and there are tones of asian mmorpg which have the same thing like maple story which people seemed to have a bunch of player too.
I'm pretty sure everyone wants to play in SAO, log horizon, or dot hack. But not everyone have that great of imagination.

Globally probably more, I think maybe places like India have potential to grow exponentially for mmorpg.
China is a good example, just from the pure number of people living in China you know their mmorpg population is going to be huge.
What Blizzard did is brought in a bunch new players and mainstreamed mmorpg.
We all know the best selling mmorpg is... Destiny (which isn't a mmorpg per sey).
