Would be nice if SOE owned some rights to every MMO

SariahSariah Member Posts: 161

Would be nice if SOE owned some rights to every MMO on the market kind of like Wal-Mart owns basically every cities discount everything section. OMG NO WAY!! why would I say that?

1.) SOE is a established professional company who helps even games that are undeveloped [Vangard:SOH] build itself a tid bit.

2.) SOE's customer service is good, Other than one occurance they have never knocked me around and the one occurance recently where I was charged I spoke to someone this morning and was refunded. Thats one serious issue since 1999.

3.) People who hate SOE and like to spam forums about how bad SOE is will not participate in MMO's making the communities less childish.

4.) Every game that comes out will have a huge financial backing there fore cannot flop like Vangard did. (SOE did not develop VG nor are the PoTBS)

5.) Every MMO ever created would be on the access account

6.) When SOE buys a dying MMO like Matrix Online it re-establish's it with it's developers, advertisement, and Sony Access. Anyone who might never play matrix online if they have a access acount and are bored of EQ2 all they have to do is log in and play MxO. MxO would not be here right now if it wasn't for SOE. Crazy ?

7.) Last but not least... There would only be like 10 MMO's not 150 140 which are just garbage .....

Games Enjoyed: UO,EQ,AC,EQ2,COX,LOTRO
Games Played(-Above):WoW,MXO,GW(beta),RFO,ArchLord,V:SOH,Rappelz,Ryzom,DDO
Games I felt were a rip-off: DDO,ArchLord,V:SOH - all newer how ironic

i agree SOE havent thrown me about... but to say they should own every mmo, and the way you wrote this thread just comes of as if you work for the SOE PR...

I agree, Sony's work has been quite satisfactory for me

Many are upset with what they did to SWG..they've probably realized this mistake now and maybe they'll start a new project for a good sandbox mmo to make up for it.

Point is, Sony has made their mistakes, they're only human, but overall they've done a great job making mmo's and i belive they will continue this trend.

finally, someone understands...and all of those points are valid...and another point is, VG doesn't suck because of bugs...SOE's busy at work fixing them and working to better the game...(they can't have bought it too long ago, seeing as VG hasn't been out that long)

Work for them No I work for CGI a International IT company I made this thread because I like and respect SOE and all I ever see is SOE bought rights to NOOOO!!!!! PotBS will suck now!!!!! I hate SOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOE WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it gets old ... kind of like sticking up for someone at school who gets bullied alot because eventually it just gets sad and you are tired of seeing it. If SOE graces any game by merging with them or assisting them to some degree the game will be stable and have a strong backing. SOE just teamed with Vangard a little to late....

All fairly valid except the vanguard one, that didn't flop because of lack of funding, it flopped due to poor management and complete waste of funding by all accounts .  Though one would expect SOE to look more closely at what they are funding in the future now, PotBS looks to be a good aquisition for them.

VG's still got a chance but honestly, i think the way to lift VG up a bit is if SOny shuts it down for a few months and re-opens it when it's a little more stable...or maybe i'm just crazy

While usually lumped together on this forum, the fact is that different people dislike sony for different reasons - many of which are valid reasons to not do business with them that does not necessarily reflect childism on their part.

And, I disagree about the customer service. I dont doubt your experiences have been overall positive, but for many they have not - its one of the major complaints about the company. My own experiences have been horrendous. Even so, I dont equate my own personal experience with everyones - a major assumption and mistake, in my opinion.

well, i've never had problems with them so...customer service hasn't been a problem

When it comes to customer service from them there are also a million factors that go into play. Did the person have a problem in game that made the game IMPOSSIBLE to continue playing? Did the player give SOE a chance before he bailed on the game to never play again. How many SOE haters are just mad because they ran around cursing, insulting and acting against SOE's stated Code of Conduct so they got banned or suspended and this didn't set well with them so they instantly "hate" SOE. I have a friend who hates plasma TV's ... I said why he said because if the bulb breaks it cost 250.00 to fix.... I was like well then I hate cars... if the engine breaks it costs as much as a Plasma TV... Point being theres not always a valid reason for hating something.  i'm sure some people have had issues with SOE which may even date many years back but if you have played their current titles there would be no room for complaints.

Now if it took them maybe a week to resolve your in-game issue for EQ or EQ II ... guess what theres 300,000 other people playing which leaves the possibility of 300,000 tickets per game.

I like the idea, but not SOE. If I had to pick a company, it would be NCsoft. SOE is not a bad company, but the SOE brand simply doesn't stand for quality. If I see a game that is published by NCsoft that has a monthly fee (its free games aren't as good), then I know I get a high quality online game. Lineage, Lineage 2, City of Heroes, Guild Wars. With SOE, i don't get that same feeling, Its either a good game (Everquest 2) or a bad game (Current state SWG).

that would be called a Monopoly which is illegal. plus ncsoft is better at least they have GOOD mmo's.

  • AvraAvra Member UncommonPosts: 100

A week? try almost 6 and a half months. And it was a current title - it was EQ 2. The wait wasnt the biggest issue however, it was how I was treated. I have done over 15 years of customer service work and so I think I have a pretty good handle on how both parties ought to behave.

Which is a complete biased opinions. Good MMO's to you I for one have dedicated more time and money into SOE and the only game they have I really like is CoX.

oh contrare, NCSoft makes extremely grindy games (Lineage, Lineage 2, Guild Wars...CoX doesn't even have PvP...) whereas SOE has games that actually have content (EQ1 has 14 expansions, beat that) and don't revolve around how many monsters you kill...so, overall, SOE has better games by what consumers want but...people hate SOE directly because of SWG...which they should just get over and move on...

I like better actual situation where $OE is buying all the mediocre games for their Station pass, so you know if $OE is involved it's not going to be too good.

so...EQ and EQ2 are mediocre? Planetside is mediocre? Bah! Humbug!

Well thats your opinion and your entitled to it, but I think the games SOE publishes are at least as grindy. Ultimatly, in games like Everquest and Everquest 2, it does matter how many monsters you kill.It doesn't matter if you can pick wherever you want to grind (such as in Lineage or Lineage 2) or you get an NPC to tell you what to kill in the form of a quest.

Sure you can argue that it takes longer to level up and reach the cap in the Lineage series, but really, so what? So your at the cap in EQ/EQ2, then what? Go raid, create a new char, or quit. I'd take grinding over that any day of the week.

And CoX does have PVP, in the form of an arena, FFA and Faction vs Faction

Content? I think NCsoft wins there hands down. Lineage, Lineage 2 and City of heroes/Villains have all received a bunch of updates and expansions, and what sets them ahead of SOE is the fact that EVERY content update for those 3 games have been completely free of charge, where SOE charges for a new expansion pack every couple of months. Do they still charge for those adventure packs?. I say, try and beat that.

SOE has better games by what the consumers want? I'm going to have to disagree with you, considering that all of SOE's game combined don''t even have as many subscribers as Lineage 1 (or Lineage 2), and thats just one game of NCsoft. I'd say that NCsoft is doing a lot better then SOE.

Is SOE the biggest publisher in the industry?

Who else rivals them except possibly NCsoft?

Maybe now that Mythic is EA/Mythic they will churn out more MMOs.

No, there are more publishers that are as big as SOE, if not bigger. Hanbitsoft, Webzen, The9, to name a few.

Great idea! Finally somebody who comes up with this, man why didnt anyone else think of this?

    /sarcasm off

well, not a good idea, why? Having a monopoly is not good

i could come up with something else... but thats wellknown by many already and of course, the OP is joking

    EDIT: for spelling

While I have no dislike for sony i dont think any one company should have the strangle hold on the MMO market.  If SOE owned them all there'd be severe limitation on what new comes out...it'd be like EA but on an MMO scale.    IT'd be like Microsoft's attempted strangle hold at the pc gaming market now with vista.  It just isn't right and thats why we have laws (atleast in the us) on that sort of corporate behavior.

I also don't want to pay a ton of money for an access pass when i might play two games out of say 20 games.

SOE never did anything with MxO its still a shitty game its servers are alive and thats it.

I'd rather have a 150 garbage ones to choose from then 10 that are good but don't innovate.  Sometimes the garbage ones come up with ideas that are really great and other games use them later on to make their game one of the 'top ten'.

BTW finacial backing was not the reason Vanguard flopped.  If you read any of the articles with devs that came off that project from Sigil the problem layed with management within Sigil itself.  They just didnt know what they were doing, they were all vision and little sense on making final decisions.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Wow, I thought this was a joke thread. Like a hahaha got you guys, who would be stupid enough to give SOE the rights to their game unless it was already a failure?

I can't believe this is a serious statement. All SOE has ever done was take MMOs that were failures or generally not doing well and turned  a small profit. Have they made another popular MMO aside from Everquest? Even EQ2,  though it's much better, is so old at this point that there's little motivation for people to join with some of the newer MMOs on the horizon like WAR and AoC.

Fortunately, the OP's wishes would never come to pass.

Anyone who wants to convince me of a point ought not to use Wal-Mart as an example.
