eh, whatever. you guys can go play Wow and it's army of clone games that are all identical. Something different and unique, taking the genre forward, is obviously not for everyone.
unless you're a noob you're gonna have all the 2, 3 and 4 button combos macro'd to 1 key. wheres you innovation then?
Just because I'm in an MMO hating mood right now, I hope this game utterly fails and you all come back here crying and lamenting over what could have been....
Thats the Sprit man !

not going to do you much good if the opponent strafes out the way then you run out of the weapon arc of opponent and round the back of them for a kill while they are still on combo 3. Or even using all your stamina in that 1 button press so you cant retreat if needed.

which is why the combat system isn't that great in the 1st place. motion captured combos that you can't use while moving. all the pvp videos i 've seen posted today are all using standard melee no combos.

It's possible. I'm sure lazy people will do it. I've never been much of a fan of macros and scripts myself..I prefer to play the game I'm paying for instead of it playing itself.
You won't ALWAYS have time or opportunity for a combo anyway. Think with a bit of strategy, set up an opportunity for a combo. They wouldn't be too much fun if they were ALL you ever used anyway.

Makes it sound like gankfest capital of the world, the opponent is on combo 3 and he has no defense when you go 'round back and kill him from behind. If i read that right?
And who retreats in a game like AoC, when you'll be so full of adrenaline?
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
As long as there are no major bugs at launch AOC will be very successful because it isn't trying to compete with WOW or attempt to make WOW 1.5 . It's almost a complete opposite which is a good thing.

ok when you get your ass handed to you for being slower than peoples macro we'll see how long you stick with it.
Reasons why this game will flop: Linear exploring - no open areas, walk on paths everywhere. Impossible combo execution for a "clicker" player, when expected to run/aim/shoot/shield/etc. at the same time. Lack of PvP importance (Capture the flag? Really?). The graphics are pretty, but how far will that carry the game? Not to many people can afford the type of machine needed to run AoC on max.
From what I've seen, the game appears to become repetative and dull. But hey, I'll probably still give it a shot after the first few reviews come out for shits and giggles.

You can't move to the next phase of the macro until the animation has finished for the last, so it's irrelevant. It requires timing, not button mashing.
Besides, I've always done pretty damn good in other games without macros.

We could use that your argument for all games then. Some still more popular than others. Lest you forgot there is PvE too
Its even easier to macro everything up in an auto attack game, least with this one you have to pay attention to what your doing more so, instead of the one button setup videos as seen in WoW.

Too funny mate too funny...
You basing your reasons off the PVP minor area weekend??
Linear noob island start to the game. Obviously its not as open, its a small island.
Whats impossible in combos when clicking on them instead on button pushing?
PvP importance in a mini game?? doesnt really have any, apart from rank and 1 v 1 or group epeen status. Oh and the fun element too. Try going to the Border Kingdoms
You know there are people playing on $400 machines having fun?
Misinformed and completely wrong but its ok.
I would be more worried about the state of your other favourite game then looking for arguments here that are poorly executed..

Agree...
This is a game that is easy to get into and hard to master. It's a breath of fresh air really.
Poof! The NDA for the weekend is gone, and for once, most people seem happy. There are still a good deal of technical issues (I for one had none though) but I am really enjoying the gameplay. I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to pre order this game, but I just put my $90 down for the CE today. Can't wait to roll my Priest of Mitra on may 17th. Now to look for a good guild.
Got on liek 20mins ago, seeing mostly good reviews about the pvp weekend cheer me up tbh. Few bashing the combat system aren't even in the beta (duh!). So great news!

You're assuming that is where I got the information. Wrong. While I did participate, I've read reviews on other sites where the author was disappointed. Linear noob island start to the game. Obviously its not as open, its a small island. Again, I'm not an idiot. I did not base anything I said on the starting area. Whats impossible in combos when clicking on them instead on button pushing? This doesn't make sense. There are two types of mmo players, clickers who use the mouse to activate abilities, and mashers who use the hotkeys. Two very different types, and if you are a clicker, AoC is frustrating. PvP importance in a mini game?? doesnt really have any, apart from rank and 1 v 1 or group epeen status. Oh and the fun element too. Try going to the Border Kingdoms I don't see the point in fighting each other without a reward. Does capture the flag even fit into the lore...? You know there are people playing on $400 machines having fun? I haven't heard that. Where'd you get that from? Misinformed and completely wrong but its ok. Lol fanboi. I would be more worried about the state of your other favourite game then looking for arguments here that are poorly executed.. I made fair points that have been agreed upon by not only weekend players but beta testers as well.
I cant agree more with the OP. All I can say about this game is WOW ITS THE BOMB. I was really excited to find out my 512mb ram, 128mb video card could run this game! Not at top notch graphics but even with the graphics toned down as low as they will go I still am amazed at the beautiful world hyboria holds.
Funcom is definatly getting a pre-order special edition from me!
Hate to burst your bubble, but from my understand, you get 8 characters total across all servers. At release, if you want to play all the classes, you either have to delete toons or buy a second copy for an extra account.
Definately enjoying the wide range of views on the weekend.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
eh, whatever. you guys can go play Wow and it's army of clone games that are all identical. Something different and unique, taking the genre forward, is obviously not for everyone.

Why? I'm assuming you mean melee, because spellcasters/ranged are no harder (from what I've seen) than other games. Targetting is not hard. Cone damage is even easier. So, for melee, lets see what you have to master.
Reactionary combat; hitting left if he's defending right, and defending right if he's hitting left. If you have reflexes and a good system, how is this hard? Once you learn combos (and Funcom makes them easier to execute) will you have to think about them? It's new, but I don't think it's hard to master. (By master I'm not talking about you can block every single attack and retaliate with lightning speed, obliterating your enemy with your eyes closed.) If this is going to become the new standard for combat, so be it, but the "wow!!!" factor will probably be gone soon.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" No....
I mean the game as a whole. Take the "stealth" system for example. This is a system that takes so much into account (class, armor, lighting, time of day, distance, los) and that is just one of Many, Many, elements to this game. It's simply amazing how much detail is in this game. This is a true thinking mans game...very mature, very end game friendly.
It's complexity reminds me of Pre-CU SWG...Very grown up game.

No....
