Been watching this game for over 3 years , for one point i thought it really was vaporware, but now i think the moment has come for all of us to enjoy a game that WE would like to play , a game where we would be free and not spoonfed with what the developer likes and what he thinks is wrong.
In my opinion this game will not have as many subscribers as wow has, because wow is a game that can satisfy a 11 y.o child and a more mature gamer witch is familiar with it's lore from the strategy game ...
DF is going to be more like EvE , small numbers in subscriptions , but loayl dedicated and most importantly MATURE playerbase that will make gameing expiriance even better.
Tasos have prooven , word of mouth rocks!
I wonder what will happen to all the trolls after the release ... mass suicide ?
There once was an interview with the Great Tasos of old....
His address to the community at large was bold...
---------- "Anyone posting on this forum is not an average user, and there for any opinions about the game are going to be overly critical compared to an average users opinions." - Me
"Hello person posting on a site specifically for MMO's in a thread on a sub forum specifically for a particular game talking about meta features and making comparisons to other titles in the genre, and their meta features.
well... most MMORPGs that released in the last time weren't ready at all. So beeing "more" ready than them doesn't mean that much. Also they haven't done stress testing and seem to want to test the hardware a little more.
I guess I've just been around too long. I remember the state UO, AC, and EQ were released in. Almost unplayable buggy messes. To me the released games in the last few years have been exponentially more solid and ready then the games of the past.
All comments from Tasos about the game make it seem like it's ready to go. Reality, on the other hand, has shown us something different.
The game is feature complete, more ready than most, if not all MMO titles that Tasos has sampled and could release today. Except, he's been saying similar things for years, so sorry for my skepticism.
"...seem to want to test the hardware a little more." Where has Tasos said this?
AFAIK, they weren't happy with the current state of Darkfall in '03 and started all over again.
Quote please.
So a person is arrogant if he's proud on what he has archieved?
To a certain extent, yes. If I draw a stick figure and then try to pass it off as a breakthrough in art and claim that it's a big achievement then I would consider myself arrogant. I will say again. The public has not seen the game. The developers are not the ones that decide if a game is a breakthrough in the genre, we are.
Maybe they just delivered what they promised and have no major buggs?
I hope this will be true. But they haven't delivered anything yet.
Also the feedback from the beta testers seems to be really positive. If you really have archieved something (They haven't achieved anything at this point. There is no public game. Would you consider Gods & Heroes or Dark & Light an achivement? Because I wouldn't.), you aren't arrogant just because you aren't super modest about it. It's not like he said "everything else is stupid and we just made the MMORPG of the millenium - everyone who thinks differently is stupid!!1".
Really? That's what it sounded like to me. Especially when he called the non-fanboy followers Trolls. That doesn't really bother me, but I know some people take offense to name calling, even if it's meaningless.
Sorry, but Darkfall really has ALOT of attention for not doing any advertisement at all? The hype is purely player-driven. Take this forum for example: Here are alot of haters but still: Hardly any thread in the news forum has as many postings as this thread aready has. And advertising a game AFTER it is available to the public might not be the worst idea there is.
I completely agree with this statement. But my original comment is still correct. Hype does not equal marketing. The point of marketing is to get your product noticed by people who wouldn't normally see it. People who frequent MMO/Gaming related message boards are not the target of traditional marketing for an MMO game.
If you have a great game, the players will come. The hype will build itself up in the major gaming forums and if you then have a free trial for players to offer, there really shouldn't be a problem with getting new players to play. You can also start advertising later on.
Again, I agree.
Aion had AFAIK alot more than just several hundred of testers. And if the game is really THIS good, they probably don't want to be kicked out of beta.
I wasn't even talking about the number of testers. I'm not sure why you brought this up. I was referring to the reasons behind people posting leaks, and how Tasos' is flawed.
uhm... Funcom? And that's what Tasos means I believe. After all: Before AoC's release, the AoC-DEVs talked about how darkfall will never deliver its promises (the ferrari-metapher, you know ;-)), etc. And even WoW was pretty bugged at release.
AoC was tested pretty thoroughly actually. There were exponentially less bugs upon release then there were in Beta. That's also the reason they didn't have a lot of the features they had promised before closed beta started in the game at the end of open beta, because they were busy fixing all of the bugs that were found by the players during testing.
Funcom also had professional game testers for AoC.
If Tasos wanted to make a jab at AoC he should have said something about not having all of the features promised, not about testing.
Comments in green... It's like Christmas!
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Look at AoC, long beta...100 million dollars used, hundred more developers, vast marketing campaign: flop

its not gonna be a mainstream game, instead of competing with mainstream games, it will be right there with smaller titles and do well against them...it will be competive against smaller titles and find its place in the scene but no, it will not be a wow-killer or killer of any other game that has got hundreds of millions put in it.

chew on that haters. like the dude from the interview pretty much said, love it or hate, its still an obsession with ya'll.

There are a lot of valid skeptics here making good points that back up their arguements...many of which i agree with and share the same skepticism.
But there are also a lot more flat out trolls who dont realize that with every lol post they make they are only confirming what Tasos said and making him look that much wiser.
Keep arguing haters....just helping them promote the game to the people who actually have common sense!

Nowhere, that's my personal conclusion. It seems logical if they don't stress test, what else could they be doing? AFAIK, they weren't happy with the current state of Darkfall in '03 and started all over again.
Quote please. don't have it here, but why else would Tasos say the game is in developement for 5 years now? It'd not be a lie someone could hide... So a person is arrogant if he's proud on what he has archieved?

The public has not seen the game. The developers are not the ones that decide if a game is a breakthrough in the genre, we are. Still doesn't mean you can't predict what the public will think about it. You should've known that your stick figure is crap from the beginning. Tasos is obviously beeing confident about Darkfall which is a good sign IMO.
Maybe they just delivered what they promised and have no major buggs? I hope this will be true. But they haven't delivered anything yet. They might have delivered to the beta testers. We don't know. People who spend hours on spamming darkfall fanvideos on youtube with "vaporware OLOLOL" are just to be called "trolls" nothing else. Sorry, but Darkfall really has ALOT of attention for not doing any advertisement at all? The hype is purely player-driven. Take this forum for example: Here are alot of haters but still: Hardly any thread in the news forum has as many postings as this thread aready has. Again, telling someone else how he should've made his interview is pretty arrogant as well.
Well that happened months ago...but some still tried to be stubborn and didnt accept it
Also id hate to think what they would have said about this interview if it as on any site besides this one. Probably would have just called it fake lol.

"If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos
Nowhere, that's my personal conclusion. It seems logical if they don't stress test, what else could they be doing? I don't know what they could be doing. That's kind of my point.
don't have it here, but why else would Tasos say the game is in developement for 5 years now? It'd not be a lie someone could hide... That's exactly why I posted the quote from him in 2003. It can't be hidden. Still doesn't mean you can't predict what the public will think about it. You should've known that your stick figure is crap from the beginning. Tasos is obviously beeing confident about Darkfall which is a good sign IMO.
My point with the stick figure thing is that I would have THOUGHT it was fantastic and I would be confident about my artistic abilities. I agree that him being confident about the game is good, but that does not make the way he said it any less arrogant.
They might have delivered to the beta testers. We don't know. I don't care about the beta test, I only care about the released game. I'll bring up the example of Gods & Heroes again. WE wouldn't, but Tasos can. and the beta testers also can. that's what we have - bitching about it doesn't help, we'll get to see the game hopefully soon anyway. If not, discussion about it doesn't change a thing. I agree, it doesn't change anything. My entire post was made to point out the arrogance of Tasos, that's what my statement showed. People who spend hours on spamming darkfall fanvideos on youtube with "vaporware OLOLOL" are just to be called "trolls" nothing else. I agree here. But Tasos didn't say that. No, that sounds arrogant. What? What's arrogant in me pointing out how advertising is traditionally used to market video games?
Why didn't you write his interview from the beginning? Again, telling someone else how he should've made his interview is pretty arrogant as well. Hehe, I like how you keep trying to turn it on me, but your statement makes no sense. I wasn't trying to tell him how to do the interview, I was responding to your comment about Tasos referring Funcom. I was stating that if Tasos had WANTED to make a jab at AoC that he probably would have said something about features, not testing. I wrote this to show that you are just making an assumption based on minimal information.
Green again.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Ok so I think this might be my first actual post at MMORPG.com. I've been here for a few years though. But anyway didn't anyone else think this Tasos guy came off as a bit of an egotistical jerk? I mean just the way in which he answered the questions it was if he was acting like he and his company are far superior than anyone else. Sorry but to me he just came off as a bit of a prick.
Dude live in Europe a few years. He was just being direct I am not surpised by the tone of the answers just a cultural difference in communication.
I live in Europe, and have done so for the most part of my life. And no, his attitude is not something that you would expect from someone in his position. But maybe he's convinced that DF can survive on the current community alone. At the rate he and his "followers" are shooing others away, that'll be the way things turn out anyway.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Good interview, looking forward to news in the next couple days. I liked the way he answered his questions. Apologies for hurting your feelings there Nancy!
Excellent example. *sigh*
A good community. Yeah...but only if you join the "Cult" and don't dare say anything remotely negative. So, here I am again, pointing out something that rubs some people wrong with a statement, at the same time being happy I may finally get to play the game and still, everyone gets all crazy and angry and wants people like me gone from thier game. *shrug*
Maybe Tasos should give some of the -thick- skin to his followers so they don#t explode at the slightest mention of negative things.
A couple things here.
First off, I realize you're not a native English speaker so let me explain to you some words. When someone says 'Several' that means at least three. So if there are 'several hundred people playing the game right now' interpret that as 'at least 300'. Not 'about 100' like you said.
a hundred = one hundred
a couple hundred = two hundred
Several hundred = three to five hundred
The second thing is that 99.99995 of gamers could give a rat's ass about how nice the president of a company is. How nice is the head of Blizzard, or their parent company or the CEO of EA? You don't know, do you? I care about how good the game is going to be, and what level of customer service they provide. There's a word for people who crticize a game because the head of the company is defensive when asked some clearly atagonistic questions, the word is 'troll'.
Imagine going up to the head of BMW and saying 'I have seen pictures of your new car, and have read on line people who have driven it at the test track, but many people think that you haven't even made it, it is just CGI. What do you say to those people?' What's he going to say 'Thank you so much for asking that wonderful question.'?
Oh CMON' people, I mean you asked for some publicity other than friends and Italians, HERE IT IS! You asked for an interview "calling DF out" from mmorpg, and the questions given were quite blunt.
Are some of the answers vague? Sure.
Does Tasos come off as a prick? Sure. (I actually didn't think he was acting like a prick, but I believe the game exists, to those who think the game is a farce, yeah i can see how you think he was being a prick... but the game exists sooooo....)
But that's not what you asked for, you can ask for it now (i doubt Tasos will stop being a prick for you though...) but you first must concede that DF gave you what you asked for.

No matter what you put up, they will always find a loose string that they will try and pull to unravel it all.
I try to follow.. try... to follow an age-old saying - "You can't win a fool's argument."
tasos sure is arrogant.. ow well must be cause he knows the reputation of this site
MMOs currently playing: - About to play: Lord of the Rings Online Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
Love the confidence from Tasos! Cant wait, DF is almost here!!!!!!!!!!
Having confidence in something you are working on is great. The problem comes when you become over confident and believe you are doing better than you actually are. What Tasos has always exuded to me is over confidence or arrogance. Always. Read the Darkfall Dev Journals on Warcry, you'll see what I mean.
It might just be his personality and he could be a realistic down to earth guy when it comes to criticizm for the game and listening to complaints and fixing things; but we won't know if this is true until after release.
Why do I care?
Because I want Darkfall to succeed and be a great game! That's why. I don't want Tasos' over confidence to hinder the game because he thinks everything is great. Something that happens to arrogant people is they think they are right, even when they are wrong.
Think about it, what if the game is released and there are horrible inbalances or a huge issue with X feature and Tasos' response to all of the forum posts would be. "All the complainers are just trolls, nothing is wrong with the game." I'm not saying this will happen, but it could.
I'm worried because I was in corprate management for a number of years and reading the way Tasos responds to questions and comments on other games reminds me of some people I had to let go because of performance issues. They too thought they were doing a great job. One even wrote in her exit interview survey that she thought I was letting her go because I was a sexist. No, it wasn't because of the fact that she was the lowest performaing associate that I had, it was because I am sexist. Right.
A common thing that arrogant people like to do is make excuses.

What part of Europe? England? lol...
Anyway, I agree with you that some of the people on the forums are very abrasive. I've been following the game for quite some time and have been flamed to a crisp for a suggestion that I don't think most people even understood. On the other hand, I think that people are banned and/or suspended for extreme hate and flaming. Also, if you want to get a feel for the game, post in the newbie forum. The Advanced forum is for people who have waited long for the game and many of the most vocal have very little patience.
In any case though, many of the people who go to the DF forums expect to change the game into EQIII or WoWII. They are quickly dealt with and they should be. Try suggesting on the WoW forums that you should be able to loot your opponents gear. They will also flame you.
I think the real problem is that people who go to the DF forums thinking in terms of past mmos are shocked to find that their comfort zone is just not there. Try not to go there seeking what you have known before. Instead, keep an open mind, post in the appropriate forums, and you should be just fine.
Could not of put it better myself, having defended this game on both this site and many others I feel there will be many people feeling quite daft shortly. My posting has dropped quite a lot over the last few weeks due to constantly defending my belief in this product and having to listen to so many arrogant and immature idiots always questioning the existence and disbelief.
I can not get my head round why they would want to continue posting on any site if they have no faith, I get the impression these people have lost their way or are just plain nasty and need to seek professional help!! At the very least I hope the game does not make it until after christmas until spring this will cause a real riot and will cause a few to commit suicide if we are to believe some posts Lol...
Tasos and the Adventurine are serious about releasing an MMO for all those gamers who have been left out in the cold over the past 8 or more years, with a full loot, ffa pvp, skill based, sandbox, modern graphics MMO.
There are literally tens of thousands of people who are waiting for a game of this type to be released. And more, much much more people introduced to the MMO genre through WoW will come across once it is released, because it is a game based around PVP WITH CONSEQUENCE.
No more hand holding carebear hugs and kisses, no more whack-a-mole combat, no more level grinding, no more stupid 'kill 10 bats' CRAP.
And they DON'T F****ING CARE if you don't like full loot pvp sandbox, they don't want to hear your snivelling whining about 10 hour raids to gain a shiney, they don't want to listen about your needs for 'teh lvl grind'. If you don't like those concepts, or for some reason think the game is all smoke and mirrors, then GTFO of the house, you whining, weak-willed worm.

We should turn this thread into something fun. Ok look I am going to start a little poem and you guys add another line to it!

It will be a niche game and it will be succesful, another EvE maybe even bigger.
Others MMO compagnies will try to copy what they are doing for sure.

Keep arguing haters....just helping them promote the game to the people who actually have common sense!

"The monsters are tough. I was looking for a challenge, but these things are just too damn smart." -DF Beta Tester
"If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos
Comments in green... It's like Christmas!
Comments in yellow, like bananas.
Well that happened months ago...but some still tried to be stubborn and didnt accept it
Also id hate to think what they would have said about this interview if it as on any site besides this one. Probably would have just called it fake lol.
Ohhhh they are a funny bunch them trolls.

Green again.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
When I'm energetic I'm:
the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
When I'm at default I'm:
WHITE/BLUE
Lol according to this I'm bipolar :O
Love the confidence from Tasos! Cant wait, DF is almost here!!!!!!!!!!

No matter what you put up, they will always find a loose string that they will try and pull to unravel it all.
I try to follow.. try... to follow an age-old saying - "You can't win a fool's argument."
tasos sure is arrogant.. ow well must be cause he knows the reputation of this site
MMOs currently playing: -
About to play: Lord of the Rings Online
Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)

Have It!!
Asbo
