do you know any intelligent adult that uses "meh" to describe something .

played beta 6 hour and already bored to game. there is simply not much to do in game. quest or farm. pvp only works in pvp zone but i was not even able attack another player in pvp zone. just feels dull. typical asian mmorpg.

So against my better judgement i tried the beta.

Game feels very outdated however it is jam packed with features. It has everything that MMO should have. People keep telling me get to 30 in game and then you will start enjoying. So what about first 30 levels? am i just not supposed to enjoy that too?

I think devs should rethink lvl 1 to 30 leveling before game releases. AA may or may not be fun after level 30 but i am afraid i won't get that far.

It's an outdated game, no atmosphere, bad customization and animations, everything feels disjointed. And implemented game systems like Labor Points that are nothing but a cash grab.

In it's current form. Good Luck TRION to try advertise this game as F2P here in Europe. They will get wrist slapped in no time by authorities.

I think you hit the nail on the head there.  There are so many people here that when they have a monetary investment in something, they tend to throw logic out the window.

I've also never been a fan of the whole "game gets great at x level" mantra.  Frankly, I find it utter rubbish.  It's just a bad design choice.   Toss it our lose customers.

I personally liked my 28 levels not sure what people expect from MMO's these days. I think people have an 'idea' for what they want but just hop from one game to another waiting for some magical game that does not exist yet.

Some of us neither have the time or desire to sit through 3.5 hours of tedium.

That is perfect example of power gaming. not all of us are into that. But even if i decide to sit for straight 4 hours the leveling still has to be fun till lvl 30.

For a guy like me who gets only weekend for gaming 4 hours can be very precious.

The amount of detail put into this game is ridiculous, The animations are very well done, the graphics are better than anything else currently out.

Are there glitches and bugs (graphically) for certain, is it finished? no. But to claim the animations and or graphics are outdated or bad, simply false.

The comments claiming this game feels like 2004 / outdated are mind blowing.

Its one thing to say that you dont like it, or its boring, or it simply isn't for you. But the comments claiming that it is outdated/poorly done, thats simply trolling.

Dont like a game, that I understand, but keep the claims within the realm of truth, or atleast near its borders please.

I spent 30 hours in the game, found it meh and went back to my property in Wurm.

The flight is cool and its nice to get into a different grind then I am used to but at the end of the day its to restrictive for me

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

    Why?

Was it because after 10 minutes you weren't level 50 with purple gear?

I got invited into the first closed beta and thoroughly enjoyed he game. I had an initial bit of "ACK!" with the ground arrows and stuff, but soon figured out how to disable that stuff and found I was having a lot of fun. I played about 18 hours over that 4 day period as I am fairly casual these days. I loved many aspects of the game, the fact that it actually felt like a world reminded me a lot of UO. Being able to activate street lamps, light and snuff out the candles, the fact that light draws bugs at night, rivers have current, the ability to swim underwater, create and sail ships, glide, no invisible walls, open world housing, etc.. I just love the world feel.

I was happy to be accepted to play in the second beta, enjoyed it even more, tried a lot of different class combos and fell for the combat/combo system. Again only sunk about 20 hours over the 4 days, but came out liking the game even more.

Scored a key from here for the third beta and sealed the deal, put in another 20 or so hours and got to experience much more of the game, love the crafting and trade runs, the pvp, sport fishing, etc... still finding lots of little fluff details that help make the world feel like a world, which goes a long way with me.

Coming out of the 3rd beta, I had zero doubt that I'll be playing this game for a good long time and subbing patron, so it was very worth it for me to purchase the Archeum Pack. The fact that I also get access to the Alpha is just gravy. Been playing Alpha for almost a week now and I just cannot wait for launch!

There's things I'd change. The game needs overland dynamic weather imo, that's a big thing on my list of wants. NPC's could use some movement and I would love to see general shops close at night and op in the day, things like that. But otherwise this game has so much to do that I am actually keeping a list for the first time since UO, of things I want to accomplish next session.

On a side note, the game grabbed me from minute one and I don't feel that anybody should have to give a game until level 30 for it to get good for them. Some folks will not like the game at all and they'll know it right away. Some will find the game meh, and some of those may see something in the game that drives them to press on and might eventually like it, might also end up feeling they wasted time. And then some will find what they're looking for in AA, what they've been craving. For me, It's the same with every game that comes out. I just wish as players we could converse about these things without getting ugly. Wishful thinking!

Don't understand all the fuss about this.

I did not even play the game. I just watched some gameplay vids and decided that this game is not worth my time.

Really... giant colored arrows showing you around, questmarkers almost as big as the NPCs and

obviously a community just as annoying as anywhere else.

Noone seems to give the idea of "having fun" and that it means something different for every player any importance anymore. image

People that complain about the first hour, you do realize that you are complaining about the single player experience , right?

The first hour is single player, so that means you never tried the mmorpg part of the game...

Here is a taste of the mmorpg part :)

    Cap level PvP video.

If the fun part of a mmo comes only when you reach cap level might as well remove the levelling part to begin with.

However, it eventually pays off and you can actually play and play well.

Apples and oranges, playing an instrument is a skill first and foremost, an instrument creates the entertainment, it's not the entertainment in and of itself. It's more akin to learning to design a game than actually playing a game, much like your other examples.

I had fun it it well before level 30 but I don't expect any game to be fun in the first ten levels at least because any game with some depth to it is going to take time to learn . Again "meh"is not a word used by intelligent mature adults its a word used for the most part by children and teens .Its a bit like an adult using "whatever" to describe disinterest in something . Usually as you grow up you stop using the kind of phrases you used in childhood and if you don't there is certainly something wrong with you because it means your incapable of maturing in the same normal manner that most people do .

How many adults do you see using "meh" ? very few because it makes them look stupid to other adults . I guess you and OP could still be in your teens where its perfectly acceptable to use it still because you are in the process of growing up but if you want people to take you seriously in years to come I would avoid using it .

I would argue that people who go through arduous tasks in Video games in order to be better are probably taking that attitude.

I would also argue that what this comes down to is the themepark vs sandbox argument (yet again) and that players who prefer sandbox games are usually on board with the bits and bobs and bits of tedium that come from gathering, crafting, selling and essentially doing what it takes to carve their way in the world. Whereas those who are looking for a more thempark experience are looking to just get on a fun ride "in the moment".
