UbiSoft and VU games are European companies aren't they? I like the USA but your attitude towards Europe pisses me right off, i live in the UK so why the hell should i get second class treatment from MMO companies. The UK and Germany do not live off money from the US, it is the UK and Germany that pay for the European Uninion. Like ive said before Goldy you are from European descent, must be hard to live with. Anyway i agree with you that the Wii outsells the PS3 its a clear fact. However the PS3 in terms of power make the Wii look like a snes.
Because ill tell you this those companies may be europed based but there revenue comes from AMERICA so deal with it!!! And you dont know what nationality i am so don't presume im from dat bucket of waste called europe!!!
By your name on your email address you are from Scottish descent i would say, If the TX stands for texas on your profile then the south was where alot of the first british settelments were in the USA. By the way Europe has a population of over 600 million people and the US has between 3 and 400 miilion people. So who has the bigger customer base?... Europe, The reason we don't get the same service is because of all the different languages. I would say however that because the UK and US have much more in common with each other than the reast of Europe, we do share a language after all. This being the case the UK atleast should get the same service given to the US.
well your wrong im not of scottish descent. And you say that like everyone in europe just started there in europe just one day out of no where. everyone has a descent but its not your descent its where your from. Im from United States born and raised, wasn't raised european. But the reason UK doesn't get the same treatment is because the industry probably doesn't make enough sales to warrent UK production along side US. But if UK was using the NTSC formant vs the PAL (i dont know just guessing on that matter) im sure UK would. That way they don't have to change the formats to play on differant systems. Now i know this doesn't really apply to PC market which i have no clue why UK gets the shaft, but my only guess is theres not enough sales in the UK in a grand total. But just like you guys get the better rally cars we get shunned because of stupid enviormental issues. Every place has its perks just europe doesn't get them in the video game industry as of today.
I never thought about the PAl/NTSC formats, your probably on to something there but i still reckon that Europe having hundreds of different languages is a major cause of game release being delayed for us. I don'r beleive that everyone in Europe just appeared there, everyone travelled from the Middle-East , the lost tribes of Israel ect. But by blood most people in America are of European descent, you may not be of Scottish descent maybe Irish i dunno. But your last name is pure Scottish.
hehe naw my dad is black and my mom is white and i got my last name from my dad =P
Yeah right, Microsoft has this game contractually locked and bolted down tight.
Microsoft has no contract that binds Funcom to only their console, if they so chose they could port it to anything they wanted. The fact however remains that the 360 is pretty much the only console capable of handling the kind of strain AoC is going to put on it, not to mention is a hell of a lot easier to code for. This is BS the PS3 has way more power and ability then the X-Box why lie ? The code part is true tho
Still fanboyz off all types i guess ... ps im an old school rpger , have not cared for an rpg after xenogears and fft and valk profile.... Tho i have played alot ...
edit- to add that i understand that its coming out for x-box 360 and pc, not the ps3 (not like i care).I love how people still haven't realized that the xbox 360 does indeed have more power overall than the playstation 3. The ps3 processor may have more power on paper, however coding for it is a nightmare. It has 8 SPEs, one of which is disabled during manufacturing, and another which is dedicated to the OS strictly. This leaves six, single threaded, processor like pieces of hardware to handle games. The xbox 360 has a symetrical, three core processor, each core being multithreaded. So they are basically even, however the playstation three's cell is much more difficult to program for. Also, the graphics card in the xbox 360 with its daughter die and modified version of directx 9 blows the graphics card in the playstation 3 out of the water due to it's unified shader design. The playstation 3 is more a home entertainment media package than a gaming machine when compared to the xbox 360. So the console with the overall most power is also much easier to program for and needless to say, has better online support. I wish people would do some research, honestly.
You're discription of cell processing isn't really fair.
The PS3 has more processing power then the 360 could ever hope to have. The 360 is nothing more then a relatively high end pc and doesn't do anything out of the ordinary; it uses the same hardware you can put into your PC today, and most likely already have. The PS3 is using technology that won't be widely used in PC's for a little while yet. You can see evidence of it in Nvidias commercial 8800 gfx card, wich uses a form of cell processing. Graphically there is no dif. between what the 360 and the PS3 can do, and the PS3 is capable of doing thing outside of graphics that the 360 can't, as well as rendering faster then the 360 can from what I've seen.
Neither machine has a leg up as far as gaming goes, unless you consider that the 360 is easier to make games for, and it's easier because it's using tech that is already familliar to developers. Insiders have been saying this since these two systems were in developement, you will see no dif. in graphics between these two systems. What it will come down to is what titles become exlusive to what system. Arguing over wich system is better is silly. Just buy the one that has the games you want to play, or don't buy one at all.
Also DX will have nothing to do with whether or not you can play these two games on the same server. The graphics are client side, the 360 is DX capable, and it's already been stated that if they chose to it is possible to play cross platform. The problem they have is keeping gameplay balanced. PC users have an advantage with the mouse and keyboard over console users controller. If they can keep it balanced then expect to see cross platform gameplay. There was even an article on this site about that very issue.
I for one would love to play cross platform. Everyone I know has a 360 and it would be nice to be able to play a game with my friends and familly.
Console gamer, or PC gamer, we all have the same thing in common. We're GAMERS.
The first thing i will say is that like everyone else in these forums i respect and appreciate your opinion. Honestly.
From a technical standpoint however you are utterly and totally incorrect.
Xbox 360 is a touch more than a development of PC hardware. In fact the two and indeed the PS3 also are not even comparable. Trust me. Technical debates are a strong point of mine and because i work in the industry i like to bring a non biased view of technology and its capabilities.
The Xbox 360 uses a custom built Triple Core IBM solution for processing at a speed of 3,2Ghz per core sharing 1Mb Cache. The processor called "Xenon" is built upon two hardware threads per core for a total of six symetrical threading units and is a (more set function limited) "In Order" processor architecture. It excels at floating point math, vertices calculation and raw ALU programmable math. In a general computing environment it would struggle to even perform against a Hyper Threaded Pentium 4 "Out of Order" PC architecture, again in a general computing, Operating System environment. Point being...it doesnt need too. Its a dedicated games playing system as is your PS3's "In Order" Processor architecture. The "Dedicated" raw processing power it has too throw at games is utterly immense and in that dedicated function, I.E what those processers were designed to do from the ground up it HIGHLY surpasses your current PC architecture in performance spades. However if you wished to argue a multi purpose computing environment over multi-tasking and cross functioning your PC's AMD or Intel dual core is a far more advanced and versatile "Out of Order" processor architecture. You are comparing apples and oranges and ending up with bannnas. Trust me know the 360's Internal architecture is NOT just an advancment of PC architecture...its a different implementation of tech to achieve a dedicated function. And the same same with your coveted PS3.
"Your description of Xbox 360 CPU capabilities isnt fair" Sir!! Fact! It is NOT using Architecture you can simply "Put In" your PC today and if you think the PS3's dedicated architecture is the Way PC's are headed....mmm you should read further into the industry.
Ok, the 8800 range from Nvidia is NOT in any way similar in technology standpoint to Cell processing technology. What it actually is is an entry level example for Nvidia into the area of graphics technology evolving around "Unified Shader Architecture". The 8800 range from Nvidia uses "Stream Processors" that are dedicated graphics pipelines capable of Pixel or Vertex shading by the developer and programmer, or the low level API in Direct X, they are very limited/dedicated function processors, they are arguably less powerful than dedicated Pixel and Vertex Pipelines in earlier graphics card technology but far more versatile and programmable. They are not comparable with Play Station 3's use of SPE Modules at all.
Ironically Nvidia held off for a long time against Unified Shader Pipes on graphics technology. One of the reasons your PlayStation 3 Utilises a fixed 24 pixel shaders and 8 vertex pipes similar to the Nvidia G70 Architecture. The first Unified Shader architecture GPU was infact the "Xenos" the ATI graphics hardware in the Xbox 360 featuring 48 unified shader/vertex pipelines.
The fact that the Xbox 360 is easier too programme for is partially down to the fact that yes its architecture is proven and industry tested to a fashion, although being CUSTOM built its still "new". However lets not forget whom the Xbox 360 belongs too, thats right, Microsoft the largest software company on the planet. A good portion of why the 360 is currently as easier job to programme for than its PS3 rival is because the tools and interfaces provided by microsoft for the Xbox 360 are far more intuituve, effiecient, friendly and lower cost than the PS3's proprietery tools provided by Sony. So your point about it being easier to programme for because its "been around" for a while in terms of technology is utterly bollocks. They are both NEW custom built pieces of hardware, however one companies API and tools at present are better than the others.
As for your point about PS3 being capable of "more" than the 360 outside of graphics, i beg to differ. You havent an equivelent of the online infrastructure provided by XBox Live on the PS3. Whilst what you have is getting better it isnt currently even competing, thats a fact.
Secondly three words..."Media Center Extender" yes its incredibly easy to stream Pictures, Music and Video to your Xbox 360 in the lounge connected wirelessly to your Media Center PC upstairs.
Yes PS3 has similar functionality, but im not seeing the massive user recognition and usability or sleek interfaces with mass market pc based operating systems that the Xbox 360 currently has and enjoys because of its parent company being based in "Software", and that is a key word.
Linux and its media abilities if set up right are great, i use them regularly. The PS3 can load certain versions of linux, Browse the web and load pictures and media from a Linux base...however from a software perspective and approachability to the mass End user it isnt achieving what Xbox 360 achieves currently as a media center extender. Sorry.
As for the rest of your points. Solid observations and as always in some cases whilst i use solid technical fact to disagree i respect your comments....Your closing comment for me hit the nail on the head, nice point you made there.

Good point. Xbox 360 does have its advantages. I don't really know what the hype is about the PS3 nor the 360. Only reason I like consoles VS. PCs is compatiblity. Now with PC's best graphics close to par with the consoles now its going to be harder for the PC market because you dont have to worry about installing drivers to play the next cool game that comes out. The PC industry needs to make a standard for there hardware because as the consoles become more powerful they can take PC's role in dominating the gaming market on the best graphics/visuals. Because for the best graphics card out at the moment i can purchase the 599.99 ps3 and have a working game machine where i dont have to worry about windows driver compatiblities. And have a blu-ray player. or get a xbox360 with a hd-dvd add on for 599.99 aswell and if i get the same set up for my PC at the moment im looking to spend 2,500+. By the time PS4 and xbox 720 come out PC gaming will all but be dying IMO because of these costs. I can place a keyboard on my consoles now and a mouse so the gaming industry is going to change soon to market consoles first.

I disagree about consoles killing PC gaming. Its the whole chicken than lays the egg concept. PC gaming is needed to enhance console gaming, in a sense they rely on eachother. The future of gaming will be found in UGC, user generated content. This is where a lot of developers are researching and eventually pushing for. There are so many problems with successfully allowing UGC that its tricky but they are slowly working it in. PCs are needed for some of this UGC. Its the plan to have future MMORPGs have crafting systems that allow players to literally create new items from their computer and allow them to appear in game. Basically games that evolve through the users and not the developers.
As for PC costs. I just helped a friend order a dual core 5600+ AMD PC, with 3 gigs of PC-800 DDR ram, Coolermaster Ammo case, liquid cooling, Gygabyte SLI mother board, 320gig hard drive, DVD-Rw, GeForce 8600 GPU, keyboard and mouse, subwoofer speaker system and some other goodies for under $1000. Actually before tax it was $625.
So computers are actually getting pretty cheap if you know where to look. Sometimes it requires getting a barebone system and then getting some of the other stuff off new egg, but its still cheap and no where near that $2500 price tag you seem to think it is. Thats one of the problems with people who only support consoles, they do not realize that PC gaming isnt all that expensive.
