lol i hope i have detered people from buying this game and wasting their hard earned money. This game is a sorry excuse for LOTR. Tolkien would be appalled, they should have had Peter Jackson create the MMO lol. Bottom line is that LOTR is a very boring game, very linear, very grind oriented, and has a sorry ass pvp system that was rushed in at the end and is still broken after 9+ months. Only things they have added recently are FLUFF items, music system, housing and more fluff bullshit that doesn't make the gameplay more enjoyable or fix the major problems. I am just coming back here to post, i didn't read all the other posts because i could care less, if you want to throw away your money, go do so, your problem, don't come crying to me when you wasted your money and now can't buy a better game. The trial should show you how shitty it is, the beginning was even more boring to me when i played in beta and after beta. Even WoW is better and more worthwhile then this game, because it does everything much better because of it being out for almost 3 years now. I am not supporting WoW but stating an obvious fact. Even though i hate wow, im not playing wow ever again, it still is better then this game, which makes this game worse then wow, and that is pretty low. Why do you think they are offering a holiday price, because they are failing. They can't get new players. For anyone that thinks PvP has no place in LOTR you're a f'n moron. LOTR is one of those most hostile and dangerous fantasy worlds out there, incredibly viscious and pvp HAS a place, for it not to be there is a catastrophe. Catastrophes are not a surprise considering Turbines Record. Asherons Call 2, Dungeons and Dragons Online anyone?
If you are as narrow minded as this you might just stop playing mmo's all together. It uses targeted, turn-based combat with an auto-attack. And is structured around quests and killing mobs. This does not prevent it from being a really good game, though. First, the world is stunningly beautiful. It's definitely stylized, with bright colors and romanticized cities or landscapes. Much of what you see looks like a post card. But what lover of Tolkien's works would honestly want Bree to be gritty or the Shire to be dull? The look of the game overall is much like the blockbuster movies. The game also performs extremely well for the level of graphical detail present. Quests as a rule are very well written and all fit the lore of the game. LotRO uses instances very effectively, as well. They let you experience key elements of the storyline in a way that's not possible in the public world. And the storyline is very interesting. It casts you as a character who's actions help protect the world from the Witch King and Saruman to give the Fellowship of the Ring a chance at success. The Fellowship may be the ones who ultimately save the world, but it's your job to protect what they're away saving. And sometimes your actions even make theirs possible. There are also far more quests than any character can experience in a single play-through........... Finally, we have content. LotRO has gotten a new free update every two months since launch. Every update has introduced new zones and brought hundreds of new quests. This has fleshed out the end game considerably, but has also improved earlier levels. In fact, the most recent update has added player housing to the game (which was originally planned for a paid expansion). It's a bit rough around the edges, but the devs have made it clear that what we have now is a foundation for much more. They've also stated that they will continue to bring free content at the same rate as we've seen so far, and stated that the first paid expansion (whenever it comes) will have to be absolutely amazing in order to surpass the high bar of the updates and be worth paying for........... Perhaps the hardest thing for hardcore mmo vets is to get used to with LotRO is the basic philosophy of the game. LotRO is meant to be savored every step of the way. It's NOT a race to the finish line so that you can grind away at rep, PvP or dungeons until you scream from boredom or the next expansion gets released, In LotRO, it's the journey that is important! Anyone who comes into the game with the intention of just plain enjoying the experience of being in Middle Earth is likely to find this game more satisfying. The ones who will be most disappointed are the ganksters and uber-elite gearaholics. Not only is that kind of behavior impossible in LotRO, it'll get you lynched by a player base that largely prides itself on its friendliness, this game realy deserved to become Pc game of the year!
First off Graphics mean absolutely NOTHING when compared to gameplay, lets straighten that out.
Quests well written? Go kill those wolves for me, and by the way i forgot.....kill the 10 goblins near the river, and oh also....wait wait....theres a nasty rock that i don't like, can you pick it up and toss it in the trashcan? OH OH, and please deliver my letter to Bounder Boffin, and WAIT A MINUTE, why don't you just be my slave, since im too goddamn lazy to do anything myself. LOL
Update every two months, every 60 days huh, when the content only takes 1 week to play through, yay now we get to wait 53 days for the next update, go check the forums, you'll see them crying for book 12.
Housing is fluff, nothing but fluff, and more fluff and more useless fluff, you get maybe a 12 slot box for items, wow.....thats amazing.
No what you don't understand is that everyone has a different work ethic, if i goto my job i put forth my best effort and get things done quickly, efficiently and so on. If i'm playing a game i don't sit there and progress at a snails pace just to enjoy the game, some people enjoy it at different paces. You assume that those who quickly progress are racing, maybe some are, but some are just more intelligent then you are and can multitask to get stuff done.
PC game of the year? ROFL, get out of your cave and get some sense. PC JOYSTICK or any of the other sites that promoted the game mean nothing, thats someone whos getting paid to give a good review. A tactic of a shitty company named Turbine because they are pathetic and have to steep to low tactics. Most of you rock heads just have low standards and don't see anything beyond that could be anything better, so you think this is the best of the best, game of the year, give me a break.
Openedge... , Graphics realy do mean something , thay help you get imersed intro the world of tolkien if it would have pac-man graphics it would not be nearly as intresting, whit the implention of DX10 it is the most amazing graphics i have seen in any mmo so far.
If you run trough the content in 1 week well , then maby you sould condider this isnt the game your looking for this isnt a game were you rush trough all the content , this is for people who actuly have a social life as well, and the people acording to you who have a difrent work "ethic" sould try a difrent game if thay dont like this one theres a 7 day trail out there wich is free to try for everyone, so everybody can see if this game suits them or not, some people like appels and other like oranges.
Yes it did won Pc game of the year, becouse the people voted for it not becose some reviewer desided that its the people who said Lotro was the best game of 2007 and thats also why its rated 8.2 on this site, not by reviewers but by actul people who played the game and come to this website, and thats the reason why its the best mmo of 2007 just becouse its a good game, maby its not your typ of game but a whole lot of other people do find this a realy great game, so just let them enjoy it and find yourself a game that does suit your style.
Playing:World of Warcraft. Played:Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies. Tried:Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.
Hmmm, i dont think lotro is a bad game, it has the dynamics of your basic mmo skelatin, with its own little unique things thrown in the mix, when it boils down to it ever since eq, earth aand beyond, and uo, every mmo since has had the same structure, As the Op's complaints for this game can go to ANY mmo on the market now, and could apply to all MMO's in general, it covers the complaint of EVERY thing in mmo's that people complain about, so therefore the overall vagueness of the OP's complaint does lead me to think he has some type of grudge because they mustve got caught doing something they shouldnt have, ...the complaints this person made would equate to this person not enjoying any MMO.

Wrong, sir, Wrong. I quit LOTRO because it sucked. Lets get that cleared up.
No this MMO is just a poorly designed one, MMO's are all different but yes lately they have been following a trend, and thats because they are more concerned with profit then fun for the playerbase.
Warhammer Online has made 2 pushbacks, why? Polish and because they want their game to last and be enjoyable. Does it follow the same mold, no, not entirely. It may have auto-target and quests and dice rolled combat but from what i've seen so far it does it better then any other MMO right now except maybe Darkfall since im more biased towards the sandbox MMO. It has a crapload of classes and loads of replayability, PvP, RvR and good PvE, crafting (maybe).
Darkfall Online is taking its time to become a great sandbox game of loads of features from RTS to 1st person shooter and all kinds of other stuff into a fun fantasy MMO. Where you can actually make your own decisions rather then the game make them for you, you can decide what stats, skills or w/e you want to have, to be obtained for your character, growth is limitless.
LOTR is just pathetic, and you're only promoting companies to keep making these by staying sub'd.
Maybe darkfall and warhammer will be great, but i never say so until they come out, but im almost sure you will be pushing little squares in to do attacks in warhammer and doing quests to lvl as well in warhammer, And in darkfall i am thinking that that the fighting described will be like the new swg and you will have to choose yer attack by pushing a little square icon somewhere and setting that to yer auto and doing quests to lvl up, It is still the same skeleton with a different skin laid over them with there own little tweeks and a different story line, thats how mmos been since i been playing, which is longer than WOW, as wow is a skeleton of other mmo's i have played back in the day as well.
