Patrikd23, you are free to think whatever you want, but isnt normal if someone enjoy and play a game to express your point of view in a forum especialized on this game?
Somepeople always enjoyed the concept of Vanguard but some of this people were disapointed on release, but the game improved, so, isnt normal the same people express that now, finally are having a good time ingame?
Do you prefer to play silly and belive everyone that say anything good about Vanguard is hired by SOE?
thanks Dwarf for a min there I was almost suckered into thinking throwing the box into the trash was a mistake RIP: Vanguard a moment of silence please
Vanguard has improved 300% in last 2months and any1 that is playing the game atm can confirm this....in few more months this game will be one of the best out there....
Boy, if Vanguard really improved the 50-500% some enthusiasts claim it does every single patch, I should go in expecting 200 FPS with instant chunking and hitching non-existent. But because I've heard that a few times before, and re-subscribed due to being misled a few times before, I believe I'll be a bit skeptical.
'specially with the inclusion of a "few more months". All Vanguard has ever needed was a "few more months". You sure it'll be after these "few more months"? Promise?
Unfortunately you have threads like these that detract from any legitimate improvements SOE makes to the game, in attempts to lure resubscribers back with too large of expections. It's detrimental to the game and has wasted a lot of resubscribers second, third, fourth, fifth impressions.
SOE themselves are holding back on a free trial and promotional campaign for a reason, they know Vanguard isn't in any shape to "Win Back" resubscribers yet, because the issues they quit over haven't been fully rectified. Sadly SOE has to deal with folk who build false momentum that naturally crashes upon itself.
But sure. Yes, Vanguard is fixed now. Since Vanguard being fixed means its the greatest MMO ever by default; lets bring those other nine or so servers back up, then triple that server total to accomodate the million or so players that'll now come!
Or! Let's hold off on a pitch like that until there's at least a chance of tricking more than a handful of resubscribers who're already skeptical of when to experience their sixth impression of Vanguard. Try it again when free trials are released, truth.
The game runs VERY well...and I don't have a top end rig...and i run it on almost max settings. Some quests are still bugged but i think that will be fixed.Soooo if running the game was your reason for stopping...you may want to resub for a month and check it out.
If you haven't played the latest game update (or even one in the last month) you can't really comment on the state of the game, without you sounding like a troll who has nothing better to do than diss games he doesn't play (and may never have).
Bugs, yes VG has bugs but name one game that doesn't, they are very rare and extremely rare in MMORPGs. I can't think of one game I have played that didnt have bugs, including games like Eve, WoW, EQ1, EQ2 etc Not one of these games was anywhere near pristine.
Performance has increased this patch a little, game update 3.1 was the major performance fix (a month ago) and things are running pretty well. Again if you want an amazing looking game, buy an amazing rig, don't expect your 4 year old machine to look brilliant, it wont happen.
Whilst I dont like the title of this forum, to me Vanguard was never broken, just not complete. I am sure many people will say idiotic things like "your playing a beta" because the game gets regularly updated and fixed, da...
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Well, some other practical issues are:
Although I haven't played since one month past the launch, I can comment on the state of the game. I can read, and from what I'm seeing, is that there really isn't a single VG player who can't name off 3 or 4 bugs they've experienced recently. Might be in the quests, or the pathing, or the crafting, or still getting BSOD's, but never the less, there are still bugs.
But besides all that, I can appreciate the great changes they've made, but the game is still broken from my perspective. I enjoy the PVP side of games, and from what I can tell little improvement has been made with regards to that style of gameplay. In fact, the very server type that I started on, faction vs faction, no longer exists and my character has been transferred to a FFA server that suffers from extraordinary amounts of hacking and some very strange rule sets.
Also, the end game hasn't changed, and never will. VG is designed like WOW, LotRO and EQ; the end game consists of PVE raiding and probably level increases (should it last that long), and that style of game does not appeal to me. So VG will never be my type of game.
The OP's original title and thread were way over the top, it came across as viral marketing and of course, will draw trolls like moths to a flame.

What does the game have now, four servers? And Warhammer, Conan, the WOW expansion, and a few other games are coming out next year?
Unless this game is as smooth as lotion, I don't see how it's going to compete in 2008, but I could be wrong.
While I would like to give Vanguard another try, I'm more picky these days about which games I subscribe to. I want to play a game that is expected to last for a long time, and not risk levelling a character only to see the plug pulled at some point.
And where's McQuaid? Without McQuaid's oversight and stamp of approval, just who is working on this game? Sony staff?

Dude you dont have a perspective you have second hand information!
Man where do you get off! Well i guess it takes all sorts of people to make up the world!
If this style of gaming doesn't appeal to you what in Gods name are you doing looking at the VG forums?
I don't beleive in Trolls other wise you may be consider one yourself, do you have a job? Cause it seems that you have nothing better to do than to read about things that don't interest you!

With all that has happened over the past couple of years it is foolish to count on games that are not on the shelve and currently running, Look what happened to Gods and Heroes and what happen to VG itself.
So counting on AoC and WAR is a fools game. Only definite amongst the games you have quoted is WoW Expansion. And how many quit WoW after the last expansion cos they felt it broke the game for them.
So yeah you dont want to risk playing a game that is out and running but instead you wait for a game that may never be released, keep on waiting dude, i play tonight on VG and will be enjoying myself.
like someone else has posted if indeed"vanguard is fixed"then I will expect to see sony doing a massive re-release and free trials to get the gamers back/new gamers in,Until then i wont be resubbing just because what could be a few fanboi`s that want to fill there servers,To the people who are enjoying it in its current state fair play to you and have fun,Until I hear it from there devs and publisher then it is very much "we are working on it"title.Who knows though by the titme it is infact "fixed"then maybe TCOS or some other of the planned releases will be out and be everything I hoped and wont bother trying VG again,Time will tell.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
To be honest i dont really think the game needs a few months more or a few days more or a year more. Im quite happy with the game as it is. Yes there are a few bugs around but anyone worth thier salt knows that even established games that have been around for years have them too, I layed eq for 7 years and still found bugs and slow down when i finished that 7 years. All that matters is if the game is playable now...which it simply is! so who cares who likes it and doesn't anymore? not me. come join me on Halgar if you do. go elsewhere if you dont and if you do go elsewhere feel free to pop back and tell me about your new game. i would be glad to hear from you.

Well I sure am tempted to re-sub. I just don't want to install, be disappointed, and look like a stupified asshat who is out $15. Been there too many times.
Still, like others have implied, you have to give the game a try to see how it is.
Out of interest what are you playing at the moment?
And i would like to add that the graphic performance of VG is far far better than EQ2.
Anyone who has played EQ2 and VG will know this as a fact, How long has EQ2 been out now?
When i played EQ2 last year the mounts had no jump animation, when you pressed jump when mounted the horse would just go straight up in the air and then land sup with that!
So before peeps come on here and start knocking VG lets us know what you are playing so that we can have an idea of what you are used to.
Otherwise spanners like Kyleran will come on here and start letting their mouth run away with them.

Not sure who you are asking, but if you are asking me, I am playing WOW at the moment. Have always viewed WOW as an "okay" game, but it does not fill the gap of EQ years ago.
Have played EQ2, EQ, Shadowbane, DAOC, LOTRO, Earth and Beyond, AC1, AC2, and a handful of others.
They need to give me a game with WOW-like mechanics, class, spell, and combat systems, EQ depth and world mystery, EQ death penalty, and EQ2 or better graphics. And rate it "M" to fend off most of the kiddies.
Would love to see a Diablo MMORPG, but that is not likely to happen.
Thats fair enough friend but if your worried it may be better to wait untill the new year and check to see if a trial is anywhere close. All i would say is ignore what you heard at release and look at VG as a new game to try! That way you can take it for what it is and not what the so called "vision" was supposed to be. it may be what your looking for or maybe not.
For me its a great game because i dont have hours on end to spend and find myself popping on for 30 mins at a time and soloing through a quest. If im on longer and get in a group then great but the reality is for me most of the time i am soloing due to lack of online time but at least with Vg i can do this and get rewarded for it
As for the game being fixed...No there is still a lot they need to do but for me most of it is adding content and advancement now rather than bugs and performance. I get 14-25 fps on my PC yet the game runs smooth for me solo and in groups, so i dont buy all this "i need 60 fps!" rubbish. that dont seem to make any difference to my pc. Unless maybe i am missing something

"M" rating would actually lure the kiddies.... aggro them, and tank for a very long time.

I was asking you, although my anger is aimed at Kyleran not you.
I only ask what game you came from to guage youer expectations. I too came from WoW, which is polished and well populated. From your game list it looks like you will enjoy VG, but if you are not sure please by all means wait for the trial.
Does Vanguard have "trains" like in EQ? A "train" is when a party of adventurers tackles more or tougher monsters than they can handle, resulting in the heroes running for safety while monsters pursue and sometimes peel off and attacking innocent bystanders.
While I am not condoning intentional trains that cause grief, the accidental trains are quite fun experiences and add to immersion.
Oh god i miss that so much! it made going afk in dangerous places so much more realistic. HaHa remember Karnors castle? that place was heroic for trains
Unfortunately if a mob has travelled away from it's point and it either kills its target or gives up it will out run back to its previous spot. But you can attack it as it runs back which is something

Ya foesure free trial is the way to go forsure i just tryed LoTR after reading the vanguard forums and seeing people compared vanguard scrrens to LoTR screen , my god what a small lifeless little mmo after all i heard about the graphics i was pretty shocked to see trees right out of deer hunter from 6 years ago and god talk about lifeless towns and citys
The prancing pony in bree what a joke 30 npcs in it about 5 moving there hands and a minstrel trainer standing there playing the same 6 notes over and over what a f---ing joke of a game and i play both games every setting maxed at 1920x1200. Vanguard runs just as good as LoTR
you people need to upgrade you honestly think your going to be playing AOC or any of the new games on anything but the lowest setttings

There's a lot of things in life that I don't have direct experience with yet consider myself fairly well informed about. Second hand doesn't necessarily mean incorrect or inaccurate, and I take care to discern as best I can the flaming posts from the factual information provided by many forum posters.
Where do I get off? Hmm, why so much anger? I'm just a random forum poster making a comment in a thread regarding a game that I have played and still follow.
As to the style of gaming, I'm just pointing out why the game hasn't changed for me, (which might be a concern for others) and not being overly critical of VG I don't believe.
As for reading about what interests me, VG and all things gaming interest me and as you can tell from my post count, I comment a lot about various subjects. (I also read most of the active threads in these forums, even when I don't post)
If that makes me a troll, then I guess I welcome the title.
As for the job comment, yes, I spend about 60 hours a week in my office, and these posting diversions help break up the day.

Originally posted by VultureSkull Last night after the patch the performance improved tremendously, and performance goes a long way in improving the overall experience.
I'm going to point something out and hopefully not get called a troll, but it is worth mentioning for a perspectives sake.
It is comments like this that make reviews like those of the original poster hard to believe. Time and again I've read people (not just the OP) talking about how much each patch has drastically improved performance and how smooth the game plays or how it is on equal footing with some of the most polished games on the market right now. That is great news, but if the latest patch improved performance "tremendously" then how were things really since the patch before that which also increased performance to the same degree. I keep seeing these people talk about how flawlessly that game plays, but then a new patch comes out and it has some new dramatic effect that makes the game even more playable. See what I am saying?
Its just hard to take those comments as being objective when they keep getting repeated by people trying to "promote" the game to attract new players. Especially when they look almost like a company press release.
I'm not trying point fingers at you honestly. I've really enjoyed your comments and found them to be balanced, so I apologize ahead of time if it looks like I'm painting you in a bad light.
I spent some time playing VG after the patch and I have played it on the test server.
I say this patch improved a number of things. Occlusion which now has a few options seems to work without older graphic glitchs. Maybe that's my drivers maybe it is better code?
Hitching still happens when I go into an area like tursh, kahl or NT. However it seems like it lasts a shorter time and completely clears up after you have been in the area a few minutes. I ran around in the 3 area's above and found that my framerates consistently stayed above 35, this is with most settings maxed out. This is VERY good and since i'm playing EQ2 now days mostly I'd say the performance in VG is better then in EQ2 with max settings on, and the graphics compared to EQ2 are again MUCH better and the world more immersive. Although EQ2 does have better fantasy environments.
There may still be crash bugs but in the 2-3 hours I ran around I didn't see any crashing or degradation in performance.
I did play with the UI some and it seems like the UI works better and smoother. I remember glitchness with the map and some impact on performance with the UI but that is gone. I never noticed the looking for guild interface so I'm not sure that is new but the overall lfg, lfm, and looking for guild UIs are all very nice now. The raid interface also looks pretty good with good functionality. Things like raid assistance, targeting icon tools, readycheck, raidleader announce features are things many games require addons to implement if they exist at all. I think the UI improvements are one of the things that jumps out most after performance.
The quest log now has diplomacy and crafting quests delineated and I saw diplomacy NPCs with diploy quest icons colored by the level of the quest they had. I thought from the release notes they were adding this and it wasn't in yet but I saw one in tursh so maybe some of the NPCs have these quest headers.
All in all there are a lot of improvements in this game since release.
I don't see people having the crash issues. Chunking is faster and doesn't seem to do bad things. I chunked at least a dozen times and the normal chunk time for me is about 5 seconds.
I'd say that they have made solid improvements in the game since release. Is it enough? I'm certain the game would have done far better if they released it today then the state it was at release. I think soe is planning to do another GU to improve the character models, animation and to add helms :P. They will also implement the dynamic weather and no doubt fix bugs and add more content for the next GU. I'd guess that around that time we will see the trial island and the game get some marketing push. I'm also going to predict that they will start talking about an expansion.
Personally I'm going to stay with EQ2 but dabble in VG until they do the relaunch then I'll try to relaunch myself into VG.

Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
I have played many MMORPGs and would like to try out VG, please send me a rookie recruit trial to my MMORPG.com inbox. Thanks in advance.

I'll think on it some more.
REALITY CHECK

I only ask what game you came from to guage youer expectations. I too came from WoW, which is polished and well populated. From your game list it looks like you will enjoy VG, but if you are not sure please by all means wait for the trial.
Does Vanguard have "trains" like in EQ? A "train" is when a party of adventurers tackles more or tougher monsters than they can handle, resulting in the heroes running for safety while monsters pursue and sometimes peel off and attacking innocent bystanders.
While I am not condoning intentional trains that cause grief, the accidental trains are quite fun experiences and add to immersion.
Hell Yes! I am very happy to hear this, I have been waiting for a reason to come back to this game, glad I can come back now!!!

Played MMO: V:SoH, SWG, WoW, EVE, RFO, FFXI, LOTRO, EQ, AoC, EQII, AA, COH/V, D&D, LII, SL, DAoC, AL, PS, SB, CO, AO, TR.
Oh god i miss that so much! it made going afk in dangerous places so much more realistic. HaHa remember Karnors castle? that place was heroic for trains
Unfortunately if a mob has travelled away from it's point and it either kills its target or gives up it will out run back to its previous spot. But you can attack it as it runs back which is something
so...how will this game run on 2400xp, with 1gb ram and r9800pro after this patch?
hf
