I spent all last night and some of this morning looking around the .net and seeing what people where dissing Vanguard about...and its obvious and the reason that this game is considered to be 'dying' Its because the game is for hardcore players only and not for the everyday player...Because, and yes im using WoW as comparison, if you play WoW and get to level 30 then you feel happy because your halfway through the game...yet, in the same amount of time, I have just gotten to level 11 in Vanguard and yet I feel even better about it because of the dedication and how good of a player you really are. The people who are bashing Vanguard for LOTRO and WoW dont want a challenge. They want to go in, play a couple hours, and then be on top with all of the other 'hardcore n00bs' thinking they are great and all....Either that or they are people who can only play an hour or less a day and, again, want to be on top with everyone else instead of working their way up. This results in our Vanguard boards getting filled with 'Vanguard Sucks' and 'Sorry Brad' threads....I also found something else interesting...Have you (and Im talking to my hardcore brothers here) ever noticed that in WoW you run into a majority of players with bad attitudes that steal loot and that you just cant stand? Now, take that, and look in your time with vangaurd....everyone that i have met have been awsome. They quest with you, grind with you, help you out item wise if they are a higher level and do whatever they can to be friendly. That my friends is what makes a good MMO and what makes my time with an online game worth the $15 i pay every month My point: Its impossible to fake yourself in Vanguard...either your hardcore or your not...yet in WoW and LOTRO you can be considered '1337' for less than a week of total play (and maybe even less)....That and the community is the best out there, you will find no better (in-game)
Prove me wrong and I will gladly praise your game of choice...because you know what? I'm not wrong, and anyone who has played knows that
You caught me, I can't resist the bait.
Vanguard's in-game community is awful. It's a bunch of people like you claiming the game is hardcore when in fact it isn't. Grind does not equal challenge and even the grind isn't as long as we were promised/people claim.
You're talking about gear? Let's get on to that. You could get filthy rich in Vanguard from harvesting or crafting and therefore have the best gear without even playing the adventuring sphere. While it is less gear-dependent than WoW (100% of WoW is what gear you have, so that's not a hard task) it still contradicts your hardcore statement.
You're also forgetting about the "where's the game I was promised" posts. Vanguard is not EQ's big brother. It's easy-mode, dull, empty, piece of garbage. I'm not even talking about bugs, as I've stated before, it's a new MMO so those things happen.
I don't believe you've even played LOTRO. There are no leet attitudes. It's about having fun, which I do in LOTRO and found no trace of in Vanguard.
EDIT: In case you felt like you needed proof that it wasn't hardcore, they've been increasing xp gains drastically since beta. They've decreased mob hp, and increased damage you deal. Yeah...that's really hardcore. Brad's nerfing the game to get people on board, it's like the captain of the Titanic saying "Look! There's still some cake!" as the ship is sinking.
It's a bunch of people like you claiming the game is hardcore when in fact it isn't. Grind does not equal challenge and even the grind isn't as long as we were promised/people claim. Well grinding let's say 25 000 mobs and each mob takes 30s. Putting up that time sounds like a challange for me, sure grinding is a challenge...
Defining hardcore I don't know. I consider mysel a hardcore MMO'er despite that I actually plays the actual specifik game casual. But no no no I don't play Vanguard to be considered hardcore.
woah back up there...if a bigger more empty world is what you call "more content" then lets all stop and think about what we are saying...i guess VG is the place to be after all...pffft...sure if ur having fun then go hard...but everyone else and myself know that VG wont last too long...or it will become a broken down game like some other games that are involved with SOE that i dont care to mention. Vanbois who want to be all high and mighty and stick up for their little empty game (like that one dude who puts up crappy pics for a sig) think that we really care....just go play ur little game....LOTR has WAYYYYY more content...better world to be in...better story...i played LOTR beta alot and really liked it...i played VG beta for like....5 mins...tried my first battle...wasnt really impressed at all...its like EQ took a crap and out came VG....whatever dude...too all vanbois: Dont stick up for a game that later on you same people will be sticking up for another game when this one is dead...remember that...
More content does not equal big world. You just don't want to get my point. I'm talking about quests and stuff to do.
It's cool if you like LOTRO. I liked it too in beta when i played months ago. Solid game. Just not what i'm looking for.

I'd say the Op is delusional, Not everyone left VG because it was to hard, too buggy, too much still in beta to be paying for, too tired of patchs that break something eveytime, yes but not too hard. The OP really needs to stop patting himself on the back because VG really is just not that hard. Ok at times it was hard finding some upper level content, but i hear thats improving. VG is a easy game compared to old EQ so take your elitist crap and go play already. Your opinion that everyone that doesn't like VG is some kinda wimp is just that, your opinion.
End point having more time to play a game doesn't make you a better player, it just means you have more time to spend playing the game. ie Player A spent 2 hours playing and made lvl 2. Player B spent 15 hours playing and made level 3. Which the better payer the one that leveled fast but is lower level or the one that leveled very slowly had a ton of time to waste and is only slightly higher level?

I disagree. I would say same (wanted to say most, but I wont) players that played WOW well, is going to play poorly in VG, and I am not talking about computer wise issues, i am talking about player skills needed to do some quests and how you play as in a group, yes group skills.
VGis a diiferant level of play of WOW.
VG is close to old school EQ but easyer. IF you never played EQ and always wanted to know how skills was needed then give it a try. VG is much easyer then the orginal EQ, but it much harder then all the other dumb down games out there now.
To many wannabee-gamers invest the mmorpg world. They are useless to play with and only creating lag for us the elite. But hey they are fun to jump over in dungeons and hear the cries on the channels. Keep trying kids, keep trying.

First, I came to Vanguard looking for a great crafting system and immersive world. I found both for the most and really enjoyed the adventure game. Why I left? well the number of crafting complications annoyed me beyond words. One is cool or two every now and again, but 4-6 every time put me over the edge and sapped the fun. In addition, all my friends left the game made it hard to want to play.
Harcore? this game didnt feel anymore hardcore than any of the titles out now unless you consider living with chunk lines, corpse runs, slightly longer xp grinds, or living with the MMO community constantly bashing you as hardcore. Was just a little twist in the challenge level to me.
woah back up there...if a bigger more empty world is what you call "more content" then lets all stop and think about what we are saying...i guess VG is the place to be after all...pffft...sure if ur having fun then go hard...but everyone else and myself know that VG wont last too long...or it will become a broken down game like some other games that are involved with SOE that i dont care to mention. You don't know. Yo just pick up what other says and sometimes you even don't manage to do that. Didn't you state VG to be such a good game compared to BC, the day efter BC's release.
So fix the space and if you wants to share your opinion make up one not based on what others opinions are.
no i never liked VG....i dont like anything that even remotely resembles EQ or EQ 2...I only tried beta because 1: i was bored 2: i was waiting to get paid to get another game card for WoW so i think your talking about the wrong guy
OH!! and Orphes....just because i dont sit on the VG section and post in every single thread like you dont mean i dont know...i know whats going on with Sigil and this game...so dont ever tell me what i do and dont know...

I was saying that you based your opinion on what other said, what other tell you to think. You admitted it yourself, indirectly. Refering to the game itself, you better check your own posting history. You thougth Vanguard to better because your friend was disconnected from BC ever 10 or so minutes and as you read on these forums that the beta server for vanguard was getting more stable you decided that it would be a better game. Why would one think that is wasnät the same this time around, getting your opinion like said earlier.
About the Sigil part, it's unlikely that you know more than anyone here. Even more unlikely if you dont follow the discussions regardless of where the forum are at.

Well since you like to troll into other peoples past posts and your mr. IKNOWEVERYTHINGABOUTYOUSOSTFU!! If you know THAT much about a post you might have known the amount of sarcasm that i was putting into it. Come on...Personally IMO i think any game made by anyone having anything to do with the EQ franchise is crap to me.. hell we were even bashing VG while he was waiting for WoW to come back online
And i didnt say i knew more than anyone...get some damn glasses...i said AND I QUOTE!!! "I know whats going on with Sigil and this game" Dude heres reality WHO DOESNT KNOW WHATS GOING ON WITH THIS GAME!! You act like u need to be part of the special "I know whats going on with VG and Sigil" Club...ive read the posts...ive read the articles....and yes....i even have the VG forums AND beta forums bookmarked....so ive done my home work...which means in case you didnt get that...despite what you claim to know...i DO know whats going on....i have followed this game for a long time like i have followed SWG, i even followed DnL as well....so dude...dont act like you know someone when really you dont know crap at all.
I check back here from time to time to see if there are any new patches/content/improvement that might bring me back to Vanguard at some stage.
I must say, the kind of pro-VG posts I see here really do not make it seem like a place I want to be. The main thrust is that people who left or do like Vanguard are not as "hardcore" as those who stayed, have inferior machines, and are childish WoW players. And various other badly spelled insults to boot.
Is this really an argument? I guess the bitterness is deep.
Those of you praising Vanguard might try being a little less abrasive if you would like players back. Might I also suggest, if you are so content with your game, that you just play it and not come trolling over here and casting aspersions? On the other hand, if you have something constructive to say, please do - I would like to know if VG is getting better.
In the meantime, LOTRO truly is proving a delight, so I will stay there for the time being.
Prove me wrong and I will gladly praise your game of choice...because you know what? I'm not wrong, and anyone who has played knows that
SO....hardcore=timesink? Or what? Kind of hard to argue the point without clarification here. What makes VG 'hardcore" other than it takes longer to do the same stuff you can do in any other game? You have to 'click' your mouse more or something? Push a button on the keyboard more? What exactly do you mean by hardcore?
See you in the dream.. The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
I play Vanguard, and i like it. I'm not hardcore, and most certainly not a lazy lifeless puke. I played WoW, enjoyed it for some time and sold up after I became bored.
I do not believe Vangaurd is solo for Hardcore. I certainly think it requires a more mature audience, hence the reason it will never match WoW or LotRO. Finally I like Vanguard because it's a pixel pusher, it makes my PC sweat, it makes me feel that my hard earned Hardware is doing what I paid it to do, I know that spotty 12 year olds are going to be at a minimum.
PS Man, are you sure you are not a Clairvoyant? I am surprised Sigil and SOE have not hired your expertise.
Oh that's right...you actually have no idea do you?
Vanguard has the best community? Ha, that's hilarious. Vanguard is filled with a small population of fanboy nitwits that think EQ was and still is the greatest MMO out there. You think you're "hardcore" because you played the first game to step in the direction of what MMO's are now. Frankly, EQ was not that amazing. UO was much better in it's prime, and the free servers you'll find for it are also much better. Depth is what makes a good MMO, not tons of character options. Anywho, most of you Vanguard diehards don't realize that you did, in fact, kill your game. The player base will not grow, SOE WILL take over, and the game WILL collapse when the new MMO line-up starts coming. Age of Conan anyone? Warhammer anyone? Sure, they're more "accessible" and "noob friendly"... but guess what? That's what the majority of the MMO community wants, believe it or not. Being "hardcore" does not make you a better MMO player, it just makes you an asshole.
Complete slide show on a rig that well exceeds recommended requirements.
Broken classes.
Fighting spiders in order to fight more spiders that lead you to a spider lair, where you can fight even bigger spiders!
Lack of helms (I don't know why this bothered me so much, a DK is not a DK without a helm I guess)
Declining playerbase...
And the last straw was the rumors SOE was to take it over... I am resubbing to EQ2 since EoF looks to be awesome, so I am not as anti SOE as I have been in the past... Its just that VG already changing hands really points to a sinking ship. SOE won't prioritize this as their premeir title either. The have G & H and the DC MMO on the way, VG will become like MxO and become more of an afterthought than a contantly developed and improved upon game...
It's a bunch of people like you claiming the game is hardcore when in fact it isn't. Grind does not equal challenge and even the grind isn't as long as we were promised/people claim. WoW has the worst community, that's pretty obvious. When you have an easy-mode crap game you're going to attract all the people who like those games, people who'd rather pretend they're 1337 because they have more time than to actually challenge themselves.
Grinding is not a challenge but a timesink. Under the "takes more time thus is harder" idea, lifting a car would be easier than sitting down for 8 hours. Grindfests are boring, see FFXI for an example.
I left because of the abundance of low level quests and feeling compelled (not forced) to do them for the best experience point gain. I felt my character was sort of led around and that the world was too big. Yeah, you don't have to do the quests, but you advance slower if you don't. And if you do the quests, you're on a linear track, pretty much.
I really wanted to see a game with smaller, but better defined (i.e., more distinct and flavorful) zones, and a sense of mystery. The thing I liked most about EQ1, and had hoped to enjoy in Vanguard, was the feeling of logging in and having free choice and incentive to adventure in any direction.
You may like Ryzom; if you haven't looked at it before.

Well first of all, VG is far from hard core. If you want hard core, go to EQ1.
I left for a wide range of reasons, but the main ones were just a feeling of everything I did I had "been there, done that" before. There was very little new, interesting, or innovative in VG. And pretty trees can only carry a game so far.
Travel times and other things were issues, but I could have lived with those if I felt I was really going to see something new to MMO's around the next corner. I didn't - all I saw was yet another spider.
The people who are bashing Vanguard for LOTRO and WoW dont want a challenge. Prove me wrong and I will gladly praise your game of choice...because you know what? I'm not wrong, and anyone who has played knows that
I'm not going to bash Vanguard. But I am going to clarify your mis-characterization of LOTRO. Challenge exists in LOTRO, but it is a choice, not forced on you by the game system. Some so-called Sandbox enthusiasts (not all) for some reason despise the choice of questing or grinding mobs that exists in LOTRO, and prefer the linear model of purely grinding MOBs. They prefer that the game direct you to what level MOBs to grind on while then complaining that LOTRO has choices of content and difficulty. And I'm fine with these pseudo-sandboxers...just don't try to claim LOTRO is somehow less challenging because you have a choices.

Vanguard is an excellent game and is for hardcore and non-hardcore players. It is for those that love to group for those that love to solo. Tons of quests, and great graphics. You can be a pure Crafter, pure Adventurer or even a pure Diplomat if you so desire. Diplomats are use a card gaming system btw.
If you are bored with your old games you really need to go to this one, don't wait for a free trial.
large amount of playable classes and races.
A MMO is like life. It is something to cherish and enjoy upon in it journey. So why race to the end of it. In life at the end you die.

Yeah...that's really hardcore. Brad's nerfing the game to get people on board, it's like the captain of the Titanic saying "Look! There's still some cake!" as the ship is sinking.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Well said!!I disagree.
Triston Master Carbine/Master Swords (SWG Eclipse)
Triston 29 Warden (EQ2 Permafrost)
Weland 70 Hunter (WoW Hellscream)
Suidan 36 Cleric (Vanguard Flamehammer)
Suidan 50 Champion (LOTR Gladden)

no i never liked VG....i dont like anything that even remotely resembles EQ or EQ 2...I only tried beta because 1: i was bored 2: i was waiting to get paid to get another game card for WoW so i think your talking about the wrong guy
OH!! and Orphes....just because i dont sit on the VG section and post in every single thread like you dont mean i dont know...i know whats going on with Sigil and this game...so dont ever tell me what i do and dont know...

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
I resent your comment
Oh that's right...you actually have no idea do you?
zip..........
zip..........
Now shut the hell up.
Now you have that off your chest, isn't your bottle ready?
Night night
Chump
I will tell you why I left, pretty simple:
Very hard to find groups.
The future is very grim for this game
