That's what the Devs said, that's what they're heading for.
The PvE Part will, in conclusion, exist so when you're feeling tired, and just want to do something meaningful without the thrill of PvP, you can do it.
There are only 6 high end dungeons planned for release AFAIK (1 for each race).
The Best Loot will come from the RvR Campaign, when sacking the enemy city, same with the best Crafting Materials.
(Though they won't be so insanely stronger than other stuff, to prevent a Gear-Centric PvP)
To compare the 6 Dungeons with another Number: Mythic is planning for 150+ different PvP Scenarios.
So really don't expect anything great from the Endgame-PvE Part. Or better said: Don't expect anything large in the Endgame PvE Part, because the small things Mythic will add for Endgame PvE, will be great anyway, but there won't be much of it.
To repeat the first rule of WAR: If you don't like PvP, don't play WAR. If do like PvP however, you'll have an absolute Blast playing WAR.
Well said.
Playing: Everthing Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW. I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
I would have no troubles with a game that ends. Once you reach the final status, you may indulge in PvP, start a new toon, or switch game. As to the guy saying that missing achievers isn't bad in a MMO-RPG...well...weither you admit it or not, you have a big achieving component yourself if you are enjoying RPGs instead of shooters or whatever other non-achieving games (Myst for real explorers). Having an END where you are done and it is over from an achieving point of view is perfectly good with someone like me. Having to raid, or to RvR, to acquires the last part....noooooooooh
What I don't understand is why you have to play MMORPGs then?
Why not play single player RPGs, like The Elder Scrolls and such?
You have no grinding, no raiding, no RvR/PvP, and you can complete it, dominate everything up in the game until the last boss, get better and better stats and gear while you progress through the game. Then, once you're finished, you replay with another character or try another game.
Is it because there you can't show off how good you are to other players? Is it about the communities - but those kind of games got them too, like people developing add-ons, player made modules and such (NWN for example) ... I just don't get it, sorry.because you refuse to see it
if you spare just three brain cells to think about it you might come up with the answers
maybe something along the lines of a much more dynamic world - blah blah blah
a heck of a lot more interesting economy
there, that should have given you a jump start - carry on from here
refuse to see what? Look if you don't like it just because it doesn't have large amounts of PvE? Or because they aren't really interested in making a game that revolves around gold, items, etc... I hate to sound like a broken record but if you don't like it DON'T play it.
Do not answer to this post let this thread die it has became a moot thread.
I'm mostly with Anofalye and whaty she said about candy. I always loved cars and mechanical stuff and while the end car is part of the deal, a LARGER part of the end car was the almost endless combinations of parts you could equip it with. I like TONS of different gear, it doesn't necessarily have to be hugely better but if all you do is "drive the car" to stay with my analogy it WILL get boring. WoW filled my niche of gear but killed my hopes by making it near impossible for me to get as I could NOT spend the time needed or find an ELITE end game guild to raid. I could care less if I get my candy by PvP, or PvE but I need something that sets me apart from the masses, some unique or at least uncommon combination of gear that people will recognize me by. The "coolness" factor of the gear also matters to me. If everyone has the same lame looking cookie cutter gear it leaves no room for individuality( a staple of western culture). Individualism is an important part in our culture and this is why communal games that people typically lable as "asian" don't work in the states. We crave individualism and recognition( I generalize). With out at least some level of it, a part of the potential player audience will be lost. Will it have players? Sure. It all depends who the devs are willing to cater to. I left WoW because I had to be a slave to the game to get anything and if I wasn't with the hard-core elitists who can raid every day, I wouldn't get jack squat. WoW is a gear-driven game which can be a good thing but what they end up doing is dangling a carrot in front of the faces of millions of people who have no way to get it. There has to be some ongoing motivation to play other than the intrinsic value of PvP or for that matter PvE. The nature of human beings is, to one degree or another, gain-seeking, materialistic, and selfish which is evidence by how we behave as a whole in the world. Not everyone is, not everyone fits the mold, but a LARGE portion do. Having said that, the most effective way to motivate people to play is by giving them their "Candy", people want the candy; if you make it too hard to get the candy, people will get frustrated and bored ands top playing. If the candy doesnt taste good enough no one will want the candy and have no motivation to earn the candy. If the quest to get the candy is not fun, but the candy is good, many will hang in there for the candy. If they expect to get a huge audience of generic players they will not do it if there is no candy. What they will end up with is a smaller group of people who consider the playing their candy and that will be their motivation. That is all fine and dandy if that candy is indeed satisfying. The developers need to be careful to make the game FUN if they are not making the game, gain-based, and if they can pull it off, they may be able to salvage more of what would otherwise be a lost demographic. The proof is in the pudding. WoW has LOTS of shiny, tasty candies and it kept my hunger satiated for 2 years. If the end game stuff wasn't so utterly impossible to get for the common player I would have stayed. Working a second shift EST job left me at a less than favorable time slot to play in, that a majority of players did not share so I could not raid and get my candy. Game got boring, I got less candy, so I left. WoW has TONS of players because it caters to the playing style of the larger group. There has to be a compromise in between there. I could care less how many people play the game in other countries because I live in the US, I have an American mentality so I want a game that caters to me. I am by no means a poor player, but my motivations are markedly different and as long as the game can give me my candy consistently without too much struggle, i will enjoy it. Lets face it, MMORPGS aren't MM if they don't appeal to the masses. I am hoping this game can either give me the candy I want, show me a tastier candy, or change my taste of candy by showing me that there is another way of motivating me to play. "GIMME SOME CANDY!" -Adam Sandler
Thats why theres trophies implemented in WAR along with other stuff like Orcs getting bigger in size and greener dwarfs have their beards grow longer etc... Candy doesn't always have to mean "armor" and if you keep putting it like what you just said why do you think there are so many dungeons in WoW? Because people kept getting bored with their armor they just got. If adding trophies or seeing your character scale as you level isn't enough to satisfy your sweet tooth then look somewhere else.

Medieval Total War. A RTS game. I hate RTS game. However, I play Medieval Total War a LOT and I loooove the game.
It is not the amount of content they put into what I love that matter, it is HOW it is an how it interact with the remaining of the game. In Medieval Total War, I don't RTS. I never did, never will. I have no idea how the RTS is in Medieval Total War...yet I looooove the game. I play on the strategic GBT maps, with all it limitations and everything, yet it is FUN. I miss nothing there by not playing 80% of the game. I just do what I enjoy, fully, to it conclusion.
Will someone who play the RTS games be better then me in Medieval Total War? No.
And that "golden no" does matter a LOT. Of course, if I play the RTS aspect of the game, he will totally owns me. But on the Strategic Map, I miss nothing, in fact, I complete 3 games while he completes 1.
At any rate, with no change about the "endgame" and how it interact (Raiding(PvE or PvP) makes them better then me in PvE-grouping), I won't play WAR and they will lose a player which could have been enjoying 20% of their game full time. And who know, maybe they could have convert me to PvP, no matter how unlikely this is, it would have been possible if I play the game.

You expect them to already add things to endgame as soon as you get to it? It's called patience which you probably have little of. And if you're only going to play 20% of an entire game you're going to be worse than a player who plays 100% of the entire game. You might know one part of that game incredibly well and think you can outmatch him, but the other player has a wider range of ideas or tactics in his arsenal then just your 20%. (I hope you know you contradict yourself when your bragging about your RTS escapade. You say that no one can beat you in Medieval Total War yet you go on to say that someone will own you in the RTS aspect of the game, which is pretty much the ENTIRE game. ). And who says they won't change the end game? They might not change the aspect of it, but they'll certainly add more content to make some players who are happy. And if you won't play the game fine. I don't think the WAR devs would care about a person who would only play 20% of their game and is too stubborn to try the rest of the 80%.
I would honestly, as a longtime player of tabletop Warhammer fantasy, be utterly ashamed of this game if it were any more PvE than it already is. This is WARhammer, pitting the games races against each other in battle that never ends (which of course, is the premise of Warhammer, endless wars, especially in 40k) is what this game does. I hardly believe that the OP's comment that "most fans of the Warhammer franchise are in favor of PvE" could be true. As mentioned, Warhammer is entirely too cenetered on racial conflict among its core races than a worldwide epidemic of monsters and such. I mean hell, the only "villainous" force in Warhammer that could even come close to filling the gap is Chaos, and the Hordes are a playable race, so I don't see that happening.
As a huge fan of pre-honor "points" WoW PvP and a former Grand Marshal, as well as a longtime player of Guild Wars, I am immensely intrigued by the PvP centric gameplay of WAR. Earning your "tiered" armor and such all via PvP is awesome, and actually being able to sack a capital city and such, will be breathtaking I think, no game except for Shadowbane and Lineage 2 has really offered a similar experience.
Perhaps Mythic will slightly flesh out PvE content for higher rank players after PvP is firmly established and the bugs are thoroughly ironed out.
At any rate, if you really are a longtime fan of Warhammer, I would say give the game a shot anyway, you may find that even if you never were a huge fan of PvP, being a huge fan of Warhammer will help you learn to enjoy it.
IMO from what I have read so far and the experience from playing DAOC for many years, is that the best part of what WAR is going to bring to a mmorpg that is fast paced RvR/PvP with alot of lore that is not 100% gear dependant.
It seems also the Devs have taken into account RvR/PvP corpse camping and alot of other issues that we have seen in other mmorpgs.
Lets hope Mytrhic succeeds here where DAOC fell short and they release a fun game that gives the thrill we all felt when we first RvRed in the BGs and gear had little to do with the outcome of when you met the enemy head on 1 on 1.
The real issues is you don't need the uber eleet weapons because i don't think they exists, other than toa with daoc they didn't .
I feel equipment will make your character strong but not like WoW where it >> skill .. so i don't think it will really be an issue.
As for will there be a lot of pve ... i 'd say for lvl most likely but end game id wonder about it.

i heard WAR is 80% PvP and 20% PvE. If this is the case, i have one thing to say...HELL YEAH!!!!!!
Gonna pop that bubble right now...it's closer to 60%40%...the podcast they did recently left the impression there should be enough PvE questing all the way though the game..no way in hell would Mythic take a major IP and turn it into a niche game that won't attract a diversity of subscribers. And for the record, I PvP when/where it actually makes sense to, but most games don't provide that so I'm very accepting of PvE content. Call me a Bi-Polar Cearbear
Oh well 60% 40% is good too. As long as PvP dominates I'm happy. I dont much care for PvE raiding so as long as i can burn cities and kill humans and dwarves i'm pumped!

it's not going to be raiding, or at least not much..the PvE quests can have some impact on the overall war in the zone your in, if memory serves (I couldn't ind the post I remember reading the PvP/PvE info on).
And for other people worried about high-level gankers and such, check the WAR webpage and go to the FAQ page...in the Grab Bag Q&A's they discuss quite clearly that a high-level in a low-level area will NOT be able to attack a low-level player, EVER. Now, the low-level player is dumb enough to go to a higher level area that's his problem.

The WAR is coming, not the GRIND, I just can't decide what's more boring, constant fighting or constant grinding, well, looks like I'll have to wait to try it out and then decide.

Watch the podcasts and then you'll know cause it's basically in your face to the point that WAR is about PvP. Yes, there are 4 tiers of growth for each race, tier 1 being more PvE centric, but it slowly turns the other way once you reach tier 4, where PvP is by far the main focus, up to and including the sieges against capital cities.
WAR is about war and war isn't about PvE, it's about PvP. They even state that while people will want to PvE, never fear, as your PvE efforts are counted towards your races WAR efforts. No, you don't ever have to PvP to reach tier 4 and no, you dont have to ever PvE to reach tier 4. However, the end game experience as the OP was curious about, is PvP centric. This isn't a game about raiding a dragon nest, rinsing your hands, returning a week later to reraid the same dragon nest. DAoC as the OP stated was a failure according to her in terms of PvE endgame. Well, DAoC, like WAR was never about PvE but amazing enough, PvE existed in DAoC and what did exist was still as exciting as PvE in any other grindfest PvE centric MMO's, like EQ, EQ2 and WoW.
PvE can only generate so much entertainment before it becomes redundant and boring. PvP is always different, never the same kind of gaming that actually requires something besides logical neurons to complete. Sorry if I find strategic war more appealing then calculated raids, it's in my blood.
I have been watching the podcasts, and nowhere in those podcasts do they say that Warhammer Online is ALL about PVP only! IF the devs wanted to produce a pvp only game then they would have just made an FPS, however the Genre of this game is RPG. Yes, there will be PVP and yes there will be PVE, so deal with the fact that WAR is in not written just for PVP. If you don't like that fact then you need to find another game and not even bother with this one.
It is 20% of the high level content that is PvE-centric.
Can raiding be avoided or the devs are making it in a poor-Gaheris way?
Is this 20% enought to acquire everything? Or it has access only to 20% of the reward? Or is it 20% of the paths that have access to all the rewards which impact PvE combats? I don't mind if I have a longsword + 20, while a PvPer has a longsword +20 of cutting edge, as long as cutting edge is only affecting PvP. But if the PvPers has a longsword +21, then I won't waste time in such a game...I mean, on the PvE combats, can PvP be avoided to acquire everything which make you the best at PvE combat? Can raiding be avoided as well?
PS: PvE players are attracted by the Warhammer franchise...a LOT. The RPG experience, was a PvE experience...not to mention that most PvP experiences with Warhammer doesn't depend on fast reflexes...This is a good thing. Just wondering if WAR will capitalize on this...or just waste this opportunity likes DAoC?
I would have thought that someone following WAR would have realized that it was a PvP-centric game? In any case, I think that the PvE offered by the game will be more of an aside rather than an area of focus. I am sure there will be raids/dungeons at max level, but it will be something to do to take a break from PvP'ing basically...atleast I hope it is

I have no problems with WAR been PvP-centric, that 99% of the game would resolve around PvP would still be fine with me. However, the PvE must be totally and completely independant from the PvP, if they plan on attracting me. If I find this 1% or 20% or whatever % enought or not to keep playing, that will be something I would have to judge later on, but to even judge that and pay monthly fee or just quit after the month, I must first want to buy the game and play it...and for that...I need to know that PvE, is totally, and completely, and unquestionnably, independant from PvP...which means that the best care bears, have to be care bears themselves. Not peoples coming from PvP with loot acquires there...nor from raiding PvE content, since these are sick and unworthy of my time, as was Gaheris discarded with a back hand of utter disgust.
Don't mis-understand me. I would PvP before I raid (I actually want to try and love PvP, but after I experience PvP games such as DAoC, I want my PvE safeguard...as well as my anti-raiding safeguard). But I want to know, that I am totally free from both if I only care about my sandpark and not the whole world; be it 1%, 5% or 20%...as long as it applie to all PvE grouping content. I just want to know, for sure, that I would love that tiny % of the game that is PvE, before I buy it. But yes, I would try the PvP...yet I don't want to feel I have to PvP except for PvP reasons alone, not for any PvE reasons...and if PvP has better rewards for PvE combats, then I don't think I will even try this game.
Also...there could be different servers, with different rules...as long as 1 server is done as I say I need it (PvE grouping safeguards to make sure it is free from having to PvP or raid), I wouldn't care if there are 4574304384 other servers that are built differently.

Did I miss an interview, or a forum post?
Last I heard, player housing was a "want to do it, might not be in the release."
Kraiden,
Do you have a link or anything? I have been looking for a definative answer on housing in WAR and haven't been able to find it.
I don't think your going to see alot of kiddies corpse camping like you mentioned in swg.

I feel equipment will make your character strong but not like WoW where it >> skill .. so i don't think it will really be an issue.
As for will there be a lot of pve ... i 'd say for lvl most likely but end game id wonder about it.

And for other people worried about high-level gankers and such, check the WAR webpage and go to the FAQ page...in the Grab Bag Q&A's they discuss quite clearly that a high-level in a low-level area will NOT be able to attack a low-level player, EVER. Now, the low-level player is dumb enough to go to a higher level area that's his problem.
whatever lets just leave it at Warhammer will be a great game for a long time...nuff said
Second maxstone's post .
higher level are more pvp lower are more pve still there some of both in all levels (and what they are talking about ais quests and land)

Anofayle, are you for real?!? You are talking about your "The best at A should be A-ers" for what now, forewer, and your comprehension level is high enough to recodnise that WAR ain't it. What I don't get is when were you hit by the emo train saying that you won't be playing if your expectations aren't met. I mean, DUH!!
One day there will be a game that will be so big that it will have a way for every type of person to have fun in his own way. And what's all this talk about how it's impossible?! Yeah right, are you all sedated, wth?
If you don't like that fact then you need to find another game and not even bother with this one.I have no problems with WAR been PvP-centric, that 99% of the game would resolve around PvP would still be fine with me.

And I will talk about that as long as it is needed for devs to understand it.
This request is simple, it is logical, and it is fair. If devs keep ignoring this, I will keep repeating it, until it is understood. It is that important.
