Drop The Chaos Chicken Rule

I think the "chicken" mechanic is a good idea on a couple of different levels.  First, it will stop the newbie gankers from getting their jollies off.  Second, and the reason I think the mechanic will be fun is that I plan to sponsor "chicken race" events where a party or warparty of higher level characters have to negotiate a race course through a lower tier RvR area.  The first one through the course alive gets bragging rights and maybe a prize.  The fact you have only one HP and the lower level characters can stomp you out of existence only adds to the challenge of the event.  I personally think this will be great fun, allow people who want an extreme challenge to still be able to PvP at an extreme disadvantage, and lets players who aren't too full of themselves to kick back and have a good laugh.

As far as the people who complain the "chicken" mechanic removes the challenge of leveling up, then all you have to do is level up through higher tier RvR (in the preview weekend I captured all the tier 2 Human/Chaos RvR objectives with a level 6 character), or flag yourself for PvP in the PvE areas (right click on your character status bar).  I'm sure some repressed ganker will take it upon themselves to stomp you into the ground if you give them the opening.  I for one like the option of playing more evenly matched PvP without having a gank squad of ridiculously higher levels stomping on my character for 6 hours.

    I hope this helps.

p.s. to all those players worried about missing a tome unlock in a lower tier, maybe you should go back to playing pokemon.  It's more geared toward the obsessive compulsive collector play style.

Good, the chicken is staying.  I vote for chicken!

They're going to try different rulesets anyway so give it some time.

I love it,  it reminds me of one of the Sword of Truth books, which begins with a chicken monster.. there's a chicken that doesnt seem quite right in the village and Richard swears its no ordinary chicken. This is just hilarious and eerie when you think that beneath any of the local chickens pecking about, might lurk a deadly maurader.

People will level so fast in WAR that it won't matter.

I was already attracted to WAR before I knew about this chicken system, it, among other things, helped seal the deal.

I absolutely love that mythic is foiling griefing scum in this way.

In addition, I'm not sure whether or not you can still use abilities in chicken form, but if they make it so that you can, it could lead to some interesting scenarios.

From what I know, there are Unlocks for killing players as a Chicken (which had 150 hp in CB).

When I outleveled the Tier 1 RvR area, I was not instantly turned into a Chicken, I turned into one when I attempted to use a spell to attack a member of the enemy team.

If your just complaining about not being able to kill someone 20 levels lower than you in an RvR area, grow up.

If you are complaining about not being able to be an achievement whore and get every unlock in the ToK, Good luck with it, there are so many to begin with, it's not funny, but it will keep you busy for a while.

The Chicken is going to stay, it is fun to play as the Chicken (and no, leaving the RvR area does not remove the Chicken status, it stays until you die and respawn).

Now, I will be in the Chicken Raids on the Tier 1 rvr if anyone needs me.

The chicken mechanic locks you out of previous areas, therefore it ruins ToK filling and lair exploring.  This will be a serious issue for people choosing the Open rules server and has nothing to do with griefing lowbies, rather is about limiting content in a game that already has low amounts of content.
Many think you turn into a chicken then you go gank some lowbie or help in lowbie PvP, this isn't the case.  You're chickened when crossing zones.

Its already been confirmed by Mythic that being Chickened won't stop you filling your ToK

It DOESN'T lock you out of previous areas at all...  Just from attacking enemies ofa lower Tier

The only time the chicken will affect you is if you attack lowbies in the rvr parts of the lowbie zones.. Dunno why people think that'll lock them out of the normal lowbie areas, because it won't. Only a small open pvp section of that zone will do it (unless of course some lowbie wanders around pvp flagged somewhere else..) If on the other hand just entering the open pvp areas gets you chickened.. so what.. its still just a small area.

You get chickened if you try to gank, that's all. (assuming its not just walking into the small rvr open pvp parts of maps)

Therefore people complaining about it are the ones most likely to have been affected by that, and aren't worth paying attention to, or are just uninformed about how the game works despite the number of times it's been said, and so aren't worth paying attention to.

    Can you link that confirmation?

Cause I got a recent video of a dwarf getting chickened without attacking anyone, right here:

Your in Tier 1 and are about to level to 12 and your already in a PvP zone ( this does not include scenarios ). The moment you turn 12, you get a 10 second timer telling you that you have outleveled this Tier and will now be turned into a chicken.
If you do not leave the PvP area within those 10 seconds, you will indeed become a chicken. As a chicken you can not attack or use any abilities what so ever, I don't even think you can sprint. Also, your health drops down to 200 and well, you have just become extremely easy prey to just about anyone.
So, I hope this helps everyone understand the very complicated procedure involved to stop ganking.

Yes thats how it goes in a Core RVR server (all beta servers). However, what will happen in Open RVR servers? The moment you flight to lower tier for w/e reason (lets say help a friend kill a PQ boss). You turned into a chicken (since RVR flag always on).

I hope that will fix this problem, one will turn into a chicken (after 10 seconds or so) if they attack/attacked by another player, or something like that. It really sucks to not go back to previous tiers in an Open RVR server just because of this rule.

Stuff like THAT is why I'm so glad I decided to start following Mythic and development of WAR

Looks like the gankers are going to have to learn to fight in PvP for real instead of killing helpless opponents.   Or better yet maybe they'll avoid WAR all together since they won't be allowed to get their jollies.    Judging from the OP's polls, Mythic can survive driving away gankers who are less than 10% of the dedicated players who read forums (and we make up a small percentage of actual players).

Plus Mythic no doubt realized not having that kind of player in the game will only make it that much better.

Ok, first of all, PvE in WAR doesn't require higher level assistance, so once again, why would you need to venture back into a previous Tier? I'm not exactly sure how Open RvR ruleset will work, but if it means being a chicken anywhere in a lower level Tier, then so be it. Seriously, PvE isn't completely necessary and if completing the ToK is your entire purpose in WAR, than I feel sorry for you. I don't have anything against explorers and quest freaks, but I can't stress this enough. WAR is about WAR and while PvE plays a role in the overall success of a realm, the main focus of WAR remains to be RvR.

In what line did I mention completing the ToK? If you think this game is only focus in RVR, then I am sorry for you too. PvE plays a huge role in zone capture just like Open RVR does. As does why would I need to venture back into previous tier? I am using it as an example If you actually read the post. People these days post reply and complain, flame, troll, bash for no reason. YES, I feel sorry for you too.

p.s. I dont give a shit what you think, this is an mmorpg, if a mmorpg make ppl cant go back to previous "zones" then there is something wrong with the game.

id rather you were shrunk to an appropriate lvl for the zone along with your gear being reduced...that way you can partake in any pvp/rvr in that zone

but still it was always fun gettin that rare lvl 60-70 kill as a lowbie with your lowbie friends in wow

  • StinkyPestStinkyPest Member Posts: 97

WOuld be very cool, would also take a lot of coding to make sure everything was working as intended such as procs (if there are any?) and whatnot. I think it'd be way better than chicken if they'd nerf ya down to the size of  alevel 7 in T1.. 17 in T2... etc.

But if that never happens, I'm ok with chicken. Maybe ONE, yes one sever labled as Gankfest USA or something, that way there'd be no chance of a low population server where everyone would be ganked nonstop by a 40 who has nobody to challange him due to pop.

wrong dude, quit spreading bad info while flaming

The biggest problem isn't level 40's ganking noobs, it's level 12's getting locked out of their PvE content and unable to fight level 11's.  The whole transition system is poorly done and will come as a shocker to many, especially in open RvR.

One simple thing they could add is a simple dialog asking if you want to more on to level 12 and therefore Tier 2, or remain tier 1 to finish your quests and help your friends out till they reach your level.

I wonder if you get a "Pecking" skill that deals 1 damage when you turn into a chicken. That would be awesome :D

On a core server, its correct.

On an open rvr server, its TECHNICALLY still correct, because open rvr makes the whole zone an rvr zone.

So... I don't think that warrents your comment about 'spreading bad info'.

The OP has 'pk' in his name.

His posting history states, and i'm paraphrasing, that he gets his rocks off killing people who have no chance against him (far below in level for example).

He hasn't come back to this thread to either defend himself or explain why he thinks the mechanic is bad.

I think we have 13 pages of troll food here.

make it sound like he is completely wrong, which he is not. You turn into a chicken when flaged for RVR in a zone you are to high for. Obviously if you are in a PvE zone you wont be flaged unless ya choose to.

This only applies to tier 1,2.     3 and 4 are fine

If you are talking about a open server then this rule is the same except you are flaged all the time.
