I decided to give another chance, ran through setup of another character, hit Tanvu and started my Sorcerer. Character animations are still lacking badly (need that stick pulled out of my arse), swimming and water effects are horrible, and I have seen 3 people in my first 3 nights back and they wouldn't even respond to tells. I'm only 8th level and I'm going to play until my month is up but I'm thinking I won't be staying after that. It does run better than it used to, i will say that has improved drastically. I have a nice rig with 4Gig RAM, EN 8800 GTS video card and I've got it maxxed out with no problems except the occasional skip in town. (No players, just npc's) I really want to like the game but for my experience so far there is no community, the animations are stiff and unbelievealbe, and the water effects are terrible. I cancelled all 3 of my WoW accounts and am just waiting and looking for something that grabs me, so far the search is still in vain.
This is a 'next gen' game and I am sorry if your hardware is not up to par with 'next gen' gaming.
Probably not nearly as sorry as the former Sigil employees.
LOL no kidding.
the fact is these vanbois can keep spouting that crap about how the rest of us are running out of date equipment but if SOE doesn't get the performance issues resolved they will continue to watch the community get smaller and smaller.
People will not pay to play a game that runs like crap and is no fun to play.

Also, just to clear things up, I dont REALLY feel sorry for people not playing Vanguard. The thread title was in response to the thread titled: "I feel sorry for Vanguard players" that was my inspiration to create this account and post this thread in the first place. If you dont like VG, the please do not play it, because I wouldnt want any of the people posting here to get in the way of the beauty of VG. Although you would be easy infamy for me.
Also, if you gave VG a chance, and quit, then I did not post this for you. I posted this for potential subscribers that are not giving this game a chance because of all the flamers on this board. Something I do not understand is why so many NON Vanguard players visit these forums just to bash the game. Yesterday, the posts VG boards made up close to half of the total posts on the spy list from 12-5!! For such a tiny population of players, VG is definitely having an impact on the MMO fanbase, and thats a start I guess...
Wow 8 pages on my first post here...Mod: go ahead and make it a sticky so people stop polluting the board with "Brad broke my heart " posts so we can get down to some constructive conversation. Is it only me that is sick of reading "This is my opinion why VG sucks!!"?
The problem with your original post was that instead of just highlighting what you liked about VG, you went on to bash other games and thereby the people that play them. The tone of your post was very condescending and elitist, which seems to be the norm for many VG players. If you and people like healz4u are representative of the Vg community then I'm glad I don't play anymore. I'd rather get spammed by gold farmers in WoW every 2 mins than play a game with a community like VG's.

We bash because we care. If relaying our negative experiences and opinions prevents even one innocent gamer from wasting his or her money on the disaster that is VG.... our efforts have not been in vain. VG supporters are a cancer that must be exorcised from the gaming body.........
And it must only be you...cause I enjoy these threads and don't mind reading them....

OK champ im gonna spit a little VG knowledge at ya. This is comming from a person who hit the high 40's and has scene the content at 50.
Im not here to bitch because there is not raid content. Not at all the game still needs to fucking RUN before we see any raid content. To say the game had "bugs here and there" is assanine. Apparently youve never been to any dungeon ever with a full group to grind xp, or attempt weapon and armor quests/attunement. It dosent matter what dungeon it is either. Everything from Lyceum to Raz'zinkur has the worst goddamn clip boundarys ive seen in the history of gaming, not just MMO's. I sware I, or a guildie, have to /stuck yes and get called back into a dungeon at least 5 times a run on any given day. Thats content from level 15 all the way to 50. All dungeons. it includes everything inbetween. Graystone is rough too.
You said that Vanguard is a "Next Gen" MMO. By every sense of the word, your soooo wrong. While there may be some "fresh" ideas that actually made it to "beta 6" (because god knows the game isnt really anywhere near being a shippable game) there is nothing Next Gen about it. Graphics are moderate and running at a shittily unoptimized level. They are using an advanced version of the Unreal 2 engine, which is a decent engine, not next gen though. And dont give me the "ZOMG you must be downsyndromed because my l33t machine runs it at a steady 50 fps." Get the hell out of wide open Qalia and into some of the dungeons. Hell, there isnt even correct fucking driver support for the 8800 GTS and thats as NEXT fucking GEN as you can get for a Video card.
The PVP in the game is bullshit it was thrown in as an afterthought. I would have rathered it not be in untill it was ready. I know I know the game was made for PvE but a far as im concerned that shit is going the way of Ol' Yeller. Its boring and to be honest. one of the Time sinks you mentioned.
There ISNT something for everyone in the game. Well i take that back there shouldnt have been. It was catared towards the hardcore crowd, priding itsself on being a difficult feat to get to 50. Well that was a crock of shit when they decided to have 2 double EXP weekends back to back and after that to top it off, change the exp rate to +60% of origional exp rate. Hiting 50 around 2 months is pretty hardcore i guess.
the game needs to be renamed Vanguard: Saga of layoffs and the sigil headquarters lit aflame along with your crappy ass reasons to play vanguard.
if anyone reads this please wait to see what SoE does with it. Though ive never seen SoE do a single good thing with a game its the only chance you have left at a decent vanguard. And its a sad world when SoE has to try and fix a game that they didnt break themselves.
Sold my account and im waiting for something decent. I am still crossing my fingers for a KOTOR MMO but Warhammer is in my sights right now. Yey for Meaningful PVP.

Just a bit of advice, get out of Tanvu and take the teleporter to Thestra. You should be able to find more players in the starting areas at Thestra. Tanvu/Kojan is not the right place to enjoy the game.

You are probably the worst writer I have ever seen (Not scene) that was trying to both be serious and sound holier-than-thou. You are an idiot, and lose all credibility by virtue of being so stupid.
"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."
John Parry, to his son Will; "The Subtle Knife," by Phillip Pullman
The real deal is many current Vanguard players are trying to convince others this game is good. The problem is they're also trying to convince themselves the same thing and that they are in fact having fun. C'mon, guys, this is so transparent.
Trying to convince yourself that you're having one hell of a time playing this scrap heap is one thing and you might get away with it being it's yourself but now you're trying to also convince others? Like the old adage, "Misery loves company".

I love he game, since launch, and it just gets better. Now if someone asks for an opinion, I am going to give him the positives and the negatives, but you could always expect a bias on my part, since I adore this game. It is people like you that try to convince US that we are not enjoying ourselves. That is a tad hypocrite isn't it?

The guy made a couple spelling mistakes, i'm sure you feel better about your self now for calling him out on it.... But anyway he makes good valid points that I agree with. Calling him 'stupid' is very mature of you.
If its so good then why was it sold ? (Certainly not because of the millions of fans throwing money at Sigel to play it) If its so good why does almost no one want to play it? I mean the server population is low for a reason, and as far as the great VG community you gotta be kidding me! All you Vanbois do is pat yourself on the back because your hardcore enough to do the dull boring repetative grind that is VG. Thanks to SOE taking over Sigel VG won't die for awhile but since they've already stated they aren't gonna do anything with it but fix bugs I don't see ever becoming half as good as EQ2.
In a nutshell VG had its chance, some 150K players tried it, the majority (over half of those 150K) decided it stank and are no longer playing for a reason, and it darn well sure isn't because its the greatest MMORPG out.

Its pretty clear to me. VG would be the greatest game out there if not for all the haters who continually tear it down for no reason and chase away new players.

Guess i must jump in here ....... I still have vanguard but for only 1 reason it's part of my station access account
i get to play all of soe games for one price..... that is the only reason i see vanguard even has people left in my opinion cause it isnt worth 14.99 a month. i rather play swg than vanguard if that tells ya anything. soe might as well kill the old horse and lay it to rest cause it will only be a money sink for soe nothing more! when the next mmo comes out be it aoc or warhammer etc it will be dead except those on station access thats it!
If you aren't part of the Vanguard community, you are seriously missing out. Not only is it the best MMO out right now, but the best MMO we have seen in a long time. Seriously, what is out now? WoW is a cartoon on a computer, and EQ, UO, and DAoC are just not the same anymore. What coming out soon? AoC looks ok, but the whole no targeting thing is very risky and the theme of the game looks like it only appeals to a certain niche. Warhammer is a WoW clone, plain and simple. Plenty of people on this forum take pride in how many aspects of VG they can point out that take away from the game, but is that really the way to look at things? I'll run through some cons first just for all you bandwagon haters.
Cons:
Performance - While the game is unoptimized, and bugs appear here and there, I see nothing wrong with the 40-50 constant fps I get with my 7900GTX 512mb card. This is a 'next gen' game and I am sorry if your hardware is not up to par with 'next gen' gaming. Bashing Vanguard because your video card sucks is almost as stupid as the guy who was bashing it because his download was taking too long. Not to mention, up until recently (with the whole Sigil giving it to SOE deal), patches were being issued every Wednesday, without fail. True, we STILL dont have helmet graphics, but if you play MMO's for helmet graphics then dont play this game.
Population - Many have also complained of low server population. There is no denying this. This can be mostly attributed to the terrible rep VG has been given (half given, half earned). It was a rough start, and many people were quick to yell "FAILURE!!! ITS A FAILURE OMG!!!". Brad made a big mistake breaking promises from the start, but it was hardly his fault anyways. Blame SOE if anyone. With all the trolls out there who seem to have more fun hating the game than playing it, VG is having a rough time gaining subscriptions and keeping them as well. As soon as people start realizing that most of these haters are just followers with no opinions of their own, population will increase.
Pros:
Graphics - Simply amazing. No other MMO can even try to claim they have better. While many of the graphics are not completed, what is in game is finely detailed. From character models to landscapes, this game has it all. Effects like Atmospheric Distortion create an environment that really stands out. This can be trouble for some people who do not have the power to handle graphics like these, but like I said, upgrade or miss out.
Something for Everyone - It is almost guaranteed that you will find a role to play in the world of Telon. If you like adventuring, like most, the variety of race/class combinations are sure to satisfy you. With 15 classes in game, you are sure to find a fighting style to fit your preference. If combat is not in your nature, choose crafting or diplomacy. Both of these gain you wealth and partnerships as you gain levels. Server play-style is also fantastic in this game. They made sure to create a world for everyone. While most of the servers are PvE, they also include Team PvP, and FFA PvP as well. These rules do not lie. PvE is strictly that, and FFA PvP is also what it claims to be -- FFA. Kill anyone, anywhere, anytime. I think many MMO's have failed to provide a decent no-safe-zone environment in the past, and if they did they were probably Korean grind - all - day games. The variety doesnt stop there. There are three different continents to choose from, also with their own housing and boat building styles. Oh yeah...did I mention there is boating and housing? Add that to the list. Also, there are already many UI mods to apply, to create an interface that maximizes your abilities for your class. As you can see, this game could be played many different ways, you just have to find the one that fits you.
Community - This is probably the thing that makes me love VG as much as I do. The people who play the game are great. If you are a WoW player, and are sick of wiping due to 10 yr old noobs who dont know anything about aggro control, VG may be a good switch for you. The community is full of adult level players, most of which who have played one or more MMO's in the past. I meet very few who are not serious about the game, and the kids who cant survive due to lack of skills dont last very long (and probably make up most of the trolls on this board ). A lot of people call this MMO "hardcore", because you cannot get on for 2 hours a day after elementary school and make much progress. If you consider yourself a "hardcore" player, with time to dedicate, this game truly gives back for the time you put in.
And so, for all of you people who say "I will never think of giving this game a chance because [insert troll name here] says it sucks LOL!!!11!" ; think again. I would hate to see this game go down, when it, even at this stage of the game, has SO much potential. Personally, I am loving every second of this game, and I await every patch with anticipation. Sorry for the novel, but im pretty bored at work and I think this board really needed a post to let the unaware know whats up instead of letting the trolls take over. To all you current VG players: Stick with it guys! I know its hard when everyone out here is flaming us, but remember the reason you play MMO's in the first place!
Ok now how can you sit and not want people to bash VG when you bashed almost every MMO out in this post. I dont use this term much but your obviously a fanboi. You only pointed out the Pros and the good sides to the game, why not show the other side, every game has its downsides. VG is decent yes, but its not great. and saying that all these other games coming out arent great, its your sad opinion, AoC already has a player base higher then VG and its not even released, So you might wanna research before pulling this move or you will get flamed
So true.
Hahahaha.
Dont you love it when people tell you what you like? I mean obviously this guy knows whats best for us!
Winter: Im not patting myself on the back for anything other than standing up for VG, the game I feel deserves a lot more credit than people give it. I could name 10 other MMO's that have ten times harder grind than VG. Any MMO that is produced in the US probably does not have THAT hard of a grind. Try a Korean MMO if you like intense grinding.
Hmm, obviously you didnt see the section labeled CONS.
Also, I did not bash every other game...
I said WoW is a cartoon run by young people, and people who have never played an MMO before. This is not bashing, just not what I'm looking for in a game. EQ, UO, and DAoC were FANTASTIC games, I merely said their time has passed. I'll admit the Warhammer clone statement was a bit of a stretch, but if you put the two side by side, it would be tough to tell the two apart. Sadly, all the 14 yr olds who are sick of WoW by now are all drooling over WAR due to their similarities and over-hype, and my guess is most of WARs community will be made of up these type of players. I just feel like the market that WAR is targeting is not the same market I want to be playing with. So have fun babysitting!

I was in Beta for Vanguard and Lineage II. Both we're actually very similiar in that you did little quests for XP and then grinded mobs for more XP. VG may have housing and boats and stuff but in general you have to grind to get to them just like you have to grind in Lineage II to get to the PvP part. I didn't buy Lineage II at release due to lack of content but even it was more polished and ran better and looked better than VG and it is a good bit older. I think it is a lost cause for VG. Most Korean games need very little reason to get their populace to grind. Here is a game with some big eyed adrogynous avatars with big swords. You need to grind for gold. That's all they generally need. Western games more and more need to disguise their grind with Lore and polish and VG simply didn't have either of these things to help it limp along.

What exactly are you trying to say here? All western MMO's are just a grindfest masked by lore and good graphics?
This is where many of our differences may lie. Some of you may play MMO's for this reason. If its pretty and the story behind it gives me reason to grind, then I dont mind grinding. Personally, I HATE grinding, and no amount of lore or "polish" can make it any better. I dont like grinding in VG any more than I liked grinding in L2.
I really cant comment on VG as a PvE game. I play on an FFA PVP server. This is the only way I think I could have fun on VG, or any MMO for that matter. If PvP is not an element of a MMO, I dont play it. If I am interested in a story line, why play a non linear game? For a good story I would go back to Suikoden on Playstation, or hell, read a book. The point is, if you dont grind, you dont get better, and in an extremely competitive MMO PVP environment, getting better is a must. I truly respect the fact that VG gives us this FFA PvP option, because not many MMO's do. If you find VG boring, come on over to the Tharridon server and let me show you how to have some fun.

Hahaha what a Joke!
VG the best MMORPG out?
WAR is a WoW clone? I think some of you may very well be high.
Have you even looked at the two games?
It's like saying Star Trek Online is a clone of Stargate Online because they both have Star in their name.

That's all they generally need. Western games more and more need to disguise their grind with Lore and polish and VG simply didn't have either of these things to help it limp along.
