I don't mind stopping. I am just responding to other posts on the topic. My posts actually are not that long. It is just the format I am using that makes it look that way. That post he had made was huge!

ok I just had to reply to this. Ok first off no matter how good console get they will never have the power a PC has. So MMORPG will always be on the computer as well. Second 99% of all MMORPG that will come out will be on the PC first. Which means you guys get the scraps. Yes a few MMORPG will be on the console and only for the Console system. Other then sports games and some driving games and maybe fighting games theres no point in playing on a console system. What you think that the guys who play Halo on the xbox could go head to head with guys on PC. Man you guys would get blasted in to another galaxy. Theres a reason that console FPS cant play against the guys on PC its not from lack of being able to allow it. Its the fact that Console players would get torn apart to the point were they wont even play any more.
Even a some of the older systems out there can handle the CG that are out. If you slapped L2 or WOW on to Playstation or Xbox they would smoke in a heart beat cause they couldnt handle the graphics. That fact is Console are for players who either one cant afford a computer or two players who do have one and have consoles mainly for sports and fighting games.
You say that MMORPG are going to do well on Console well EQ being the only one out on Console that im aware of at the moment was a complete flop. O and by the way 99% of the MMORPG players out there if given a choice between playing on PC or console they would pick the PC. Console will never have the ability to deal with the same graphics that the PC are capable of. FFX was origanally built for Console and EQ was redesigned for Conosle why because they have to tone down the graphics because they cant handle the same things as a PC. Its pure and simple.
You talk about the requirements for MMORPG are becoming higher and higher and that players will turn to Console cause they wont be able to handle it. Have you lost your frigen mind. Most of these people that MMORPG shell out loads of money just to keep there PC current with the market. I do I spend at least 500 dollars or more a year just to keep my system well above the spec requirements for most PC games coming out. So your fooling your self if you think PC gamers are suddenly going to quit playing on the PC and games will come out more on conosle then on PC. The fact is that most of the games like FPS or MMORPG or RTS come out on the PC first except for a few. again like said you guys get most of the scrap games that have been out on PC for a while and some you will never see on Console (i.e. Diablo 2)
Any way im done with this topic man I hate retards. Yes console will all ways be around and yes they will have MMORPG that come out and some just for the console. They will have FPS and they to will get some that are only for Console but in no way are PC in any danger or losing games. Fact is PC are much much more powerful then Console and they always will be. Your just deluded probably dont even have a computer and are mad cause you cant get your hands on one. Ok im done flaming you bye bye now.
OK, most of your stuff there is a waste of writing. All that is required is just the quote so just keep your personal crap to yourself.
So you are going to compare like I said all of the consoles to the PC. Like I said that is lame.
1.2 billion for PC sales and 5.8 to total up NGC, Xbox, PS2, GBA and all other console machines that sell software. Infact if you read more what that article said in the first paragraph infact.
"The final, hopefully, overall game sales figures for 2003 have been released, suggesting that Teen and Everyone rated titles were the real winners of the year. Although some of these figures may be accounted for by the many GBA owners, it would also seem that Nintendo's recent sales success may also be behind such changes."
Not PS2, Not Xbox, Not NGC but Game Boy Advanced. Well, if I were to compare a PC to that I would be comparing a laptop. Everyone loves the GBA, talk about a traveling game toy. Infact there is word going out that N-Gage may even change all of that. So if you are going to use that and think that PC is in trouble from what ytou say in your post. I think you are definitely desparate to win this argument. However I won't let that happen. 1.2 Billion is nothing to say it is even NEAR in trouble of going under.
Hmm if you divide even the known corporates PS2, XboX, NGC, GBA. Go figure....5.8 Billion divide by 4. Well if I am correct that is more like 1.4 Billion. Infact from the article you point to GBA can make claim to the majority of that. So I figure to be atleast fair to you that each console machine sells about as much as the PC does and that is just in gaming software. So, not only is the PC not going anywhere in a downward spirl soon, but I think they are doing pretty darn good as it comes to game sales. Like I said, lucky for you there is not another 3 platforms of PC's.
oh and BTW, I am not going to waste anymore time with this. You can keep beating the dead horse all you want, I am done with this since the topic in the first place doesn't even belong here. I've seen this same ol' argument even before Quake came out and nothing has changed. I think you console lovers should just go and play your games and stop your whining that all of us aren't playing consoels to. Why else do you all keep crying wolf. Is it that lonely over in the console arena? if so, come play PC games. I can guarranty you will find a load of players to game with.
Anyway, You can keep arguing all you want I am not reading this threat again. It is a waste and I think you all have been given enough posts to prove otherwise and still haven't convinced the world. So just go onin live and stop letting my words cut you in the gut, Tasky. So, anymore words is just you talking to yourself. Oh and BTW, My son just got Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow on his Xbox and it looks great. I think he going to play that now instead of CS on Live. Infact it looks so cool I think I will go get it for my PC. Man, look at that, 49.99 for the PC one and 59.99 for the xbox one. No wonder why they are making more money. Maybe the PC one should raise their prices to to keep up with the high prices of the console games. Oh well.....have a nice life. Maybe I will cya in SC:PT or maybe my son will kick your butt in there....He infact just said yeah dad tell him. I want to kick his butt....Xbox name: dawgmeat. Go get'um son mohahaha.
Now look I never said that Console systems are better then PC they both have there ups and downs. In terms of graphics there better. Its that simple. Now let me break a few things down for you.
I have a geforce 4 128 mb ram, a 2.1 gig processor, 768 mb ram. Now this isnt top of the line but its a good system. Now i could get away with not upgrading my system for a min 3 years before I had to really upgrade. When I do up grade I might have to up grade my processor in about 2 years. My video card would be the most important thing id have to upgrade and that would only cost me about 100 dollars to do. So in short in a 3 year period to just keep my system running smoothly id have to spend maybe 300 dollars...O guess what youll spend 600 dollars in next three years just to keep up with the games. Thats if you dont have to buy all the extra works and let me tell you by time you get done doing that you almost could have bought a PC. Every year almost a new console comes out and you cant play new games on the old Console (i.e you cant play PS2 game on PS.) Which means every time a game console comes out you will have to buy it to be able to play the most current games. Now PC's you dont have this problem. Its rather cheap once you get a good system built.
Now one other thing you need to be aware of. there is a new console system coming out next year some time. It will be better faster and it will have the ability to be upgradeable because it uses the same stuff the PC uses. Its basically a PC console syste. It plays PC games. It will have a keyboard and a mouse and all the same things you get with a PC pluse you can hook up a monitor as well as a TV up at the same time. The price will be 400 dollars and because it works exacly like a PC that means you will only have to spend a fraction of the price that console players would to keep up with the market. This system is going to control the Market as far as console go. One cause it plays PC games and two its cheap and will cost less to upgrade and keep up with the Market.
Me personallly I dont care how well console do there have always been PC games and there always will be. Seeing how I hate most of the games that come out and sense playing with a joypad with FPS is a joke and I dont see the point of playing MMORPG on console when I get better CG on my computer then a console and I dont like the idea of using a Joypad to play a MMORPG I have no real reason to buy a console system. Well im out here im going to bed. Later.
Whatever, I will stick to whatever is best for my gaming tastes, but I would be happy if it would be consoles because they are cheaper, but atm, consoles lack in the gaming department.

OK, bye Tyrgris... Sorry to see ya go. This was just getting interesting.
Pretty bad how a machine like the GBA beat your PC in game sales. Isn't it the weakest of all consoles???
I keep saying that a person does not have to play games solely on one or the other. The smart people are using both so they get the best of both worlds.
And wherever you are getting these $59.99 XBox games, you should try to keep from getting ripped off. I have never paid more than $49.99. In fact I have not seen a store that sells them for $59.99. (Except Steel Battallion).
No one is trying to convince you to throw your PC away. But you are right, there are people that are just way too stubborn. I use to be one.
Your son could probably whoop me, I have never been a fan of FPS games. My friends 6 year old kid whips my butt. Though I do like playing them on the Xbox. It makes for a more venly matched fight.
<added later, sorry>
Why is your kid playing on an XBox if PCs are so much better and consoles are a waste of time. I think you know that there is a growing place in this world for consoles, you just don't want to admit it.
<end of added part>
Killtalk,
You are bringing up the same arguments that have been shot down already in this thread. Buying a new console every 4 or 5 years is cheaper than keeping your PC up to snuff.
You think that graphics card will last 3 more years? I just got rid of mine, it was a GeForce 4 TI4200 128MB. It is trash compared to some of the $150 cards on the market. Not counting the even better ones. It clunks along on a lot of the newer games.
Is your processor a Celeron or an Athlon? There are n0 P4 2.1GHz chips. That CPU is no way going to last 3 years. And guess what, when you upgrade in 3 years, it will be a CPU, motherboard, and memory. If you get anywhere near top of the line when you do it, it will cost in the $300 to $400 range minimum. Enough to buy an Xbox 2 (if you wait 3 years). Nothing cheap about owning a PC. They get completely upgraded as often as new consoles come out. Or they are too old to play the latest games on. No PC can go 4 years and still play a recently released game that is any good. But my Xbox can still play the most recently released XBox games.
No way is a consolized PC going to work. If it plays the same games as the PC, why would people buy it? They have PCs??? It sounds interesting though, can you provide a link. I want to see this thing.
ok first off I do know a lot about computers and I dont have any problems at all running any pc games. In fact Im a havy gamer and I crank up all the game graphics and my system handles every thing great. Second of all when was the last time you looked at the requirements of a game. Most of them can be ran off systems that are 3 years old. I have had a computer for past 10 years now. My computer lasted 4 years yes thats right 4 years before I had to go in and replace the parts. I spend only 500 houndred dollars to upgrade it to the system I have now. I play beta wow and L2 and these games run perfectly on it and my system is all ready a year old heck maybe even 2 years old.
Man you really dont know squat about computers do you Taskyzz. I went down help a friend build his PC. With motherboard and processor and all the works we only spent 700 dollars with out the Monitor and keyboard and mouse and all that good stuff once add that in it came out to be about 900 dollars.
Now no I never claimed to have the greast system in the world but my system is a year old and I have yet to run in to a game I couldnt play smoothly. Yes if i try and keep what I like to call a Frag box which in nut shell is a hardcore gamers computer then yea I would but see im not gone wast my money on doing that when I dont need to. Actually Ive had this system for a year and half and havent touched one thing in side it in that amount of time and I can play the same games every one else does and play them just as well as the guys that have those KICK ASS 2,000 dollar computer. The fact is there is a point of over kill which is what most computer gamers do over kill.
You know I have tried other video cards over the years and they all crap out on me. Geforce to me seem like the only game card worth a damn. I dont have to have the most current video card and yet mine can still have no problem what so ever running games.
The fact is computers should be updated around a year to every 2 years. Yet you can get away with it for 3 years with out upgrading. How do I know this cause I know people who play WOW right now in beta whos systems are at least 3 years out dated and though they have to turn down the graphics a tad bit but they handle the game. Now they realize they need to upgrade there system. Any way im done im sick of this argument. Hey you losers who play Console pc games will be here forever. In no shape or fashion are they going any where.
Yes, us losers who play console games... Just can't win... need to flame...
Yes, you can turn the graphics down and still play a game. Yes, you can keep your PC going for 3 years. I agree. My console lasts that long as well. This isn't even part of the argument in my mind. The debate is that the console is the future of gaming. It is taking over the market. Games on consoles are getting better and better. When XBox 2 (or PS3) hits the shelves and all the games are running at 1080i, Xbox Live! or PS3 Online is up and kicking, a decent MMORPG (or more than one) is online with built-in voice chat, some of you will change your tune. Others will just stay stubborn and keep saying PC is better.
I am not saying PC gaming is not fun, or that you should not play it. I play games on my PC. Not very often, but I do. When a good next gen MMORPG that I want to play hits the market (Guild Wars probably), I will play it and probably spend hours and hours doing so. Just like you. I am not debating this. But when a good MMORPG hits the XBox, I will probably switch. You won't, I understand that.
All I am saying is the future is the console, just as the orginal topic suggested.

1.4G Athon, 2x 60G drives. GeForce 3 vid card, 512MB RAM... $1550 (not counting that ridiculous monitor he threw in).
Lets look at the "normal" PC:
1.4G Athlon, 60G drive, GeForce 2 vid card, 256MB RAM... $1400 Lets say $1150 without monitor.
No way either of these machines runs the latest games... The "High End" PC would have needed upgrading a while ago.
Yes, you can build a very nice PC for $700 today, I agree. But it will still need to be upgraded in 3 years. The parts that consistently need upgrading are vid card and CPU. A decent vid card is always around $150. Unfortunately, upgrading the CPU after 2 years always requires a new motherboard and new memory or you do not upgrade to the latest technology.
If you take your 3 year old PC and turn the graphics down on your games so that you can play them, you are throwing away the only real advantage the PC has over the console. The resolution and the graphics quality.
You right PC are done. I might as well retire my system cause man game developers are going to stop making PC games. Ok every one who owns computer go sell your system because computers are done for they have nothing really to offer any more.
Now let me set one thing straight. I have a friend who works at a game store and they sell PC games as well as Console games. We once had this discussion with some friends of ares. Now heres fact you have 3 plateforms while PC is universal any game that comes out will play on my pc. Now you dont have that luxuary. Two and this is a fact cause Ive seen what my friends store does and its one of the busy stores in my home town (Austin texas.) now if you take PS2 games and look at the over all yearly sales and compare them to the PC games they do about the same in sales. Now one other fact you need to remember console games are flooded with games. Were PC games arnt all that flood with just toons and toons of new games each month. Now this isnt me BS this is a fact ive seen what his store generated last year on sales and PC held its own with the console systems.
You guys can go off and belive what you want. Fact is you wouldnt have the games you have on the console with out the game companies puch the boundries of PC games. So I say Consoles can kiss my Computers Hardrive because with out PC games your console games would still be stuck in dark ages. God I hate retard people.
ok this is last time Im posting cause im tired of this converstation its becoming actually really annoying in fact. You know what I dont care any more. FINE CONSOLE WALK ON FUCKEN WATER. PC HAVE NO RIGHT TO HAVING GAME WE SHOULD ALL JUST SELL ARE SYTEMS.
fact is your talking out your ass. You have never looked at system requirements on back of a game and if you did you cant read them right. Second a computer can go 3 years with out a major upgrade thats 3 years. I could upgrade my system right now to a frag system and it would cost me no more then 300 dollars why cause I know were to go to get the parts. I bought my gf a 2.8 gig processor and a really good mother board and only spent 200 dollars. Replacing parts in a computer over time is the key which makes it easier to do. You cant do this with console system. Next year PS is coming out with yet another system. Once that happens you wont be able to play the PS3 system games which means your gone have to go out and by a whole new console then all the add ons.
man forget this im done I have had it with this conversation Console are no more then the Futur of gaming then computers are if there was a futur of gaming its gone be in PC and only because it continues to push furher in terms of gaming then the console ever will. My roomate has a PS2 and no way do the graphics can ever come close to beating some of the games like L2, EQ2 or WOW, or games like Freelance or Unreal. Go head belive what you like I dont care cause ill never play a console system 99% of the games suck any way.
If you upgrade your PC, chances are it's for gaming purposes - so the way I see it a there is no PC vs Console issue - there's just which Games Playing Machine do you prefer. Sure a PC can do other things like run Office apps, but so what? I use my PC the vast majority of the time for games - and web browsing (which could be done on a Dreamcast too )!
For me I find there's games I want to play on each machine. Each has it's merits and I'd never say one is better than the others.
I bought FFXI on PC rather than PS2 because it was cheaper and chat input is easier with a keyboard.
I bought Splinter Cell : Pandora Tomorrow on XBox rather than PC because XBox Live with voice communication is excellent, I prefer the XBox controller for these types of games, and I knew I wouldn't have to concern myself with whether the game would look as good on my aging PC as it does in the screen shots on the back of the box.
But in response to the original post 'The future of gaming is console not PC' I'd have to disagree - developers and publishers will continue to release games on the machines that are likely to offer the greatest return on their investment, and I can't see developers ditching the PC market any time soon.
The console and PC markets, whilst overlapping in some areas, are still very different markets. And if someone can afford a 2000dollar PC to play EQ2, it's likely they'll have the disposable income to also pay 15dollars a month to play it.

I don't know why some people can't hold a conversation without getting upset.
Jdoki, you are right here, most people who are playing games on their PC are using it for that purpose most of the time.
For me I find there's games I want to play on each machine. Each has it's merits and I'd never say one is better than the others.
I agree with this too. Both have its good games and not so good.

I agree again. I prefer getting a game on the Xbox if it works on both, unless it requires a mouse, then I go with PC. No reason why someone shouldn't be able to make that decision for themself. You are right, the bottom line is what input device is needed to play the game enjoyably.
But in response to the original post 'The future of gaming is console not PC' I'd have to disagree - developers and publishers will continue to release games on the machines that are likely to offer the greatest return on their investment, and I can't see developers ditching the PC market any time soon.
I believe the developers also see the input device to game correllation, just as we do. What will probably happen is that games that NEED a mouse and keyboard will continue to come out on the PC, but console developers will find ways around it. Like voice chat instead of typing. One day someone may develop a mouse replacement that actually works (not an analog stick).
Sure, there will always be a market for games on the PC. But you can bet that developers know that programming for a specific video card is much easier than trying to support the mass of video cards on the PC market. You can go to any PC game site and find pages about how to solve problems specific to the make and model of some video cards.
The console and PC markets, whilst overlapping in some areas, are still very different markets. And if someone can afford a 2000dollar PC to play EQ2, it's likely they'll have the disposable income to also pay 15dollars a month to play it.
This is very true. There will always be a PC game market as long as there are people willing to buy games. But that market is shrinking and will probably shrink to a minimum point. PC Game manufacturers are going to have to do something to bring the interest back. Make some advancement, or some device that consoles don't do... And as others have pointed out (many many many times) consoles are very similar to PCs and it will be hard to do something to a PC that can't be done to a console.
Heck, Microsoft could put an SVGA port on the XBox 2, wouldn't that drive some these guys nuts!!!
Add a keyboard and mouse and then this conversation would be debating whether it is a console or a PC.
Whilst this doesn't really add to the debate... The Sega Dreamcast had a mouse and keyboard, a modem, was based on a Nvidia chipset and ran a version of Windows (it was even badged as Compatible with Windows CE).
Anyway. Perhaps the PC market will shrink - but I don't think it'll shrink to a dangerous point in the short, medium or even long term. Consoles are stealing some thunder from PC's in terms of what types of games are released, but if the PC market streamlines a bit and we see a few 'PC only' developers merging, it may be good for the industry and encourage future growth.
I'd rather see a few quality games instead of bucket loads of rubbish. And with Microsoft working on this XNA initiative http://www.microsoft.com/xna/ I think the future looks pretty bright for PC players.
Time will tell as they say, and whatever the outcome as long as good games are released for the systems I own I don't mind!
um its not that pc games are shrinking its just that console games are being flooded with hundreds of games a year. The games that come out on the PC are still in demand and still sell well and there are lots of choice of games in fact more choice then I wish. It sucks only have 55 dollars spend on a game and have 6 games out you want to buy. This is another reason I refuse to play console games there way to many games out which means that its that much harder to pick which on you want to play.
I also perfer PC over console because it usually takes me a couple of weeks to beat a game were console I usually beat them in a few days and there overly easy to play.
The fact is that now maybe the market has shrunk to some degree but I see this as a good thing. Thing is that game developers are not trying to flood the market with tons of PC games because it means that less chance there games are going to see.
If you look at console games most of them dont sale all that well. There are hand full that sell. Such as fighting games, Sports games, a few of the RPG ones but with so many titles out there to many games get lost through the cracks. so eventually what is happening to pc games will happen to the console games. Developers will quit flooding the market with games.
Also PC games are going through a change. Most games now are Online. I think this is the direction that game developers are going to take PC towards. I think that Large portion of the games will be Online which is all ready true in most cases. Were I dont think that Online games for console will do all that well youll get a few block busters but you wont see it to the degree that you see PC games do.
I know so many console players who have the ability to go online but spend most of it on lan lines playing against there friends. SOCOM probably is the biggest online game that is currently out next to Halo.
So just cause there arnt 50 million games coming out in one year doesnt mean that its a bad thing. Releasing a handful of games that will sell is better then releasing 50 games that wont sell at all which happens with consoles more then you may realize or care to admite.
PC's have much more backwards compatability than consoles. To play all my favorite PC games, I click the icon since they're all saved on my 200GB hd. For all my console games, I have to fish out the console if it's not hooked up, the get the connectors and controllers, etc...(I switch between everything from original NES to XBox.) Even if I have all the consoles in place they take up a lot of room and the controllers get tangled. This isn't a make or break advantage for PC's, but it's one that has an impact on me from time to time.
Even the latest generation of console games in my favorites list covers 3 different consoles. If they all strive for backwards compatability for the rest of time, there's still multiple consoles to choose from.
I don't care either way in this argument. I play PC over console 90% of the time, and seeing companies pour tens of millions of dollars into one game is enough not to worry me about the PC game market losing high quality content.

I used to be a bigg supporter of consoles only and had ever system available. but as of latley ive been selling them all for the simple fact that on a pc you can download a rom to play all those clasics on and to boot you dont have to spend hundreds (yes hundreds) of hours looking for those rare titles that made console games so fun plus as it was brought out no changing plugs or cartrages/discs
i would never recomend anyone to not buy a console but that is just my opinion on things.
oh ya and i love rpg's so if your looking for a good game buy an rpg buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy thats just an unbiased opinion on purchasing games.

Why should this even be an argument? You should know that platform makes no difference, c'mon. I own 6 consoles and a PC I made myself, and would I say either one's better for games? Hell no.

Later.
Wow, this subject is so opiniated...
I mean, 17 pages in so short a time...

<added later, sorry>
Why is your kid playing on an XBox if PCs are so much better and consoles are a waste of time. I think you know that there is a growing place in this world for consoles, you just don't want to admit it.
<end of added part>
Killtalk,
You are bringing up the same arguments that have been shot down already in this thread.
Lets look at the stats of a 3 year old PC:
Here is the link I used, and selected High-End:
http://www.guru3d.com/guide/buyer/
Can't we all just get along!?
Anyway gone go see if Endless Ages is done. later
