I think this whole "this game is mostly pvp, you want pve go elsewhere" nonsense needs to stop. Its going to mislead potential players into going with some other game. And we want players, we want pve'ers too, believe it or not. The frontlines people (the pvpers) are not going to want to take out alot of time to do all the pve quests to help their war effort. Barnett wouldnt get all giddy about all those quests he described in hilarious detail if the game was "mostly pvp." It, I believe is equal amounts of both. Otherwise, why would we get told that we can play the entire game without pvping once?
I know you guys mean well (or I want to think you do), but please stop with that. Find some other way to say it so that its not going to make all the pve'ers hide in other games. Look at me, if I hadnt taken the time to post the thread I did, I would still be thinking this is a mostly pvp game with little to no pve.
This couldnt of been said better, Kitsunedgirl. Its been directly addressed on MANY occasions that every quest contributes tot the WAR effort. The PVE types have tons of reasons to play this game. I mean, come on, Raid and Dungeon instances opened by the RVR types laying waste to the enemy capital. Once its safe, the really neet stuff opens up and then theres the crafting!
Trust me the stuff in Tier 1 Mark is nothing at all like Keeps. Its just land. Honestly though the others are right yes the game's core mechanic is based aroudn PvP but the game is based around RvR which encorporates everything.
PvE players will love what WAR has to offer and hopefully experiment with some PvP.
Personally I love PvE the most but I'm going to be doign everything its within my nature since there is a REASON to kill players from the otherside besides just for entertainment. Thats what attracts me to PvP in WAR....a reason to kill....otherwise I find PvP just for the hell of it ... rather boring.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

So very true! Thats kinda why I started a mostly PvE guild! I know there are players out there that like to PvE more than just PvP all the time! There is a ton of PvE content in this game and I want you for my guild if thats what you would like to focus on! hehe
lol youre so persistent. xD Ill join, just havent filled out the app yet. ^.^

Lol, sry wasn't really directly meaning "you, kitsunegirl" should join! Was more referencing "you the PvE" players! Though now that you have applied for the guild , I do hope you stick around and play WAR with us...
So if you're a level 40 and attack a level 20 you're turned into a chicken? So what's the point of levels? That's gonna have a real epic feel.
This is like the 10th time I've read about someone complaining that you get turned into a chicken for attacking a lower player character! Please do a little research or just read past posts in this thread!
You "DO-NOT" get turned into a chicken for attacking lower level players...you "DO" turn into a chicken if you enter a Tier 1 or 2 RvR area to prevent high level players of disrupting the lower players in those areas trying to enjoy the content as it was made to be played and have a good time!
This is extremely brilliant, cause I'm really tired of the high levels coming into low areas in all games and ruining the game play! This also stops Power Leveling a lower level friend through 1/2 of the game or helping them in anyway with your Maxed out chars! Now you need to start a new one or use an alt in the same level range!
Mmmm....This game already smells of carebear. Might just let it pass.
So if you're a level 40 and attack a level 20 you're turned into a chicken? So what's the point of levels? That's gonna have a real epic feel.
Not that ganking is a good thing, but it's an accepted practice for pvpers. Bring more people to kill the gankers.
You can always take your low level toon and his buddies into higher tier areas and zerg solo enemies for that "epic" feel.
The chicken applies only if a higher tier character enters lower tier rvr areas... So, it is your choice rather than ganker's if you want to play with large level differences.
Get rid of that system. and bring back the murder system
why do they need to drop it? becuse you suck at PVP and want to go wait in low level zones and gank lowbies? theres no reason to get rid of it. i hate gankers, dumbet shit ever in WOW. but they said they may have a server without it on open rvr.

How about you suck at flame baiting personal attacks. Post something useful or don't post at all.
I think there is some confusion about the chicken rule. The chicken rule does not prevent a higher level player from fighting a lower level player, if that lower level player is in a higher level area. It /does/ prevent the higher level player from travelling back to the newbie area to gank the lower level characters in their RvR area.
A player can travel back to the Tier 1 areas as much as they like, even if they are lvl 40. They just aren't allowed in the RvR area for that tier, nor can they participate in the RvR scenario for that tier. If this bothers you, don't play. You can call it carebear if you like, but all of the other games have some sort of system in place to dissuade people from doing the same thing, whether it is instant death, or simply not allowed. Even Eve has a system in place that prevents one from killing the newbies. Of course, these rules are null and void on the FFA servers, as backwards travel would not be allowed.
As far as tome unlocks, you have to make your own choice about that. Work on them as you've levelling up, which isn't that hard. Or burn through the levels trying to do that mad dash up to 40 so you can be uber and leet, then realize you're really not when you skipped over half the content and are missing some cool skills that come from tome unlocks. Besides, being a chicken doesn't prevent you from getting the tome unlocks, it just makes it a bit more difficult.
Level 12 in a fight with level 9-11's turns into a Chicken. EPIC FAIL! Cute idea, shitty implimentation.
Thread revival is bad mmkay.
Weird, the Chicken topic is pretty hot atm in other places. Wonder why search dug this one out. :S
Who knows, but oh well. I hope they can figure something out for Open servers where the chicken only applies in enemy territory or something other than the entire Tier, but if not at least there is still open PvP for your Tier and up.
People like to focus on the level 40 griefing level 1's and automatically start flaming, but that's not the issue. Not too many people are looking for that option.
The chicken mechanic locks you out of previous areas, therefore it ruins ToK filling and lair exploring. This will be a serious issue for people choosing the Open rules server and has nothing to do with griefing lowbies, rather is about limiting content in a game that already has low amounts of content.
Many think you turn into a chicken then you go gank some lowbie or help in lowbie PvP, this isn't the case. You're chickened when crossing zones.
I believe the real mechanic is, you get chickened *when entering pvp mode* in lower tiered rvr zones. The kicker is that on open pvp servers, you are always in pvp mode. Therefore there is no way to escape being chickened in lower areas on an open pvp server. Whereas on a core rules server, you can avoid becoming a chicken in lower tier areas as long as you keep your pvp flag off and stay out of the pvp zones.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

It seems like it will be "good" if you are the newb getting ganked and "bad" if you are the ganker.
IMO, l2p and stop ganking newbs... chicken stays.

Replace the cows with some Black Orcs and paint the letters red.
STOP WHINING!
I'd say it depends entirely on how long it take to rough up 5 buddies and get them to jump through the needed hoops
