Umm how on earth do some of you people who claim to see lots of players EVERYWHERE you go,when it is an instanced game?90% of the world or maybe higher is totally instanced.I did see a few players like maybe 15 give or take a few at each hub,but once you enter into the instance you will NOT see another player again until you come out.
When we say everywhere we mean everywhere other players can be seen... aka cities and towns. All the dev made game content is in a instance but that is not all the game is. There is also the player content; trade, guild recruitment / creation, silliness and other mayhem also.
The you only see 15 players thing is crap to be blunt. Unless of course your in the middle of no where or in dist 5+
What do you do in WoW? PvP? Well if you think you're going to be viable in PvP after having played Guild Wars for like 3 months, then I can assure you that that is not the case. There's three campaigns and an expansion to play through. If you're bored then no game is going to satisfy you.
Both PVE/PVP.
Well, when i bought GW, I got just first campaign. Now, I barely feel to login, not talking to buy the other expasions. PVP is not so enjoyable. 5 vs 5 is not a big deal. I tried all arenas... I still miss 10vs10 or 15 vs15 or 40vs40 AV. I jump in 5vs5 but there is no fun at all. I played about 15 arena games in weekend, all of them ended under 5 minutes.... no action no fun. Just bang bang, end.
And one more thing. I think GW lack some social part of the game. Specially for instancing with peoples. Not talking about professions. Hmm..
It sounds like that GW is not your game. That's ok, different people enjoy different things. I will say that if you stopped at level 20 with not doing much else then you have missed 90% of the game. It's not like most games where leveling is a huge part of them, here it is basically just a tutorial. Personally I have loved the campaign storylines. I really feel the part of a hero more so than any other mmorpg that I've played. Perhaps it's not quite single player quality but it's close in my opinion. As far as pvp is concerned, if you like battleground type action well this is not your game. If you like competitive arena style games than this is it. Not much more to say about it really.
To me it reads that you are just a little burnt out on WoW but not ready to leave that type of game. I suggest to take a bit of time away and then go back to the game, you'll probably be happier as a gamer. And if you want to play GW again, you can as it's free after the initial purchase. That's one of the best pros of the game.
Originally posted by Lydon It boils down to what you find important. I find the content in itself the most important - AKA the actual storyline, quest text, cinematics etc. When I've completed it once, however, it's complete and I find it difficult to come back to it. Playing through the same storyline as a different profession provides little difference to me personally.
That is to argue that the actual gameplay doesn't matter.
Only 15 people in an area is pure nonsense. Unless maybe you are playing during off hours in one of the more out of the way outposts. I generally see and interact with more people daily in GW than in any other game I've played. It helps that the player base is not spread across "shards" / servers. You can play with ANY other GW player(s) at ANY time, ANY place. You could even argue that is more "massive" than everyone being on different servers (that also have different channels even), that can't EVER play together unless they roll another character on that other server. How is that "massive"? EVE and possibly a few others being the exception, that are in effect one truely massive server as far as the players are concerned, like GW.
True, due to the instance style you don't run across other players in the explorable areas, which has good and bad points. I actually like both styles. Being able to actually clear an area of foes (no respawning) is really fun, especially with a small group of friends. But it can be fun to run across someone and help each other out, although my experience in other games is that most people only play with guildmates or form a party in town anyway, no different than in GW.
It is called Guild Wars for a good reason. Your enjoyment will increase dramatically if you find a guild you like (and there are tons and tons). It is almost a different game when playing with others, everyone doing their part. A good group can do some amazing damage! But it is also nice to be able to just grab some heroes and henchmen and go do some solo adventuring when you don't have a lot of time or just don't feel like doing stuff with people. Even the occasional pick up group can be fun, if sometimes bizarre. In fact, most of my group playing is with friends I've met in-game from other guilds, we just get together for fun or to help someone out, regardless of the guild.
GW is different than many other MMO types, but certainly has many good points. And with no monthly fee you can play as much or as little as you want. Go play some WoW, LOTRO, RoM, ESO, Eve or whatever other game you like if you get bored or just want something different. Your GW account is always available and you can play any time, so why not play multiple games? I do.
I've played Guild Wars since players were allowed in for the weekend betas/stress tests.
I understood, from the beginning, that "leveling" was not the thrust of this game. Storyline, quests, missions, challenges and guild participation are the meat of Guild Wars.
Regardless I have played solo throughout all campaigns and, except for a few challenging sections, have done very well and am pleased with the direction this game has gone. I can't wait to what the devs do with G2.
OP started this thread, it seem, to be inflammatory and contentious because he doesn't want to bother to understand the game.
Too many players jump on the next new game hoping to "pwn" and in Guild Wars it's nearly impossible - isn't it? Nobody really cares, except maybe your guild mates. This is good - imho - for the rest of us that want away from the "netboi" mentality.
As I've said in other places - when I become interested in a game I go READ the website, and any user forums, wikis and fansites to see if it's a good fit for me.
If players are too lazy to do this small amount of homework, for themselves, then they shouldn't come whining and complaining later when they find out a game isn't suited to them.

Sorry but GW pvp is just lame. I dont know how peoples call it "BALANCED" and best PVP, I just found it unenjoyable. And is ONLY 5vs5. Come one... after you played WSG/AB/Eots/AV in WOW is impossible to like that crap. Seriously... PVP must be fun. Whats so fun in GW PVP? I dont get it... Not counting endless skills what you can buy.. OK, in WOW you grind gear in GW you grind skills, I am right? But come on, I fail to see the fun in a 5vs5 stupid arena in GW..

Failure on so many levels. First of all, how about playing the game? The fact that you rip on "5v5" in a game that has no 5v5 shows you haven't bothered looking at the game, much less have a clue what you are talking about. First, there are 4v4, 8v8, and 12v12. Second, you can buy, for a decent price, as many skills as you need in-game. So, no, you are WRONG about grinding skills like you grind gear in WoW. The definition of balance is where both sides are equal. Skills are adjusted on a regular basis, and no builds or skills are allowed to affecct the meta of the game for long before they adjust them. Each player has access to the same skill sets, and it's up to the ability of the player and his/her team to determine their success(Look up 'synergy'). I know skill over time played is a hard concept for you to wrap your mind around, but give it a try. Your idea of fun must be grinding out for that staff or armor that is better than everyone else's, instead of relying on your knowledge and skills to get you through the game. I guess some people like chess...and others like checkers.
Actually, do you ever played WSG or AB or AV in WOW? Wining AB means MUCH MORE that gear and skill, the amount of team work put in a victory is NOT comparable with anything what i've seen in GW PVP.
PS Sorry about 5vs5 I was used with arena 5vs5. 4vs4 is even worst.

The deciding factor in WoW PvP is typically gear and who can be assed to use most potions. WoW PvP got absolutely nothing with skill to do, it's only about gear. In WSG, AB or AV you win if your team has even the slightest amount of cooperation, and telling people "go here" doesn't take skill. In GW PvP such as GvG and HA both teams are on par when it comes to equip so the deciding factor will be how good your team is at the game, i.e. skill. GvG and HA requires you to have good positioning, awareness of what everyone else is doing, awareness of what other persons are casting, see if warriors are moving up to train you, watching out for spikes, watching out for nukes, avoiding getting dshotted, watching for splits (in GvG) and so on and so on. GW PvP takes huge amount of skills, especially since the deciding factor in GW is skills, whereas WoW PvP is about the best geared team.

WoW Arena fights vs GW PvP are very similar. You can only have a limited factor of "skill" involved in games where targetting and skill-clicking are prominent.
Positioning, awareness, etc, are all factors in WoW Arena PvP as well. Gear is right up there too, I'lle give you that. I just won't accept anyone saying how GW PvP requires more skill xD.

Finally though: no there's no skill limit in WoW that come even close to that of GW, not in how many you can use or how many you want to use, and even so GW's skill system is far more than just picking 8 skills.

In WoW, PvP is dominated by whichever side is higher level and/or has better gear. In Guild Wars, essentially everyone is the same level with perfect gear, so being higher level or having better gear cannot be a factor.
Well, I can understand why funboys defend GW. Is OK. But take a look:
GW PVP
- arenas
WOW PVP
- battlegrounds
- arenas
- world PVP ( including different achievements like killing oposite factions leaders, etc)
So, wich one is more atractive? You all try to explain that GW is skill, blah blah blah...
Anti example: In WOW if you play arena, you DONT NEED TO GRIND anything, doing 10-20 games can give you a nice rating IF YOU ARE SKILLED. In GW you have to grind like an idiot for skills.
BUT, DO NOT compare WOW arena with GW arena crap. In GW you jump in random arena with random peoples and ? You really expect to win if you have a BAD CLASS setup? Because is random? Not talking about skill? Seriously... Take a look at WOW, there is a reason why you can form an arena team and invite what classes you think you need to win. And that you call GW PVP?
Please please, I know I epic fail right now at GW PVP, but failing at GW failed PVP system dont prove anything, I just DONT ENJOY IT.

Hi Zorn,
You came here just to provoke a reaction since it's clear you have never played Guild Wars.
You don't like the game that's fine but to come in here to specifically troll?

Random Arenas, Team Arenas, Heroes Ascent, GvG, Skirmish, Hero Battles, Alliance Battles, Fort Aspenwood (siege battle), Jade Quarry, Zaishen Challenge, as well as Rollerbeetle Racing and Snowball Fights during holiday events and "mini" PvP holiday games such as the Present Run. All of these are completely skill-based and not gear based (which you can get for free). You can create max-level characters right from the start and since you equip 8 skills at a time you do NOT have to grind for skills unless there's something wrong with you upstairs.
Aww, ain't that cute? A WoW player is complaining that Guild Wars is too grindy. What's next? A WoW player complaining that it takes too long to get back to towns that you've previously visited in Guild Wars because the game lacks mounts? A WoW player complaining that Guild Wars is overrun with gold farmers? A WoW player complaining about ninja looters in Guild Wars?

I play WoW and used to do arena's alot. It takes little skill to be good at it. GW pvp is supirior most in most aspects. World pvp in WoW has been dead for a very long time. Arena's are imbalanced and resiliance means almost nothing. Learn a little more about the game your trying to trash and defend next time please and thank you

And WoW has?
I love GWs and I never really realized how many PvP options there were. I play GW for the PVE with a splash of AB to help my alliance out.

Please please, I know I epic fail right now at GW PVP, but failing at GW failed PVP system dont prove anything, I just DONT ENJOY IT.
Why are you even here discussing it then?
Hi Zorn,
You came here just to provoke a reaction since it's clear you have never played Guild Wars.
You don't like the game that's fine but to come in here to specifically troll?
Can PvP earn you a city or town in WoW?

Hello my old friend.
Sure smells like Zorn here... How's my favorite fanboi doing?

And WoW has?
A monthly fee

Learn a little more about the game your trying to trash and defend next time please and thank you
I love GWs and I never really realized how many PvP options there were. I play GW for the PVE with a splash of AB to help my alliance out.
