Chris Roberts interview, October 19th 2012 AD

You have stated that you expect to have an Alpha up and going in about 12 months, with a beta roughly 10 months after that and then launch. For a game of this size and scope, do you think you can really be done in the next two years?

Really it is all about constant iteration from launch. The whole idea is to be constantly updating. It isn’t like the old days where you had to have everything and the kitchen sink in at launch because you weren’t going to come back to it for awhile. We’re already one year in - another two years puts us at 3 total which is ideal. Any more and things would begin to get stale.

****Erillion likes to gloss over that statement made by Chris or try and justify it by saying it's not really game dev time since the studio didn't exist yet*****

    Same source quoted above:

"Chris: Basically I’ve been working with a small team over the course of the past year to get the early prototyping and production done. The team has varied in scale from just me, essentially, to about 10 people. That’s just the actual work though. "

Over the course of the past year =   Over the course of 2012.

"Just me" = until April 2012, when CIG was founded. Then the rest of the team joined.
If you count "Just me", than you basically have to fill in 5th March 2003 as the start date.
One day after Freelancer was launched. Since then Chris Roberts is planning Star Citizen.

Funny that you only quote one answer from that interview mentioned above, but not the other.

The founding date of CIG is a hard, verifyable date.

The two quotes from that interview mentioned aove leave room for interpretation. Is it "one year in" or "over the course of the past year (2012)" ?

    Have fun

Now you are trying to make a year sound like 4 months?

Hurray for another war about dates that change nothing on the present! The Drama-llama must go on!

And who drew attention and made a deal out of the 5 year comment?

Crying about the discussion going in a direction you don't like will not change anything...

    Nice argument.
There is no argument when you're discussing with walls of bias, you'd be not worth the waste of time. Is it preferable repeating the same things like a macro for years and years as some people have been doing?
It gets better. Someone necroed the Star Marine topic after so many months and made a "fresh" thread prompting people to speculate.

Hey, you're the one crying and handwringing over the topic direction and yet here you are participating in it. Just suck it up already.

RSI and CIG were founded in 2010 according to the sometimes reliable wikipedia:

    Quote
"The company's origins are traced as far back as the launch of Roberts Space Industries in 2010. It was founded by Chris Roberts, together with his business partner and long-time international media attorney Ortwin Freyermuth, to work on a new game."

I'm guessing that he launched the crowdfunding in 2012 due to either being unable to get a major label involved or deciding to go it alone and raise his own capital.

    PS:
You will find that most dates given in Wiki entries have no information source attached and those THAT have a source attached do link to the source above, which lists the founding date as April 2012.

, no where were these things mentioned in the SC lexicon until Elite Dangerous was released
Nowhere ?  You call 1 year 5 months in advance a "not mentioned" ?

    --> 41 M$ Stretch Goal ..... achieved 31st March 2014

E:D Horizon Expansion with PG airless planets and moons was announced on August 5, 2015 at Gamescom. Before that E:D only used PG to generate systems (NOT planets, NOT moons). You could not land on any planetary bodies.

    Have fun

So E:D was able to do it faster and more then likely cheaper then what SC can do? So you're saying SC is incompetent in comparison?
Yes but CIG is suppose to be doing it with much more detail and better enhancements.  That is yet to be seen.
Are you onto something or just on something?

Ah but it isn't released yet so i can continue talking about empty promises right up until it releases, yay for vapid statements! Followed by years of 'yeah but they did it badly, games trash'. yawn.

So after all of this hype and all of the people talking about how great it is.  We still haven't seen anything better then Elite has already delivered over a year ago.
