WAR is graphically one of the dumbest looking games I've seen (Granted I'm  basing my opinion on screenshots) but I love the idea of the game. I'm just too old for cartoons.

 

you're never too old for cartoons. the simpsons, south park and family guy to name just a few. you must be great  fun to be around, lighten up.

If you answered 2 or 3 you should go back to dream land and stop QQing & Whining that its not realistic enough.  These are games..games are not 'real'.   Games are supposed to be fun.  These are MMOS ..until WoW came along there was never this huge QQ whine fest about how realistic the graphics should be and that they should be top of the line.  MMOs have always been a couple of generations behind graphically and tahts why they're allow for Massive Multiplayer and not 16 vs 16 BS from single player games.

First of all...Its an opinion based on screenshots and screenshots can be misleading thats why other people's opinion were asked for.

Second...What you just posted sounds a lot more like whining then an opinion...I'm sorry if i pissed on your shoes but so be it.

Third..If you know something about the topic maybe you should post it instead of the angry crybaby fanboy post you chose..instancing was never mentioned..to be honest I don't mind instancing.

Fourth... I never asked for super shiny graphics..just less cartoony. Hell, even old EQ2 is less cartoony

 

Honestly if I thought you pissed on my shoes I'd of punched you in the face.  You ask for others opinioins yet you wrapped it up in that good ol Troll smelling packages of Cartoons = suxxor kiddy land argument when a good many of us are around your age and think it looks fine.  EQ2 isn't that old genius its bland and mother fucking boring I ended up playing WoW because of laggy boring and shitty the game was.  Only its new areas are rife with life.  It was an abomination to the Everquest 1 game.

To be honest I think you just wanted to start a topic claim you need people to change your mind which you know would never happen and tried to hide the fact its another X billion troll post on this subject.  Honestly I think Mods should lock every thread of this nature and give out warnings to those that persist to write stupidity but..then stupidity isn't a crime either (no im not flaming Just Saying).

btw those of us that could techincally tell you different can't because the game is OMG not damn finished and its still in BETA *gasp* so really you should no better than to supposedly 'ask' opinions when quite frankly you didn't ask in an intelligible manner.

Like, If I want people's opinion on what is the better ffast food I would ask:

"What do you like better? Burger King or McDonalds?"

 

I wouldn't ask:

"What do you like better? Buger King or that cheap ass stuff at McDonalds?'

Well I'll try to bring a little maturity to this thread. I don't know where people are getting this 'cartoony' feel. I just recently checked out Dark Age of Camelot...and if the characters look like that, but a little smoother around the edges, I would be just happy. Have you even seen the detail in DAoC? It's very good. I don't think we have to worry about too cartoony. In the end...that's really what WAR is...just a 2008 updated version of DAoC looks...with a nice splash of Warhammer.

I agree with the OP, but for different reasons. Ive painted Warhammer (40k) miniatures and I have to admit that the current graphics style is recognisable as Warhammer, but then in a too bright and happy way. I expected a darker and more gritty look. The cinematic trailer at least got that right.

The ingame footage that I saw showed me some compromise between Warhammer miniatures and the happy happy joy joy look from WoW. Orc's might be fun to read about because of how stupid and stubborn they are, but they are at the same time rotten evil bastards.

The ingame art doesnt show that enough imo. I can understand why people who are not familiar with Warhammer, see WoW in this when they see the ingame screenshots.

WAR looks like a game with computer graphics, it doesnt' look like a cartoon.  Not sure why you can't tell the difference but there is a pretty significant difference.

Wars graphics are good - the cartoony feel for me comes from the pink shoulder pads and the ability to dye your character like a Rainbow / Teletubbie. Get this on a non enforced naming server and we will see the big bad rainbow Orc with the name "Tinky Winky"

If you can't be an adult enjoy your cartoon with the rest of the kiddies. I based my opinion on sreenshots and didn't even ask about animation until i heard some good opinions.

I spent most of the last few days angry at what MMORPG's are becoming. WAR and Darkfall (both of which have some things i like and some I don't) are pretty much my last hope for a good MMO for a while.

I wrote 4 posts in 2 days strictly out of anger...not because I give a flying crap about who's trolling it.

I want something more then what I'm being offered. Its a damn shame that I can only find the kind of PVP I've been wanting in a game where TBH, and this might piss people off, I don't give a crap about the lore and am not impressed with the graphics.

Like I said before...I really hope this game is as good as it sounds. Just a shame it has to be cartoony.

Anyway, whatever, If you people want to continue to write in this thread to argue with each other...so be it..but I'm really not reading this crap anymore.

Wait a tick.  Actually, WAR's graphics are very, very inline with Games Workshop's standards.  You think they're too bright and happy, you should go back and look at what they considered to be the Golden Demon standard back around 4th Edition Fantasy, or 2nd Edition 40K for that matter.  Bright doesn't even begin to cover it.  Bows were cherry red.  Kid you not.  Warhammer ( both of them ) was meant to be pretty campy back in the day.  It's why Warcraft's orcs and humans look the way they do: they were based off the models from the early 4th/5th edition days.  It's a look that many people still love.

Over the years they've retconned back to the grim and gritty settings they have now but it's really a very recent thing.  I can remember Fantasy turning more gritty back around 2000, and 40K just a little bit before that when they released 3rd Edition.  But before that, cartoony was the name of the game.  I'm actually kind of glad that the ingame graphics have stuck to the license's roots.  Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun in the design of a game. 

...at the risk of being tarred and feathered, I actually kind of hoped that they'd go the cel shade route originally, just so that the game would look as old school as possible.  I'm glad to see Champions intends to go that way at least.

EAMythic uses "Gamebryo" engine developed by Emergent. It is very far from being there own, however it has been extremely modified.

They also used gamebryo for DAoC.

The artwork in the game follows the artwork in previous Warhammer titles, books and tabletop figures. Obviously the IP is not for you... there are plenty of other options out there, you can start with the list on the left here.
