In games like WoW and LOTRO, the content is very thick, so thick in fact that you never even have to go out of your way to get content (like in VG), but you can if you so choose.
The third biggest issue is the complete lack of character customization with most classes: I don't mean appearance, but skill-wise. The attributes given to everybody are completely nonsensical, since there is only ever one optimal choice for each race/class combination. Many people, however, consider this a moot point since there are so many classes in Vanguard.

I don't see how the game is lacking in content. Now i didnt play past level 23 because i didnt have a lot of time to play, but in those levels i was only in a few of the hundreds of zones in the game. And how does the game run out of solo content after 20. The first level 50 person on the server i was on did it all solo, so it can be done.

And personally i didnt find their to be a lot of content in WoW. Maybe the first time through. But once you knew how to do a quest you would end up going through zones to quickly and be undered leveled for new quests.

.. and yet if you talk to people, they will name the same small handful of hotspots that people flock to in VG.  The game world might physically be huge, but if 99% of it is useless filler; bland empty landscape, then does that really count as content?

You know in a way, it is a blessing that the game is so underpopulated.  Imagine if there were actually 4000-5000 people on a server; you would have lines a mile long fighting over the small number of implemented areas.  Notice the word: implemented, because you can't count areas that haven't been itemized, etc.

I keep hearing that argument over and over again.

Did Sigil made a game for you personnally and that is the cause soo many players doesn't play?

This is a recent post on TTH from Brad saying they have passed the 100k subscriber mark. I don't have the time to hunt it down and link it. Search on TTH.

I looked, but didn't find it.

For me the key question is:

When it passed the 100k mark, which way was it going?

And I would assume that there is a possibilty to start with above 100k subs, considering it was a hit at release?

I looked over at Tentonhammer and I think this is the post from Brad being referred to - for info go to the members list, select Brad's handle and then do a find all posts (in case this isn't the one).

This is from 11th March by the way, so nearly 2 months ago as well: LInk here http://forums.tentonhammer.com/showthread.php?p=97129#post97129

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well over 100,000 are playing and enjoying the game right now, so I'm fine talking about the future too.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game launches, 30k+ buy in January with another 120k+ buying in c. first 2 weeks in February (Brad posted 150k mid-Feb) so a month later with 150k people on their free month I would hope that 100k were playing. Now there may have been a huge drop off after 1 month but I suspect the big problem was at the 2 month point. That was when EQ2 saw a huge drop off and I think this has happened with Vanguard. This couple with the very poor sales figures for March = Sigil + SoE in talks,

    Absolutely.

I am shocked because at the time of release, my performance was very poor in the game.  However, at the time of writing this, and as I said it has shocked me, I do not lag -at all- in the game.  If I lag, it is very slightly in major cities and towns that are crowded; but I have found that this has also improved drastically.

It is why I have written about because the improvement in performance has been so incredible.

Maybe the explination for this incredible improvement in preformance is that when you left so did 90% of the playerbase, and now when you come back to have a look the lag has gone. Not thanks to those amazing boys and girls at Sigil or SOE but thanks to the fact that no-one is playing it anymore?

Hey mister just joined in April (Yarisagos)

    1. You have posted on average 10 times per day in one month 7 days a week. How do you find time to play the "many" games you claim?

    2. All your posts say what a great game VG is.

    3. You are obviously compensated for your posts. Please go away, as I am personally offended by your existence.

Sure I have proof. We exposed many and their marketing firm at Dark and Light.

Tell me, Rollotamasi, who joined in late JAN 07.. why have you written 250+ posts in <5 months (~1.2 per day) bashing other games and flaming those who post opinions that complain on VG?

Why the sudden interest in this game? Im just curious.

Im just a dynoGamer. Observing and smiling.. I do not hate VG or love it.

If the game was enjoyable you would be there playing instead of wasting time reading and posting in this forum.  The game stinks. They dropped the ball big time.  Proof is forums all over the net. Heck some sites have shut down because its so bad.

My interest is not in this game.  I have never played it and probably never will.  My interest is in people's inability to let others enjoy a game (any game) because they did or do not.  That is all.  And by the way, What games have I been bashing  "Sinfay" Wealth of information that has written an amount of posts that I do not care about in a time frame I also do not care about.  The content of those posts I once again do not care about.

No interest in the game? Yet you post specs on what runs and what does not? A bit suspect

I have not tried it however I am a Apple tech.  The only problem you will probably encounter is going to be with the video card.  I would reccomend removing whatever driver XP finds during the install and seeing if there is a XP driver for it from your manufacturer.  Also, in the name of all things sacred and good in this world DO NOT TRY IT WITH VISTA.  It barely runs on a P.C.

Pretty in depth help for someone who has no interest in the game. But I digress.

I guess what I don't understand is when "grinding" somehow became the mark of a "hardcore" game.

grinding is a game designers inability to produce fun content - IMHO

Well, Lets see here.  I am an apple tech which means I probably know Apple hardware. I am a PC tech as well but that is besides the point.  From reading the 100's of posts complaining about the performance on a PC I'm pretty qualified to answer someones question about running it on Mac hardware As well as seeing the system specs a P.C requires to run the game.  Thats called being Helpful.  I would have also answered a thread about running any other piece of made for a PC software on a Mac.  His question was about hardware, not the game itself.  If his question would have been "Is shadowknight a fun class to play"  I would not have answered the question because I would have no expirence to draw from to do so as I have not played that game.  As I said before, I have no interest in the game its self.  My interest more lies in why this particular game seems to be so polarizing.  You apparently have read my posts so you know know.  You see, I'm a people person.  Haven't you noticed?

Oh, and as far as specs on what runs and what does not I point you to what I said before.  I do Software/Hardware for a living.  I beta tested Vista and currently have it installed on one of my systems.  Knowing that Vanguard has high system req's and that Vista is a resource hog, It doesn't take much to put two and two together and see that running a high system req game on a high system resource OS probably isn't the best idea.  Not rocket science, simply common sense.

I'm also still waiting to see those games that I have bashed.  I'll cut you some slack though, You have to pour over my 250 posts (1.2 per day) posted in less then 5 months to find them.

My interest? An MMO worth playing.

Unfortunately from some quick research looks like Vanguard is just another rushed out grind. Kinda sad state MMOs are in at the moment IMHO.

There's my answer Rollotamasi (oops) I mean Fariic1. Looks like you used the wrong account in your fast typing

    1.  Attack the spelling/grammar.

Thanks for the tip Rollo, as I am in awe of your vast experience of a few months at MMORPG.com you have. Its not to hard to spot a fake actually. You can only polish a turd so much. I apologize for the lack of euphamisms.

ANYwhoos getting back on topic, here is a link of the only objective guy who looks at subsciption rates. Good info.

Looks like VG is in the "other" category unfortunately, without estimates.

Then you have seen plenty of it.  The most common way to spot a unskilled debater is to use a flawed statement that there is no way to disprove.  While they (and people that don't have a decent command of thinking/logic) take this as a win those of us that understand how a proper debate works understands that a theory based on a flawed argument is a flawed theory so is invalid.  Regardless, its still fun to watch :)  Look forward to seeing you around.
