Let's put things into PERSPECTIVE shall we? and dish out a little bit of a REALITY CHECK to delusional who still follow this 7 year old illusion and get excited over players standing on terrain screenshots. Fact, just because you are used to the same Dog and Pony show all the other Developers of MMOs put on years and years in advance does not mean that all games have to follow this direction.

Its ok we wont hold it against you. But please stop stating opinion as fact when its just that... opinion.

On a serious note here, the OP has a couple of valid points but he didn't really present them in the right way. Hostility doesn't get anyone anywhere. It boils down to this; You either believe the devs based on their words and a few screenshots, or you don't. Most of us veteran gamers are inclined to do the latter rather than the former as experience has taught us that devs lie.
But if you want to believe, and hold steadfast to those beliefs more power to you. I hope for your sake that Darkfall releases and is the best game ever. Until that time I'm inclined to believe it's vaporware.
Hello. I will give you a lil hint about the server version, and the stand alone version, what about you can think a lil bit. I very much doubt you know anything more then I already do about what the developers have said about server versions or stand alone versions, so no need for the condescending attitude or assumption that I'm anymore uninformed then you or anyone else concerning Darkfall's actuall state of development.
It was said that they went to E3 2006 and showed different ppl(press, potential publisher, a lot infos at the Darkfall news, if you wish to validate) a stand alone version of darkfall, this may be the same version, which played Asp And there “demonstration” at E3 2006 was the developers giving interviews with a lap top with fraps videos, screenshots and stand alone tech demo (which I agree was probably the same as the one Asp played during his visit). So basically at E3 2006 we got the developers talking about the same things they have been talking about since 2001 and showing the same limited things they been showing since 2001, but still not demonstrating that the major features have been actually implemented successfully into a working beta version of there game.
(read the Asp diary, and the dev writeup about the visit), they hinted, that the server was down at that moment to be updated(true or not true, it can not be proved). They told Asp that the current beta version was not stable enough so he played the one year old tech demo instead but in Dev journal 15 they said the reason was the servers where down for changes and updates but did not mention version stability. Convenient or coincidence?, contradiction or discrepancy?, one can decide for oneself.
But now we have a indication, that all this is really the truth. Please elaborate on what you think “we” have indicated is “really the truth”.
It is the combat vid from last year. Why you ask? Quite simple, because we have seen there multiplayer action, which is not possible in the stand alone version. It may be the beta server, but anyway, to run multiplayer you need some kind of server. Not sure what you are trying to say here but perhaps you should re-read Aps’s description of the tech demo, he clearly mentions other developers playing with him during the demonstration. So you are wrong, it seems that the stand alone tech demo can be played on a network with other players. But if you where right then how did he play with other developers during the visit when apparently according to dev update 15 the servers where down… Possibly because the stand alone tech demo that Asp experienced can be played over a simple network with other users and this is possibly why a tech demo could have been used to produce all the game play videos we have seen released so far.
Therefore is the combat vid up to now the best update we have ever seen, and by the way much better then the last vid or the last screens. We have even a comment from the devs about the vid.. and btw. it is the exact same graphic as now, just with a few less placeholder, and some graphic effects on. (as said by the comment for the combat vid last year) Again I’m not quite sure what you are trying to say, but yes I agree the graphics and superficial effects have improved consistently over the years in the screen shots and videos that have been released. (especially in the most recent examples) But what the basic content of the screens shots and the videos that have been released since 2001 has changed very little and still does not show the majority of any of the major or minor features or game play that one would expect to see from a game that is supposedly starting beta within a few months and releasing within the year according to the developers.
But however, it still remains, that we didnt saw all announced features, but i guess we will not see every feature before release or until we actually play it(beta or release). But from which game in development have we ever seen every feature before release? I think it would be more accurate to say so far we have not seen nearly all of the announced features. Again I think its more accurate to ask what games (past or present) have ever not demonstrated any of there major (or even many minor) features at the stage when they are starting beta “within a few months” and with less then 9 months left to meet there launch "within the year" scheduel.
Dont fall for this, By “don’t fall for this” I presume you mean don’t attempt to engage anyone who does not share you overwhelmingly positive opinion in debate or dialogue. Just ignore there opinions or claims and attempt to arbitrarily dismiss them using the usual attempts at character assassination and wild eyed conspiracy theory’s.
the guy who started this thread is POLORIZATION; he's the guy that starts accounts after different names. Yeah every account that has posted anything critical, negative or skeptical about Darkfall and/or its developers or anything that you disagree with was/is or will be one of my accounts. That’s much more likely then the possibility that more then one person has found reason to be critical, negative or skeptical about Darkfall and its developers since 2001.
Read some of his responses, or better yet look on one of the threads below; Polorization posted the the reply that included the exact same stuff that OP posted in this thread. Fortunately for us who have been here more then 2 seconds figured this out a long freking while ago. Wow what an incredibly brilliant demonstration of inductive reasoning. Because I mentioned in this thread that the OP copy pasted something from one of my previous posts in another thread I of course must be the OP… Because I generally express critical, negative and skeptical opinions about Darkfall and its developers, then everyone else who also expresses the same or similar opinions must be me… But let me guess all the people who make accounts and post positive things about Darkfall and its developers and who say things you agree with a defiantly not multiple accounts… And all the people who copy paste from other people who post positive things about Darkfall and its developers and who say things you agree with are defiantly not multiple accounts… Do you actually have anything to say thats relevant to the threads topic, judging by this post it does not appear so.
I saw one screenshot with the inventory and character sheet... It looked exactly like classic UO. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or really, really sad because that was done.... 10+ years ago?

Yes I mentioned those earlier in this thread, the problems are there’s not many of them, they are quite old some dating back many years, And they look very basic and don’t show a lot of information almost like alpha or place holders.

I must say that as a developer, i really am stunned to see how many threads are created about Darkfall every day. Not to mention that even if they get heated, at least it keeps people talking about it.
I'm wondering if the DF developers are aware of this, and trying to capitalize on it. Because that's some serious free publicity they got going there. If they ever release, i suspect both believers and non-believers would try the game eventually. And if it doesn't... Well, they don't have anything to loose at all since they are not a known company in the industry like Blizzard, Ubisoft or EA. So no name or credibility to jeopardize, since they already have none.
Even if i consider it a lame duck, this game is a phenomenon for keeping the interest of fans and trolls to keep coming back to defend or bash that game. Beside SOE hating, i think it must come second in popularity, even more so then WoW bashing.
Wether it's by accident or planned, that's a marketing feat worth mentioning in my book.

By hype I meant all the features that they claim to be putting into Darkfall. It is a very ambitious project to say the least, but if done right will be a very fun game to play.
Ahh, I misinterpreted your use of that term.
Yes, they do have a very ambitious project. As mostly first time developers, I think it's just taking them a lot longer than they expected. That inexperience combined with a small dev team (much smaller than most MMOs) is causing the process to become longer than most people would like. They seem to be learning from their mistakes though.
I think they will eventually release a game with most of the features they claim it will have. Hopefully they can pull it off by making the implementation of those features fun and effective.

They are well aware of the heated debates. Their means of capitalization will be finally putting out a game.
Aside from people who find out they just hate open/full loot pvp, every bad mouther of this game will at least try it out. Whether or not they continue playing it is another matter, but I think the devs realize that people always talk crap about games they've never played.
Some will support it; some won't. In the end, anyone who cares enough about the whole situation is going to at least try Darfkall when it's released.

I will try it via beta or a free trial account, but after D&L, I will never give my payment information to any no name company again. They will have to prove a lot to me before I consider shelling out a dime for the game, subscription, or item mall... regardless of which direction they go.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
I cant find any screen shots from 2007,2005 or 2004 that show much of the UI.
Except for variations showing a target reticule, mini map top right hand corner a hot bar top left hand corner and a small health/mana/stamina bar window in the bottom right corner.
When comparing the 2003 UI to the 2006 UI they seem quite similar despite the fact that they are seperated by a few years of potential development time.
According to the menu options window we have yet to see amongst others the UI display the skills, journal, clans or status windows.
So I suppose we can assume either the UI is going to be similar to this at launce, or they have changed it since 2006 but not shown us yet, or they are still working on changing it before they show a new or improved UI for launch.
I saw one screenshot with the inventory and character sheet... It looked exactly like classic UO. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or really, really sad because that was done.... 10+ years ago?
Age have nothing to do with this being good or bad. Played UO since beta and i liked the system they used alot.
Yeah see I'm torn on whether I like it or not.
Personally, all I need in my inventory is a list. Just give me a plain text list, maybe color code it based on item type, and make it self-organize (for whatever order top to bottom I want) and I can get the little "backpack graphic" if I mouse over it plus some details.
I don't need 47 bags with little "backpack graphic" representations of the item. It forces you to mouse over stuff to see WTF it is.
Just give me a list.
Healing Potions : x7
Steel Armor (Head) : x1
And then I can mouse over the itmes and get their stats / description and the "backpack graphic."

This whole Darkfall thing would make an interesting anthropological study, I reckon - it really has the features of a cult, both from the detractors and the defenders.
Strikes me that by any real standards this game is a mirage, but hey, who cares. It is intriguing to see people who care so much that they run analysis and comparisons of posts etc...

ha ha, thats the best thing i have ever heard : )
And it would only be something like that that would be missing from all the DF mystery, A secret DF cult. But give it 1000 years and it could grow to a religion. Just as christianity did. And that would lead to DF having 250k+ subscibers : )

This is a QOUTE from a Darkfall moderator that i think fit right in on describing you and your intentions with this thread. Read redlined text.
Firstly, let me tell you that there's nothing wrong about being skeptical about any MMO in development. Recent years have proven that even the most hyped and anticipated games can go vapor, or end up being a terribly poor product.
Now that that's out of the way, rumors of Darkfall being vapor is entirely unfounded. Much of them have been spread by fans of competing games, and sometimes, even their developers. This game poses a threat to the established MMO model, and a lot of people want it to fail for that reason.
Darkfall was initially started by the company Razorwax, but after nearly completing the game, Aventurine took over after being impressed by their product. With the additional resources Aventurine could offer, the decision was made to pretty much reconstruct the game from the ground up.
This means, Darkfall has only really been under development since Aventurine acquired it, which is about the same amount of time as other major MMOs (AoC and WAR). My advice is, show your support for good games, and don't let the politics of the industry scare you.
Game have been in development for 5 years which isnt especially long for a MMORPG. WoW took 6 years to develop.
This game poses a threat to the established MMO model, and a lot of people want it to fail for that reason.
I laughed out loud after reading that. Threat?? How out of touch with reality can these people who follow this get?
Now they're whipping up wild conspiracy theories saying the industry as a whole is against them all?
This game is not a threat to anything. This darkfall game project has not shown ANYTHING in 8 years that would make it a threat to any game out there... let alone the "industry"...
Unless you consider a few outdated looking alpha videos and screenshots to be a threat.
If this guy really believes what he just said it's really sad.
Ok, the game itself is no threath, but the game concept is. I know many gamers that begins to act very weird when you tell them there is a lot more to MMOs then WoW.
They feel that their way of playing MMOs ARE threathen, and i love every minute when i see that in thier eyes.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Apart from this single screen shot from 2006 showing the UI already posted
http://www.darkfallonline.eu/darkfall-bilder/v/2006/javaw_2006_12_15_16_56_03_36.jpg.html
I cant find any screen shots from 2007,2005 or 2004 that show much of the UI.
Except for variations showing a target reticule, mini map top right hand corner a hot bar top left hand corner and a small health/mana/stamina bar window in the bottom right corner.
But from 2003 there are these 4.

http://www.darkfallonline.eu/darkfall-bilder/v/2003/darkfall120104.jpg.html
When comparing the 2003 UI to the 2006 UI they seem quite similar despite the fact that they are seperated by a few years of potential development time.
According to the menu options window we have yet to see amongst others the UI display the skills, journal, clans or status windows.
So I suppose we can assume either the UI is going to be similar to this at launce, or they have changed it since 2006 but not shown us yet, or they are still working on changing it before they show a new or improved UI for launch.

Pretty close id say. Even about the same thread name. First one is
The sad state this game REALLY is in and other one is
The sory state of the officially acknowleged Darkfall community .
And look at the setup from the OP. Pretty close too me.
Ha haha hahahahahahaahaha!
Go back to WoW and waste your life.
An immature post deserves an immature answer.
My tip to you is read about the game before you start with the whining as you were very good at btw.

Ummm, I believe he/she is replying to the OP, not your post...
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Ok, my bad, sorry.
no worries.
This whole Darkfall thing would make an interesting anthropological study, I reckon - it really has the features of a cult, both from the detractors and the defenders.
Strikes me that by any real standards this game is a mirage, but hey, who cares. It is intriguing to see people who care so much that they run analysis and comparisons of posts etc...
dude, idea!
I think they're going to release it as "darkfall2: imagination". No subscription fee, no grind, , you don't even need a PC or a ruleset! Just a little inspiration and your own imagination :P
Release date: 2020 TBD
/rant
ha ha, thats the best thing i have ever heard : )
