Nintendo would be 2nd behind Sony for me. No one has done more for gaming than Sony and Nintendo.
Yeah Nintendo,Sony and Sega will always hold a special place in my gaming heart for the contributions they made and still make.
Growing up I was a die hard Sega fan. I had Sega Master System, Sega Genesis and would have had a Sega Saturn but when I went to the store to buy it all they had was Playstation and my friend who took me could get deals from the guy behind the counter so I got a deal on the Playstation that I could not refuse. Glad I did because the Saturn flopped hard. lol
I agree with Gaming Rocks. Best company for console systems for sure. For a gaming company. The top 3 on my list are Squaresoft, Koei, and EA. EA makes the list because they were at one time not the money hungry garbage they are now.
For me you have to give it to Blizzard. Not only have they developed games that were big hits, they maintained them for years, and they were financial successes for years still.
World of Warcraft - Top dog when it comes to MMOs for years now. We might not personally like it on these forums but we are obviously in the minority here.
Starcraft - A top strategy game for years, including the sequels.
Heroes of the Storm - Is probably the third best MOBA financially right now behind League and DOTA. Nothing to sneeze at when a million companies are trying to create things in this genre.
Hearthstone - Blew financial expectations out of the water.
Diablo - Don't get me started. D1 was fun. D2 was an all-time great. D3 sucked at first IN MY PERSONAL OPINION but it has fixed its issues and so many people are still playing this on console and PC.
Overwatch - Already know its going to be a hit.
What other company has made this many successful games in this many genres? Five years from now you will still have nice populations in Diablo, Starcraft, WoW, Heroes and Hearthstone. They are built for the long haul and they aren't just rereleasing the same game every year with updated stats.
LOL, Blizzard still has a ways to go. A Square excerpt!
Square was founded in Yokohama in September 1983 by Masashi Miyamoto after he graduated from Waseda, one of Japan's top universities. Back then, Square was a computer game software division of Den-Yu-Sha, a power line
construction company owned by Miyamoto's father. While at the time game
development was usually conducted by only one programmer, Miyamoto
believed that it would be more efficient to have graphic designers,
programmers and professional story writers working together on common
projects. Square's first two titles were The Death Trap and its sequel Will: The Death Trap II, both designed by part-time employee Hironobu Sakaguchi and released on the NEC PC-8801.[2]
Despite an initial reluctance to develop for video game consoles, Square entered the Nintendo Famicom market in December 1985 with the porting of Thexder.[2] In September 1986, Square spun off from Den-Yu-Sha and became an independent company officially named Square Co., Ltd.[3] Sakaguchi then became a full-time
employee as the Director of Planning and Development of the company.
After releasing several unsuccessful games for the Famicom, Square
relocated to Ueno, Tokyo in 1987 and developed a role-playing video game titled Final Fantasy, inspired by Enix's success with the genre, Dragon Quest (later released in North America as Dragon Warrior).[4] With 400,000 copies sold, Final Fantasy spawned multiple sequels over the years and became Square's main franchise.[2]
Square was one of the many companies that had planned to develop and publish their games for the Nintendo 64, but with the cheaper costs associated with developing games on CD based consoles such as the Sega Saturn and the Sony PlayStation, Square decided to develop titles for the latter system.[6]Final Fantasy VII was one of these games, and it sold 9.8 million copies, making it the second best selling game for the PlayStation.[4]
On July 9, 2008, Activision officially merged with Vivendi Games, culminating in the inclusion of the Blizzard brand name in the title of the resulting holding company.[6]
On July 25, 2013, Activision Blizzard announced the purchase of 429
million shares from majority owner Vivendi. As a result, Activision
Blizzard became a completely independent company.[7] Blizzard Entertainment offers events to meet players and to announce games: the BlizzCon in California, United States, and the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in other countries, including France, and South Korea.
But square has recently developed some flops where Blizzard has not. Even when Square had the chance to make a huge splash and appease so many people by finally remaking FF7 with new graphics, they are splitting it up into multiple purchases... They had to straight shut down Final Fantasy XIV to make it fun again.

Varking, Not apples and oranges my friend. Remember the OP's post. Greatest of all time. You answered your own question in part. Making a argument concerning Final Fantasy VII.. LOL, now thats funny!
So how long has Final Fantasy VII been popular? Better yet Final Fantasy. Those titles are popular and well known here. Just imagine in Asia. And exactly how old are they? Not going to go any further. I will let you figure out what was really said by your own commentary!

It is apples to apples. Yes, while Final Fantasy 7 sold 9.8 million copies it wasn't the most popular game on the console ever, and World of Warcraft not only sold more copies than that they also charged people 15 bucks a month to continue to play it and last check has over 5 million people still paying them to play it all these years later.
Square is an amazing company but they have had a bunch of misses when it comes to their games. It is LOL funny that the only argument you had for a rebuttal was mentioning FF7. Again, most of their games have not been renewed or reused in so long they are basically dead games. How many Final Fantasy side-games have there been that just sucked? How many Final Fantasy based movies with Squares name on it and they sucked? How was Ehrgeiz? How was the original FFXIV? This wasn't about the most popular video game developer, it was best.
Where many consider FF7 the best FF game ever, it sold 9.8 million copies. Blizzards most controversial release recently was Diablo 3 and it has sold over 12 million copies so even if you want to go off of popularity, they have them now.
If it was such a ROFL argument you wouldn't see so many different opinions in this thread. While you can debate who your favorite is, and Blizzard is not my favorite, you cannot debate that Blizzard has marketed and sold their games better, kept them updates, and kept people coming back to them better than Square. And we will soon see who helps develop better movies since the Warcraft movie will be out soon. And the Warcraft childrens books to go along with the Warcraft books.
While it is true Square initially sold 9.8 million copies at its release. How many millions have sold since then? I have both a PS3 and 4. Bought FF7 for my PS3, Along with 9(My second favorite). As well as Chrono Cross/ Chrono Trigger. Just in the past few years.
While Square may have had some flops. They still are a prominent company after 40 years. Many of us still play games by them that are over 30 years old. Do not get me wrong. I am a Blizzard fan. But as for the OP. My picks are between Square and EA.
Of course I have my favorite companies. Bungie is one of them. But will Bungie make the list? They have been highly successful. The OP did not ask which gaming company is the " Most successful". Rather which company is the "Best" gaming company.
So, as far as Square goes. They still hold a huge following after 40 years(Especially in Asia). I cannot think of many people who have not played a Square game.
While Blizzard has never really made a bad title. They have made profit for every title they released. They are among my top 5. But no other company has had more of a influence among the gaming industry than Square. Long long before companies were making WOW clones. Thousands of other companies were making Square game clones!
To this day. Gaming companies still follow the Square anime, design and game play in the titles they create!
Just AWESOME , funny!! I am in a sadistic mood tonight. My guild lost a very good keep in DAOC. So I am a bit disgruntled.
Now have to set up a sched to take it back! They will once again see the PURE AWESOMENESS of my OP, LEET DAOC toon.. Well not exactly me! But at least the guy in front that im hiding behind!
Blizzard gets my vote. They have lead the race and been the standard for all other games.
Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Warcraft RTS, Hearthstone, etc. I would even go as far to say that if it wasn't for Blizzard, MOBA's never would have been discovered.
Now, this is old Blizzard. Their recent releases have been crappier versions of their former selves and they no longer are setting the standard. They are riding off the success of what they have done, rather than what they are doing. Diablo3, Starcraft2, WOW expansions, Overwatch, while solid games in design, are shallow experiences across the board. Blizzard has turned into a marketing team releasing games, rather than gamers releasing games.
Still, despite their issues. I vote them above anyone else.
As much as I am mad at 343 studios from removing split screen from Halo 5. IMO what they did with Halo 1-4 stand out as the most fun I have had gaming. Playing Halo parties on split screen has been the best of the best.
I was a Playstation gamer till one night I went to a friends house to play Halo #1. After a few hours of pure gaming joy I was out the next day buying an Xbox and Halo. Sadly Xbox One maybe the last Microsoft console I buy after the removal of Split screen from Halo 5.

This is sort of an impossible question as what makes a developer great can mean different things to people; one person might value customer support or how well the developer listened to the community, efforts to supporting future content, how they handle cheating or abuse in games (even gold sellers.) Overall I think Blizzard is a strong company and because of the sheer size of their player base on all of their games, it is impossible for them to be the best at everything but they make a descent effort at all points. I really like the developers behind Ark: Survival Evolved, the game released and has constantly push more and more content to add to the life of the game and even went to the extend of releasing a spin-off game mode that is free to play to anyone (Ark Survival of the Fittest) much like DOTA 2 however Ark has 5 developers (companies, not people) so kind of biased. Bungie is extremely overrated as a company, you can't deny Halo was an awesome series and had a massive impact on the gaming industry however nearly every decision made regarding Destiny has been a complete disaster (I can not believe they put micro transactions in a retail game AFTER launch, this is a slap to the face for anyone who bought the game and is purely for greed. Needless to say there are tons of developers that are good, bad, and some that are great but there will never be a "best"

Ah, that's a shame. I wonder why they would remove the split screen. I guess they want to brute-force people into using their online service. It wouldn't surprise me since they have worked so hard to push the online initiative with X1.
TBH, the only reason I enjoyed the Halo games at all was the split-screen. Quite frankly, the games themselves were nothing special. They weren't even fun to play alone, at all, imo. But, they were excellent fun for a split-screen session.
Generally speaking, I preferred the gameplay of Gears over them, though.

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. is an American video game developer and publisher founded February 8, 1991, under the name Silicon & Synapse by three graduates of the University of California, Los Angeles,[4] Michael Morhaime, Frank Pearce, and Allen Adham and is currently a subsidiary of American company Activision Blizzard. In 1994 the company became Chaos Studios then Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. after being acquired by distributor Davidson & Associates.
Shortly thereafter, Blizzard shipped out what would become their first breakthrough smash hit Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. Blizzard then went on to create several other successful video games, including other Warcraft sequels, the Diablo series, the StarCraft series, and also in 2004 the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft. Their most recent projects include: the first expansion for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, the online collectible card game Hearthstone, the fifth expansion for World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, the "Hero Brawler" Heroes of the Storm and the third and final expansion for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void. There are two titles that are currently in development: Overwatch, an upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter first announced at BlizzCon on November 7, 2014 that entered beta testing in the third quarter of 2015 and the sixth expansion for World of Warcraft: Legion. It was announced on August 6, 2015 at Gamescom 2015 and its beta testing phase is upcoming in 2016.[5]
