I have a feeling that Age of Conan going to be something like dungeon siege or something just my feeling. If so then World of Warcraft will still rank higher then it. Then again Starcraft 2 is coming out and its surely going to be a success.
The PvP event brought very strong memories of MKII in an arcade but with enough controllers and quarter slots for 30 people. Fun - yes, but fun 6 hrs later ?
Thats a mini game for you. I've never played one 6 hrs straight. Get bored after a while. But for a quick go here and there, they are pretty popular, just have to look at GW games for that.
agree...
It's an easy way to get into the game or if you only have a few minutes to play...why not jump into a Death Match with a few buds! The bottom line is AoC has a tone of game play options. This is one of the reasons I know this game is going to be HUGE!!!....
GAME OF THE YEAR HUGE!!!!
I found the PVP beta very addictive,(NDA Lifted for this beta) with a few class balancing tweaks it could truly fun. i played through half my weekend playing the PVP beta of AOC. the lvl 1-5 tutorial was a small taste which i found engaging and interesting, especially the dynamic chaning musical scores when i fought. this experience has pretty much cemented my positon on securing a pre-order of the CE version. so i feel this game will be pretty successful, will it kill Wow? nah im not even stressing it kill wow, personally i dont want it to kill off Wow, competition is healthy for the genre. but i think it will definitely create competition for wow as it will garner a good 1-2 million players. if all goes as planned and it is successful as I think it should be. but i guess we will soon see.

I personally dont see it hitting a million mark....i am going to say 500k peak. But still very good for an mmorpg
<-- Miagi's alt cause god forbid you don't conform to the masses and have legitimate questions
I personally can care less if it hits a million or not when you are playing in a server your not on with the whole million anyways, all I care about is if the game is good and I enjoy it I want to play something fun.
One word...AMAZING!!!! This game really has it all together. It has all the elements you want in an MMORPG. 1) Spectacular Graphics 2) Excellent Content 3) NEW, FUN, and INTERESTING UI 4) Great backstory that allows RP guys to really get into game. 5) When the RANGER profession is taken down a notch, PVP will be FANTASTIC! 6) So much to do and see and so little time to get it all in 7) Character Customization ranks up there with CoH 8) Game play is FAST, FURIOUS, and down right FUN!!! 9) This is a game that if managed the right way will provide Millions of players years of fun. 10) This is a game that is easy to get into but very difficult to master. The funny thing is I have only seen a very small part of the game. I could go on and on! The bottom line is, this could be the best MMORPG ever made. I can't wait to get into this badboy on May 17th!!!
Well thats your opionion I personaly had more fun playing "Pirates of the carribean" trial than AoC.. I found the game play slow and dumb. So to summerise I wont be subbing to AoC in May.. although I am sure many others will.
Ill wait around for TCoS or the WoW expansion.
Just because you have to press buttons doesn't mean it's fast.
actually having to USE your weapons instead of just having autoattack / spam specials may just be too advanced for some of you then....but I fail to see how it's "slow".
What's the point? It's new at first, but after a week or so (unless it's too advanced of course) you'll get the hang of it. Then it'll be like "meh", like the autoattack has become. And I've heard how annoying combos are to pull off, especially in PvP; hope they fix that. Once you get used to it, it won't seem as fast. Just an underlying part of the game, and the "wow! innovation!" factor will be virtually gone. Look forward to it now though, by all means
the combos can be annoying at first, but once u memorize the key movements of each attack it becomes second nature. to me i love the fighting system highly inventive take on old school fight systems but adds a interactive element that requires constant input by the player. i like being able to decipher a players defense and take advantage of it. i think its a step in the right direction of sword based mmo's. i think we got too much into auto attack mentality that requires little thinking by the player. i found that tactics, and teamwork what helps you win in a pvp match or fight in general. most MMO's dont really require that level of thinking.
WOW is fun, but in raids all it comes down to is optimizing dmg, ranged, and heals, does it require thinking, yeah that much i will say it does, requires interpreting the Mob/Raid boss to take him down, everything else on down to the individual player him or her self requires little or no thinking on what to do, u auto attack, press 1234 rinse repeat until the mob dies, in AOC having 2-3 mobs come at you knowing where they are vulernable and how to dispatch them feels more visceral and immersive on a individual level i feel i got more out of it that i learned something from that experience. but then again most people arent into that they like stuff overly simple that requires little thinking, instant gratification, it not necessarily a bad thing, its just a personal choice for them for others like me i like to think, interact, and use tactics, which turns into a more enjoyable visceral experience for me.

i definitely agree too. game has to be fun thats what i care about. but i was merely commenting on the overall potential sucess of the game as a whole. thats all.

Oh don't get me wrong...i don't beleive that numbers make the game. My favorite mmos are the smaller ones, swg (pre nge), EvE, and LOTRO (granted its got a solidly large playerbase). But my problem is the condition the game is released. SWG was buggy but unique and supplied me with almost 5yrs of entertainment. EvE also unique, and LOTRO may be a cookie cutter, but the graphics, storyline and lore make it a gem.
Now we look at AOC, good lore, nice graphics, but funcom as a whole is a company i have to take a double look at. And from all said reports, bugs are pretty much everywhere.
Take for example, this pvp beta weekend. I was enjoying myself the first day, second day....was ok...not as great as the first. Third day....the stupid assassin exploit was found and totally ruined pvp this weekend for me, as well as the overall feel of the game.
Why? Well....if their showcase portion/pvp beta tech/marketing they did this weekend (whatever you want to call it) had some really serious issues as the one which pretty much ruined pvp for me and a few others....makes me highly dubious of the rest of the game, and when pvp actually matters.
So for now, i am going by my original plan: wait a few months, get a trial/buddy key and then try it again. Until then i have a few i can play or play some Oblivion as well. I am not dying for a mmorpg, since LOTRO is keeping me happy (just started 2 months ago and loving it). I do hope Funcom can rise above their AO rep and get rid of these serious issues.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
Without becoming in violation with the NDA, I have to say that I honestly find AoC to be very lacking. It is missing a lot of what is included in the hype. It doesn't appear that it will live up to the expectations that have been placed upon it. If I were to choose today if I would purchase the game, I would pass.
So, if you are really wanting to check it out then go ahead. Just remember you have been warned.

Sorry, but a warning from someone who tries to pretend they're in the beta is sort of funny. if you've even watched any information about aoc you'd know they've said multiple times Spellweaving/border kingdoms/seiging will never be tested by beta testers, and they plan to have it in by launch or right after.
so, besides that, what exactly is it missing?

AoC devs stated that if they hit 500k subs, they will declare this game as a success.
I am most certain that in a year-year and a half this game will have about 750k-1m subs. Or at least I hope.
