there was more than that in the vid and in a screenshot.

AOc couldnt do it because of the high end gfx

  • Sometimes you come up with a concept, and it's brilliant. But by the time you can implement it, time has marched on, things have changed, and your brilliant concept isn't a big deal anymore.

I'm just saying that if DF had released back in 2003 or 2004 it would have made quite a splash. But now, there are simply dozens of MMORPGs releasing, or scheduled to release. And more PvP is on the horizon as well, including Warhammer.

See I can accept that but the one thing that still sets Darkfall apart is the freedom for the players.  That is what I love about Darkfall, I will use my imagination again.

Well hopefully the world will be large enough (without instant teleports) that you will never have to bump into the major Guilds if thats what you want. You will basically miss out on the richest resource areas where they will all be flocking leaving you to do your thing in quieter but less abundant areas. And if you don't get the point of this system maybe this isn't the game for you.

it will be, which is one of the reasons i cant wait for this game.

look how big the world of EVE is, you can avoid the areas where the largest uber guilds hang out.

there is 0 chance that a guild will be able to take over an entire server, the world is simply too big

if they had released in 2003, it would not have made a splash at all, it would have tanked.  the developers did something us players wish companies would do more often...own up that the game was in terrible shape and delayed the release (in DF's case, started over).

they took pride in their product and when it releases, it will be their best effort.

See I can accept that but the one thing that still sets Darkfall apart is the freedom for the players.  That is what I love about Darkfall, I will use my imagination again.

But, as I posted in another thread, will the game give too much freedom to players? We all know there are huge guilds out there that exist ONLY too grief and exploit the game and cause as much havoc on a server as possible.

So how many times will it take that you lose all of your gear before you quit?

How many times will it take for you to get griefed by a guild exploiting game mechanics before you quit?

Will you continue to play the game and pay the monthly fee when you cannot even login and play because some huge guild has taken over everything?

Freedom is fun for sure; but we all know players will abuse that freedom in every possible way in game and ultimately create a playing environment that is not fun for anyone. When that happens, the game loses players in huge numbers and slowly dies. I would hate to see that happen to Darkfall because it is such a unique idea and concept. However, given the experience and history of the market, it might sound great on paper but in execution it doesn't work. And then thing that recent game have proven is that Darkfall will have ONE chance to draw-in players before its pushed to the trash heap of game failures. And I seriously do not want to see that happen.

See its up to the players to stop that huge guild from taking over everything (which I dont think is possiable)... That is player freedom.  The players must choose how they want the community to work. Players will be able to set up cities in remote locations which will help, also their will be guilds that are always out at sea.  Its up to the community to police itself, if we fail to police the game then its our fault.  That is what I love about Darkfall, the developers are going to allow the players to run the server, the economy, the warfare, the everything.  It is up to us players to make sure the game stays fun and fresh and it allows new players to join.

I am willing to bet that their will be guilds that do nothing but protect and train new players, Look at EvE, open PvP and that community has made that game great and easy for new players to join.  It is up to Community in Darkfall.

That is player Freedom.  It is up to the community to make the game world fun and keep it safe from the problems you speak of.

Some servers will have the issue you state, others will be a good mix.

The players will govern themselfs, its happened in other FFA PvP games.   Players will not allow a single guild to rule a server because it will not be fun like you said.

Eventually it will turn to its graphics and how it wont update at all because of the long development.
Then eventually they will attack subscription numbers trying to compare it to non-niche games like WoW and WAR and say even AoC had more numbers.
But we will be too busy enjoying the game to even worry about all that right =)

So Aventurine did get a video out finally! I'm impressed, Kuddos to the fanbois! Hope this was everything you were hopeing for.

just some people have a little more faith and common sense than others, so the video helped confirm some doubts thats all.

I agree with the OP about the part where the nay-sayers must be prepared to eat a "nice slice of humble pie "

I understand why people didn't believe the game was going to be released but really to think  a company would engage in such an elaborate hoax for 8 years and pretend it was releasing a MMO is just totally illogical

Yes the game will be released ,I can't say whether it will have all the features people are waiting for but I will try it and then comment :)

I am still amazed people think this game is coming out.

This game will not come out in 2008.

It might finally get scraped in 2008.

Hit a store shelf in 2008.... not going to happen.

I suspect sometime after the supposed launch date that has been given what like a million times that they will finally announce the "We are sorry to announce that the Darkfall project has been canceled, we would like to thank all the fans for supporting us"

That's about all your going to get from this company.

I suggest you read up on the game you are just dismissing and notice there is plenty of info to suggest that this game is comming out soon.  Not just promises from DF staff...other companies including their euro publisher are backing it now so yea...wether it gets delayed a little, sure may happen, wouldnt be the first time for DF or any game for that matter.  But to think it wont come out at all at this point is kind of silly.

Problem with you guys is that you think players come here to bash the game for no reasons?!!!

Did it ever occur to you that they have been following the game longer than you do? or even the same  (7 years) period? Just to let down time and time again by those folks at Ave?

Serisuly, looking at the current video of DF i must say that they still have tons of works to do to get this game release...

Please wake up and know that we are in the year 2008!!! Not freaking 2004!!!

People that continue to compare a mmo to another that is release 4 or 5 years ago need to get a clue!

Players now will definatly  seek better release, gameplay, GRAPHIC, etc... for current and future release games...

As i said, if you are invited into beta in DF, please!!!! please!!! tell them the truth about he graphic according to the current market expectation, rather than your own, unless you don't want them to succeed.

And BTW, a video means nothing till they are able to release what they have promise with the game play!!

How to judge that?? When its release!! This kind of blindy accepting what the company promise is true need to be stop, as we players have enough of crap promise!!!

    Help them! help you!!!

Well, I have gave many an argument in my day on why DF will not be released and will never see the store shelf.

Sigh, guess I will do it one more time......

Here are a few reason why DF will never be released. It will all kinda jumble together in the end but you will get the idea.

DF started development nearly 8 years ago. During the golden age of Everquest 1 and Dark Age of Camelot. The game and engine may have been innovative for this time frame but cannot hold a candle to the games on todays market.

I watched the video, now lets compare some key features that need to be in an MMO in the year 2008 to succeed.

    1. Graphics - When you compare that video of DF to the current leader line-up of todays MMO's it would fall into a EQ1, AC2, maybe and this is pushing it EQ2 category. Only one of these which still has a decent sub rate in the year 2008.

Games such as Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, City of Heroes, D&D Online, LotRO, Vanguard, soon to be released WAR, and AION... ALL MURDER THIS GAME in terms of graphical output.

You want my honest opinion EQ2 murders it to, but since it is close to EQ2 in style I gave it a decent looking MMO to help it out some.

    2. Animations - This games is about a quarky looking as Qbert jumping up and down on those damn square blocks, it looks horrid. To even stand a chance in today's MMO market they would have to revamp the entire damn animation section of development.

    3. Mechanics - Ok so it seems to have collision detection scripted pretty well, and character models can point and jump up and down. Battles seem ok though I point back to the above mentioned need of animations, which all the players look like they are playing MLB09 swinging their clubs and it just dissolved any cool looking battle scenes to death. Thing about mechanics is, unless you play it, who the hell knows if they work or not.

    4. Fun Factor - and here is the most important because all the above mentioned items play into this. Who really cares if it is fun or not, if you can't stand the sight of the game, or the animations of running looking like a bowlegged duck, swinging like your in a big leagues baseball game with every move, and the mechanics aren't sound. It could in theory be the funnest game ever, but these little things I mention will bring it down to funky town. It will blow.

Long story short, DF doesn't have what it takes to compete in todays market. It did at once time, but the slow development of this game has doomed it to the sands of time. Had it been released shortly after DAoC it might have made an impact.

Only impact it will make now will be a dent in the metal trash cans when they toss away the HD's holding the data when the project gets the scrap.

IF by some miracle they do release this garbage, all you have is a ideal, you have a dream of a sandbox that is so poorly developed and implemented that it won't be worth the HD space to install it on your pc.

    The End.

Oh no, I'm going to go cancel ASAP because you said the game would never hit the shelves. I certainly wouldn't want to be in beta for a game that will never come out! Thanks for letting me know now before it's too late!

After seeing the video it only confirmed my thoughts of the game being poorly designed and made them a reality.  The gameplay looks wretched, the graphics are lamer, and the game brings nothing new to the table.  I personally don't want to talk about lolfall again this will be my final message in this community.
