Vanguard is so bad it has collapsed, it won't even pay for itself, thats how "great" the game is, no one wants to play!

If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)

Sorry for the novel, but im pretty bored at work and I think this board really needed a post to let the unaware know whats up instead of letting the trolls take over.  To all you current VG players: Stick with it guys!  I know its hard when everyone out here is flaming us, but remember the reason you play MMO's in the first place!

No offense but, most people with a sensible head on their shoulders aren't going to pay a monthly fee for nothing but "potential." Clearly there are, people like you, and that's why unethical companies like SOE are still around milking your money. I find that pretty sad honestly. They should take this piece of crap off life support and just let it die it is a failure and IMO the pinnacle of over-hyped, unimaginative, poorly produced MMOs.

Does anyone here know why so many players don't give a damn about the "potential" of Vanguard anymore?

I've been hearing about this game's "potential" since Beta 4.

Even when the game released prematurely, the die hard fans assured everyone "Don't worry, the game will get better in around 3-6 months, and it will live up to it's potential"

Well, that time is dawning on us, and while there have been some improvements, they haven't been drastic enough to draw me back into this game, and apparently they failed to draw in other players as well.

So forgive me if I'm tired of hearing about "potential", but if after 5 years of production, and 4 months after release, your game hasn't turned that "potential" into tangible entertainment, well, than I rightly can't say I give a damn about it's "potential" anymore.

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

Well said Cymdai.  I pay for results and fun.  Not potential.  Hell, I did'nt even accept the trial keys I was given because I did'nt think it would be fair to play this game in it's current condition.   I also saved $50 by switching back to WoW...not to mention all the money I saved by not having to buy a new computer.

    Cons:

Performance - While the game is unoptimized, and bugs appear here and there, I see nothing wrong with the 40-50 constant fps I get with my 7900GTX 512mb card.  This is a 'next gen' game and I am sorry if your hardware is not up to par with  'next gen' gaming.  Bashing Vanguard because your video card sucks is almost as stupid as the guy who was bashing it because his download was taking too long. Not to mention, up until recently (with the whole Sigil giving it to SOE deal), patches were being issued every Wednesday, without fail.  True, we STILL dont have helmet graphics, but if you play MMO's for helmet graphics then dont play this game.

Population - Many have also complained of low server population.  There is no denying this.  This can be mostly attributed to the terrible rep VG has been given (half given, half earned).  It was a rough start, and many people were quick to yell "FAILURE!!! ITS A FAILURE OMG!!!".  Brad made a big mistake breaking promises from the start, but it was hardly his fault anyways.  Blame SOE if anyone.  With all the trolls out there who seem to have more fun hating the game than playing it, VG is having a rough time gaining subscriptions and keeping them as well.  As soon as people start realizing that most of these haters are just followers with no opinions of their own, population will increase.

    Pros:

Graphics - Simply amazing.  No other MMO can even try to claim they have better.  While many of the graphics are not completed, what is in game is finely detailed.  From character models to landscapes, this game has it all.  Effects like Atmospheric Distortion create an environment that really stands out.  This can be trouble for some people who do not have the power to handle graphics like these, but like I said, upgrade or miss out.

Something for Everyone - It is almost guaranteed that you will find a role to play in the world of Telon.  If you like adventuring, like most, the variety of race/class combinations are sure to satisfy you.  With 15 classes in game, you are sure to find a fighting style to fit your preference.  If combat is not in your nature, choose crafting or diplomacy.  Both of these gain you wealth and partnerships as you gain levels.  Server play-style is also fantastic in this game.  They made sure to create a world for everyone.  While most of the servers are PvE, they also include Team PvP, and FFA PvP as well.  These rules do not lie.  PvE is strictly that, and FFA PvP is also what it claims to be -- FFA.  Kill anyone, anywhere, anytime.  I think many MMO's have failed to provide a decent no-safe-zone environment in the past, and if they did they were probably Korean grind - all - day games.  The variety doesnt stop there.  There are three different continents to choose from, also with their own housing and boat building styles.  Oh yeah...did I mention there is boating and housing?  Add that to the list.  Also, there are already many UI mods to apply, to create an interface that maximizes your abilities for your class.  As you can see, this game could be played many different ways, you just have to find the one that fits you.

Community - This is probably the thing that makes me love VG as much as I do.  The people who play the game are great.  If you are a WoW player, and are sick of wiping due to 10 yr old noobs who dont know anything about aggro control, VG may be a good switch for you.  The community is full of adult level players, most of which who have played one or more MMO's in the past.  I meet very few who are not serious about the game, and the kids who cant survive due to lack of skills dont last very long (and probably make up most of the trolls on this board ).  A lot of people call this MMO "hardcore", because you cannot get on for 2 hours a day after elementary school and make much progress.   If you consider yourself a "hardcore" player, with time to dedicate, this game truly gives back for the time you put in.

And so, for all of you people who say "I will never think of giving this game a chance because [insert troll name here] says it sucks LOL!!!11!" ;  think again.  I would hate to see this game go down, when it, even at this stage of the game, has SO much potential.  Personally, I am loving every second of this game, and I await every patch with anticipation. If you want team PvP, go buy Guild Wars everyone, only cost you the box set (£9.99 now) no sub. :)  As for housing, pffft  might as well play EQ2, looks better, runs better and doesn't crash. amazing.

population - people still play this?  Wait.. do you guys actually PAY SUBS? to play a broken game until it's fixed? hope not

performance - sucks, even SoE has said this once it bought it over and it'll take time to fix... The actual requirements on the game box are a joke, that should never have gotten past quality standards, since they downright LIE to the customer.

Go on.... it'll be in the bargain bin like Auto Assault (£4.99 from gamestation) before the summer is out =] hell at least WoW is £9.99 and you're guranteed to get the money's worth out of it.

    lol you're funny.

There are 80+ year olds that play games with "tiger heads" "fox heads" and "dog heads," including EQ2. One of my old guildies was that age.

Am I the only one that thinks this sounds like an Ad for that game

Most of this is just iluvVG (good choice of named by the way) slandering other games and its players while trying their best to advertise Vanguard, I'm all for this post being wiped from the forum for being a Ad but hey what do I know I'm 10years old that is a forum troll that betad VG and now plays a game with graphics so bad that it just about runs on my 286.

Take this anyway you want to but if we wanted ADs in the forums would'nt they be on a click panel at the top/side or a pop up?

Huhhh?  Hardly not Brad's fault!? If Brad McQuaid learnt how to refain from blabbering and overhyping on the non-existant amazing features in Vanguard while Sigil was struggling like hell to even put the basic game together The Trainwreck would have been WAY better off. The damage to the game's reputation would have been less severe. His leadership "skills" as well as the "skills" of the other top guys were the very foundation of Sigil's failure. It's hard to feel pity for Brad McQuaid sure he's a passionate guy and had he not been in a leadership position The Trainwreck may have not turned into The Trainwreck but something truly amazing.

And Blame SOE? I'm not the biggest fan of SOE (but EQ2 keeps on improving with every expansion I have to admit) but they had nothing to do with its failure, they're actually doing a favour by taking on the momumental effort of repairing The Trainwreck. I'm having a hard time being optimistic about all this but SOE just might bring The Trainwreck into what it should be, but at this stage I don't really give a crap.

I'll never understand why people do this.  Can you provide a source for your numbers?

The GMs are fed up of being told how much XP people have lost due to dying. The memory leak is awful (i thought LOTRO in bree was bad) and to top it all off you're trying to say it's a good game.

What information did you use to come up with the first sentence?  I was under the impression that the memory leak was fixed, at least I haven't encountered any.  But to put it into perspective, I played Lineage 2 at release and for the better part of 2 years.  There was a memory leak in towns a year and a half after release that prevented me from selling anything because I would CTD after about 15 minutes of sitting.

Graphics - mean nothing in long term, a good game will keep you going back, it's why games such as Halo 2, C&C (decade edition is awesome) and of course retro games on the 360 marketplace etc etc are all doing so WELL. I mean i might buy a mansion but if i fill the mansion with shit, it's not going to change is it?

My brother who is a year older then me, me being 30, loves to play emulated games on his PC, and buys a lot of retro games.  Me, I can't stand them.  I'm a graphics whore and so are many others.  If graphics didn't matter then no one would have made a console beyond the commadore or atari.  As far as graphics meaning somehting in the long term, yes they do mean something.  How many people complain about outdated looking graphics in an MMO around here?  Why do developers of not just MMO's continue to build engines and graphics that people will find pleasing a few years down the road.

Community - yeah as deluded as the DDO community *as they huggle for warmth repeating the mantra* "we are a WoW killer, we are a WoW killer"

Something for everyone -  team PvP... is NOT PvP... *cough* when you lie at least try and make it sound convincing. If you want team PvP, go buy Guild Wars everyone, only cost you the box set (£9.99 now) no sub. :)  As for housing, pffft  might as well play EQ2, looks better, runs better and doesn't crash. amazing.

Highlighted statement makes me think you didn't play the game.  There is a FFA server, but regardless if I can kill another player then it's PvP; even if it's team based.  By the way, DAoC is a PvP game, and it's also team based.  EQ2 crashes once or twice a play session for me, I don't know why, but VG hasn't crashed once since prerelease, for me at least.

population - people still play this?  Wait.. do you guys actually PAY SUBS? to play a broken game until it's fixed? hope not

You call the OP a liar and then you make a statement with the word broken.  Since the game is running for me, and the OP as well as thousands of others then it must not be broken.

performance - sucks, even SoE has said this once it bought it over and it'll take time to fix... The actual requirements on the game box are a joke, that should never have gotten past quality standards, since they downright LIE to the customer.

The lowest video setting will run the game on the minumum system requirements, I've seen it first hand.  If you have the min. and try to run at balance, and get poor performance, that's not the games fault.   There are performance issues.  The time it takes to load a new zone for the first time, the couple seconds it takes to cross a chunk, the high polly count of other players causing a dip in fps, as well as towns causing a dip in fps.  Know what other game had the exact same problems when it was released, with one excpetion, the chunking, WoW.  WoW uses a dif. skeleton for each race, this was causing a lot of problems at release for performance as it would take quite a while for characters to load on the screen,  Crossing chunks would cause pets to vanish, and in some cases hunters would lose thier pets.

Go on.... it'll be in the bargain bin like Auto Assault (£4.99 from gamestation) before the summer is out =] hell at least WoW is £9.99 and you're guranteed to get the money's worth out of it.

You may not be aware of this, but unlike console games, PC games tend to drop in price rather quickly regardless of it's popularity.  Like you pointed out, WoW is in the bargain bin.

    Wish Darkfall would release.

Vanguard is the Auto Assault of Fantasy, BTW does Brad even play his own game? Never seen him actually state that he or any of his former managers at Sigil play VG, interesting that isn't it? Maybe it's just that they have crappy gaming rigs and are too tight to buy one to run Vanguard?

Honestly don't feel bad for us who choose not to continue playing VSoH after Beta.  IMO the game sucks, it runs horrible and doesn't live up to half the hype in terms of visuals.  You should envy us for saving our money for a good MMO.

Since when did Vanguard beta end? You must be a pseudo Vanbois, either that or Smed has used the force and influenced you to post this in a moment of weakness! Vanguard never left the Beta stage, the game wasn't even being properly developed until 15 months before launch and all the money had dried up! To whoever pitys me for not subing to VG, I'm feeling good basking in your pity ATM please send more!

LOL.. When I read the part in blue, I got the image of the game devs reading his novels.. err.. posts... saying.. "What in the hell is he talking about?! Will someone shut him up?"

    Heheh..

That's a link to a compilation of featurs in VG.  The information is over a year old, and you'll notice a lack of the word guarantee and promise.

What is said a few times is something along the lines of, it may not make it at release, but will be added shortly after.

    Wish Darkfall would release.

although you make good points all this is is your opinion.  everyone likes and dislikes different things.  and say what you will age of conan will be the best mmo.  no negative thoughts please dont jinx it.  and with no targeting means you can focus on more than one guy since you can hit more people when you swing.  also warhammer is not a wow clone since it focuses on pvp and wow pvp sucks.  get your facts straight b4 sayin them.

I played Vanguard on a 10-day trial. I didn't quit because of performance, I was playing on my way outdated AMD 1700+ XD (~1.6 ghz), 1gig ram and a Radeon X700 graphics card. It was playable, just boring. And no, I never crashed, or died from lag, or any other performance issues.

I quit because grinding levels in not one, but 3 different aspects of the game, was ridiculous. Creating different content (diplomacy, crafting, and adventuring), but requiring advancement in them in much the same way, is not original content. If you don't want your game to be considered a boring grind, you need to create a better AI for the creatures. Combat is not enjoyable by running up and smacking whichever monster is nearest. DAoC city of Ascalon is still my personal reference for enjoyable combat. Every engagement there required careful agro management, well assigned group roles, and carefully considered target calling. Run correctly a group could succeed where only raid groups would go.

Finally, in 10 days, I saw one other player. That's not underpopulated servers, that is a dead game.
