ok its not a cartoon a orc is a mythical creature its not in anyway like a human its like saying im tired of dragons all they are giant birds that breath fire orc is not a cartoon a damn dragon is not a bird that breathes fire and for a MMO to have graphics like COD4 would be amazing to pull of and nobody is to old for cartoons and not alot of old people play video games :P but some of them do but imagine most people that are going to play warhammer online are going to be atleast -18 but there are adults that will play this game
Warhammer orcs are a cartoon. They look very childish and funny. Completely oposite as what an orc should look. It's ok as a figure in a table, makes you chuckle, but in an MMO looks ridiculous, in my oppinion. No matter how much armor you put on them.
You know what they say about opinions...

I posted this with the hopes of being proven wrong because the game sounds good. All I'm getting is excuses about the Warhammer lore and stuff like that.
You need to comment on the screenshot Solareus posted.
Funny, how the only posts you notice and read are the ones making 'excuses'..
I noticed the post and the screenshots did nothing for me. I respect what he had to say and it makes sense. I personally don't like the look of the game. That doesn't mean I won't like the game itself.
The game sounds fun but it looks so much like WoW (very cartoony) that its hard for me to take seriously.
If you have a valid point I'd love to see it. The truth is animation makes a huge difference too. Thats why i made sure to tell people I am judging by screenshots so that they can give me an honest opinion.
Hey, I might be wrong...thats the way things go..tell me what you think. That is a big reason why the forums are here.
The game really looks nothing like WoW. Why do people keep saying this? And this is coming from someone who plays WAR everyday. As much of a fan of Mythic that I am, if the game looked like WoW I wouldn't play it.
I am wondering why all these developers think adults want to play games that look like a Saturday morning cartoon? Geez, I'm soo sick of little green men and big headed humans with crazy huge muscles. WAR is graphically one of the dumbest looking games I've seen (Granted I'm basing my opinion on screenshots) but I love the idea of the game. I'm just too old for cartoons.
Are you familiar at all with the IP? WAR looks uncannily like Warhammer, and it should. It's not like they were going to make a game and ignore the IP (also, they wouldn't legally be allowed to do it). Just saying.

I am pumped for WAR, but I am not in disagreement with the OP. However, I think realistick graphics would take a lot of high end computers espeically for huge seiges. I'm not so sure if it would be able to get pulled off.

It would help if people would realise that WoW & Warhammer choose their graphics (No not saying they are the same, they are not) to stay true to their IP/Art Style. Expecting otherwise would be wrong. And tbh if you are that old shouldn't you be in our camp of "gameplay is always better then graphics"?
They can make is as prittie as "insert something pretty", but in the end, don't you want fun and smooth gameplay. EQ2 for me a really interesting game and yet it can't persuade me to pay for it since in MY opinion it doesn't have smooth gameplay (movement, combat, npc behaviour...).
Anywho to the OP, forget about this game since it's not what you are looking for and wait for the next big production. If they go cartoony just to copy others then by all means start a rant on em. But don't shoot the games that stay true to their IP.

Okay, let me try to pin the absurdity of this statement.
You say that Warhammer orcs are a cartoon. Thus, you want the opposite, which would be realistic, right? Realistic orcs? I guess you haven't been outside much if you don't know that orcs are not real. They can be expressed in different ways, though they have a base set of requirements for you to say "Hey! That's an orc!", such as green skin, muscles, lack of intelligence, etc. If anything, Warhammer orcs are what all orcs should look like. Just because they have big jaws doesn't make them cartoony.
Though, seeing as the Warhammer world is full of humor, maybe they're supposed to make you chuckle anyways. I know I'd laugh if I get launched from an Orcapult. However, what are they supposed to look like in an MMO? You want them to look different than the tabletop figures? And still call it Warhammer? Do you realize how stupid that is?
Please, please tell me what your definition of a "realistic orc" is...the WoW variety, which is basically a human with green skin, a bit more muscle, and a hunchback? They try to look mean but once you've seen them more than three times you just think "meh. That's not scary at all."
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
I may not even buy WAR but the models look exactly like all those miniatures I painted for my Warhammer armies. If you expected anything different, you never played Warhammer.
Just to clear something up, im not the one who posted wants "realistic orcs" whatver that may be. I was just quoting some other dude.
Right, Altair said it, that's why I replied where he said "Exactly, thank you." .

I do not see what is remotely 'cartoonish' about that screenshot.
I know some of the early alpha stuff does look cartoonish, but just look at THAT screenshot and that alone. Is it really cartoonish?
People really need to stop comparing WAR to any other game and look at it on it's own it is suppose to represent the IP in a MMO format and it does a pretty dam good job in doing that. They have 25 years of license to pull from for ideas and keep it true to the game.
I myself as a long time player really hopes this is only the beginning for the whole GW line. This is game a more akin to LOTRO as it is based off another media, WOW is is based of an RTS game lore, keeping in mind the original RTS was them trying to capture table top play in a computer game.
If you take the game on it's own and look at it's roots I think people will have a better understanding on it's look and this is how its suppose to be. It's hard to get into any game if you don't know it's background unless all you care about is mashing buttons and looking at a screen then any game should satisfy your need.
The one out come I hope is that after a successful launch (I hope) they move to working on a 40K MMO or a Necromunda MMO. Necro or 40K could early fill the SCI FI whole that is missing for years. All good stuff to work with from GW.

I have to disagree. You dont need to know the backstory of an IP to like, or dislike a game. If you know the IP it helps but to say any game should work just simply isnt true. I dont know the WAR IP but I dont need to, to know I am excited about meaningfull RvR/PvP. I dont need to know the IP to like the gameplay. I dont know the WoW IP but I do know I dont want a massive gear/rep grind. Gameplay is what makes games. IP's help sell that game simple as that.
To be honest, I somewhat agree with you. But only to an extent. I am also tired of the games with the over done muscles and the like. But also, you have to consider what it takes to make a game. And if you want something like Call of Duty 4 graphics on a MMORPG, than you have to either spend a LOT of money on servers, and stuff to keep the game running. Or spend not as much, and downgrade the graphics. Plus personally, I think WAR saw what WoW did with their game, and they were successful, so why not make their game like that. One more thing, I hope you know what your getting into, WAR fanbois can get pretty gritty.
Graphics in no way effect server requirements. The main reason to turn graphics down is to make sure enough people will ahve access to the game by lowering the minimum requirement. Another small reason is for effcient additions and expansions to the game.
WAR fanbois do get gritty. But they have reason to when it comes to graphics because they here things like:
Looks too much like WoW
Looks too cartoony
I'm sick of orcs and elves
All these arguements are baseless. Mythic has done a great job making the models look just like the GW table top figurines. Its not becuase they are copying wow. Its not becuase they have no creative team that can;t depart form elves and orcs.
If mythic deviated from the cartoony looks, elves and orcs, and tried NOT to look like WoW they would have had models that didn't look like the WAhammer IP which would have been worse.
If you don't want any of these in your game then WAR ain't for you.
Dislclaimor: Personally I don;t think its too cartoony or looks like WoW. Also, fantasy is best genre for mmo's. If there was good sci fi out there I would play it.
