This game poses a threat to the established MMO model, and a lot of people want it to fail for that reason.
I laughed out loud after reading that. Threat?? How out of touch with reality can these people who follow this get?
Now they're whipping up wild conspiracy theories saying the industry as a whole is against them all?
This game is not a threat to anything. This darkfall game project has not shown ANYTHING in 8 years that would make it a threat to any game out there... let alone the "industry"...
Unless you consider a few outdated looking alpha videos and screenshots to be a threat.
If this guy really believes what he just said it's really sad.
Darkfall is a big threat to most developers. Since it's really hard to give freedom in a mmo.
And you should read about the game before talking. You don't seem to know much about it. Not even the years of development.
WoW took more than 5 years to develop with a much bigger developteam than Darkfall got.

Its no big secret that Darkfall concept is a huge threat to established MMORPG games. The race for subs is always arround and Darkfall will snatch alot more subs then you seems aware of, if game delivers. Saying as you do that Darkfall isnt a threat to anything just informs me of your total lack of insight in the game Darkfall. If Darkfall delivers youre in for the surprice of your life.
It will not just be just about any PvPer that ever played a MMORPG or intended to play one. Loads of RPG:ers is already set for the game and more will come. Players mainly interested in PvE will choose Darkfall as their next MMORPG game. Any idea how many PvP:ers there is that is completely tired of a game like WoW? Im not sure, but there is alot of them. If AoC dont deliver there will be a huge empty space in the MMORPG world to fill and i think Darkfall will fill it just nicely.
And try get your facts straight before pulling numbers out of the blue. 2003 was the startdate of serious development. Where did you get 8 years from?
Darkfall was initially started by the company Razorwax, but after nearly completing the game, Aventurine took over after being impressed by their product. With the additional resources Aventurine could offer, the decision was made to pretty much reconstruct the game from the ground up.
This means, Darkfall has only really been under development since Aventurine acquired it, which is about the same amount of time as other major MMOs (AoC and WAR).
And you can't discount the time Razorwax invested in the game prior to the takeover, it still counts as development time. Otherwise we could say TR only took 3 years since they decided to rewrite it completely

I don't know where all this "Threat" talk came from. Darkfall will not be a threat to anything. If and When Darkfall comes out -- people will still play other games. It doesn't threaten the balance of the way games will be currently. What it will be is a breath of fresh air that someone is trying something "new". Eventually everyone gets tired of playing the same games over and over again so this will be a nice change of pace.
Will this forever change why WoW became so popular or why so many people copy the model? Noway. It'll just be a fun game ------ or not a fun game, really it's way to early to tell------- but it's "different" to that we should all be able to agree.

Prove it? Why dont you read up on the game abit before making such statements? Cant understand people that have no faith in there fellow man, why should Darkfall developers lie about something like this? And whats your intention by making such a statement? Only reason for it is to downtalk the game Darkfall and its developers. And i wonder why? A quote from the Darkfall Developers concerning the reason they moved to Greece, read and learn - Article is from 26/1 2007 and they been in full production for 3 1/2 years, do the math yourself.

Sure i can discount the time before the companies emerged into Aventurine. Or do you call 4 developers in a basement in Norway with no equipment for a developer team for a game like Darkfall? Just read what Tasos informs us about the game, and personnaly i do believe the Darkfall developers alot more then i believe in a none fanbois like you with a huge lack of information as well.
And to be honest the Darkfall approach on their game is much more promising then most other games with a timelimit to fulfill whether the game is ready for it or not. They can selfpublish and take their sweet time before putting the game on beta and release. No investors is breathing down their necks, thank god.

The developers said in late 2003 that beta would begin in one month. In 2004 , they said beta was about to begin. In 2005 they said beta was about to begin and had signups and everything.
So obviously they didn't start over in 2003.
You believe the devs , who have been lying about beta for 5 years straight. That really makes no sense AT ALL.

Yes it is rare in the business . If fact its unheard of to miss a beta date by 6 years and counting.
And they haven't learned anything. They are still lying. In eary 2007, they said they expected a summer 2007 beta. .
Now they are saying an early 2008 beta, so they can release in late 2008. But the video they just release d shows that they have many more years of developement left.

Hmm, kinda hard to put the game in beta 6 years ago when the development started 4 1/2 years ago?
The beta 2002 was announced by the Razorwax company before they emerged with Aventurine. The ambition level were raised after they emerged and game 2002 have very little to do with the game of today.
2007 beta was never a announced beta date but a internal target date. Nothing promised but if you wanna call that a promise is your choice. http://df.warcry.com/news/view/72342
So of your beta release failures is one left, the 2005 one. What can i say, shit happens!!
Since about early 2005 I remember (my personal recolection, might have gone on longer) they'd release a quick little video with some sort of weird, random, projection for Beta, normally summer.
Summer would come and go, and there'd be no beta or update.
Normally in the fall a rumor spreads around that sounds like they have a "Internal Date" as a goal. Normally the rumor is started in one of the many Darkfall Guilds who claim to have a Developer in the Guild with inside information. This isn't any sort of official announcement, but it's all information that gets around anyways.
Rinse and Repeat.
During those 2 times, there's a generous spike of both Fandom and Hatred for the game. But overall, anybody who's watched it enough over the years has noticed this trend.
Also, anybody who has watched this trend can, historically, can tell you that the Hatred for the game is directly proportional to the hatred of the Fandom. The harder the Fans push, the more aggitated they appear to get, the more trolls they claim... the harder the "Trolls" will bring all this information to light.
It's not that the Dev's are lying so much as they're failing to put the right information out there, and they're failing to update the information they HAVE put out there. It makes it seem as if the man doing the public speaking, and those who are theoretically working on the game, are disconnected and not talking enough, or are not getting permission to update the fans.
Either of which are seriously bad signs for the way a MMO is run.

And for the ........, lost count in the times i tried to enlight people about Darkfalls approach to advertising. Darkfall developers dont prioritate loads of advertisments nor promoting the game. Its easily attainable information but some people seems to choose not seeing it.
Tasos Flambouras: Giant budgets and giant advertising campaigns demand giant paydays. We definitely don't need to be a World of Warcraft killer to be successful, but the same may not be true about some of the other games in development. When faced with the question of budget allocation we decided that it's more important for us to first make as good a game as possible and then to market it on its merit. The opposite doesn't work in the long run, and quality would be compromised by taking some of the development resources and throwing them into marketing so we're betting everything on our strength. We couldn't compete with some of the large titles when it comes to marketing since it all comes down to dollars and cents, but we can still make one hell of a game.
You're denying the game has been in production for 7+ years? Holy shit Batman! Revisionist history at its best.
Shadowbane had just released, and people were leaving as Darkfall was "just about to enter beta" in 2003.
You're tired of people bashing the game, or vapourware, or whatever, but please do not try to warp the truth like that. The truth lives!

Hi. Youre also lacking knowledge about the game, dont ya? Theres alot of those here it seems. Ah well, i try enlight you. Did you know that the original company Razorwax moved from Norway to Greece 2003? And do you still think that the game Razorwax started 2001 in a basement in Norway with 4 developers have any releavance to the game that is under development 2008?
No there is very, very little similarities btw these two years, Darkfall 2001 and Darkfall 2008. The game was more or less remade from scratch after the two companies merged.

The date the developer journal was written was 26th of januari 2007. And Tasos claims they been in full production three and a half year. So id say they had serious developing going on for soon to be 5 years. Information is easy attainable if your interested enough, dont you agree?
Its very easy to grab information out of the blue like you do, isnt it?
Beta 2003 was announced of Razorwax before they emerged with Aventurine. So you see the ambition level of the game raised alot after they moved to Greece. They started more or less from scratch as you can read above. Isnt it nice with some accurate information here on the Darkfall board.
And youre so called truth isnt worth the paper its written on.

In what degree do they lie? 10%, 25% or 50%. You see its no point discuss with people that already choosen not too believe whats put forth to ya. Its meaningless.
And only assumptions i made concerning you was that you as a seemingly EvE fan chooses to downtalk Darkfall for whatever reason? If thats a wrongly made up assumption, i appologize. And spending your time, workload and funds on developing the game instead of making huge promotings with fantasie sums seems to me a good assumption that the game will hit the shelfs in due time and the demand for subs will be lower.
If they totally started the game over in 2003, why did they say at the end of 2003 , that beta was about to start? Why did they say in 2004 that beta was about to start? Why did they say in 2005, that beta was about to start? If they had started over, the game couldn't possibly be ready for beta in 2003, or 2004.
So any way you look at it, they have been lying through their teeth the entire time

Hmm having reading comprehension difficulties have we?
Beta was announced to start last quarter 2002 or early 2003. This was announced by Razorwax, the company in Norway, 4 developers in a basement. That was dropped casue after the move to Greece and the merge with Aventurine the ambition for the game increased alot. Darkfall started a new more ambitious life in Greece and more or less got a rebirth and started all over again from scratch. So the beta announcement late 2002 or early 2003 was for a less ambitious game, a game far from the game that is under development 2008. Why dont you read up on the info i deliver to you in my earlier reply? Its all there.
Show me a quote from a developer that there would be a beta 2004? There was to be one 2005 that were removed. As i said shit happens in the gameworld. And one beta announcement which failed isnt any reason to start a vaporware militia which can be seen all over the gameworld of today. What these characters lack is knowledge in the game and its history. The vaporware militia always looses any discussion when it comes down to facts and accurate information. Some people wanna hurt the game and the company cause they simply fear them. The competition in the MMORPG world is huge and dirty tricks is nothing uncommon. Of that youre a good example.
And youre the one that delivers misleading information, not the Darkfall developers. Is it cause of lack of knowledge or might the reason be something else? Hehe.
Here is your proof that the game wasn't started from scratch in 2003
here is a quote from darkfalls lead designer in Aug 2003
"Darkfall is entering closed beta testing in September this year. The closed beta is fully playable, with most core features implemented. We will be adding features and content during closed beta, while we gear up for the next beta stages"
heres a quote from 9-30-2003
"Overall we're very happy with the progress, we don't have any serious problems, and we believe that we'll be able to deliver an advanced beta build for playtesting before long. "
Heres a quote from 11-27-2003
<Oromea|Gaintlord> Any plans to make E3 this year (2004) tasos?
<Tasos|Dev> We probably will go this year with a finished game.
Heres a quote from 1-26-2004
"The preparations for community playtesting have already started on our end. We'll start a short registration and selection process soon. Findings from our new build will determine when the playtesting will begin. "
Darkfall is currently in the final stages of internal beta testing. This means that the game is being tested in-house in preparation for public playtesting. A beta registration form will become available on this website soon.
July 9th, 2004
We understand that you want to know specifics about the beta testing and the game launch. All we can say responsibly is that we can see light at the end of the tunnel and we'll let you know as soon as we know for sure. The beta forms have been ready for months and our tester evaluation is an ongoing process.
May 4, 2005
We do have an internal milestone for the beta as the fans perceive it, and that's the state where the game can be playtested and fun could be had. We're nearing this stage...
I still don't get it, are some of you guys/gals trying to convice us so we don't want to play this game? If so, you will fail until the devs say themself that they won't release it.
This is not politics or religion it's a game. Don't be so childish and act by your age instead.

If you like the concept of DF, you will wait for it. And nothing besides a official statement it have gotten cancelled will change that. So whats really interesting is this: will you play it if it gets released?
If no, WTF are you doing here? I dont go and scream vapoware in the WAR forum, just because i dont like the concept of that game. And if you believe everything in the world is perfect and always work as you want...you are in for a hell of surprise.
So, relax......its only a game. Maybe it will come.....maybe it wont. But tat dont change the fact i really wanna play a MMO like Darkfall.

plain and simply ridiculous
funny thing a whole alot mroe people have seen alot mroe than we have trust me they like it
but hey belive what you want
Try and keep WoW out of this.

The lies never stop.

The beta 2002 was announced by the Razorwax company before they emerged with Aventurine. The ambition level were raised after they emerged and game 2002 have very little to do with the game of today.

The internal target date 2007 for beta was never a promise http://df.warcry.com/forums/read/270.42541 and it was discussed during the later developer journals http://df.warcry.com/news/view/72954-Developer-Journal-10-State-of-Development and http://df.warcry.com/news/view/75587-Developer-Journal-from-Tasos so a lack of information were never there. Cant understand where you got that from? So they updated the information they HAVE put out there. You were wrong. And the information was accurate and trustfully. What you lack is knowledge, your just not informed enough and whats the reason for that i think you should ask yourself.
If some fanbois wanna hype beta dates is nothing i blame the developers for.

So no point in telling me to go away, I won't, and expect me to debate all efforts to over promote (or incorrectly flame) this game and its capabilities. Welcome to my MMORPG.com.
Yeah your not even worthy of a discussion since youre starting in the wrong end. You dont believe what you can read up on. End of discussion.
And sorry to say, your post history is worthless to me since you fabricate your own truth. How can you discuss if the developers written words is lies? What do you base your facts on? In what degree do they lie? 10%, 25% or 50%. You see its no point discuss with people that already choosen not too believe whats put forth to ya. Its meaningless.
And only assumptions i made concerning you was that you as a seemingly EvE fan chooses to downtalk Darkfall for whatever reason? If thats a wrongly made up assumption, i appologize. And spending your time, workload and funds on developing the game instead of making huge promotings with fantasie sums seems to me a good assumption that the game will hit the shelfs in due time and the demand for subs will be lower.
Rest was facts.
heres a quote from April 6th 2004

When is Beta?
Darkfall is currently in the final stages of internal beta testing. This means that the game is being tested in-house in preparation for public playtesting. A beta registration form will become available on this website soon.

We understand that you want to know specifics about the beta testing and the game launch. All we can say responsibly is that we can see light at the end of the tunnel and we'll let you know as soon as we know for sure. The beta forms have been ready for months and our tester evaluation is an ongoing process.

We do have an internal milestone for the beta as the fans perceive it, and that's the state where the game can be playtested and fun could be had. We're nearing this stage...
Wait, you gotta be kidding me. There are actually people who still believe this game is going to go live some day?
Yeah, I mean a game being delayed? That is unheard of. I bet Spore is vaporware since it has been delayed so many times.
Your mind is like a parachute, it's only useful when it's open.
Don't forget, you can use the block function on trolls.
I still don't get it, are some of you guys/gals trying to convice us so we don't want to play this game? If so, you will fail until the devs say themself that they won't release it.
This is not politics or religion it's a game. Don't be so childish and act by your age instead.

The Sceptics, yes they're special but we've need them to.. I guess.
And if they're put more effort MMORPG.com can create a 'Team Sceptic'
and send them to the Special Olympus.
Exactly!
