Hate to burst your bubble, but from my understand, you get 8 characters total across all servers. At release, if you want to play all the classes, you either have to delete toons or buy a second copy for an extra account. Definately enjoying the wide range of views on the weekend.
Age of Conan looks nice and all But it looks like it's trying to be to real.. I mean you need alot of Realistic things into a mmo don't get me wrong but the GOOD Stuff is the Fake stuff.. The combo system looks great it's just.. Well.. I like alot of Eye Candy On weapons/armor and Spells/Abilities and with all the videos i've been seeing well.. I Didn't see a whole lot of eye candy or good abilities.. I don't think i'll be getting it because of that.... Deep gamplay is one thing but when the Weapons/Armor/Abilities are Bland plain and boring.. then the mmo experience is ruined.
well, it's supposed to be a realistic low-phantasy game. No pink "helmets of uber pwnage" here, sorry to say.
Yup hardcore dirty grit!...Blood, Boobs, and Gore! This is not yo momma's MMORPG.

You obviously are blind, WoW clone eh, with a new inventive combat system, you still refer to it as a WoW clone. Jesus christ...genius. Go troll under that bridge over there, I hear the billy goats coming.
[[ DEAD ]] - Funny - I deleted my account on the site using the cancel account button. Forum user is separate and still exists with no way of deleting it. Delete it admins. Do it, this ends now.
What is inventive about pressing 3 button combo's? If you want real inventive, you should look for TCoS, Darkfall and possibly Jumpgate Evolution.
Aye, press 3 keyboard buttons like a maniac isnt what i call a game that take MMORPG PvP any further. Rather the opposite.
That is a personal vision of what you think is good. But it's combat system is a refreshing change. I think this is what he wanted to say by "inventive". But I'm not yet very convinced tbh at this point. All though I will buy it in May, just not sure yet if I will keep playing for a long time.
This game is far from being a WoW clone... Look at the latest WAR videos, and look at beta impressions of Aion. They are both shaping up to be complete WoW clones. At least WAR has the RVR DAoC style as a main focus of the game. Look at the UI though and where they are taking the graphics.
Age of Conan is not just 3 buttons, but later more directions open up. Also the combos for PVP weekend were only 2 direction combos. They get more and more advanced as you level. Also mounted combat comes into play later in the game, and the crafting is unique in the Architect class that can build buildings/cities. Then there is the huge guild cities and PVP sieges at end game, cut scenes for destiny quests, fatalities, the setting, the environment, the graphics, the way stealth works, the amazing sound, and more...
This game is exactly what the genre needed and just needs to iron out some of it's technical glitches and will only grow better with time. Who cares if it beats out WoW for subs? That's like saying Chick Filet isn't successful because it doesn't beat out McDonalds for customers. There are a large large number of WoW players that I would rather stay in WoW then come over. This game is going to be successful and as long as it has a few populated servers i'll be happy. Someone earlier said something about 200k subs like it was a bad thing. I am praying that it stays under 500k and I don't have to deal with bogged down servers and the type of people that populate 80% of WoW servers..

Say hello to the 14 year olds lookin for the Blood, Boobs, and Gore.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
I've had no techical issues really. I'm running the top of the line EVGA 8800 gt in a dell dual core 3.2 system with vista home premium 32 bit (3gb ram). For reference, in windows vista, you're expected to have a minimum score of 4.0 with a recommended score of 4.8 -- I have a 5.1 (restrained by cpu speed.) Also, for those who don't know, directx10 was disabled for this weekend (as were voices.) Regardless of that, the game looked pretty nice. After setting the graphics to "high", the only custom change I made was to alter shadows to "player only" because I had some slight hitching when shadows were on everything and being redrawn constantly because of the dynamic lighting through the jungle canopy. Aside from that, in certain cases, brightness seemed to be really high on whites or super-lighted objects (around lamps and such, thus causing things and characters to be a bit diffused.)
I made a few characters (some just to play with the character creator which is very much like the swg one, except you have more sliders) and went through the tutorial island excerpt twice -- in the tutorial, everyone starts out swinging an oar but depending on the class, you get a small taste of spells and abilities. Once you hit level 5ish and are about to enter the city, you get sent straight to the pvp waiting room with all upgraded equipment, spells/abilities for a level 20. Admittedly, at this point, I've only been in a handful of games and got my butt handed to me in all of them -- I'm hoping later tonight and tomorrow to squeeze in more time. As mentioned earlier, the Ranger class will be getting tuned down in a bit but otherwise everything seemed smooth. No, I have not pulled off a combo in pvp yet but that was more because of gaming opportunities.
I think my biggest gripe (struggle may be a better word) at the moment is really setting and swapping out the shields. By default, the key layout is 1-2-3 for left, above ,and down attacks with control-1-2-3-4 for setting your shelds. Swapping between the attack and defense on the same buttons, using multiple button presses to set the shields, is a bit un-intuitive (for me!) at the moment and I think I'll be re-mapping that. It should be said though, you will not be relying on those 3 buttons exclusively -- if you say or think that, then you're deluding yourself and/or have an agenda to delude others into thinking that.
In general, I'd say Funcom is very much on top of things -- they've been posting updates at the login screen of any issues that they have observed as well as brought down the servers to make tweaks for patches -- I wound up not playing last night since they planned to bring the server down for 2 hours around 8ish. I'd expect that given the situation and 50,000 player beta next weekend that they will be very well prepared for launch in May -- it's looking polished.
Will I buy the game? The jury is still out but I'm leaning towards yes. Why? The system looks to be pretty sound in the small bit I've played and if the system works well, then that means I can reliably play in a world of new adventures and quests I've never seen before. I'm not hooked on this idea of "innovation" or "clones" like some others -- a new rule system is intriguing but for me it's about new stories.
Finally, I'd like to say that it is extremely humorous that most of the detractors in this thread are simply suggesting what they think will be better, especially when they have nothing better than hype to back up their words. For you darkfall/mortalonline/warhammer fanbois: your opinions are quickly discounted.
Heh, looks like someone got tired of waiting for Darkfall..
Anyway to the thread, Age of Conan will be populat no doubt but ultimately its 'Adult' audience is its fatal flaw.
A large portion of gamers are not Adults, however a large portion of them are in the college range. That might balance it out.
Alot of kids will be playing it, no worries there lol. Community won't suffer alot though cause a big part of immature people are >18. Though if u think the M rating will keep kids out, ur sadly mistaken!
People should take what PvP weekend testers say with a grain of salt.
There are still currently masses of issues with AoC from class balance, to memory leaks, to crashes, to broken quests, to graphical errors, to underdeveloped combat, to dumbed down game mechanics, to extremely repetitive and lackluster game play etc. etc. etc.
Ya apparently there's more to AoC than what the weekend testers saw.
They intentionally spent the majority of testing to polish the Tortage first 20 levels area, and PvP battle grounds so that it would appeal to the 'first-galncers' and thus get more hype.
I'm not saying AoC sucks horribly, I'm just saying it's no where as good as people assume it is from their brief encounter. Just warning to not get your hopes up as I did.
seems to be a split mark for this game so far, 50% rate is good, 35% rate it badly and 15% dont give a rating (yet). not surprised by that myself. Looks like a medicre game judging from feedbacks.
What worries me is the crashing problems when zoning. So far, its one i aint running out to buy at release, thats for sure, especially from the reviews so far.
I'm been a member on this site longer then you and uninstalled WoW over a year ago, and that is not enough, out of all games I play I enjoy Vanguard more then WoW.... NUFF SAID. Notice the sarcasm?
actually i didn't lol. I do not even know what this whole thread discussion is about. The guy just stated its a very good game, possibly the best to date. and everyone has to put in there 2 cents.

Then why isn't the thread titlte: AoC: A Promising Game? He makes it sound like fact when he hasn't experienced it very much AND it's not even released.

You can choose the direction of your attacks.
Yea its not inovative, its a WoW clone!
One guy mentioned Darkfall.
Ok then go play Darkfall and nevermind Age of Conan...OH WAIT, DARKFALL DOESNT EXIST!

I dont think any MMO can match the prepubescent wow phenomenon, its a 3D myspace, with a gamer e-peen
I'm still stunned that a non-Asian developer was able to get fluid & visually pleasing characters into the game.
Kudos. See you all in Hyboria.

Yes! Because no intelligent adults like blood, boobs or gore......
LOL, yeah that's right, one adult would EVER be interested in that.
To be honest, people who are decrying the timbre of the material need to step back and really understand what Conan is about.
I challenge anyone who is unhappy about the blood, boob and gore to read Conan.
It IS about blood boobs and gore.
