If the graphics are so realistic, why does he face look like it was painted on?

Why is his Gladius hanging of his armour by the pommel? Whats keeping the scabbard on, Magic?

It looks good next to a screenshot of R:TW? Well duh ones a fucking RTS with 10,000 men or so on the battlefield at once and ones a MMORPG which likely couldn't cope with 2 Rome average size units clashing (80).

That fact it doesn't look much better, infact their pretty much even. Shows something is wrong, least the Rome Total War guy has a scabbard actually attached to his body.

Also that happens to be a screenshot from a fan made mod, not the actual game.

You want to make a point post the damm picture next to screenshots of current MMORPGs.

Don't claim "Most Realistic MMORPG" when comparing it with a sodding RTS.

Also for the schmuck who  trolled me, well duh of course I buy a PC game REVIEW magazine for advice on what to buy...

No graphics are going to be perfect. The point is, the Roma Victor graphics are much more realistic overall.

Start posting some links to other MMOGs to backup what you write, xanrn

Nice. Now everyone here can see your character.

The death of the independent is tied directly to the quality of the product said independent makes. What we say about your pre-alpha state masterpiece may well contribute to RB going down the gurgler, but at the end of the day they have nobody but themselves to blame, just like any other business that releases quarter-built crap and consequently goes bankrupt.

Yes, I'm here for amusement too. Video games are supposed to amusements, aren't they? They're entertainment after all.

Well since its attention this fanboy wants suggest folks all go vote on the rating board.Maybe that will shut him up.

But like others said if you got a fanboy like sempiternal why do you need haters. He is doing a good enough job scaring people away from the game.

And imagine if those 2 Sempiternals invited you to join their hardcore RP guild~!  You could spend your time cavorting with a guildful of Sempiternals in ancient Rome.

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

First I don't care if I "beat you" your words not mine.  I'm pointing out the fact that features that should be present at launch were not.  Yes you could choose things but they were rarely reflected on your toon, instead the message that they will be reflected at a later date.

I pointed out the fact that redbedlam released a game in basically alpha stages, most likely to raise much needed funds.  Further I'm not the only one to find your review biased, check the other post your flaming about a milllion other people over the same point.

As far as realistic graphics I guess thats in the eye of the beholder, but to me these graphics are not what i would consider realistic.   You  continuously show a close up of one particular person, what about the dull flat landscape or for example the water that at the edge is actually higher than the land that it should be intersecting, how is that water held in place.  There must be some invisible wall because when I would get close to the water it clearly wasn't touching the bank.  Why is the water simply a solid blue color no movement no ripples, nothing.  How bout the trees that were basically two 2d images crossed to form a "3d" tree.  These graphic workarounds were passable in the 90's but my god its 2006.

I'm not asking for Oblivian quality graphics but realistic terrain, the world isn't completely flat after all.  Varied terrain is really necessary for me to consider something realistic.  If you want a comparison of MMO graphics that are more realistic check out the landscape in Vanguard.  Its set in a fantasy setting but if you see a mountain in the distance its there because you could travel to it and climb it, the terrain is varied the objects look like what they are.  The mountains in RV are simply a dull 2d image in the background, you can never reach them no matter how far you run.  These things may seem small to some but if you're going to play the realism card, that to me equates to realism, an environment that draws you into the area seemlessly.

Comparing the images of a RTS to a MMO is apples and oranges and really isn't a fair comparison, as others have said that one solider in a RTS is one of thousands and to me its still a better representation of a human being.  Put a model from Vanguard up against that same model from RV and then decide if its a better representation of a human being, I'm banking that pretty much everyone will agree which has the better toon models and I doubt its RV.

I honestly hope that RV becomes a finished product one day other than the few such as yourself I met some really cool people in my few weeks playing and they were one of the only reasons I continued to log in.  I'll give the community credit in that many are really trying to pull together and make something really cool out of the sandbox that they've been given.  Most however that I met agreed with the problems that I've stated as well as many other problems, they were just willing to overlook the dated graphics, technical issues and various other problems because they wanted a user built world type of game and there are slim pickens in that area.

If you want a world simulator with real life graphics, stand up and go outside.  FFS, these graphics suck worse then some of the old Might and Magic games from 10 years ago.

Big problem is this is a very flawed and badly designed world simulator, lets end this topic.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

The water issue was fixed a few weeks ago. The old water used to move but it looked like you were on the seaside and were watching the tide coming in...almost got sea sick looking at it .

I thought that odd with the trees also. It seems like some are 2D and others are 3D. I know the ones in Corst are 3D but the ones in Erring are 2D, at least some are.

I guess I could argue that RB isn't trying to make a toon but a RL looking character, but I won't go there.

Real life character - such as Joseph Merrick?

  • PantasticPantastic Member Posts: 1,204

I find the R:TW graphics better, actually. While they're not as detailed (kind of expected when, as people have pointed out, one game puts several times more models on the screen at once), they're more consistent overall. The R:TW guy has the same lighting and detail levels all over, while the RV guy looks like his shield, face, armor, and sword are all grafted together from different engines. This makes me say 'I'm looking at computer graphics' far more than a consistent style does, though obviously people will have different opinions.

looking at my computer makes my say I am looking at computer graphics

not making fun of you just saying that the fact that you are tapping a keyboard and moving a mouse will never make you forget it is a game and will stop you from getting fully into it.

Just trying to throw in some humor, don't flame me

I hate to admit it, but I just read that small roundhouse entry....and about a dozen or so other entries, and I'm tempted to play just to build a bunch of stuff, maybe charge people to build something they can tear down for the halibut:)

wurmonline is worth a look,  and isn't doomed.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

I think most MMOGs are shit.

A more accurate way to describe RV is that it's a beta that was released too early, but at least it's heading in the right direction, even if slowly.

It's not your typical cartoonish rainbow colored pretty mass-market piece of crap MMOG designed to keep the attention of pimply teenagers and the superficial for a few months and siphon as much money from their parents as possible in that short time.  And, that is why I would estimate 90% of posters on any MMOG site would call RV "shit" simply because of it's unfinished state - 90% of posters are pimply teenagers or superficial MMOG gamers looking for their next mass marketed cartoon to play with "excellent" cartoonish graphics and tons of quests and NPC content to keep them busy and hold their hands through wasting their time.

RV needs work, but as long as RV does not give in to the "kids" here calling it shit and end up following the canned MMOG design of most "shitty" MMOG games, but rather continues developing a historically authentic virtual world instead, it's the only MMOG I see worthwhile playing; especially with no monthly fee.

Nice try RV developer to try to bring attention back to your crappy game by necromancing this thread.. But it was crap back in September and most likely is still crap today.

    ------------------------------
You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
