Perma death would actually be fun if it wasnt the entire game. Say, once you get a char to Max level, you get to make a Perma death Alt(s). This Alt would maybe, say, Gain xp twice or four times as fast, and have like a double or triple chance of the better item drops, but make everything soulbound. This would make this a "for fun" only char, which you could not whore gold with, and also a way to try other classes and not be the bottom of the barrel, with providing a nice amount of satisfaction for killing, but it doesnt take too much away when you die. It still hurts, obviously, but not hurt like you lost a bazillion hours of leveling.
just an idea
Wow, thats a damn good idea imo
+1
But what would you have that character for? Just for fun? Why not get a max leveled character with best gear?
Think it would be for the added challenge of seeing how far you could get before dying.
Some people dont find the loss of some of that character progression in an rpg. RPGs are about building a character, an avatar. They find enjoyment in the safey of knowing their character at least will be fine, a lil xp loss or money loss is nothing. Full Looting ruins the enjoyment and expectations of a RPG for some. Others love it, they like taking from other people, but they will be pissed also if they lose something they wanted to keep.
Two different types with two different ideas on what they find comfortable in a game about character development and combat. I find a hybrid of both is healthy. I believe the best answer is for a character to lose all/or prevention of losing all, only if certain conditions are met (...crimes = red name, killed 3+ times by same person...ect or bound items that cannot be looted, services of the NPCs to protect the said armor.) These are conditions. It allows for both, but theres always a door that lets people get around it with some effort. Games like these need a big player base, if you go extreme and are friendly only to the most hardcore, you lose out on much population.
I dont think full looting without conditions is healthy for Darkfall, imo.
I also wonder why full loot is "dangerous" for some people? It will be a good way to stop caring about your gear. Many PvE MMOs have leared player that the gear is everything.......throw that mentality away and free your minds. You can relax and try and loot others instead.
But if you don't care about your gear, why would you care if someone loots it from you. Looting someones gear would just be redundant, and thus completely useless.

Lesson: Don't die.
