Yay! You said "to me" at the end of your post! Thank you for helping along actual fun discussion, instead of contributing to all the chest thumping!
I'm glad that you've found an MMO that fits what you were looking for that you're having a lot of fun playing. I think MMOs are a really great type of game, and it rocks when you find one you really like.
Currently for me, City of Villains is my favorite MMO. I'm having a great time playing it, especially now that issue 7 is out. I played WoW for a long time, had a lot of fun, and made some great friends. I think WoW has some features that do really make it stand out among MMOs. The controls are *great*.. it's the first MMO I played where running around the game world felt as fluid and easy to control as an FPS. Too many MMOs feel stiff and akward as far as the movement controls go. I think they did a great job making the game look pretty without requiring a real high end system for the graphics, too. Some of their instance designs are really nice.. I especially enjoyed the Scarlet Monastery, the Scarlet side of Strathmore, and Zul 'Gurub! Good times in all those places.
I personally don't care for the focus on 40 person raiding and the endless gear progression at 60th level, so I ended up moving on. I have a good friend who loves raiding, and he's still having a blast going to Blackwing Lair. Different strokes for different folks

WoW does have it's problems, and I haven't played it in many months.
However, I would have to agree with the title of this thread. As far as MMOs out right now, I'd say it's probably the best made. It's set a high standard for the genre and that means things can only get better.

Wow is not the best. Progress Quest is, because I can grind 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without having to be at my keyboard

So things can only get better as far as lets say not having to think when you play a MMo.. quests that guide you where to go what to do arrows you follow... right... what ever happened to the game.. where you go out there and you dont really know what your doing, and you actually have to think about it.. has that been long gone in games.. ?
when i first played everquest 1 and daoc it was like that.. you get sent to a noobie zone not really knowing what to do.. its the excitement of playing the game, the unknown.. thats the fun part.. and now games have gone way like wow and everquest 2 where they tell you what to do.. your on a noobe island... following lines on a map to a quest guy... pointed in the right directon to where you dont think you just following a line do what a npc says..
sure both games have great aspect of them... like wow... its pretty i really liked the graphics in it.. you can see your footsteps in the snow.. the trees moving.. like you were there... what i didnt really like was waiting in a que for 15 to 20 minutes waiting to play a game i am paying for monthly...
with everquest 2 it was ok.. i got thazt game cause i played 1 and wanted to see how this was... nice grapics and all but thats it...
since then i went back to daoc.. and not really play any games as much like i used to.. dont even go to raids after leading them in daoc for a while it got really old.. so now i just play when i wanna play.. and relax.. thats what a game is for anyway... sure not to many play like in the old days.. but i play daoc to talk ot my friends as well, and that game will also hold special memoriies for me..
Playing daoc and loving it totally.. have Played Eq,Eq2,WoW,Coh,Cov, and other.. which i have forgotten..
There's a HUGE difference between the best and the most popular MMORPG.
Nobody can deny that WOW is the most popular MMORPG around.
If you belive WOW is the best then good for you, go play some more and enjoy yourself. That I don't agree dosn't mean that its a bad game. Its just shows that best is something that is defined by the individual and that WOW dosn't live up to what I demand from a MMORPG.
WoW is on top right now, but the real question is will they stay on top? Who knows. There was a time nobody thought you could get any bigger than EQ, but it happened. WoW quest system isn't the best by far as it would be really hard to put a storyline behind quests involing getting 20 yeti furs. The endgame is truly what it says the end of the game as all that's left is PvP or raids nothing more. Also it seems rather arrogant of Blizzard to be charging the same amount for the expansion as they did for the original game. The game holds to an old addage of 'the best equipment wins" something I'm noticing alot of the new MMO's in development getting away from. And that is encouraging. If you love WoW play WoW if you don't move on. I myself am moving on.
The comment above goes to show you that a name(of a company or franchise) can sell a game :P
I didn't even bother to get deep into WoW with a 2nd character. I'd just have to do the exact same quests again and that'd probably drive me nuts. An MMO should have different quests for each class with the occasional dungeon quests which are self-explanitory.
really? the best? really? thats kinda sad...i played World of Grindcraft...definetly NOT the best mmorpg. I mean, of course its opinion, but don't try to fool anyone pretending that you've played EVERY single mmorpg ever because, thats well near impossible. It's like telling your girlfriend shes the prettiest girl in the world...it may be true but you will never know, because you can never meet every single girl. I've had my share of mmorpg's. I played the most popular and some of the NOT so popular, and to tell you the truth, some of the not so popular are better than the popular XD. I digress. The bottom line is IMHO WoW is one of the worst I've played. I am even surprised so many people play it....My question is why would you play a game that is so...uninspired. And you know Blizzard just made it a grind so that you would have to pay a longer fee (for every month). Saying WoW is the best MMORPG is so foolish and immature and not to mention subjective, because I'm postitive I'm not the only one who thinks like this...

and I take it, Blaze323blabla is going to tell us all what the best MMORPG is? "Blizzard made it a grind" I thought you said you had your fair share of mmorpg's? you really should have known that EVERY mmorpg is a grind.
In my opinion WoW, EQ2, and FFXI are all tied for the best in quality. WoW is the most Popular by far...Will it stay that way? No. No game does. WoW may or may not be as big as it is right now, for a year or 2 more...maybe. But they don't really do much to keep interest flowing so once its hype is completely gone it will be downsized and most people will go to the next generation MMO's such as Vanguard, HJ, Endless Saga..etc thats my opinion anyway.
I think pizza is the best fastfood in the world. Anyone who do not like pizza is an incompetent dork without any knowledge whatsoever. Yup, that must be true, because I am smart, and I like pizza.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force"
I love how earlyer, the op compared WoW to FFXI. Thats like me going downstares and asking myself "I wonder what is better, this Picture Frame, or this Book shelf. hmmm" i mean honestly lol, you can't compare the two.
~I am going to rule the world someday, I promiseness ~
People like WoW because they do not know alternative.. yet In time, with new games, the population will be able to create a better knowledge base of what an MMORPG really needs by expanding. With the knowledge they gained from the larger library of titles in the future, they'll see that WoW is hardly the game they believed it was. I recall somewhere seeing that WoW has attracted so many new people to the MMO genre. Well, there is no denying that it must be a considerably good game to do so, but all those new people do not know any other MMOs.
The MMORPG genre is hardly a decade old, with in all actualization a very limited amount of games. Time will tell how it happens with newer games.

Vanguard is not a next generation mmo. in fact, its just Everquest all over again. the only games that will look like they will be next generation are Aion and Age of conan. the rest will either be a clone of everquest, a clone of Ultima Online and some of them won't even be released at all.
WoW is good up until 60 and then becomes boring. My major complaint about the game is there is hardly any diversity. They should add more classes in the expansion not races. (ooo now I can have a Blood Elf Warlock instead of an Undead Warlock...yippie)

WoW will never have good PvP...they've already thrown their system all out of wack. If you want good PvP, you'll just have to wait till Warhammer Online comes out. Plain and simple.

Everyone making comparisons with McDonalds isn't really making much sense. It's the old argument of popular being bad, quote the McDonalds argument. The difference is, while McDonalds is popular, most people partaking of it admit it's shit. I'm not sure this is the case with WoW. Second, you won't find a professional reviewer of restaurants giving a good review to McDonalds, pretty much every magazine game a great review of WoW.
So, while WoW may or may not be your thing, the McDonalds analogy is a complete waste of time and doesn't make much sense no matter how much you may wish it to.
Ok you moronic WoW lovers need to stop using WoW reviews as some sort of justification that Warcraft is a top-notch MMO. It isn't. All of the reviews for World of Warcraft were made when the game first came out. In other words, anyone who played and reviewed the game didn't play post-60 WoW. They only played the 1-59 version of WoW. This, and only this, is what is fun about this MMO. After that, the game (if it can even be called that) becomes an incredible chore. There is a reason why so many people refer to WoW as a second job. Endgame raiding is so dull and time consuming that it feels more like work than play. Secondly, any review site or magazine would be stupid to give WoW a bad score, even if the reviewer truly did hate the game. All of you blind fanboys are a testament to that, because if any review site had the balls to give World of Warcraft the score it deserves (something below 7), then the fanatical idiots who defend the game to the death would immediately hate whichever publication gave such a score. Magazines and review sites are smart enough to know that Blizzard has a fanatical following, and that they'd get more money praising a crappy game like WoW than flaming it, since most "gamers" will agree with the review and therefore continue purchasing the magazine or continue visiting the website. Only on sites such as MMORPG.com can you get an accurate gauge of what the games actually deserve, since there is no money to be made in giving high scores.
