Doesn't stating your playing the beta while NDA is in effect violate the NDA? Anywho, Vanguard looks like an EQ clone. However Darkfall Online will bring all MMOs to shame =)

well a fanboy made the post and asked what I thought about it now so I dug up the old zip file unzipped it and logged in and within 5 minutes found these two graphical problems

where this guys feet kept sinking into the ground and his sword animation was swinging at shoulder height not even coming close to the target

then this one of the girl floating three feet off the ground

this was in the first 5 minutes of entering the game

notice the 17.1 FPS average? That was with a light server load on this machine

which gets 50 FPS in EQII with most settings maxxed. So to make a long story short  I don't think this game is ready for release or worth 15 dollars a month. FLoating avatars and poor performance was acceptable 3 months ago but a week from release it just does not cut it.

Want me to post something positive? Ok I just bought a new Samsung 22" widescreen monitor today and I ma postive that games other than Vanguard will look fantastic on it. I wait till the free ten day trial before I try Vanguard on it, or maybe the second since I doubt they will have everything fixed before they offer the first one.

EQ2 is over 2 years old. Try running R6:Vegas, Armed Assault et al and get back to me. Next gen games require next gen PCs. That's it, thats all!

LOL a e6600 running overclocked at 3.4 Mhz, 2 gigs DDR2 @ 900+ Mhz, and a 7900GT that clocks clocks 5900 + in 3DMArk 06 is not next gen enough? damn I might just have to stick to Pacman LOL. The funny part is EQII looks better with less jaggies, people don't sdink into the ground it has smoother play and better animations. Damn those old games ROFL

so.. these next generation games which require next generation pcs in order to play them... the graphics ARE incredibly better than the current games correct?   i mean, it's not just because of incredibly poor programming that the games REQUIRES tons more in order to play it, now is it?  if so...

then that definitely rates a 7 out of 7

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I got in this "beta" but really i think they are pushing for release a little bit too much, I'm getting crashes 2 in hour, bugs I reported 8 today and that was worst i have seen, diplomacy is time sink as you need to look for all NPC around :(, crafting was interesting but i was unable to find resources near high elf  capital to start it ! No animals i can skin :( etc etc ...

If anyone of you have idea with programing they will know that all this "patching" cannot be tested and will in end produce 1st free month full of bugged experience and people will leave .. when all will get patched game will already be half dead and people will be playing some more stable and less "advanced" game ...

I was thinking to buy it as i entered beta but now ... if i go in now when all is "patching" it promise to ruin this little time i have to play and if i dont get in now i will be left with empty starting areas and will get in already established guilds where a game will lost it "exploration" and new land feel ...

Of course after  i played EQ and SWG not that i like SOE too much nobody normal will not like them but at last if game was well polished and ready to relase to show some profesionality :(

AoC is totally overhyped. The different ways of swinging are just 6 different attacks. That's right. You can't swing ANYWHERE you want, just 6 different ways. Oh and dodge and block is determined by skills...  So yeah, the real combat system is BS. WoW with 6 different ways of auto-attacking. Of course in PvP everyone will just use the swing that maximizes area effected because otherwise they'll miss due to lag. I read all about their revolutionary combat system and laughed. It still uses numbers for hitting, parrying and everything.  At best they re-invented the wheel. I've watched the videos, I have yet to see ANYTHING that makes it so special.

Not to mention the game until level 20 is 100% solo. This of course will make people bitch and moan until they can just skip it with thier alts. How do you want to bet that it's designed to take a casual player roughly a month to complete?

The PvP in this game is a joke. It's all instanced, even player cities and stuff are instanced. OMG you razed a city to the ground but nobady can see it because it's in an instance.

Tits and blood do not a good RPG make.

Vanguard was also overhyped, but latest patch has made some nice improvements. It's pretty fun, just wish I wouldn't do an animation on every tic of my healing buff/HoT and that my hammer (rare quality I think) actually had a model. The game isn't ready but it is quite fun. If the next patch can fix some more quest bugs and actually give my cleric a model for his weapon (only weapon I've seen without one) and fix the animation playing everytime these healing abilitites tic I'll pre-order for teh headstart. Otherwise I'll know that if these very obvious things aren't fixed I should wait a couple weeks more.

EDIT: before someone says it I know Vanguard hasn't done anything terribly new and special either.
  • kano71kano71 Member Posts: 207
needing specs that  high will make the game  have a small core of players for sure. which i guess is fine  but age of conan looks  better  soo ill pass till then maybe vanguard will be ok after a year  like  eq2  took to become playable. course by then  its so called innovations will  be old.

I am of the camp that believes that MMORPGs do not need to have something different to make them better. I would much prefer that they make the existing mechanics more polished. Although I only played WoW for less than a month because I preferred EQII I have to admit that Blizzard Entertainment believes in living up to the second word in their title. I have been following a thread on another forum describing the Burning Crusade and those boys at Blizzard can write a helluva quest.

    heres a snip

    quote

Oh, one amusing quest I've saw, was some goblin had lost the keys to his shredder, so he asked me to take his felpuppy that was biting him for a walk, and feed it some boars, allow it to do it's "business" and then sift through it's poo for the keys :P. I found that amusing.. I'm like some heroic paladin, reduced to sifting through poo! :P.

    /quote

I spit coffee all over my desk when I read that the other morning. Standard go here do that collect this quest but darn that was funny. Anyway you want something different go try Ryzom, it definitely brought some new things to the genre. I did not care for it myself but

    /shrug

Somewhere along the line a lot of MMO developers seem to forgot that a game should be fun.

    I miss DAoC

OMG SPOILERS DON"T READ IF YOU"RE ONE OF THOSE SENSITIVE FOLKS.

There are fun quests in vanguard....

I had to help a mage out. He wanted someone to help him mine and do chores around his tower so he tells you to go knock out (ie kill in game sense) a dwarf and bring him back in a sack. You do it and he send you on another little errand and you come back and the dwarf hasn't worked out so you have to throw the dwarf in a sack off a nearby bridge... This follows suit with a halfling and high elf, the stories are pretty entertaining. Then they come back as zombies so you go kill the zombie versions put THEM in a sack and bring the back so the mage can be happy with his now undead minions. At the same time as this I was cutting off bandit arms with an NPC supplied saw (sound effects included).

There have been other fun and interesting ones too. That is just the best and most recent example. That quest is around level 12-13.

Something that they have done extremely well is healing classes. All of them are very fun to play. In a group situation you'll want them right in the action as their finishers and chains can lead to combos and also often heavily debuff enemies.

What makes you think the servers they are using now aren't release servers?  The servers come down in 3 days and the game launches in 7.  The servers they are using now would be what they are gonna use during release.  Yes we may see more patching that may improve the game a bit.  Your living in a fantasy world if you think the game is gonna be significantly different in 7 days then it is today.

The game runs like poo on my machine but I have a old machine.  Most gamers are not gonna be able to run this at any acceptable level.  I think the 150k-200k+ numbers people throw about is funny.

I have been playing open beta since day one salivating at the thought of a game that takes me back to days of EQ1. A game that will prove a challenge. Played EQ2 at start up and heard everyone bitch its to hard. I loved eq2 at start up. Its way to easy now. Even logged back on to my toons in eq1 every now and them but found out I forgot how to play. Played WOW three different times and quit, way to boring to me and tradeskills absolutlely suck. Played DAOC for about 6 months, thought the mounting of mobs heads on the wall of my house was GREAT ! Bottom line is Im playing Vanguard. Im having a blast in Beta and the patches are coming fast and furious. I have been in alot of Betas and every one had problems. I remember the DOF expansion in eq2 when everyone that had buffs from old game logged in the server crashed. Gonna build a new comp for Vanguard but having fun on my old machine just the same. See ya in game!!!

I found that amusing.. I'm like some heroic paladin, reduced to sifting through poo! :P.

Thats retarded jack i can see why vanguard doesn't appeal to you now

Hey it beats the heck out of kill 5 wolves and bring me their ears for some good old wolf ear soup. anyway it fits WoWs overall ambience, which is what I did not like about WoW. Still gotta give credit where credit is due and that is definitly not a run of he mill quest LOL

by the way if you want to quote me quote me in context

I have been following a thread on another forum describing the Burning Crusade and those boys at Blizzard can write a helluva quest.

I spit coffee all over my desk when I read that the other morning. Standard go here do that collect this quest but darn that was funny. Anyway you want something different go try Ryzom, it definitely brought some new things to the genre. I did not care for it myself but

Somewhere along the line a lot of MMO developers seem to forgot that a game should be fun.

After patch I figured I log in and see if they got rid of horrible animations, crappy spell effects and dead looking characters. Nope still there and the game is still a piece of crap. Stay away from this amateur game, bad coding, bad graphics, Sorry dont like the graphics something not right about it even turned all on highest settings. Oh well, back to WOW, Guild Wars and awaiting an actual professionally coded MMO from a professional company. Sigil is not it.  I had some high hopes but I cannot play this game, its boring actually, it lacks life and immersiveness, maybe if my character didnt look retarded and dead (they all look lifeless).

What games are you looking at? I dont see any that offer more but hey the good thing is maybe you will be happy and move on.

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.
