Yeah, I love Massively but they're really beginning to lose focus. Might as well just fold them back in to Joystiq as it's massively-in-name-only at this point.

In retrospect my thread title is to blame for that. I could have worded it better.

Since the 1980s, headset based virtual reality/3D has proven a dismal failure. Oculus will be no different. It's a technological dead end that will be featured in a "Whatever Happened To" article in the future.
3D/virtual reality will only really c…

D&D players have had the worst reputation of any gamers ever. If you played D&D back in the '80s, you were consi…
Allods Online recently launched a subscription server, so we can watch that with interest to see how the world's first f2p-to-p2p conversion performs. My prediction on that one is it will not be very successful and Allods will continue to be the irr…
The "team only" advocates really don't have a leg to stand on here. The "team only" MMO model died way back in 2004 with the launch of World of Warcraft, which to this day is still the single-most successful MMO on the market, and it's very solo-fri…
lol Of course you're bored! This is a modern MMO and you've been playing a whole month! Why wouldn't you be bored? This is what this genre has come to.
If you think asshats don't have $15 a month to spend, you're greatly mistaken.
F2P LOTRO has one of the best communities in MMO history. Subscription WoW...doesn't. This fact alone disproves the idea that subscriptions are some kind of community qu…
Your assertion is falsified by every PvP centric MMO ever made. And in fact, by making your MMO PvP centric, you've limited your title to a small minority of potential players. MMO players in general are carebear (maybe with a bit of PvP thrown in n…
"Because roleplaying" is a very nihilistic argument. It can be used to justify removing any mechanic from the game. This must be a game first and foremost, and if there is no structure (structure = limitations) then there is no game.
And I agree…
City of Heroes was chugging along nicely, but once Champions Online came out, they ended up splitting the same audience and it was pretty much shown there is no real market for super hero MMOs. Champions Online also would have closed years ago if no…
I'll say this for Rift: it has the best password policy I've even seen for an MMORPG. They allow up to 512 characters, numbers, letters and symbols. No one else does this as far as I've seen, and there's no good reason not to.
